Pentatonix has 10 years of songs for you to explore and I can confidently say that you can pick any song and it'll be great. They're probably best known for their seven Christmas albums, with originals and creative takes on standard holiday songs. They also do covers of pop songs from a variety of decades and styles, from 40's swing to Motown to K-pop, and "Evolutions" and medleys that combine dozens of songs into a 4-minute track. They also have two albums of original songs, with all group members contributing songs in their own style. And most of the group members have side projects and albums.

The music was recorded in Avi's closet (he and Kevin were room-mates at the time) and the video was recorded in their kitchen. Total cost was apparently $400 and won them a Grammy for arrangment

"Pentatonix-Aha!, Singapore, star vista" is one of my favorites. It's fancam but Mitch (and the whole group of course) is incredible there. Also telephone from star vista is amazing!
It's only fair to warn you that this video is often called the "Where's Kevin" video. He is off stage through the intro, but comes in about the time Avi starts the main song, but you never see him... the fan that filmed this video was focused on Mitch and Avi so you never see the other end of the stage.
You acted like a little boy who just opened every Christmas present and got every single thing you asked Santa for and I am LIVING for your reactions 🥰
Anything they do is amazing. They cover hymns, Christmas music, rap, pop, you name it. Try The Ceiling Can’t Hold Us, Havana, Say Something. Their originals like Coffee In Bed, Run To You, Happy Now are awesome. You can’t miss because they never miss.
To perfect this sound, Mitch and Kirstie admitted in an interview that they have many, many days that are 12+ hours long. That was a huge factor in their choice of a bass to replace Avi. They needed someone who was familiar with acapella, and the amount of work that sound takes. Matt Sallee had just graduated with his degree in vocal performance from the Berkelee College of Music in Boston. He had years experience with acapella. And he’s done great since he joined the group in late 2017. And by the way, they made this video in a kitchen closet for $400!
My bad - I forgot to highlight that another of the Grammys they won was "Jolene" in which they performed with the legendary Dolly Parton. Needless to say, the Grammy was well deserved!
In the Jolene performance, what you see and hear is a single take without any production trickery applied. Other than rehearsals, it looks like it really was the one and only 'live' take.
Their beatboxer. Kevin Olusola, is called "the human 808". He is immensely talented, and smart! He gave up a medical school program at Yale to join PTX. His solo work will drop your jaw. He uses a looper, makes an electric cello sound like a hard rock guitar, plays keyboard, and sings in multiple voices, making a song sound like a full band...all by himself. Check out his cover of "Down", by Marian Hill. Oh, and he speaks 5 languages, including Chinese. All 5 of them are unique, vastly talented, and genuinely nice people. This video was filmed in a closet in an apartment, and recorded in the kitchen of the same apartment when the venue they had booked fell through. It cost just over $400 to make. You can't go wrong with any of their vast catalog.
Kevin the beatboxer dropped out of Yale where he was studying Pre-Med. He is also a classically trained Cellist. They found him on you tube doing what he did Cello Boxing. He also speaks fluent Mandarin.
Mitch is the guy with the very high voice, you’ll continue to be amazed by him (all of them, but especially him), Scott is the tall blonde, baritone. Kirstie is the girl (that’s how she used to refer to herself, she’s a lot more than that obviously) she’s the soprano. Kevin is the amazing beat boxer (arguably the most talented, he can cello box, sing, play drums, piano, rap etc..) Avi (Ah Vee) is the bass, he left the group in 2017 (under the best, most amicable circumstances, he creates also solo music) Matt is the new bass since 2018, he has a different bass voice, but he’s absolutely amazing, has a perfect smooth singing voice and he is the most joyful individual ever, he’s a great addition to the group. The fans are called Pentaholics, and I am one!

I’ve just started watching you today because of your Pentatonix journey. Your Hallelujah reaction made me cry but this reaction made me subscribe. It’s EPIC right. Their talent is off the chart. I mean it sounds studio produced…but nah it’s their voices amazing huh! Enjoy the rabbit hole love. 😉
Dont worry about the pauses, your reaction/comments are great. And besides Sony (SME) is brutal with copyright blocking, so the pauses will help you anyway :)
I love your reaction to PTX! Yes! You need to go all the way down the PTX rabbit hole. They have some amazing originals too. I just subscribed for the PTX reactions
I could listen to them all day (I often do) and watching you enjoy them is such a thrill! Can’t wait for your next one. I agree with you too: they always seem like they are having so much fun and it’s infectious!
The smiling-when-possible part you noted is a signature part of their presence. They honestly enjoy time together, it seems. Notice that they actually can reproduce any of these audio tracks out on tour live.
I love seeing people discover Pentatonix for the first time. You asked about their originals. One of my favorites is "Love Again" They've also got some really cool looks in that video. Someone else mentioned "Sing." That's excellent too.
You are so much fun to watch!!! This old PTX fan is really enjoying watching you discovering them!! You love Mitch Grassi's voice? Check out their fan recorded live AHA Singapore, the Star Vista !!!
There is a video you need to check out. It called "Beginner Guide to Pentatonix". It shows snippets of their soo many videos highlighting each member while giving a history.
This was their first music video! They recorded the song and the video on Kevin and Avi's apartment. They spent $400 on the video and they won a Grammy! If you want to see Mitch's range, check out PTX doing A Ha live at the Star Vista in Singapore (Avi blew out the speakers with an "omfg how low is that???" note at the beginning, then Mitch proceeds to go completely off the chain. It's from a fan's phone, and they're an absolute legend for getting this once in a lifetime performance and uploading it! There's also Superfruit, which is Mitch's and Scott's side project. Their cover of Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked is just crazy (and shows off Scott's higher range too!). And with Superfruit, you always have to watch to the end, because there's bloopers (if you want to see them be complete goofballs, the Yoga Challenge video is just off the charts hilarity and Mitch over sharing a wee bit). They also have original songs, that are so much fun!
Just discovered you and I LOVE your energy, plus I'm obsessed with pentatonix so I'm stoked that you're discovering them! Check out their performances from the tv show The Sing Off that they won and got discovered from, they're seriously incredible! Also they definitely do have originals, for example I suggest If I Ever Fall In Love, Can't Sleep Love, Run To You
Love how excited you get listening to them!😁 They do also a stunning rendition of the music from Star Wars! It’s live but it’ll blow your mind. But I’ll say again, you need to watch Mitch(the guy with the voice you like!) and Scott doing a fun & beautifully sung live version of the song “Defying Gravity”! You’ll know it by the bad green face paint and witches hat on Mitch..and the blonde wig on Scott.😆 But the vocals will literally blow your mind! It’s from Mitch & Scott’s side TH-cam acct, Superfruit! Please check it out. You won’t be disappointed!😊
"That can not be his voice" 😀 I wanna get one Euro each time a reactor says that sentence, I'd have a lot of money right now! Your enthusiasm is fantastic to watch, I can't wait to go this journey further with you, awesome reaction! 😍
Yes, they do have originals. Sing, Love Again, Light in the Hallway, Can't Sleep Love, just to name a few... You should look into where they got their start, on a show called the Sing Off. It was an a capella competition. Nick LeShay was the host. Check out Pentatonix ,Sing Off Season 3.
It's 7 songs by Daft Punk, the French EDM duo (recently retired), put together in a DJ style mix. They did an original EDM song : Love Again. In terms of crazy/impossible, they did a version of Bohemian Rhapsody that was recommended by Brian May. Do you like Imagine Dragons? Try Radioactive. They got some help from a dancing violinist. Their Havana has excellent atmosphere so you just get sucked into the mood. Lots more. When Christmas comes around again, they have 4 or 5 albums of that. Some traditional, some modern, some originals. Just for fun and to get your mood jump started, their original "Sing!" is so much fun. Watch for the cameos.
They actually got their first Grammy for this arrangement in the category “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella”. I was lucky and blessed enough to see them live in Seattle 3 times shortly after they won the Sing-Off. They are even better live. Absolutely AMAZING. Every single one of them, but my favorites are Avi and Kevin. I just love bass and percussion. I absolutely LOVE and adore your reaction to one of my absolute favorite bands. Sending love to you and your family from Germany. ❤

Bohemian Rhapsody, Sound of Silence, My Favorite Things, and Havana are some of my favorites also. Adore their original songs a lot too. Gotta love people getting Mitch slapped. You too can become a Pentaholic! New sub just for your reactions to them.
You gotta hear their cover of Camila Cabello's Havana. It's the first one they did with Matt Sallee after he joined the group replacing Avi Kaplan, and IMHO it is better than the original.
They are so amazing! You should definately check out their Sound of Silence and Bohemian Rhapsody next. But you can't go wrong with whatever song you choose to listen to!
Yes, respect for the video! They did this in the kitchen of one of the members for a grand total of $400! Crazy what you can do when you have talent lol
yes they have some amazing original stuff as well, but are best known for their covers: Love Again (older); Happy Now (2020 with new bass); Be My Eyes (2020 with Kirstie on lead)
They are a family. They are so close it makes their harmony just all that better! Binge all their songs and become a pentaholic like so many of us are! 😊
First, they always give you a little side smile, because they know precisely how good they are and how much they are about to absolutely blow your mind. Second, they did this without ANY special effects, auto tune, or instruments. Not only that, but they recorded and edited on an iPad in their closet and kitchen for like $400. Third, their is another video of them performing this live with nothing more than a couple microphones in a hotel conference room for a handful of VIP fans. They pride themselves on being able to perform all of their music live and completely acapella. Lastly, they actually won their first Grammy for this remix of several Daft Punk songs. I love your reactions, and that you finally fell down the Pentatonix rabbit hole with the rest of us Pentaholics. I could tell they had you hooked 10 seconds into the first video.
They made this video in Avi and Kevin's apartment for $400.00, and won their first Grammy for it.
It's not the editing, they actually sing it like that live, with all the the cuts and "scratches" in the audio, it's absolutely amazing!!!

It was recorded in the closet and filmed in the kitchen, but yeah... what you said.
@@gingerjohnson1095 Whups! Thanks for setting the record straight.
Good summary, Melissa.
Me too 😁
Perfect comment! The best Pentaholic spokesperson! But I'm still the one with a PENTAHOLIC tattoo! Lolol!! Teasing!!! No, you summed that up perfectly!! 💜
@@beverlykrebs4372 I don’t have a pentaholic tattoo, but I was lucky enough to get a hat (it just arrived).
@@melissacoviello2886 oooh!! Which one do you have??!! I got a red winter hat with the name on the front. It just doesn't really get cold enough very often where I live in central North Carolina to wear a warm hat! LOL!! I'm excited for you that you got your hat!!! 😃💜
I love your reaction to Pentatonix music! Cheers!🇨🇦
Their take on Bohemian Rhapsody is amazing! If you want to have a teardrop of pure joy though, react to their version of "The Prayer". It's SO good!
Agree on this!
I'm 67 yrs old and still discovering new music. I love the joy you have in music!!
Your excitement is contagious even though I have heard this song hundred of times! Yes, they have 2 albums of original stuff. Check out: Sing, Love Again, Run to You, Can't Sleep Love, Happy Now, Coffee in Bed and That's Christmas to Me.
I love watching you react! Your brain melted and you went insane OMG,
One of their original creations that have a similar vibe is “Love Again.” You will be blown away as well. Your next should be Bohemian Rhapsody.
Yes! I was going to comment this one but I saw yours, I second this!
One of my favourites of their originals. Check it out for sure!
Yes Love Again is great! One of my faves as well! Love Mitch in that one Love Love Love!
I absolutely love Love Again. Kevin and Avi composed and wrote it.
Some pentatonix originals: Can't Sleep Love (which I think cracked the top 40 in the USA), and Love Again, which is a personal fave.
I sorta wanna stick up my hand here and say, you gotta watch *Carol of the Bells* which is one of their really old ones but if you love Mitch's voice, you'll be staring the entire time wondering when he breathes :P
Ooh and pentatonix 90s medley is awesome
Wait till Mitch ( the guy with the high voice hits one of his really high notes) he is a counter tenor with a really clear voice...they are all amazing singers and are really incredible when they harmonize together...your'e rigt whe you said you have only scratched the surface, they have tons of covers for you to enjoy
I love it when people discover them you can’t go wrong with any of there stuff Plus there Christmas music is the only Christmas music I listen too
I used to hate Little Drummer Boy with a passion until they did it. Now it’s on a loop every December 😂
Watching someone discover Pentatonix for the first time is such a treasure.
It’s indeed awesome, they are doing a medley of multiple songs from the band “Daft Punk”
The smiling-when-possible part you noted is a signature part of their presence. They honestly enjoy time together, it seems.
Notice that they actually can reproduce any of these audio tracks out on tour live.
Pentaholic here in 2022🙋🏼♀️
Loovvee your genuine reaction! Keep ‘em coming!!
Welcome to the rabbit 🐇 hole ❤️🔥❤️🔥🥳🥳
Their rendition of Imagine is crazy good!
I love seeing people discover Pentatonix for the first time. You asked about their originals. One of my favorites is "Love Again" They've also got some really cool looks in that video. Someone else mentioned "Sing." That's excellent too.
1st of 3 Grammys 🥰
"I don't know why I'm nervous."
I LOVED his shock 😂😂😂
You are so much fun to watch!!! This old PTX fan is really enjoying watching you discovering them!! You love Mitch Grassi's voice? Check out their fan recorded live AHA Singapore, the Star Vista !!!
I can't wait for him to do aha Singapore lololololollolol
He's not ready.....
@Daniel Carter I agree, he's not ready!
Also, if you do check out Superfruit, be sure to watch through the credits. There are often bloopers at the end that are worth their weight in gold.
They are even more perfect Live in Concert. Best show I've even been to EVER!
Ok,guess it's time for bohemian rhapsody. They have several originals, my favorite is coffee in bed
90s dance hits would be good for you too, Mitch sing alot of it
Some favorites by them are Bohemian Rhapsody, Sound of Silence, and The Prayer
Yes to all!
You've stumbled upon the most diverse and musically interesting of the a capella groups. Their arrangements, their blend and their ability to upgrade songs are unmatched in the a capella community. If you like super low base or country versions of popular songs then check out the other groups (HF and VP)
They do in fact have original material. Highly recommend "Sing" and "Na Na Na"
Love the energy my guy. They won a Grammy for this gem. Can't miss with Pentatonix. I'll be back for the next video! Great job!
everytime you freak out omg I giggle a lot like... YEP that's my reaction with them too years back:D
@The Lone Ranger just my Personal opinion...but I think they're ALL better than the originals.
Great reaction, you already a Pentaholic 😄 go down the rabbit hole, you wont be dissapointed.. There is soooooo much more to come ❤
They are so amazing! You should definately check out their Sound of Silence and Bohemian Rhapsody next. But you can't go wrong with whatever song you choose to listen to!
Watching you discovering this is everything.....
Yes, respect for the video! They did this in the kitchen of one of the members for a grand total of $400! Crazy what you can do when you have talent lol
If you haven't seen it yet , their video , "Amazing Grace" is amazing
yes they have some amazing original stuff as well, but are best known for their covers: Love Again (older); Happy Now (2020 with new bass); Be My Eyes (2020 with Kirstie on lead)
In case someone didn’t say it, they filmed this in their closet at home. They spent less than $400, I believe, on the production of the video.
They are a family. They are so close it makes their harmony just all that better! Binge all their songs and become a pentaholic like so many of us are! 😊
Remember kiddies, they got a Grammy for this video!
Lol ok. You got me on board. Another great reaction. 🤣😍
