"It says here that you're from Detroit. What part?" "The part you drive through doing 85." "Been there." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie ACTING debut of Mark Wahlberg. Location Location Fact: Scenes of the fictional "Fort McClane" were filmed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Landmarks, the post's motto (Victory Starts Here), and the distinctive unit insignia of Fort Jackson all reveal the true identity of the base. Music Enthusiast Fact: Throughout the movie, the recruits treat Private Haywood as if he has no rhythm, leaving him out of their rap song, and making fun of him when he is trying to keep a beat on the desk. In real life, Mark Wahlberg was a professional rapper. The song for the closing credits is United (1994) by Prince Ital Joe and Mark Wahlberg. Casting Notes Fact: According to Penny Marshall's memoir, the part of Sergeant Cass was originally offered to Ving Rhames. He turned it down, as a friend (Quentin Tarantino) had written a part for him specifically in Pulp Fiction (1994). When he turned the role down, it was offered to Gregory Hines. Penny Marshall's only concern was that Gregory Hines was too nice. Even when he was yelling at the troops, he came off as nice.
You didn't have a good teacher, then you'll hate my nephew's teacher. When my nephew was still in school, the 4th grade got a new teacher, Mr. Daniels. He taught this 4th grade class Shakespeare. With each book, they got names of characters. He had the comic version as well as the For Dummies books he sometimes allowed them to read, as to help them understand better. This love of Shakespeare grew within them; so much so, they did the Balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. However, each version would be don't in a different way. One couple did reverse role, the guilt was Romeo, and the boy was Juliet. Another pair were robots. My nephew didn't have a partner, so he opened the show with Shakespeare's 'All The World's a Stage' monologue. They stuff this before their families and their classmates. Mr. Daniels was a big hit, and all the 3rd grade classes wanted to be in his class next year. The Man was unconventional. So much so, many years ago, he changed his name by reversing his first and last name (yes, he was born as Daniel) and added Spam, spam, eggs and spam as s middle name. He was a big fan of Monty Python's Flying Cirrus.
Teaching is a great career, I highly recommend it! I remember seeing this when it was new; I need to watch it again. "Blackboard Jungle" and "Goodbye Mr. Chips" were the films that inspired me to teach.
Thanks, Oliver! 🫡 Your misspelled Mr. Wahlberg's name in your video's header. 🔸 This is one I never saw, never heard of it... like you. But I made a point of watching it just now so I could enjoy your reaction. I'm so glad I did because I love several of the performers and the director, Penny Marshall. It even made me cry. So, I owe you additional thanks. 🌷
You should also tell us more about yourself, what type of teacher do u want to be, are u a cat or dog person, are u a religious person do u like pineapple on pizza
I love that you react this movie! I have suggested many reactors to react this one, but nobody has done it yet. I hope your reaction will encourage others to react the movie. Movie is very underrated Danny DeVito movie and like you when I watched first time I didn't know very little about the movie except that it was placed at the army and it was Danny DeVito movie.
Great reaction! I love this movie. Anothet teacher/student movie I highly recommend watching is "Stand And Deliver" released in 1987 starring Edward James Olmos in an Oscar nominated performance and Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Young Guns). It is based on a true story and is a terrific film with great performances, especially by Olmos.
If you're serious about watching a great Hamlet performance, then watch Laurence Olivier in the 1948 film version of Hamlet- it's the very best you'll ever see! b-t-w.. you have GORGEOUS LIPS!
I love this movie. I dont get the low scores either. Is it a great film with great cinematography? Obviously not. But its entertaining and had a good story.
I think the bad reviews (by professional critics) that result in that 12% on RT were mostly a result of it following on the heels of _Big_ and _A League of Their Own,_ Penny Marshall's previous two movies, both of which are much better than this film. This one is just a little too predictable and by the book, but its not bad -- just average. But an average film after two amazing films creates a heightened sense of disappointment. If Marshall had made this _before_ Big, it would have been better recieved. This film also came out at the end of a period of too many teacher-helps-misfit-students films, many of which are better (like Dead Poets Society), and was judged more harshly for it. I enjoy this one -- Danny DeVito is almost always gold -- but I'm surprised it was recommended to you. I had honestly forgotten it even existed, though I saw it when it came out. But yeah, honest opinion, this movie is not bad, but it also doesn't need to exist. It's a movie. There ya go.
I also think that Danny DeVito works well as a co lead, but not as the main lead. His particular brand of angry schtick works best when it's played against a straight man or someone even more over the top.
This is such an underrated movie. Glad you reacted to it and enjoyed it!
The St. Crispin’s Day speech, from Henry V, is one of my faves, and having it recited here always gets me.
at lease this time i didn't get a tear in my eye

A teacher? Awesome!
Go with God and Be Safe from Evil. 😎 👍
Thank you everyone for your service!

If your dream is to teach I recommend the following:
Mr.Holands Opus
The Grizzlies
Dead Poets Society
Fist Fight
I think he has already seen Dead Poets Society. He should put the others onto his watch list. :)
I'm watching this on the Canadian Thanksgiving, and I love that you showed the sign that read "Canada." ^_^

Ooooh, I'd leave the pineapple on pizza one. Ollie will see half his subs leave if he admits to that heinous act 🍍🍕🤢
A very underrated movie.

Loved this movie. Saw it when it came out & it inspired my love of Shakespeare.

I was so confused for a minute because I recognised the film poster but not the name. Turns out it was called 'Army Intelligence' in Australia.
wow I didn't know that
i was waiting for someone to do this movie.. Thanks I enjoyed your review
Mark Wahlberg used to be a rapper by the name Marky Mark.
This was a fun movie. A little bit of a trope, but the cast made it really good.
Good luck, candidate! Teaching...your Dream Job and your Worst Nightmare...at the same time...! 😂😢😂😢
Forgot all about this movie. Haven't seen it since it first came out. Good movie if I recall correctly.

What kind of teacher are you studying to be? And your thumbnail is hilarious 😂
I thought you were a film student.
