It’s actually not so weird. If the adults were their own parents, then it would be weird, cuz teens don’t speak so openly with their own parents. Also, it’s just a show, so they know.

I think they were just trying to say that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a biological mom or dad to be a parent. The most important part is just that Someone who cares is there to play that role (whether blood related or not).

She meant it as the teen didn't have a mom and her having only a mom she didnt have a father. Meaning: she gets that you dont need a mother AND a father. That either one (no matter sex) alone are enough to raise a child if fulfill their needs. They are not missing out on any experience as that 1 single parent (male or female) or 2 of same sex parents are enough and can teach you what you need to learn to growing up. You dont need a father to teach you to be a man or a mother to teach you to be a woman. It can be taugh by either one as long as they are aware or can help you get thru things, have patience, be loving, etc.

ABSOLUTELY. that's so well said and accurate to someone whose parents tried to communicate with them later on after years and years of emotional neglect. you NEED that base and it's impossible to start once you've given your child reasons not to confide in you when they were younger

-Wave- right, but statistically i hope you are aware that people who exist without parents or with physically neglectful and/or emotionally unavailable parents are more likely to have a lower quality of life and a higher chance of mental illness and addiction. so, yes, while it isn't "biologically necessary" to have parents, it is obviously extremely beneficial and generally improves predictive life span. if you don't believe it, look up the harlow's monkey experiments (though be aware that it is a harsh experiment, no matter how accurate). or look up reactive attachment disorder, which is quite common in foster children and children who grew up in abusive or impoverished households without a parental presence in their life.
