- Hi Guys,
i have now using the FUJIFILM XS20 for two weeks and it´s time for a short review. In Short: I love it!
I hope you like my Video as I am new to TH-cam.
Feel free to like and subscribe, would be awesome :)
Markus
With Fujifilm cameras, if you shoot in RAW or Fine+RAW you can copy any image in camera using any other film simulation. Pull up a shot on your camera's screen, click the menu button, go forward on Raw Conversion, scroll down until you get to Film Simulation and click the right arrow to go forward, choose the silmulation and click Menu, click Q to create. then click OK to store. The new copy will be the last photo saved.
thanks so much, helped a lot :)
this is so cool!! i've have this camera for months and had no idea this was possible. thanks!!
I don't own this camera, but am planning to buy it. I always wondered whether simulations could be applied after taking the pictures. No review answered this. And here you dropped the gem!
Thanks
sony fuji user here. been using fuji at least 3 years. i change at least 3 fuji bodies before finalizing to xs20 (now)
For 85mm equivalent, sigma 56mm hands down. just use the command dial setting no issue. (theres alot of fuji user disilke this lens because it has no aperture ring). If you have more budget, get the fuji WR 56mm for more bokeh and dof.
the 23mm is easily my favourite focal length for everthing, from street to potraits. i use both 23 & 56mm (which is equivalent to FF 35mm & 85mm)
I got bored of Sony's colour (older models back then) and constant heavy editing for the color. bought a fujifilm xt10 for fun and end up enjoying it so much.
X-S20 user here, Fuji user for some time.
About the 85mm eq., people already said the anwsers: if you want to spend less, could try the Viltrox 56 f/1.4. Step up, the Sigma. The Fuji have more character, but is more expensive.
I have the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 - is almost glued to my X-S20 since I got it. Very compact, constant f/2.8, works wonderfully.
And the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 is mind blowing, sharpest lens that I ever had - but is kinda big.
And some vintage glass with adapters works wonderfully in the X-S20 - if you want to taste it, get a cheap FD-FX adapter and a Canon FD 50 f/1.8 or 1.4.
wow thank you so much for your advice! really helps a lot. i tend to buy the sigma 56/1.4 :)
Have a great day, Markus
Great video! Everything you said here is exactly how I feel. I also had an X-T5 for about 3 weeks and I took it back. It just didn't do what I needed it to do. I'm a Sony user and I picked X-S20 up as a backup to my Sony. However, I decided to shoot an entire video with it and it blew me away! It was so easy to edit the footage. It might even look better than my Sony. The X-S20 is an excellent camera. My favorite lens to use with this camera is the Zeiss Touit 32mm. It makes everything look better. Thank you for making this video
thank you so much for your feedback !
i am happy you enjoy this camera too :)
If you're a videographer, the X-T5 is not the camera for you. It is a photocentric camera mainly for stills, although you can shoot video with it.
Fujifilm gives its users a tactile experience of the analogue world. Those who use cameras with PASM dials may find it difficult to use Fuji cameras in the first place but that's the point. Fuji intends to make you use a camera as if you are using an old film camera back in the days.
@@drakeydrake1076 Yeah, I'm aware of what Fuji is all about. The X-T5 is great for video. I've bought it twice trying convince myself I could make it work for video because it was that good at it. Its only downside is the screen. It's great for photography, but not ideal for video. If it flipped out, I would have kept it. I also like the dials. I come from a stills background. They are great to use. Admittedly the PASM dial, or in Fuji's case the PSAM dial, is much easier to work with. Though I do like the separate dials, even for video work.
I have a kit lens (18-55mm), a viltrox 13mm f1.4 for very clear or bouquet enhancements and gonna grab a Fujifilm 8mm tomorrow for vlogging, traveling, landscape or indoors fotos… I’m considering a tamron for long ranges.
My old cameras ware Canons but the new line has very expensive lenses and Fuji has its whole lineup based on APSC and roughly the same connection to the camera body.
My favourite lens for this camera is Fujifilm’s 35mm f1.4 R
It has a wonderful character, ~53mm full frame equivalent, it’s compact, bright, and auto focuses quickly on this camera because it has such an advanced autofocus with a high speed. Just wow.
Glad you’re loving it!!
oh wow that sounds amazing...aaaa... i need 2 lenses now i guess :D i want the sigma 56mm 1.4 too... aaaaa... best wishes, markus :)
@@camerainmybag the sigma 56mm f1.4 is phenomenal, light, sharp, and bright!! I prefer it over the 56mm f1.2 by Fuji.. 😬
Sorry I’m not helping your gear acquisition syndrome.
I love the 35mm 1.4 lens as well. Keeping it forever.
Tip: The XC 35mm lens is half the price of the XF 35mm if you need a 35mm. The optics are the same but no aperture control ring which makes the lens look nicer. You can control the aperture with the front dial.
You’ve found the magic of Fuji - shooting with it is special. The colors! I’m a former Canon user, but not shooting professionally.
it’s really awesome and something special :) i love that you say „the magic“
This is my favorite fuji. Before this i had the xh1 and the xt3. The battery life and ergonomics are awesome. Id probably enjoy the xh2 but its more than i need.
hey there and i am so sorry for my late response. awesome you are enjoying it! i am waiting for the xh3 :)
My old cameras ware Canons but the new line has very expensive lenses and Fuji has its whole lineup based on APSC and roughly the same connection to the camera body.
I use a Sigma 56mm f1.4 for the 85mm eqiv, so far its great!
hey there and i am so sorry for my late response. i have the same lens and didnt use it too much, but i have to and i want to ;D
The Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 Pro is cheap and possibly the best portrait lens for Fuji right now. Only $550 USD
Second this however it's large and that's a small body. The first gen XF56mmF1.2 is pretty small and takes great shots and is an 85mm equivalent. AF is slow but it is still one of my favs. That said if size is no issue the Viltrox is better imo and I love mine(paired with my H2s).
thanks so much for your feedback! i will have that lens definitley in my mind now :)
Congratulations🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
thank you :)
Sigma 56mm f/1.4 is awesome (viltrox has a 56mm too) and the Fujifilm 90mm is a beast
there are so many lenses now i want to buy haha thanks for your advice !
Great video! I have added you to my notification list :) Looking forward to more videos. If you are looking for a lens that can get you closer in, you could consider buying an m42 to X mount adapter such as the one made by K&F Concepts, then you could put a 58mm Helios lens on the Fuji. Also opens up the possibility of other vintage lenses like the Super Takumar 50mm f1.4, would be fun with all the film sims (I have also seen a lot of beautiful video from Fuji cameras using vintage lenses)
thank you so much! that means a lot to me as i am just staring here :)
your recommendations sound amazing... i am still thinking about it.. at the moment i tend to the sigma 56mm / 1.4 , have you used it? New video is out btw. Happy Day, markus
@@camerainmybag I have not tried the sigma 56mm yet. From what I have seen that is a great lens for portraits and street photography, not a very heavy lens either. Perhaps I should also add this Sigma lens to my shopping list :)
Try the FILTERS mode. You gonna love it for creativety
hey there and i am so sorry for my late response. i WILL! :)
You may want to try the Fuji XF 50mm F2 lens which is 75mm FF equivalent. Super lens with great image quality and should be easy to pick up used for a good price.
i would love to :) sounds amazing!
ill second this, one of my fave lenses of any system =)
Excellent video, and glad to have found your channel as I’ve been going through TH-cam trying to explain what compels me to get this camera so much, and you nailed it. I use Panasonic for work and mostly video, but I’ve owned a Fujifilm X100V for the last 18 months and feel a similar way about your X-S20, but mine does have dials similar to the XT5, and since I’m used to having a shutter wheel in the same spot you are after years of using Panasonic, I’m looking to switch to this one.
It definitely does fit a nice spot as a creative camera, I’m looking forward to taking mine out and taking my time with the recipes like you have and like I’ve done with the X100V but with something a little more familiar ergonomics wise and it’ll be nice to have swappable lenses.
Thanks again for sharing!
thank you so much for your awesome feedback and comment ! i really appreciate it :)
i hope you have a great time with it !!
Love the insigts! I gotta explore my old Canon camera much more!
i am curious how it works out for you ;)
@@camerainmybag i'll report back once i fugured it out. With the camera i am a noob basucally. U have to teach me senpai
You could try the fuji 50mm f2, it's close to an 85mm on full frame
thank you so much :)
Great video and super useful, danke Markus! :)
hey there, i really appreciate your kind words :) Bitte, DJmanulorian :P
I am a Nikon owner and am looking at the Fuji XS20 as a travel camera - something a bit different. Am I right to assume you can save RAW and film simulation JPGs simultaneously ???
Yes of course , you can shoot RAW + JPG simultanously
hey there and i am so sorry for my late response. i hope you enjoy it. i LOVE this camera for travling
My mind was a blurry about this Fuji call inside of me and you just said it all
i hope it helped a little bit clearing your mind? :)
Xs 20 is Amazing by fujifilm
For me Sigma 18-50 2.8 would be great on this camera
thanks! i will definitely watch out for it :)
Maybe for a lens recommendation that won't break the bank: anything Viltrox has done recently (the Pro series especially)
oh i should watch out for them and watch some videos :) thank you !
Nice video ... exactly what I feel when shooting with fuji
happy to hear :) thanks for watching
I went from A6400 to XS20 for $1199 and replaced kit lens with XF red badge 16 - 55 mm f2.8.
Initially I bought XS20 and XT5…returned XT5
awesome! i hope you enjoy it?
Great camera. You can try viltrox pro 75mm f1.2 by way you are handsome with that accent 😊
oh thanks you so much :) for the tip als
well as the compliment :))
Can you please make a video about Fuji X-S20 vs Sony A6700
sadly i do not own the Sony A6700
How comfortable do you feel using the XS20 in rainy weather?
hey there :) i am VERY careful as the xs20 is not water sealed. i did some shots but had some kind of paranoia :D
do you also use the xs20?
Try also x30 ii and pancake lens. Great street photography.
thank you! really appreciate your advice:)
Does the flash tip upward on a spring like it used to on the Fuji X-E2? Really miss that function.
you mean that it “flips out”? yes it does :)
You can try to use DXO pure raw 3 for fuji RAWs, even better resoults , its better for lightroom working with DNG and not RAF format , and is also great for denoise . I using all my fuji raf like that
i can use this fuji camera whit FD analogic canon lens ?
i am not sure..you can look for an adapter, there are many out there :)
There are so many options for an 85 equivalent. jeez... XF 56 1.2 (old) XF 56 APD 1.2 (old) XF 56 1.2 R LM WR (new version), Sigma 56 f1.4, Viltrox 56f1.4 then there are the 75 equivalents: 50 f2 and 50 f1. Samyang/Rokinon AF 56mm then all the manual focus lenses.
About built-in flash, if you know how to use a flash then the on camera flash isn't un-useable. Just fill light in the day in the shade makes a big difference.
thank you for your recommendations. :) there are really some lenses out there. Fuji is a new elephant for me :D
@@camerainmybag I started my photography journey with a 1" panasonic fixed lens camera and then moved to Fuji as my first ILC in 2019. Basically learned photography on Fuji, so it is just what I'm used to. I just got an X-S20 to go along with my X-T30. Current Lenses are Viltrox 13 f1.4, XF 18-55 2.8-4.0, and XF 70-300 4-5.6.
Gutes Vid und hilfreich, danke dafür. Probier mal das Sigma 56mm f1,4 wenn du ein 85mm Äquivalent haben möchtest.
Wie zufrieden bist du mit Video bzw dem Autofokus?
hi :) i ordered the sigma today , yaaaay :) thanks for the tip!
at the moment i like the autofocus… sometimes it seems to be “confused”
what about you ?
@@camerainmybag With the RF24 and 35 no issues, but I did shoot so far with the R8 just in Studien conditions, in low light my R7 and i guess also the R8 might struggle a lil bit
Villtrox 75mm 1.2 and 27mm 1.2 are awesome!
heard good stuff about them! thank you :) do you use them actively?
Are you having overheating issues ? I am and is almost impossible to work with . Already tried every recommended action for this and nothing works 😢
i did a video and uploaded it yesterday about this :)
I need help, R10 or XS20?
if you want a camera only for the purpose of „working as a camera“ then i would choose the r10. fuji has some more creative choices and that „flavor“ …
what is your main goal?
Great video 👌🙂thank you
you are very welcome 🙏 thank you for watching :)
Mmm to invest in a new system… I’d rather just buy a compact lens. I have a Sony a7iv so I guess it’s relatively small compared to an R5.
hmm im not sure. i am so lazy learning sony :D
Maybe sigma 56mm? (84mm eqv)
that sounds awesome !
The Fujifilm X-s20 was marketed towards content creators though, not professionals. You could just tell because of the dediicated vlog option. Fujifilm has never been the professionals camera from what I heard reviewers say.
thanks for your statement! very helpful for the mindset
Until you move into their medium format cameras. I’d say those are definitely for professionals
X-H2s/X-H2 are absolutely top notch pro cams and some of the best value for the money on the market....
@@ReflexVE i was thinking about buying an H3 if it ever comes out.
@@camerainmybag The H2 appears to have been a success so in a couple years a H3 seems inevitable. Huge leap this generation over the last, I had the X-S10 myself after leaving Canon when I outgrew my M50.
New Video is out :) th-cam.com/video/UfbyvY-Dclw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FXYlXtJz12woJMs0
Hi :) Thank you so much for watching! What is your experience with Fuji? Let us know in the comments. Markus
Same 2weeks user here) I do have almost the same thoughts about creativity, I wanna use this camera more , have it with me . But still kinda frustrating and thinking about to return it. Cuz af and image quality is not as good as on Sony/Canon. And Film Simulation was just a marketing . After playing few days with receipts from FujixWeekly , I still prefer using RAW (btw , raw is pretty good, but again DR is worse than A brand cameras )
I like this camera , how it feels , it make me creative as you said . But …
but there is always something but)
i totally get your point and i 100% understand you. i had the same feelings and issues. it stopped when i decided in what „niche“ this camera is for my personal use.
comparing it to my R5 makes no sense as it is a way cheaper camera.. and that’s okay. i decided to have it as an off and fun camera. for filming and just for my „fun stuff“. maybe that helps :)
