I was pleasantly surprised at how much better the 2023-2024 Breakout is compared to the previous model. My son had a 2015. That model's riding position was way too stretched out and the lean angle was very limited. I could scrape the pegs going around a slight curve at a leisurely pace. The 2023-24 is superior in every every way to the previous model. I'd even call it comfortable and I'm 5'7''. The bike is a pleasure to ride and stunningly beautiful.
Yamaha Raider and Yamaha Warrior. My then 79 but now 80 year old friend George rode his Breakout from Tombstone Arizona to Sturgis and back after 10 days. He did the entire trip alone. George is a Badass!
Own a 2019 Breakout 114. I was looking for a Fatboy last year, went into local dealership and saw 2023 Breakout 117. Long story short ended up trading my Street Glide Special in and riding out on that new Breakout. Some days I just go out in the garage and stare at them. Love my Breakouts.
It's been 20 years since my last bike because of young children. I found the perfect bike to fit me, being 6' 4" most harleys I always felt cramped In 2008 I thought the Big Dog K9 was going to be the bike but the economy took a crap. Just walked out of the Harley dealer purchasing a 2023 Black Denim Breakout. Wow what an awesome bike. Getting some Vance and Hines pipes and a sissy bar installed and we should be good to go. I might even get the forward controls extended 3" but need the rear brake control pad larger first. My shin does rub against the breather some but it's the best option being a taller guy. I can't wait until spring now in the north east.. Thanks Matt for the 2023 Breakout review, as it convinced me to get riding again.
I have a 2015 Breakout and absolutely love it! I think the 3.5 gallon tank looks the best for the bike and its style. The biggest change I made was putting mini apes on it so I could sit in a more upright posture since I’m 6’1. Otherwise the only change I made was having a custom paint job done. Now it’s a very comfortable cruiser!
Thanks for the great review. Ordered one today in white after giving it a test. Gave me a huge smile. I'm 6'2 and it fits like a glove. I had no problems with that large rear tire when going round roundabouts. Got a sissy for Mrs R.
Matt Laidlaw always provides the best reviews and content. His narrative always includes an awesome history lesson and he's always giving an objective review based on subjective reasoning. But I'm a new HD rider, buying my first 2 HDs last year (23 years riding sports bikes and still do). But last year I bought a 2023 Street Bob and 2023 Breakout. Both bikes are incredible. Specifically, I have the Baja Orange Breakout and I love it. It turns a lot of heads and does well for street and even freeway riding. I agree that it's not built for long hauls or touring, but imagine it would do well enough and be comfortable enough for a once in a while longer ride. It definitely is an "attitude" and "style" motorcycle. I'm 5'9" and the bike is a good size with a good seat height for me. I also agree with Matt that 5'10" to 6 foot is the ideal or best height for the rider for this bike. Although my brother rode it comfortably and easily, and he's 5'7". The air cleaner gets in the way a little if you don't know how to maneuver your knee around it, especially with the forward controls...but not a deal breaker. Style, looks, fun, attitude, and being a new HD rider/owner, this bike will accomplish all that. I love looking at it in my garage every day when I'm not riding it.
@@MattLaidlaw Thanks, Matt! I work just down the street from you at KP Baldwin Park. But I live in Santa Clarita and the HD dealership is only a mile from my house But I'm a huge fan of your business and content on here and I'll be trading in and/or buying my next HD from your shop! Happy New Year!
Hey Matt, good review. I bought a 2024 Breakout in vivid black and I love it. No shortage of power here ! It's quick right out of the box. I wrestled with what to buy because I do a bit of highway riding but I fell in love with this thing and just had to buy it. Luckily for me it rides on the highway much better than expected so 1000 mile runs are doable without needing a chiropractor. It's definitely a looker so everywhere you go people are walking up to you saying nice bike.
gorgeous bike, digging the chrome, especially on the white. the paint and graphics on this model seem a little more vibrant, not quite as blah as some of the other models.
I’ve loved the Breakout since it first rolled out. It doesn’t fit my style of daily riding but if I could afford multiple bikes this would definitely be in my lineup. Another great video Matt! Keep up the good work amigo.
Great job! Matt, I love and appreciate the professionalism, especially in this world of amateur you tubers. I love to hear Mickey's input. "This would be my 3rd Harley in the garage" I totally get it! Keep up the great work!
I demo a new one recently and loved it. It’s how in my mind a bike should make you feel. Bad ass. Got to plan your corners but nothing serious. You feel planted. Like you it kind of stretches you with fists out front and feet foreward. That motor just wants to go. Forth gear and up you can get on it and have fun. Forth and down she is tame. I would love to have one, for sure. It’s in my top two for next bike. 😎
The last time I was at a Harley dealer there was a guy getting a new gen Fat Boy serviced and he told me he was surprised at how well it handled. I would love to see a comparison between the Breakout and the Fat Boy. They seem similar.
I would also add the Suzuki M109 as another power cruiser, although I wouldn't call it a chopper. I do love the looks of this bike especially in the white and the blue. I wouldn't say that I would be someone who would buy one though. I like the look of the big rear tire, but I don't want one on my bike. I think if I were to buy something to just tool around on I would choose the Street Bob. Fits my taste better and I feel it lends itself to customizing a bit better. Thanks for another great video Matt. Love your channel.
Coming from a Night Rod Special, I would definitely want to get myself a Breakout. In my own opinion, I feel that both bikes feels generally the same other than the engine, and I can totally appreciate the Breakout! They just feel so similar but there is more support than the NRS since it's already discontinued.. wonder if it would ever get the revival the Breakout got
The yamaha Raider was the bike that Harley duplicated. It was the best in class factory chopper style bike from 2008. It had a 113 cubic inch motor when no one else had anything to match the power and size of that motor. No one ance to compare the Raider and the Break out because you will see where Harley got their styling from, not to mention that you would see where they fell short compared to Yamaha way back since 2008.
Just got one, since v-rods no longer, this was my next best option, super sexy sleek bike with the right amount of everything, good full honest review , nice job Harley Davidson
I’m glad you showed the Honda Fury for comparison. The Breakout is a dream bike for me. I don’t have that kind of coin so I’m looking at the fury. If I didn’t need a vehicle for my job I’d definitely pull the trigger but I’m just happy they’re back!
For sure the best looking HD, but said that. It s just a boulevard Cruiser. Lean angle 👎, practicability👎. Just a summer bike around downtown for 22k$. Really out of my mind for me. But for sure she s really stunning to look at
I wished Harley would offer the chrome on the Low Rider ST, after seeing this its not like Harley don’t have the parts in chrome already, I feel they are missing some of the market, even if they only offered it as a special order only, lets face it Black and chrome is the most beautiful contrast man has ever invented 😂
It's great looking bike! I've ridden one with small tank, it was great on highway. But that bigger gas tank would be way more useful on Street Bob and Standard, just a thought..
The BO is one of my options for my next bike. I do cross state rides and commute 70 miles/day for work. I would just put z bars that are higher and closer to my body and a riders backrest, passenger backrest, and luggage rack
This bike looks so damn hot in this new white color. Could see it live yesterday. Great bike as well, not just looking cool. A perfect modern Harley as it should be!
HAHA so spot on. I just got a 2023 breakout in the vivid black as a side bike to my others rides I have. This is great for tooling around town, a day trip or taking it to a bike night. I've got mini apes on mine which has me riding in a much more upright riding position which makes it more comfortable to ride. I agree the stock seat is actually pretty comfortable and holds you in place really nice. Fun as hell to ride. Again not for an everyday ride but if it was it would do the job. Cool AF looking bike!
I love the fact that you gave some credit to the Fury. I own a '14 Fury that is pretty well accessorized and it is an exceptional bike. This white Breakout has really caught my attention. This would be my first Harley and I can't lie, with a near $23K tag plus tax, freight, set up etc..making the mirrors work and a basic set of slip-ons, you gotta be looking at nearly $26K out the door. It's not an easy decision by any means. This was a perfect review- Thanks. What's your opinion on a 6'4" guy on this bike? Headed to sit on one this week.
Breakouts are actually good bikes IMHO. They don’t suit my taste personally but those are well designed bikes. I will say everyone I knows that owns one has the same gripe and one you mentioned is it’s not great for long haul riding. Great “Bar Hopper”
Good looking bike. Funny how different models are popular in different areas of the country. Here in the mid atlantic area I rarely see any breakouts in the dealer or at events but heritages are relatively popular and I think you've said they don't sell near as much out there.
Damn I want one! The white pearl is sick!!!!! I have loved the breakout ever since it first launched. I love the fat tire chopper-style cruisers like the Break Out and Vrod Muscle. This would be the style of Harly I would buy 2nd being the baggers.
Hey Matt, thank you for showing us the latest breakout. The white pearl colour looks amazing. Can the breakout be fitted with the floor board. For your feet? I love the Fatboy 2021 model. Because of the solid wheels. No slots. Badge has the two wings 🪽 and a few other details that are more appealing than the newest fatboy. I'm leaning towards the Breakout, because it just looks so cool. I'm 5'7 so I would need to stretch the handle bars a bit. So I'm more comfortable. I live in Australia 🇦🇺 I think the price for 2024 will be no change from 2023. About $38,000 Australian dollars. Keep up the great work. I love your v-logs. One other thing. Do you think the future fatboy will get the 117 engine? Same as the breakout? Cheers 🍻 Anthony 🤙😀🙏
If you don't want the scissor gear honda sound, get the 2017 high output 103 Breakout. Pipes, cleaner, cams, tune, done! Still has abs brakes and some goodies. They will pass a 117 after 50-60mph if you want speed but not needed. Atleast you get the last of the Harley sound.
Yes, you an install floor boards on a Breakout. Yea, I think it's possible the Fat boy could get the 117 in the future. It's not a huge deal for me though, we're talking about a 5% power difference. Thanks for the positive feed back. I appreciate the comment.
@MattLaidlaw hokay no worries Matt. 👍🏽 you are more than welcome 🙏 what adventures do you have planned this year? Would you ever go abroad and travel to Australia 🇦🇺 for a road trip? You could catch up with Danny Hayes. 👍🏽🪽🍻💙
Very nice review Matt. I need your opinion about one addition to this bike. I agree that the fewer additions to this bike the better to maintain its style, but what about adding a chrome engine guard? If this bike falls over there is going to be some major unsightly and expensive damage to the bike. I am 66 and have been riding over 50 years and have not dropped a bike since I was in my teens but the way the world is today, someone is liable to kick it over out of spite while it is parked. Would it be best to err on the side of caution and get the engine guard or would that take away from its sleek profile too much? Thank you for your input.
I think it’s fine to put the engine guard on. Especially if you think the bike is at risk of tipping over. That will save you a lot of damage. I didn’t think it will take away too much from the style.
Matt, hope you don't mind one more question. In terms of color choices on the Breakout, will all of these colors have pretty much the same resale value on the bike down the road? I guess I am trying to ask, in your opinion will one of these colors have a better resale down the road than the others? Thank you.
Even know i wouldn't be in the market for one of these i still love the reviews and Harley content maybe an interesting comparison in the future would be this breakout vs the fatboy both are the muscle bikes of Harley. Thank you Matt
Hi Matt, thanks for another great review video. Just wondering, are you aware of any options (H-D or after market) for putting on mid controls (or forward mids) on the Breakout? At 5'7" the controls are unfortunately just a bit too much of a stretch to use comfortably and with confidence. The Breakout is my 1st choice but for this factor. Hoping to hear back. Thanks.
I believe it’s possible but I think it requires you to change out the outer primary cover for one with a hole in it. This is just a guess. I’d have to really look into it. It won’t show up as an option In the parts catalog but if you get with a dealer that is willing to figure it out then it can be done e.
Ride a 2007 Wideglide FXDWG but also have metric cruisers. When talking about Japanese muscle cruisers that have chopper look you forgot to mention the Yamaha Stryker. Chopper styling, wide rear tyre and a shitload of torque.
My favorite model on the line-up for an untouched bike. All others I‘d work on changing more or less details. LOL, not all designs have been originated in the USA. Clearly the Tech-Chassis Performance Chopper Wide Wheel craze was already there in the 90s in Germany, while the USA did not embrace that style at all.
I have an 08 softail custom, that I bought brand new, a 2008 big dog mastiff, a 2022 Road glide special, and a 2003 street glide, yesterday I took my 22 year old son, my youngest kid, to the Harley dealer. first time he has looked at a motorcycle. he sat on a low rider, sat on a road king would not sit on a lowrider st, but he sat on and loved this bike. in fact it was a green bike? when I asked why he liked it over all the others " It looks like a harley" no wind shield or stuff like that and it felt the best to him. its a real pretty bike. and I think the younger generation are looking for bikes that look like harleys, not like sport bikes. harley should think about that
Hey Matt! Great video as always. I’m curious with the 2023 and 2024 Breakouts can the small speedometer and info center be changed out with a normal round analog one with a set of mini-apes? I’m assuming yes but I thought I’d ask. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
I do love the look of the Breakout. With that said the Yamaha Raider has a very similar look also with a 240 rear tire, 1900cc engine and can be had for around 8k 🤷
I really like the Breakout. I've been riding a V-rod for many years and love it. This is the only model that I might consider replacing the V-rod with. But, I wonder....how is the turn-in with that big rear tire? I rode a Victory Hammer once with a 230 rear tire and you had to really fight it in the turns...countersteer aggressively to get it to corner. My V-rod is a 2003, and I like the older ones (I bought it with 2500 miles on it) better than the later ones because (1) they turn in better with the 180 rear tire and (2) the handlebars aren't straight and you are not in the clamshell position. I put an HD touring main saddle on it and it's super super comfortable. The step in the seat is so high that it's almost like a back rest. My other concern with the Breakout is that ram-air thing looks like it would hit you in the leg. Local dealer told me you can replace that. I'm thinking "with what?" Just a normal round closer to flush air filter? I like the looks of these a lot, but not sure I want to spend $22K on one since I like my older one so much and have 15,000 on it now (still not much). On edit, I forgot to say I like the five gallon fuel tank on the new one. That's the biggest beef I have against my V-rod....3.7 gallon tank. And with the mods I've done to it, it only gets 31mpg. Empty light comes on every 80 miles. I wish it held a little more fuel. Anyway, convince me to spend my hard-earned money on one of these...they are pretty! :)
great video, thanks for the work. will there be a black finish for the 2024 Breakout? The homepage shows an optional tab for the finish... I think that's very good.
I own a 14 Wide Glide with stage 5 110 kit, Ohlins front and rear. I thought the Breakout was my pick of the current models. But the rear tyre is problematic for canyon carving. I have gone in to by a Softail three times and rode out on a Wide Glide so ... lol, I'm probably biased.
I just want to say this is my opinion and don't expect anyone else to agree.i love all the chrome But think the rear guard doesn't quite look right too bulky short or something.. and think it would look better with custom mini apes.😊
I was shopping for a used deluxe, then I bought a new fat boy. Might have bought a new deluxe if they were still making them in 21 when I bought the fat boy.
Ya - Japanese four trying to build cruisers is always a let down. As one drives by - What is that? Oh, it’s just a Honda/Yamaha…. That’s the reaction of almost everyone in real life.
I think an 8 inch riser for the bars would be more comfortable ... And definitely change that license plate mount it looks ridiculous hanging out into nowhere...other than that what a great looking bike
love the bike. I tried to sit on one, but I'd have to modify it way too much to be comfortable at all (which hurts the looks)... I'm too small for so many cool bikes. (considering doing it anyway though 🙂 )
I was pleasantly surprised at how much better the 2023-2024 Breakout is compared to the previous model. My son had a 2015. There's a huge fan base around the v-rod internationally ... if HD brought it back (I'm guessing with the rev-max motor) I am positive it would sell.

Just traded my 2018 BO for a brand new Road King Special. Had affection for the BO but I’ll never look back after the RK…
The Yamaha Raider 100HP 125 torque was the competitor of the Breakout, but Yamaha had the Raider out way before since 2009
It's great looking bike! I've ridden one with small tank, it was great on highway. But that bigger gas tank would be way more useful on Street Bob and Standard, just a thought..

The rocker and old Harley drag bikes are the inspiration for the breakout.
Rode the Breakout at the 120th celebration and found it a lot of fun for hopp'n around town, but would not build it for crushing miles. Cool bike.
My favourite Harley, I will keep dreaming!
Breakouts are actually good bikes IMHO. They don’t suit my taste personally but those are well designed bikes. I will say everyone I knows that owns one has the same gripe and one you mentioned is it’s not great for long haul riding. Great “Bar Hopper”
Meri height 4'8 h kya main ye chala sakti hu
Good looking bike. Funny how different models are popular in different areas of the country. Here in the mid atlantic area I rarely see any breakouts in the dealer or at events but heritages are relatively popular and I think you've said they don't sell near as much out there.
Yea, it is interesting. I think they are popular in Florida.
Im 5´11´´ thank you for talking about a good height to ride this bike I really appreciate it.
Damn I want one! The white pearl is sick!!!!! I have loved the breakout ever since it first launched. I love the fat tire chopper-style cruisers like the Break Out and Vrod Muscle. This would be the style of Harly I would buy 2nd being the baggers.
Looks awesome, it's just a little too much chrome for my taste. I wish they had a blacked out version of the breakout.
F’n AWESOME bike 😍👍🏻
That bike is for someone that appreciates it like me sold sold sold
Thank you Matt!
Matt, hope you don't mind one more question. In terms of color choices on the Breakout, will all of these colors have pretty much the same resale value on the bike down the road? I guess I am trying to ask, in your opinion will one of these colors have a better resale down the road than the others? Thank you.
My favourite motorcycle from the 2024 line up. I own a 2012 dyna wide glide. So I favour a forward controls .
Yea, you’re totally right
I should have mentioned that.
I have an 08 softail custom, that I bought brand new, a 2008 big dog mastiff, a 2022 Road glide special, and a 2003 street glide, yesterday I took my 22 year old son, my youngest kid, to the Harley dealer. first time he has looked at a motorcycle. he sat on a low rider, sat on a road king would not sit on a lowrider st, but he sat on and loved this bike. in fact it was a green bike? when I asked why he liked it over all the others " It looks like a harley" no wind shield or stuff like that and it felt the best to him.
its a real pretty bike. and I think the younger generation are looking for bikes that look like harleys, not like sport bikes. harley should think about that
Great review.
Thank you sir. 🤙🏼
Hey Matt! Great video as always. I’m curious with the 2023 and 2024 Breakouts can the small speedometer and info center be changed out with a normal round analog one with a set of mini-apes? I’m assuming yes but I thought I’d ask. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Yes, that can be done. You gotta buy the gauge, wire it and mount it. It’s not a simple DIY thing. I believe it requires a flash as well.
Suzuki M109R is another fat tire muscle bike. Great video as always Matt!
Good call. Maybe I should have included that. Thanks for the comment
Not something I would replace my 2009 Softail Custom with. Good looking bike though.
Yamaha Raider is where it's at as a chopper build
Yeah I don't want bags or a windshield on this. this is not a touring bike it is a bad ass bike.
I do love the look of the Breakout. With that said the Yamaha Raider has a very similar look also with a 240 rear tire, 1900cc engine and can be had for around 8k 🤷
Thanks for the review Matt, I’m picking mine up in two weeks!!
This bike has really been growing on me. Still think it has a little too much chrome for my taste, but it's a beautiful bike.
Add 2inch riser extensions and it's unbelievable how much more comfortable the bike is ....
Did the cables have to get replaced with the 2 inch? I was thinking about 1 - 1 1/2 inch risers for it.
Also digging the chrome fender struts vs polished aluminum. Chrome is so much easier to keep looking sharp.
I love micky's review. He doesn't sound like someone who drank harleys Kool-Aid.
This white onyx pearl should have been offered on the low rider s/st as well. Breakout is perfect except for lacking the upside down forks
Nice bike love the white paint.
Great video Matt!.
One of the coolest and sexist motorcycles they make. Really looks awesome with high rise handle bars.
Real hot rod looking motorcycle Thank you for the video take care
What a slick looking bike. I might have to go pick one up
Less isn’t always better…. Personally ill stick with the HD.
Agreed!!
Thanks for the review. I really liked Mickey's reference/comparison to the Pepsi Challenge.
Is the deluxe ever going to come back? That was my dream bike
I was shopping for a used deluxe, then I bought a new fat boy. Might have bought a new deluxe if they were still making them in 21 when I bought the fat boy.
Get a twin cam. More reliable. Especially the high output 103.
🤘⚡️🤘✨✨✨
Mickey is awesome. More videos with him please Matt :)
For digital gauges I like this setup, however I would prefer a small analog speedo and tach 👍
Its a nice bike. Looked at one in my dealership. Very comfortable & would be nimble.
love the bike. I tried to sit on one, but I'd have to modify it way too much to be comfortable at all (which hurts the looks)... I'm too small for so many cool bikes. (considering doing it anyway though 🙂 )
Please do a video of this same amazing quality and many shots of Mickey riding the new Fat Boy.
Your wish is my command
Matt(Good Name).....please put a bug in HD to offer the classic gauge package for it.
Digital gauges just don't go with a chopper image.
JMHO Matt
I’ve ridden one of these 117 Breakouts, that thing ripped, but handles like a dump truck.
Great video mate....Have HD discontinued the Baha orange color ?
I rode the Honda once... it's beautifully balanced- try it sometime. However, it let me know I'll never buy a stretched out front end.
Harley..in the Califórnia...wow 😁😎👍....so beautiful motorcycle..my friend 🇧🇷... here in Brazil 🇧🇷..... show man 🇺🇸🤘😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
