I am really enjoying this series, it's a bit reminiscent of your earlier videos.
I, personally, enjoy sitting here mesmerized watching the chips fly. In fact, I would enjoy a 'boring content' video, filming nearly every moment of the machine work.
Anyways, thanks for still making videos after all this time, it's always a welcome sight in my notifications.
    Happy new year!

I certainly hope your employer appreciates your skill and experience. Its not everyone that can get handed a piece of paper with a drawing on it and told, "go make that" and bringing the product to finish without a stuff up. Thanks Adam.Another excellent Vid.

Just fitted new taper bearings to my lathe , one set was made by koyo and was packaged with the inner race sitting inside the outer ring as usual but the other bearing was an skf it had a a plastic insert fitted between the outer ring and the inner race to protect the bearing surface from shock if it was dropped - first time i have ever seen it and thought it was a nice addition to a quality bearing .

    Hi Adam,
i am turning large diameter toolsteel and i also had some problems with the round carbide inserts (16mm diameter). It started to chatter very easy even the meachine is very solid. I then tried to flip the holder around (so the insert points down) and reverse the spindle and this works very well. I can plunge the tool directly into the work without chatter.
Mybe you could try this also since you mentioned often that these round inserts tend to chatter easily.
    best wishes
    Stephan

Many ways to get to the same destination🙄
I have almost always roughed out in the chuck. Finished between centers on rotating equipment shafts.
Max size if I remember correctly was 10 inch diameter, 4140 HT either 12 or 14 feet in length.
We made our drive dogs in house and used aluminum between the drive screw and the work.
In several shops it was mandatory to finish between centers. That was of course, manual lathes.

Hey abom, very nice work again. About the chatter issues at 28.00 or so; is it common to get chatter with such a meaty work when you are already usin a tailstock centre? Also how come there was no chatter with the same operation other end of the shaft? Didn’t affect the outcome though.👌

26:08 Why not turn an aluminium collar to go between your part and the steady rest? You put notches on the ID of this collar on opposite sides (holes drilled and then halfway machined out, like) so when you spin it off after it comes apart so you don't have to press it off.
