Art is a wonderful platform, that gives me rest from all else, it truly has healing principles, watching your videos adds realism, and a sense of Beauty, Thank You!
Thank you so much. After watching another one of your videos I went and bought a a black pan pastel and I love it. Thank you again. I love your videos.
Maybe for the next one you could use conte crayon. It a close relative to charcoal and might fit in well with your content. Looking forward to more great videos. Bry
Very inspiring Josh! My suggestion is that I’d like you to try brushing randomly and very dark with a stick of charcoal then just use the kneaded eraser to make all the highlights come back ! If you get what I mean.
I really enjoyed this. The confidence in your technique is very inspiring sir. Not sure who or why someone would disliked the video 🤔 people are weird. Anyways, keep it up dude!
the sound of the pan pastel on the paper is wonderful... but wow... i saw you on instagram and am so happy you have youtube too... beautiful work. i was wondering if it stayed on the drawing paper... ty
is there any one place in particular that you get most of your references? absolutely love it by the way, i honestly normally dont enjoy the work of other artists much but i cant help but watch and study every one of your videos
Good stuff! Great stuff, in fact! You've convinced me to try out the soft stuff, pan pastel, haha. Now, I'd just have to find it in Pakistan. I'm not sure if they sell it over here, but we'd see. Thank you for another great, informative video!
Hey Josh, very inspired by your drawing technique, I am in love with charcoal as well. Very forgiving. DO you have a Patreon? Tried searching for you on there. You should definitely get one if you haven't already and set up you own set of courses for us. I see you everywhere, Instagram, Reddit, TH-cam Certainly would have no problem getting the Patrons. Stay safe man keep at it!
For someone with no art background that wants to try this, which of your videos or other creator videos would you suggest to start with to build fundamentals?
honestly, this guy is a good start. his looser approach to art will be so much easier to follow than the anatomy most other channels teach. plus it definitely way more fun. you've came across a diamond so early on in your journey, lucky you.
@@gander4872 im not sure if you will find this relevant, but check out pastel paintings. its like charcoal but in colour. bethany feilds is a great one here on youtube.
@@thisisthewronghat2706 Thank you that's really thoughtful. I'm not ready to explore colour yet but I've subbed to her channel for when that time comes. Very exciting to see how pastels are used.
not sure about him but i spray milk on my charcoal paintings. its cheap, and it doesn't darken the painting like other fixatives do. it does change pastel paintings though
I like the abstract quality of leaving the study as you left it. ...But, It would be interesting to see you work on it with a charcoal pencil, using a stump to blend, compressed charcoal for accents, and pulling out highlights with a needed eraser and a mechanical eraser...You have a very interpretive artistic approach which makes just what you did look "painterly".
Hi .. so .. I have a suggestion : If you agree to experiement your techniques on panes of acrylic glass or any transparent surface and perform different layers to give the artwork a 3d aspect just like an artist name xia xiaowan . It may be challenging but that would be so cool ' cause in my opinion ,your drawings has already a side of realism even though the features of the portraits are not detailed .
This is inspiring. It inspires me to loosen up my drawing and not focus on minute details until later stages.

Pan pastel makes other lifting tools as well, like sponges that could be used to remove some pastel.
Wonderful. You are a master of this medium.

First
What tool is this and where can I buy it
You CAN use an eraser. PanPastel was designed to be erased if needed.
Hi Josh! Have you tried your chromatic pastels? Can you upload a sample of it on your tiktok?
Looks like Malcolm X
Do you use fixative after it ? If yes which one ?
not sure about him but i spray milk on my charcoal paintings. its cheap, and it doesn't darken the painting like other fixatives do. it does change pastel paintings though
Can you draw like someone specifically?
Blending stump
Who is Manalli if you are Josh ?????

I can’t draw this it’s to fast
How does one manage to possess such talent like this? And please don't tell me to "practice", because that is complete rubbish.
Microphone all weird. Probably due to your mouth positioning. Mostly hear you in my right ear unless you move in the room. Kind of annoying.
