I used to work for a production company of several educational channels that now are using a lot of AI generated pictures. Before, it was a huge challenge trying to get all the accurate resources, now I see how things are turning into... They even don't need to write the script anymore.
Have told my kid to explore her thinking capacity, and to work on her creative writing skills by reading a variety of books,text books ,story books, autobiographies, biographies, comprehension,fiction,non fiction etc have taught her to believe in her abilities, she doesn’t use AI at all . There are many kids who use AI, don’t know whether somebody else’s write ups is a good way to learn without even trying to write something on your own. 🤔

As a History Professor, I tell my college students the same thing in our space. I don’t know if AI or “faceless channels” exist around false historical information, but I bet there is. It’s been true for longer than the current AI-hopefully we all know about “photoshopping” and “deep fakes”-but the current AI makes it faster and better in final product. As the expert said at the end, eventually either the only people watching places like YT will be completely unaware, thus deeply misled, OR, no one will be watching because you’ll know all of the content is false and fake. And both are sad outcomes….
I look at it like we do any other product. Somethings are good for you and some things are not. At the end it is up to the individual to measure what they are consuming regardless if its proven true or false. We have a larger problem where many no longer have faith that man can see through and study their interest on their own. I'm glad people are finally noticing these fake channels. This has been a problem for around 3 years now and I've been telling TH-cam to not recommend content from like 10+ of these channels and they just keep coming back with slightly different channels.
This is why it's important to turn off a channel's viewing history and delete all prior history as well. TH-cam needs to incorporate that automatically into children's TH-cam accounts. Only way to watch videos with that turned off is to either search for them individually or use the Subscriptions feed (which is very editable). TH-cam needs to put a child's Subscription control under the parents' control, with a password only the parents know. Also, a password should be required on childrens' accounts if they want to use the search bar. If TH-cam would include these capabilities, it would put complete control of what children watch on their own accounts under the parents' control.

I grew up with pseudoscience due to family ties to that waldorf/steiner school cult movement. for getting me out of it, I credit the now much-maligned youtube sceptic/new atheism thing (before many of those content creators turned into fascist grifters around 2014). pseudoscientific and specifically pseudohistorical content has always been very popular on youtube. what's happening now is just an inferior AI-generated imitation of that successful content, because making extraordinary pseudoscientific claims that lend themselves to flashy titles and thumbnails was identified as the most popular and lucrative youtube videos one can make within the technical limitations of the robot voiceover and non-copyrighted picture and video material.

I love science. These new, automated, science channels are destroying the very beauty of learning new factual information. Now, whenever I hear an automated human voice in any of the recommended channels YT suggests, I press the "do not recommend" button so I don't get flooded with BS content.

As a physicist who is very much in support of agnosticism NOT pseudo-skepticism when it comes to controversial or fringe topics, i think its important to keep in mind that dogma in any domain, whether its religion or science, is detrimental to progress. I teach philosophy of science and epistemology to undergrads, i always remind them that the "demarcation problem" is still an ongoing debate that's not fully settled after two millennia. However, media and many of these so called "science educators" like to pretend that pseudo-science can always be easily distinguished from "real" science and their status as pseudo-science will always remain as such, when history is rife with examples showing otherwise. They also subscribe to the worldview that only science is the ultimate authority to describe the world around them aka, Scientism. The main flaw in our educational system is that we teach kids to "do science" without or before even teaching them the assumptions of methodological naturalism on which science operates on, which by the way, are always being challenged in many domains. I grew up with such a narrow perspective at a young age thinking science was the ultimate authority until i was schooled by a philosopher who made me realize i was merely regurgitating the things that was taught in colleges without questioning them. I'm trying to pass on the same wisdom to everyone now.

I am very happy with Mathematics and Science text books, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, in Maths each exercise has anywhere between 20-50 sums and each chapter has about 200-500 sums sometimes even more upto 800 sums in big chapters, but that’s the way to practice and it’s sufficient if you revise twice or sometimes thrice each chapter, science books are in-depth ,very knowledgeable,detailed and informative,excellent text books, good enough to read,write and to work in it, rather get distracted with internet and other things .
These days school kids think they know everything, need to constantly remind them that you go to school to learn, mistakes can happen ,you need to to quickly learn from it and ensure not to repeat it again, to work on it till you master it……Good text books, good teachers, good students who want to learn and put efforts are important, nowadays kids getting distracted by social media, and teachers should not encourage kids to refer from internet much ,tell them to just read their text books thoroughly.

Only the other day, a channel that I commonly watch was starting to spout the most absurd piece of pseudoscience - 'that there's no such thing as reality and we're all part of one big brain in a dead universe.' (Yes, seriously). Recently, I have scrubbed several subscriptions for diving after ridiculous new 'trendy' conspiracy theories. Even if the presenters are only investigating them tongue-in-cheek style, it makes no difference. Don't give such silly theories air-time, get on with quality productions stating all the latest facts from the most trusted sources. We don't need to have conspiracists confusing children any more than they are now. It's enough that they are learning to develop moral standards and well as learning good, solid basics in a general education. I think that there should be more emphasis on teaching critical thinking skills, getting children used to the idea that every time they are presented with any new type of information (whether it sounds like it could be factual or not) they are trained to research it through tried and trusted means.

Yes, parents should educate kids and teach them to think critically. At the same time, we should be reducing the amount of nonsense that kids have to sift through. Their brains are not fully developed and are particularly sensitive to this type of disinformation. As a physicist who is very much in support of agnosticism NOT pseudo-skepticism when it comes to controversial or fringe topics, i think its important to keep in mind that dogma in any domain, whether its religion or science, is detrimental to progress. I teach philosophy of science and epistemology to undergrads, i always remind them that the "demarcation problem" is still an ongoing debate that's not fully settled after two millennia. However, media and many of these so called "science educators" like to pretend that pseudo-science can always be easily distinguished from "real" science and their status as pseudo-science will always remain as such, when history is rife with examples showing otherwise.
They also subscribe to the worldview that only science is the ultimate authority to describe the world around them aka, Scientism. The main flaw in our educational system is that we teach kids to "do science" without or before even teaching them the assumptions of methodological naturalism on which science operates on, which by the way, are always being challenged in many domains. I grew up with such a narrow perspective at a young age thinking science was the ultimate authority until i was schooled by a philosopher who made me realize i was merely regurgitating the things that was taught in colleges without questioning them. I'm trying to pass on the same wisdom to everyone now.

I am very happy with Mathematics and Science text books, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, in Maths each exercise has anywhere between 20-50 sums and each chapter has about 200-500 sums sometimes even more upto 800 sums in big chapters, but that’s the way to practice and it’s sufficient if you revise twice or sometimes thrice each chapter, science books are in-depth ,very knowledgeable,detailed and informative,excellent text books, good enough to read,write and to work in it, rather get distracted with internet and other things .
These days school kids think they know everything, need to constantly remind them that you go to school to learn, mistakes can happen ,you need to to quickly learn from it and ensure not to repeat it again, to work on it till you master it……Good text books, good teachers, good students who want to learn and put efforts are important, nowadays kids getting distracted by social media, and teachers should not encourage kids to refer from internet much ,tell them to just read their text books thoroughly.

We don’t refer to anything much on the internet, our textbooks are very reliable and is a very good resource, full of invaluable information ,it’s the only thing we learn from . Don’t watch AI or any videos much, but watch crocheting ,knitting, how to make bead necklace, bead earrings that my kid is going to gift it to me, she is making it, crafts that’s about it.

Even if the presenters are only investigating them tongue-in-cheek style, it makes no difference. Don't give such silly theories air-time, get on with quality productions stating all the latest facts from the most trusted sources.
We don't need to have conspiracists confusing children any more than they are now. It's enough that they are learning to develop moral standards and well as learning good, solid basics in a general education.
I think that there should be more emphasis on teaching critical thinking skills, getting children used to the idea that every time they are presented with any new type of information (whether it sounds like it could be factual or not) they are trained to research it through tried and trusted means.
