  • Skyline metal roofing has long been a choice of roofers, contractors and “Do-it-Yourselfers” and is the perfect choice for new residential construction or remodels as well as commercial projects.
CORRECTION: at 3:09 mark we say “for increased weathertightness install neoprene closures below the panel turn up”. This is Incorrect! - No closures with vented ridge!

For me, the ideas in th-cam.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

😂 the effort put into this video lends it credibility it really doesn’t deserve. The ends of the panels get hemmed and hooked to the correct drip edge for the panels, drip edge also isn’t correct. Come on guys, a homeowner might make me do something like this to their home after watching something like this.

Grace Ice and Water is your best friend here and precision sealant application on the uphill sides of the roof penetrations where you slip the flashing under the roofing. I have this system in Ketchikan, Alaska and it's a great install. Get the right contractor.

The order of operation is a little off in this video. At 3:30 they jump into the vented ridge cap...but at 4:50 it demonstrates the gable end flashing, which must be done BEFORE the ridge cap. The zee closure goes on before the gable flashing because the gable end is cut to accommodate the zee closure at 5:08. But the ridge itself is positioned OVER the gable flashing.

I'm not judging, but you're putting holes through your metal to attach it to the roof. Not only that, but the panels snap together like a model kit. It looks good in a computer program or on new construction, but reality is alittle different, especially with a rip/replace job. I recommend 24g 1" drip edge, 21" wide double lock standing seam with wrapped corners, rake edge and eaves. It comes in a variety of colors and metal, from galvalume to copper, zinc to steel. In the end, everything wraps itself with nothing exposed. It even eliminates the need for reverse flashing for walls, skylights, chimneys, etc.

Very nice video. I don't like your chimney flashing. Old school method is to cut into the mortar between the chimney bricks to achieve a diagonal zig-zag mortar notch. Then you fold the flashing into the cut channel and seal. Sometimes they just cut a diagonal straight line across the bricks, which is better than what you show in your video, but this can cause a stress concentration that could cause brick cracking. In your method, as the metal along the chimney vertical flashing seasonally expands and contracts, the caulk with work loose from the chimney brick and water will leak in. I am also nervous about all of edge screws you apply through the metal roof. A more thorough design hides 100% of all screws so that there are zero screws exposed to the rain, even if rubber washers are installed under each screw, the rubber will decompose.

I just got a quote for skyline roofing panels from ASC building products....through one of their distributors in Arizona.
830 Sq ft roof with no valleys or chimneys or fancy dormers is $2900 for the materials and shipping to house. So, $3.50/sq ft is probably minimum and $4/sq ft more likely. That only buys materials including screws and trim and enclosures, etc. and shipping.
For comparison: This Skyline panel is HIDDEN fastener roofing approach. An EXPOSED fastener approach for my roof would cost $1400 in materials, so half as much. I guess forming the male/female flanges costs twice as much, but you get to hide the fasteners from the weather.

Why put screws exposed in standing seam roof? How is ridge going to breath with perforations on top of flat bend, attic air can’t get to it. Might as well put a cheap screw down roof it would be as cost effective. I don’t have one fastener exposed in my standing seam installations

You never should put so many holes for water to enter a roof as I see with this product? then of course every screw is a potential leak point. Even with a rubber washer, the washer would dry out at some point? all the tape use has to be another source of leaks. Over all I would never use a roof system like this. It just seems so counter productive to apply and the holes, screws and tape to seal a roof to me?

Either do an exposed fastener system or a concealed fastener system. I don't see the point in hiding screws in the nail strip if you're putting exposed screws in the eves (the part of the roof that receives the most water). Same goes for flashing and ridge. I just don't understand why you wouldn't hook into your z and hide your fasteners. As others said chimney should be cut into and counter flashed. This is honestly just a messy job.

FAR to much use of exposed fasteners along the eaves and valleys for a roofing product that is designed as an overall hidden fastener product. Use a metal roofing drip edge and valley with Z hem, then fold a hem in the end of the roofing panels. This eliminates the exposed fasteners in these areas of high water shed concentration. This type of installation locks the panels into place and will keep wind and wind blown rain from getting underneath the roofing panels at the eaves and valleys.

In a high wind situation, your whole roof will unpeel and blow away. You cannot leave a weak spot for the wind to get into. Terrible idea. Plus it will not help cool the attic, other methods are necessary.
