Red Earth is a lot of fun. A shame it took Capcom years to bring it to the home console. I picture a dreamcast port would of allowed you to play as the enemies

Glad to see some love for Red Earth! I had good times saving each of my passwords to train up my Leo.
I could see a new one of these having some crazy system where you make your fighter on the console then take it with you on some app where you can train the character on the go.
But that might be too quirky of an idea to sell well...

Red Earth is a great and unique quirky Capcom fighter. I remember the first time I saw the game in a magazine I was blown away by the detail that the CPS3 board can produce over the CPS 2 board and the Neo Geo MVS. With that said, I know for a fact that the Sega Saturn which was pretty popular in Japan, could have done an excellent job of bringing Warzard (Red Earth) home if The 4MB RAM cart was mandated and used.
Yes, The game is somewhat obscure and not known to hardcore arcade and Capcom fans, but the Saturn was home to the best 2D fighters, brawlers, and arcade games. I can't think of any reason why Capcom did not port this game to the Sega Saturn at least back in 1997 when the Sega Saturn had the absolute best ports of SNK and Capcom arcade games, like the King of fighters and all of the Street Fighter and Marvel fighting games. I guess we should all be happy that it's finally home. In my opinion I believe the only reason it never had a home part is because the game didn't really do well in the arcades to begin with, and had nothing to do with the lack of power of the PlayStation, and definitely not the Saturn or Dreamcast. Capcom probably figured that if the game is obscure in the arcades it will be more obscure in the home market and they couldn't make sense of spending the money to port it.

i became aware of Red Earth from MUGEN, a Freeware Fighting Game engine made back at the turn of the 21st century. games have had so much spotlight brought on them because of this engine, as well as spawned some totally unique characters. even today MUGEN still has a fanbase and new characters are being made all the time, i cant say enough positive things about it, i am blessed that i discovered it almost two decades back.

So glad to see Warzards getting so much needed love! I really wish capcom could have made more titles like this but unfortunately it just was never meant to be however I do love how much art went into this sucker and how this technology would be later used in capcom's Dungeons and Dragons titles as well as other Arcade Hits!

I remember reading about it back in the day. Our arcade was run by a family that had a bunch of rare cabinets in their main office in meterie, la, and want to say they had 1 cabinet of red earth but it was so long ago i might be mistaken. Their main office was New Orleans novelty, and they ran nearly every arcade in the New Orleans area. If the game did good in the main office, one of the testing locations was on canal street and the other was on veteran's Blvd, I think. But if it was there, it wasn't there for long. When they shut down, they destroyed most of their cabinets

A bunch of people and myself actually were the ones who contacted the Capcom for several years to get it released for consoles. It was a petition. So, a few people can actually make a difference. Otherwise they wouldn't have released it for console if fans said nothing. There's several more games on the petition also.

i miss the days when japan dominated the video game market, and we had to wait a whole extra year for the best games to come out. demon's souls really brought me back to that, when my friend sent us the korean version nearly a year before the american one dropped just a week after i had seen the previews for the game on youtube and i was bummed that i still had to wait a whole year. god bless my homie for sending that game.

To be fair, prior to the Dreamcast, Capcom wasn't really using the Playstation as a gauge for releasing 2D fighters that required more memory and 2D capability. They were using the Sega Saturn as their support for 2D fighters, and the VS series was really featured on that console. But even that console wasn't ready for CPS3.

They new they could not bring it to home consoles, because of the lack of quality, plus the fact that most consoles like Dreamcast, Saturn, Playstation was dying out. Arcades were already going bust because they couldn't keep up with having video games 3 to 6 months later releasing on home consoles. So most arcades we're stretching out the video games they had, at this time just to make some money. I know my dad was running an arcade back then with video games downstairs for kids with all the gambling machines upstairs. It was amazing for years until the arcade video game bust. I would love too see a video of the downfall of the Arcade #tophatgamingman
