Once exposed to PTX, there is no vaccine to help you. You are correct. They are from another planet. No one like them on earth, not even close. It's more than just harmony. Lots of groups can do that. It's the total package that takes them to another level. It was the bass singer that left, but the new guy is just as good in his own way. You just had a life altering moment if this is the first you have heard of them. Every thing they touch is unique in it's own way. Most if not all of their covers are better than the original in many ways. 10 out of 10 indeed! Welcome to the club! And by the way, they can do it live.

It was for arrangement. The video didn't win a Grammy, even though it should have.
Pentatonix, a band without instruments, won their second Grammy for Dance Of the Sugar Plum Fairy, a song without words.

No Kevin is an original member. The guy with the deep voice and beard is Avi. He left on ambicle terms and was replaced by Matt who was in the 90's Dance Medley. Great reaction 👍

Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch sang together as The Trio in high school. They picked up Kevin (beatboxer) and Avi (original bass) to form Pentatonix in 2011. Matt replaced Avi in 2017. They named themselves Pentatonix after the Pentatonic Scale and there are 5 (Penta) band members. They all have Theater or formal training. Kirstin was on Broadway for a bit in Kinky Boots.

Avi-the bass singer often added with the beat boxing. He left the group amicably due to family issues. He was replaced by Matt Sallee, another amazing bass singer. Kevin, the beat boxer is an original member of the group.
Avi also added amazing over tones in some songs. I love when reactors hear that for the 1st time! They all say the same thing with "that" look on their faces - "Wait! What IS that sound? Is Kevin doing that? What IS that?!? 😲"
Kevin is a tenor. He also is a polyglot with several languages under his belt including Chinese. He also plays angelic cello.

This was, indeed, their first Grammy. For the arrangement.
As the first commenter said, Kevin - the Beatboxer - has been there since the beginning. It's the bassist who changed. This was their original bassist, the "new" bassist was Matt from the first video you watched. Mitch, Scott and Kirstin, the three vocalists, grew up together in musical theater and choir in Arlington, TX. They were making their own arrangements and singing as "The Trio" in high school. In 2011 they decided to try for the TV show The Sing-Off and for that they needed 5 members so they found Avi and Kevin. The five of them got together in person for the first time the day before the audition... the rest is history. The Trio were 19 (Mitch skipped his high school graduation), Kevin was 22 and Avi was 21.
One song that doesn't ever get requests that I think you'd enjoy is their cover of Jack U and Justin Beiber's Where Are U Now. They got their harmonies so tight at the beginning they sound like the vocoder used in the original. And another that they did amazing things with is Kiiara's Gold. Where the original chorus isn't sung live, but instead sampled vocals played by Kiiara's DJ, Mitch does the effect entirely himself with his insane vocal control - and the official video is sung live.
I also stand by my original suggestion of their original "EDM" Love Again. The video was done about the same timeperiod as Daft Punk and there are a lot of similarities in the way they approached it. But they wrote and composed it, themselves, and it's pretty epic.
Daftpunk was done in 2013 and their original Love Again written by Avi and Kevin not until late 2014. You know their "old" bassist. Don't worry though PTX actually has edited out any pictures of Avi singing with them in this their first grammy for their ad for acappella classes. They are erasing him entirely. Pretty petty I think.

I hope that's not the case... let's not jump to conclusion that that was Pentatonix's decision; it might have been due to legal considerations/contracts, or a request of Avi/Avi's label. (Let's be real: Music Business is 10% music and 90% business.) I honestly can't picture there being animosity amongst any of the members (past & present) to that level...

I suggest you follow this up with Love Again, a PTX original, released immediately after Daft Punk. It also has an EDM vibe. And after that, their cover of Can't Hold Us (Macklemore & Lewis) will WOW you yet again.
Love Again was released a year later but does use the same video setup. It is an original written by Avi and Kevin who were roommates for a few years starting out.
“Love Again” will push you that extra inch over into pentaholicism. 😆
If you were impressed by their Daft Punk medley, then you will be blown away with their stunning cover of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Another fantastic recommendation is La La Latch, and their upgrade of Gold by Kiiara. If you haven’t heard her original version of Gold please listen to it ( but don’t react to it) because Pentatonix does what she does with layered tracks live. It’s truly impressive!
Beatboxer is Kevin, he has been with group since the beginning. Matt Salle took bass roll over in 2017 for Avi (guy with beard.) when Avi had to care for family. Avi is the only change in the groups history all others are still there. "Love Again" an early original is crazy. Kevin the beatboxer makes some insane sounds. i would have thought they were computerized until I saw him do it live...dude is so gifted. Also...Try "Imagine" Kevin sings in that one!

Hi. My name is Victor. And I'm a PENTAHOLIC.
Some PTX history: The member who left is Avi (the gent with the beard.) The increasing demands from the bands' success was impacting his well-being. Mitch (dark hair) and Kirsten have known each other since the were 8 years old. They started singing with Scott (white hair) when they went to high school together. The three were introduced to Avi by a mutual friend. They invited Kevin to join after they saw him CelloBoxing on TH-cam. They recorded this at Avi's apartment. The audio in his closet. The video in his kitchen. Check out their "Kiss From a Rose" to hear Matt (Avi's replacement,) and to see Kevin flexing his Cello and vocal chops.
The bass (corn rows) Avi Kaplan was in the group until 2017, left for personal reasons, amicably. He was replace by Matt Sallee at that time. No other changes have been made to the group. Mitch and Kirsten change their looks all the time, but still same group other than that one change. They won their first grammy for this in 2015. They have also won grammys in 2016 and 2017 for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Jolene with Dolly Parton. The other members are the beatboxer, Kevin, he also plays cello in a handful of songs WHILE beatboxing. The tenor with dark hair is Mitch and the tallest member is Scott who also does bass while Avi/Matt has a singing part. He has a huge range.

You will love their original called Love Again! Kevin, vocal percussion, is an original member. Avi, bearded guy who does the bass sounds, left the group in 2017. :( Family needed him, schedule was crazy. He has a solo career now. We love our Avi! Matt replaced him. He was in the 90's Dance Medley that I believe you reacted to. Thank you for appreciating PTX as much as we do!
If I recall correctly, their 90s medley was your first reaction. Matt had already replaced Avi by this time. Matt wore a red blazer in some of visuals for 90s medley. In this video, you are seeing the original five. Avi, the bearded one, is the bass. He left the group amicably. Matt replaced him as base.

to answer your questions the member who got left and got replaced was Avi who you see in this video doing bass the new bass member who you saw in the previous reaction video was Matt. Our boy Kevin (with the glasses)is the human 808 and he has been with the group since the start. Hahah and yes they are other worldly .. but they say they’re from Texas, I’m still convinced they are just aliens wearing human skins. And yes they’ve won a few Grammys’ one was for this song. Kevin is the original Beatboxer and he plays the Cello while doing it. Scott was lucky to get Kevin and convince him to join PTX in 2011. Scott helped cover the airfare to get Kevin to LA for the TV show "the sing-off" which they won. Kevin is a BEAST as a person and not just Beatboxing because he graduated from Yale and considering pre-med before his life changed after joining the group. PTX just had their 10th anniversary in June but the original three have been singing for almost 20 years (the reason they blend so well) Scott and Mitch met when they were 10 years old and Mitch had met Kirstin when he was 8. They all did Community Arts Theater from Arlington, Texas. Kevin was from Kentucky though both parents are doctors in Maryland. Kevin sets the tone and he has perfect pitch so everyone tunes to him.
You probably already know. But this was not long after they won the sing off. They won $200 thousand and a recording contract. They moved to LA and the company dropped them. They took the money and started making youtube videos. This was recorded in a closet and filmed in a kitchen. They won a Grammy for it. So there record company. In your face. The combined net worth of pentatonix is now $80 million. Shows what massive talent and determination can get you.

Matt started as bass late 2017. There has been no other member change in their 10-year history. They are awesome. Suggestions: "The Sound Of Silence", and "Hallelujah"
Save some time and just admit it: 'I am a Pentaholic". Welcome and you will enjoy everything. Kirstie has an original solo album. Mitch just released his first EP Messer. Scott has numerous duets with a variety of artists. Kevin has own channel he plays cello and beatbox at the same time. There is also Superfruit which is Scott and Mitch do project. To say they are other worldly talented is an understatement.

One suggestion: place your headphones on BOTH ears. Otherwise you will miss out on some of the effects, like panning from one dude to the other, or the full richness of the bass lines. Well worth it!!

Yup, scratching themselves! They first did that in the 2011 television competition The Sing-Off, during their cover of Video Killed the Radio Star (you can find that online). Their medleys and mashups are always stellar. Try any of their "Evolution" videos. They do use a little reverb and so on for the videos, but you can find some great live performances as well, to see what they sound like live.
Amazing! Next up: Love Again. It’s another dancefest and an original song of theirs. As a DJ, you’ll love that too! You can’t really choose a ‘bad’ PTX song, in all honesty, but their “evolution of” videos are a great way to see them doing it all live, and in one take.
Avi (bearded bass) is the member who left, he and Kevin (beatboxer) were an amazing duo and bounced off each other. Matt replaced Avi and does a very good job in his place.
Pentaholics will rarely complain about you pausing and going back, plus the copyright people will not come after you as much the more you pause.
One more thing, I REALLY HOPE YOU DO IT NEXT PLEASE, you might want to add to your DJ set is their 90s dance medley. You will be just as stunned with that one. They did it this year and it's amazing!!

They really do a great job using left to right sounds. If ya have both ears in stereo, it makes you feel the sound is traveling right through your head. Bohemian rhapsody is an excellent example of the wind sound doing just that

I think their very first original song "Love Again" will blow your mind. It's in the same spirit of this one. Edm. When Kevin dropped that bass.....OMG! I lost my freakin' mind! I went in hard with that assdrop. I was like..."What?! I gotta run that back and hear it again." No lie...he sounded like an actual edm bass drop from the turntables. I was shook. And Mitch.....he's on 10 with his vocal range going up there.

This was their first Grammy for arraignment. They recorded it in the closet of Avi and Kevin's apartment. The contacts were giving Avi problems as you can see by his red eyes. Kevin had an allergic reaction to them. BTW, look into their cover of "Imagine"
Avi was the original Bass, he left in 2017. Matt came on board after that and he is awesome also. They spent $400.00 on this video, and made it in Avi and Kevin's kitchen and closet. They also won their first Grammy for this. Kevin is the only beatboxer. They won the show the Sing Off back in 2011. They have been together for 10 years. You have some catching up to do.. The bass left the group--his name was Avi Kaplan. Avi has his own music, channel and collaborations. Matt Sallie was his replacement. Matt has a different voice, not as much a true bass as Avi, but he has this soulful voice that is very useful for PTX music covers and originals.

Mitch, Scott and Kirsten grew up together in Austin. They dang together since they were kids. They did high school musicals and choir. They added Avi and Kevin for the Sing off show. Which they won.
They were so lucky to find Kevin. He upgrades every song they do with his work. I heard Scott & Mitch were friends first, then in high school Mitch met Kirstin and then the 3 of them were together after that. When they wanted to do the tv competition show The Sing Off, they found Avi through word of mouth after searching for a bass singer. Then Scott saw Kevin on TH-cam and thought he was amazing and contacted him. Lucky for them, Kevin was in. After 7 years or so, Avi left and they auditioned new bass singers and chose Matt

Kevin is an original and the main beatboxer, Matt joins the group when Avi leaves, This guy is headed down the rabbit hole of Pentatonix, someone needs to give him a history lesson of Pentatonix and let him know that they received their first GRAMMY with this song

They hail from Arlington Texas, moved to California to participate in the Sing Off which they won and where they got their start.!not sure if they are still in California or back in Texas that was 10 years ago..

Avi Kaplan the bass left in2017 and was replaced with Matt Salee who is presently with the group. Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer.
The Five Faces of New Pentaholics
1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah
2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, and Mad World.
3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions.
4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine and most especially Thank You.
5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.
This song is not arch-typical of their music list. Their genre choices are all over the place. Everything from punk to country. Everything they do is fantastic though. My favorite, of course, is "Hallelujah" but nobody will argue that they don't do "Amazing Grace" better than anyone. Their next Grammy was for "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy". They'll amaze you.
BTW, this was their very first TH-cam video. They had no money. So, they got creative and used stuff they had lying around. They filmed it in a closet at the cost of $400. Kevin, the beatboxer, is wearing shades because he was allergic to the material in the contact lenses. They are the living proof that if you are truly _creative_ , you can find a way.
Actually, the only member that was replaced amicably in 2017 is Avi the Bass (he does the 'Television, rules the nation' part in this medley. Kevin (the beatboxer) was not the new guy. If you watch the Sound of Silence, you'll see him (I think you already have seen it at this point...)
