BBTS is one of the more intriguing groups even in the very colourful Japanese underground music scene. Bizarre mix but it works amazingly. All four girls are talented vocalists and yeah, they dont rotate but assigned to each style. Io Nozukidaira, who does the deep growls is particularly mesmerisingly good. The girls pull this off at live shows too and the band is always solid. They'd be honoured by an 8.4 from DH🤘
Two of them always do the scream and growl. Two always do the clean vocals. The band always wear masks. Don't worry about the screaming girl. They've been doing this for years already.
It was Ladybaby you are thinking of and alongside Broken by the Scream were/are part of the idol core scene. It's not the most popular scene out there but it's large enough to support a few bands. One group, PassCode, has even garnered a modicum of mainstream success doing electronicore. The masks for the instrumentalists is mostly due to cost and them not always having dressing rooms for makeup. It's a lot easier to do the small to midsized female idol festivals when the instrumentalists don't need to change or a mirror to actually perform.
Aside from everyone in this group being extremely good technically in their respective role, the real hero to me is the guitar player for writing all of those incredible songs and hardly can I remember a BBTS Song that felt dull or recycled. The compositions are just a geniuses work of chaos.
That's pretty much why they're my favourites. I've listened to everything they've done and I can't find one song I don't like. Seriously, not even one. That never happened before.
Impressed that you picked up the 2 "scream team" and then 2 "clean team" vocals right off the bat. I had to see an interview with them and have it explained. The instrumentalists are exceptionally skilled. Vocalists having to remember lyrics, melodies, and dance moves always impresses me. The instrumentalists playing very technically demanding music with complex syncopation and staying completely in sync is exciting to hear. Both are evidence of a high level of skill and a dedication to rehearsal time. (No matter the skill, you don't play that tightly together without a fair amount of practice.)
It helps when those three were in a band together before joining Broken by the Scream. The music they played in that band is pretty much the same style as Broken by the Scream. Being the dedicated instrumentalists for an idol group isn't really looked down upon any longer and some musicians even seek it out now.
I love that he noticed the band first whereas most go for the obvious (io) first. That's what I was hoping for and that's exactly why I really was hoping someone would request them.
If they get requested again, I hope it will be their Tokyo live of Message. I think that would be a great reaction/review. Great song and great performance. Also, thank you so much to the patrons for requesting my favourite band. Thank you thank you thank you!! Muah muah muah!
I figured you'd enjoy the instrumentalists. They're good. I particulary like the variation they put into their playing. Like you said, it's not what they play, it's how the play it. Vocally it's a good blend of harsh and clean. Having both the low and the high in the harsh section adds to that. Hopefully they get some good vocal coaching to stay healthy.
the instrumentalists in bbts really couldn't give a shit about their faces being out there, they enjoy playing the music sure but they aren't the actual name on the bill, the group is the 4 girls. It also stops people from conflating the backing band with being the actual product (like babymetal has problems with constantly) the high register scream girl kagura is a literal monster, she makes legit velociraptor noises with little trouble and is honestly a lot stronger live than than the gutteral vocalist Io, whos vocals are abit too overproduced on record and actually sound abit more realistic and natural live, both have been screaming for years (i first saw them live back in late 2017)
I have to admit that I am not a fan of grit and growl in the music I listen to on a daily basis. For that reason, there are few bands that I will purchase their work where G&G is a major part of their catalogue.

The musicians are session musicians. Highly skilled. So Yes. They are that good IRL!
the guitarist write all the Music for this group.
I think the Band you mean is Ladybaby.
Yes that's the one.
