Brilliant Sir. Very inspiring lesson of legendary vintage stuff. The open well tuned sound fits perfect to that style. Thank you for that nice and insightful performance Phil ! Best Regards from Germany, Marco
Our earthly life is limited. Music not. I think only the best and the good human go to heaven. It is necessary that important parts of our culture are preserved, especially for young people, so that they can see what has already existed. This also applies to other areas of life. Technology, science and our values. In a time that is based on the so-called Digitalization becomes far too quickly focused lforward only on the future. Anyone who does not value the past can only develop backwards. Progress becomes an illusion. That's why what you do is so important, Phil!
We use single ply heads. Phil likes Aquarian Classic Clear. I like Evans Level 360 for toms and Evans EMAD or Remo Powerstroke for the bass drum. Remo Ambassador is great for toms too. There isn't a huge difference in single ply heads between brands. What we both use on the snare and love is the Evans UV1. For tuning, I love the drum dial. Top head slightly tighter than the bottom. I hope that helps. Paul
Thanks for your comment. I prefer the Vic Firth acoustic ear muffs made by the 3M company. The muffs that have the name "PELTOR" on the side of the muff are the best but hard to find. The muffs that don't have that name are too tight on my head to the point that they are uncomfortable. Try amazon or your local drum shop, take care. Phil
Hi PB. I'll reply for Phil because we record at my house on my drums. The drums are 1980 Ludwigs with maple shells (and maybe a poplar ply???). The snare is a 6-1/2" Ludwig Classic Maple that was a collector's edition, released about 20 years ago. Needless to say, we are Ludwig fans. Paul

Hey Marco, thanks for the kind words. These drumming legends like Krupa, Rich and Bellson are gone, but will forever continue to be inspirational.

thanks for the lesson. now will i actually be able to play it by this summer?
The basic Krupa rhythm is fairly simple, so I'm sure you can do it.
Hi Phil, can you talk about your earmuffs sometime?

Hello Phil, this is great stuff. Thanks a lot. What kind of Ludwig drums and which snare drum is it? Sounds fantastic!
