Paint won't last near that long. That's one of the big problems with expensive "lifetime" roofs. You could spend 1/3 of the money, and something that could be replaced in 20-30 years, and it would look new again. But really it's nothing the current owner would worry about.
@@smhammer92 well the paint is there to prevent rust mostly, and if the owner keeps on top of repainting it (which I'm sure not a lot of contractors would be super eager to take, even dedicated exterior paint guys) it could indeed last 100 years.
30+ year GC who was never a fan of metal because is so often hacked. We did metal treating it like your working on the hood of a corvette. So unbelievably refreshing to see someon putting metal on with care, no scratches, etc.. Our local lumberyard always teased us for ordering butyl tape with our roof's. NO ONE,.. in this area, and I mean NO ONE, uses butyl anywhere, ever. Trim is just smacked and screwed, no closures, no closing your profiles... Really quality work here man.. What you need to do on those ridge/roof intersections is keep some roll lead in your truck and tap-out a nice thin piece of lead flashing at the valley peak for your counterflashing. Super slick and dead tight.
@@RRBuildings No problem. Lead flashing is hard to find here but a couple yards still stock it. Just a little 3"x3" piece at that valley peak and you can ditch the tube caulk. Super handy and you will find a million other places to use it. A 30"x30" sheet will last you dozens of jobs.
I can’t believe people think that huge building is moving! It’s the lift you’re standing on & the camera! Oh my goodness! You two work so well together. “Don’t worry son...”! Great job. We enjoy watching you two build.
Ive been roofing for 4 years now had my own company for two and I love your videos because you dont cut corners. I am trying to get into more metal roofing - been only asphalt and seeing yall do it doesnt make it look easy but ,males it look doable. Keep it up guys.
“Hey I don’t pay Greg to think...” I laughed for 30 seconds at that. You see Kyle stop talking for a second, blink, and then talk again. These are the best moments. Work hard guys!
Milwaukee rivet gun is the best. Bought mine 2 years ago when we had a insulated panel building with 20,000 rivets. I dropped it once 20 feet on to frozen ground and all that broke was a battery retention tab. Thanks for giving tips on running things straight.
Your attention to detail is second to none; I'd bet that none of our building ever leak. Love Greg's non sequitur comments - makes for hilarious banter on the job site. You guys are the best; I hope Zack is doing well - I can't imagine why he'd ever leave this crew.
You guys always do great work. The details make the job and you all killed it. Top notch install this is a real lifetime roof system with all of your details done correctly. You can tell when someone takes pride in what they do it shows in a job well done. Another great Video. Thanks for sharing
long time viewer first-time poster... Love your build series and have watched every single one! My only gripe while I know it's your business, your reputation and ultimately your finances that rest upon your build quality, to comment that "I don't pay Greg to think, but when he does its a great idea" (and I know your banter level is high). I would have thought for long term planning you would want Greg to think and be part of the planning process so you could train him to eventually start running his own crew so you could expand your business, and reap the rewards of a well trained, detailed oriented and loyal employee.
@@RRBuildings I've scaled back from larger crews. Used to be 3-4 all of the time. You get more done, but don't make as much money. Hardest part of having your size, is if Greg would leave for any reason (injury, girlfriend, sickness, whatever) You are really going to have a hard time replacing him. That was the nice security of having a lead guy, and a number two, that was learning, and could step in when life calls the other one away.
Hey Kyle, just watched an Essential Craftsman video from Scott Wadsworth from a year ago (Shop Evolution and Expansion part 3) where he gives you and your channel a huge shout out and highly praises the work you did on the Diresta build....... I've been watching both channels independently these past few months in lockdown and really enjoyed seeing the recognition and respect being shared your way........ Love the work you're doing and the way you share, teach, explain everything - keep up the good work, all the way from Ireland........
Crazy attention to detail. Absoltely love your dedication to doing the best job you possibly can. . As crazy as it sounds, watching your videos has made me a better stockbroker.

Been watching for a while. I really enjoy the craftsmanship that you guys do. I’m originally from Chicago and I have family that live in Byron an it’s like a little piece of home every time I watch you guys.
Aussie building in metric tip; we only speak in millimetres and metres. Centimetres makes you sounds like a school teacher or a DIY Dad. Love this build mate, actually wanting to build my own pole frame garage down under and will most likely copy your design, so good 🙌
Sir, I highly respect your skills. Highly trained professionals. I wish you could have done my garage rather then the yahoo's that did mine. I am very envious of your clients. They are lucky. Thanks for your videos.
Amazing detail Kyle. No one on the entire internet has a good video about installing a bathroom exhaust vent in a metal roof. NO ONE! It's super frustrating...hint hint....
Truly enjoy your channel. Just started to follow a month or 2 ago. I really like how simple you make things look. Math never lies. Keep them coming. Tony.
Good job Kyle! There's many ways to skin a cat and you chose the manufacturer recommended one. On the west coast we put grommit screws theough the ribs on our snap lock panels. I want to start using rivvots now on some details
Well boys a great job as usual, always good to view. If you are going to use metric system remember that metal trades & construction industry use metres & millimetres. Centremetres are for dress makers & curtin hangers. Always enjoy your work.
24:05 It always seems like water finds a way. That's pretty much what people always commented on during a window installation video a while back. We use the black rubber patch that comes with the Rubber All roofing system, and cover that top valley point with that, and then put the ridge cap over. Covers that hole point you were talking about, and doesn't rely on caulk.
The quality of the work you guys do is amazing!!! It is truly a pleasure to watch master craftsmen do these projects , I pray that God Blesses and protects you..
Kyle, After seeing Matt risinger’s recent video on the poor workmanship and materials being used on a particular housing development, I appreciate the effort you and Greg put into ensuring your buildings not only look good but also perform well for your clients. Good reputations are hard to build and easy to lose. Well done guys. 👍🏼
Lol you left that tip out on your 10 tips for a speed sq. Using that to make a clean bend on the ridge for the roof to wall area at the chimney. That is perfect 👌
Hey Kyle, I WISH that you built as far away as Florida cause I really like the professionalism that you put into your buildings. Keep up the good work.

I’m disappointed Greg was not doing some goofy dance in the background. Lol. I love watching these videos. Great builds and lots of useful content. Thanks for sharing.
I'm putting a ridge cap on now with a standing seam system and it's the slotted z-closures that have foam in them. They recommend putting caulk at the end of each where it meats the seam as well as riveting to the z bar. I think the system you are using looks easier and would provide more ventilation.
It is so nice to see when your videos come on so that I can see some down to earth guys doing not so down to earth stuff if you get my meaning, being that you are 30 feet in the air.
Kyle I notice that you can occasionally be a little over critical of parts of your work,I can tell you that I absolutely have no doubt whatsoever that no water be it direct or wind driven is ever going to get through any part of your roof. Yeah there was a tiny little slit that you had to cut in to that piece of metal but even if anything were to get through it the sheet underneath will catch it and allow it to drain in to and down your valley. From an outside, uk perspective where I'm baffled by a Lot of American contractors reliance on caulk sealing to stop water from getting in to the fabric of the building it is honestly refreshing to see your work where you are effectively using your materials to seal the structure and your only using the sealant for a belt and braces approach. Your work on this roof is flawless mate. You could have a very successful career designing roofing systems though I know that you would much prefer to be doing the work you do now. I couldn't imagine doing anything other than the building and carpentry work that I do on a daily basis as I'm sure neither could you. It would be a delight to work on a building site alongside you and Greg!

A little more work but I think the end product is worth it.

Am I going to watch every video on this channel? Yes
yep!

A well-timed video cut at 20:00. Just enough so that we can see you drop that roll through the roof Kyle ;) Great job as always!
Lol, I didn't catch that.

Starting the cap in the middle to prevent oil canning is a good idea. I find using a 2 by4 to evenly apply pressure to the whole piece works 👍
Using a brake to modify the bend to the correct pitch works with oil canning as well.
