I figured it would be faster, I never ran a gear box on the old racing kart….this was in 1999 however, built Briggs 5hp (methanol) with racing clutch and fairly decent size sprocket (I don’t remember specifics since I was 13) and it would run around 57 on the dirt circle in the straights. These stock engine karts look like so much fun though, brings back so many memories. Love the builds, your content has motivated me to get my daughter into racing karts.
I finally got everything together with my lifan 125cc with 4 gears. 17teeth up front and 25 rear, I was able to top out at 46mph. that 4th gear really helps
I know this may not make sense but you actually need to put a larger sprocket on the rear axle. Yes a smaller sprocket would make a kart or bike go faster in theory but only it has enough torque to pull a smaller gear. You engine only sounded like it was to about 4500RPM's or less. Essentially it wasn't going to redline RPM's because you didn't have enough torque to pull a rear smaller gear. Make your gear ratio about 3:1 and play around with gearing a bit. Ultimately you want to be able to reach redline and near max RPM's so that you utilize all the HP and Torque. I gurantee you will get 5 MPH or faster with a larger rear sprocket, revving the engines full RPMs. You could also run twin engines on the CVT(torque converter), single gear, go kart. I just made another motor mount on my kart and hooked it up to the drive shaft. I hit about 75MPH, with two highly modified predator 212cc engines.
Yes, this man speaks the truth. I'll give an example. A small engine can only pull so much weight. If you put a very large sprocket on the back, the engine should be able to reach it's maximum potential. Too large and will accelerate more quickly, but will not go very fast. Too small and it will take forever to reach top speed, if it has the power to get there. This seems to be the situation you are in right now. There should be a horsepower rating for your engine when new. Since you are starting out with a used engine, a bigger rear sprocket is going to be a necessity. Ask your local go cart place to suggest the proper sprocket for your application. The ratio can be found by counting the teeth on each sprocket, and dividing the numbers. The wheel size also makes a difference. It's easy to learn, and makes all the difference in the world. A jack shaft can also change the ratio, but they cost money, and it robs power. The quickest, easiest, and least expensive solution, is going to be the larger rear sprocket.
Christopher haha my stock moped lifan 125cc is almost fast as your modified 212cc kart, now it hit 71mph. When my cyl.head get modified it can do more than 75mph...tuning is an art
Because it's a pit bike motor first thing is swap the stock CDI for a performance one which will change the ignition timing and increases and or removes the max redline. I did the swap on my on pit bike and I got 6mph higher top speed without changing gearing.
have a 212cc predator and have removed governor we have redlined the thing daily for 6 years and never had an issue havent even serviced it since we brought it in 2011 everyday it does around 2 hours drift trike hirage and is on limiter the whole time. Smokes blue smoke now as expected with the thrashing its had and no servicing and still loves to be valve bounced
Sameul Jones It's nice to know that these engines can take a beating. Besides governor removal have you done anything else to your engine to improve performance? Have you messed with your carb or installed any other components on your engine?
Yes it was one of those eBay 125cc engines with 3 speeds forward and one reverse. If you can find a similar motor with 4 gears forward than it should be a little faster. Good luck.
This is gold! I'm building a dirt kart for my lad with what looks like the same Lifan engine. I was wondering about sprocket ratios and this is a big help. All else being equal, if I run 14/44 that should drop the top speed to about 50 km/hr and give good acceleration. Thanks!
I'd say try jetting the carb for more fuel and try raising the tire pressure to lower rolling resistance. This is just something to try before tearing the engine down for serious mods.
Rodrigo Rodriquez Back in the day when that area was being developed there were no cops or construction workers so we used to go there on the weekends. If you google map it you’ll find it near interstate 5 and the cross streets are Arena blvd and E. Commerce way in Natomas. change front sprocket to a smaller one. maybe a big bore kit would work too or even nitrous. just a general upgrade of all parts e.g. exhaust, intake and carby to a proper branded version not a cheaper version aways helps
No problem...also if you buy a proper branded carb you might be able to get bigger jets for it then if you get a better intake for increased air into the motor you should be all set
Well on go karts is hard to get 125cc true top speed, because of the small wheels. 36mph is decent...my daily moped 125cc 4 gears, small carb, 17" wheels, max 7500rpm, 15-36 pulley it can do 71mph and haha it can do more when the cyl.head is ported 100%, big carb, body weight plays a role too...btw your go kart is nice
Impressive, but I bet it takes a long time to get there. Porting the head isn't going to give you big HP increase, probably half a hp on the top end. The heads on those little 125 motors actually breathe pretty well stock, I would just clean up the ports. However if you did port it I would definitely suggest boring it out and going for a more race-oriented cam. Nothing too radical, just more lift a longer duration. And definitely go for a bigger carb, but too big and you wont be gaining anything.
I just installed a 100cc or close to it dirtbike engine on my go kart , semi auto 4 speed , I have a 12-14 tooth gearbox sprocket and on my axle is a 40 some tooth sprocket , gear ratio comes out to about roughly 3.5-2.5 , would this be fast?
also i think you should weld some tubing to the gear shifter at an angle to make it easier to shift. if you did make it rise up about 3 or 4 inches from where the shifter is now
What kind of 125 cc three speed with reverse? Also your engine sounds bogged down. There are several improvements that can be made with little or no money. All engines are air pumps, so the more unrestricted air flow it has, the better it will run. First thing most people do is replace the air cleaner with a racing air filter because of less restriction. Next would be to replace the muffler with a header. Both of those open it up a little and let it breathe. Next, disconnect the govenor so you can get more r.p.m.s. After that it begins to get a little more technical. You can remove 10 thousandths, or so off the head to get higher compression. 10 thousandths is just an example. Each engine is different. Then when you can tell it's running a lot better re-jet the carburetor to a larger size, or buy a bigger jet. Go to a colder spark plug, or whatever works by those already going faster by doing what you are trying to do. All these ideas are inexpensive, and can be done at home depending on your level of experience. Hey, we all have to start somewhere.
Luvstruck the motor has a pod filter and aftermarket exhaust. this motor has cdi ignition not mechanical so no gov to remove and despite what people know these motors cdis do not have a rpm limit in them. what he can do since the stock 19mm carb is maxed from the get is swap to a 27mm as u said more air plus more fuel. addition adding inner rotor kit will allow it rev higher. porting the intake and exhaust will help also 'gasket match'. further more these are lifan motors the make from 49cc to 140cc then switch to vertical for 150 to 250cc. cheap and easily found parts.
Is a 14/21 the best gear ratio for the best top speed , mine is a 4 speed so i want and even medium between top speed and torque but i dont mind buying the top speed rear sprocket to test , what would be best ?
balabay77 what do you mean I am not subscribed iv watched every video about the pit bikes and monster mini bike and the tear downs and all the fixes you have done to the ssr 125 automatic
Predator 670 is the biggest motor you could make fit but bigger gear on the rear axle means higher top speed I've raced those kinds of cars for years there lots of fun
i always thought that bigger rear sprocket will give you lots of torque but not the top speed. i had 37 tooth sprocket and it gave me 30mph but with new 21 tooth sprocket it maxed out at 36.
I had a shifter Kart back in the early 2000's, it was a Bug Chassis with a Watercooled Yamaha 125cc two-stroke engine - had three disk brakes tho, went well over 100mph and still did low 6's in the 8th mile local dragstrip on "Test & Tune" night - it would be worth your time to put a proper engine on that thing and lose than dud Chinese 3spd engine! Look around on Craigslist for cheap dirtbikes to get the engine from?
Hey David how are you? Yes i gave it all i got but it just doesn't want to go any faster. i'm guessing if it was a 4 gears engine than it would of went a little bit faster (45 maybe?) i don't think that this engine even have a governor. if you come across any videos where someone removed one than send me a link. Thanks bud.
balabay77 ill look that up for you because that engine should be able to go alot faster than that and mind subscribing to me ? lol but yeah it should go faster even if it does have 3 gears , my pocket bike when i was using it and it was running it did 35mph and its a 49cc engine and it has a single gear , but yeah im pretty sure it does because most engines have it , but at the moment i cant find a video where someone removed one
how about the acceleration cable ? maybe its a bit long ? you can also check that , i dont know that much about go karts or motocycles lol just trying to help
also jet the carb and play around with the fule to air ratio to get it to run even better, the mixture scre sometimes isnt installed completely correct and needs to be adjusted a slight bit
Austin Facemyer Actually I was planning on getting a 26mm Mikuni carb for it as well as another type of air filter. Someone suggested a straight pipe, maybe that will also help. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers
Yes sir its #40 sprocket. I already had #40 chain so i got the cheapest sprocket i could find. For some reason other sprockets we much more expensive than the one i got. I think there was a sprocket for #35 chain but i wanted 40 instead. Thanks for watching.
balabay77 Thanks for responding! But one more question, did you have to swap the front engine sprocket to a #40? if so, do you have a link to that part? I can't seem to find it. I am trying to use this setup on my drift trike to hopefully gain some more top end speed. Thanks
I used 15 tooth for #420 chain sprocket and it works out great. 420 and #40 got the same pitch but 420 sprocket is slightly thinner than 40. My local store that sells Chinese atvs offer 420 engine sprockets for $10 but i usually buy them on eBay for around $5 or so.
balabay77 Thanks for the help! I was running a 17tooth front and 40t rear getting to about 37mph with 4 gears. Hopefully with your setup I can go 40 or even higher. Thanks again.
Sure thing buddy. Let me know how it goes. My previous rear sprocket was 37 tooth and it was topping out at 30. Now with 21 tooth its top speed is 36. So smaller rear sprocket does make it go faster.
I don't know if anyone answered this yet, how many tooth sprocket on engine and axle? If at max size for sprockets the only option to make it faster is a jack shaft which looked like you would have enough room.
Roman Kostenko To be honest with you I'm not an expert when it comes to engines. From personal observation horizontal shaft engines are (for the most part) reliable and easy to use. They can be modified to produce more HP and they can hit top speeds well over any 125cc engines with the right setup. As far as 125cc engines go, try to get Lefan if you can because other engines are just a knock off copy and not as reliable I guess. Another hurdle with these engines can be figuring out how to set up your clutch if you get a manual engine. My engine is semi-auto so there's no clutch pedal needed. They both can do burnouts depending on persons weight. Obviously a kid is more likely to do a burnout than adult. All in all, they both have their pluses and minuses but I'm leaning towards horizontal shaft engines because they are cheap and disposable especially HarborFreight engines. Use them, abuse them, and swap them for the next engine.
I have a 6 speed 125cc shifter that can do about 110mph, you should maybe try a larger sprocket on the engine and a smaller sprocket on the rear axle, hopefully get better gear ratio and increase speed if I’m right
I have a built predator 212.. cammed, gov removed, pulse pump, rejetted, performance plug, header, etc.. it rips and I'm 215lbs. With that said, it'll never be fast enough lol
nick edmunds The frame is probably some old school vintage go kart. Not sure what the name brand it was but definitely not homemade. If you’re looking for a used go kart try Craigslist or some other local website or app that sells used stuff. OfferUp and letgo also a great place to look. Good luck
they sell alot of stuff for the 125cc. the cheapest thing that might add a little speed is a cdi. other than that you could buy a cam, or big bore kit. now that you made that engine mount you can use any of those style engines... the ones with clutches make good power. lifan 125cc big valve engine is less than $350. you can go as high as 200cc direct bolt in
My best bet would be a 2 stroke. Too bad that they cost too much even used engines are pricey. If i ever come across a cheap 2 stroke than maybe i will build another kart. Thanks for your advice and appreciate you watching.
Yea cdi does add a little pep and they are affordable. I feel the same way about a 2 stroke. I've built a gx200 clone with all the bells and whistles, and own a lifan 125cc big valve 4 speed. I'm happy with both. I'm going to try a 13hp techumseh after winter in a small buggy I have. I have done alot trial and error with this things and have yet to hit 60mph lol
i have a 110 quad and if you take that box off the wiring harness it kills the governor my cousin got it to 38 before it got to sketchy because we are two grown adults on a childs quad
It sounds like it came off of one of those little mini trucks that some companies use, when there is a lot of space to cover. They don't rev very high like a 125 cc bike does, plus it has a reverse gear.
tuning it will give u more low end (power), changing sprockets will give u top end (speed). It would be best to tune, change pistons, ect and change the sprockets until you find the ratio best for u.
You can find this engine here www.amazon.com/125ccSemi-automatic-Motorcycle-Bike-Engine-Motor/dp/B01HJMQRS0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1490067342&sr=8-9&keywords=125cc+engine
ever wonder what the three holes are on the cvt or the jackshaft pulley put the spring end in hole#1 or hole#2 and see what ya get as far as out of the hole power were talking wheelies oh yea
i honestly cant recall 1 or 3 its been so long since i ran the setup but try 1 or 3 and you will see that each hole is at the extreme end of the scale of the variable transmission aspect of that setup if its hole 1 the motor will wind up when you slam on the gas and then bam its on and either youll be smokin the tires or the front ends comeing off the ground or blow the belt if its not fresh
oh and no on the top speed thats a matter of the gearing determining top speed the spring placement just does the way your power is transmitted to the rear wheels
when you changed the sprocket, did you lose speed? look at the first cart and the sprockets sizing,i think you will find your answer. love the donuts at the end, keep the shiy side up my friend
Hello Roger, i've tried 37 tooth sprocket and it only got me to 30 miles per hour but with 21 tooth it goes up to 36 max. The other kart with red engine still goes 40 without any mods. I might try to get a small sprocket for that other kart as well just to see what happens. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Cheers
usually a small front sprocket and a large rear will make more speed. can you get a smaller sprocket for the engine? i wonder if that is all the power you will get out of the engine without changing jets in the carb etc....
Someone suggested removing the governor out of it, i will have to research if this engine comes with one. 3 gears is not enough, my next engine will have 4 gears.
Sounded like you could've revved that pitbike engine gokart alot more I can't tell for sure how fast yours was spinning over video but they can easily take 10k rpm
I've looked online and used KT100 engines go for around $650. By the time i buy new carb and clutch for it entire running engine will end up costing well over $1000. If you know any links to good quality 2 stroke engine feel free to share. Thanks for watching our video. cheers
balabay77 $1000 are you kidding? that's crazy!!!!! Hey how about a snowmobile engine =) the older snowmobiles were 440cc and 340cc Twin 2 strokes they would flat out fucking FLY! Find a old fan cooled snowmobile take the engine and torque converter set up from and use it all on the kart.
i like the way you think but those engines are too heavy and oversized that it probably won't fit on this frame unless it was mounted behind the seat. it would take 4 people to lift it onto a truck bed.
Marc Purcell It would sound funny like a gurgling sound. It's in my other video when we installed our first engine on this kart. Maybe if the straight pipe is bent downward towards the ground it would be OK?
Horsepower and displacement aren't necessarily correlated. Take my car for example. I have a 4.6 liter (4,600cc) V-8 with 224hp. My mom's car has a 3.7 liter (3,700) V-6 with 260hp. There is no way to calculate displacement solely by horsepower.
not sure what carb you are running, but I build these motors all the time and the stock 19mm carb is no good. switch to a 27mm carb you can get them for less than 20 bucks off eBay, also use the inner rotor kit you can also precise of eBay for cheap.
Yeah I just heard you say your running 15 teeth in the front and 21 teeth in the back. That is nearly a 1:1 gear ration- WAY TOO LOW(numerically). You need about a 3:1 or smaller to utilize full torque and HP. Let me know what you think.
Great karts, but I think you should use a longer gear ratio on the 125cc, try changing the sprocket, I'm pretty sure you're not using all the torque with the actual gearing.
Yup, I think it will work with a bigget sprocket, there are 50cc 4 stroke scooters that can reach about 35 mph (and they weight more or less the same as a kart) I think there is still top speed potential in that 125cc. I suggest not modifying the engine, they are honda engine projects but they are made in China so reliability could be affected.
The most performance improvements are possible through improving your carburetor. Seems like its running too rich from the video, leaning it down to a better air:fuel ratio will give you a LOT more power.
Thanks for the tip Tom. I was planning on getting a Mikuni carb for it instead of messing with this cheap $18 carb. I'll try to tweak it and see what happens. Cheers mate.
Hi man I just subbed to your channel. Me and my friend are planning on making our own gokart each till next summer. And I have some questions that I thought maybe you Could answer. What engine do you think I should use? It's my first ever project so I dont wanna be spenning that much. The cheapest one I can get now is a 99cc 1,7kw lawnmower engine, next thing cheapest is a 159cc 2,55kw lawnmower engine. What do you think about those? These are not my only questions but I would love to Email you later on if you would like to give me some friendly support ;p Love your channel btw :)
Hello Edward how are you? Sam is right, If you live in the US than i would suggest getting a 212cc predator engine for your first project. Its got lots of power and inexpensive. We usually get them for around $100. Wanted to wish you a good luck on your build and feel free to ask any questions. cheers
If i were you i would try to get as many CC's as your budget allows you to get. Go with the 159cc. Good luck mate and keep me posted on your progress. I would love to see your project some day on youtube. Send me a link to your video when you are done. Cheers
I have a 10 horse tecumseh dirt racing engine that can do the same speed as this. As well as a 125cc shifter kart that will hit triple digits. I agree with the other guy play with gearing and look into jetting the carb differently and hopefully see better results.
if you want more power. try looking into salvaged motorcycles. Their are a shit ton of them, and you can get them cheap. i would recommend junkyards or online salvage auctions like copart.com you would be looking at anywhere between 250$ up to 1K. But at then end it would be worth it having an Yamaha R1 or a Yamaha R6 motor. This is also another way to make money, Because the parts that you don't need of off the motorcycle you can sell on craigslist or your local classifieds. I would you take a look into it. Would make a mean go-kart.
LukePlays I totally understand that it would be ideal way to make a sick go kart but my issue is the kart would be too heavy to lift inside a van or roll it in a truck bed. If it was off road kart with ATV tires that would be much easier. These low profile karts usually lifted and loaded by hand. Thanks for your advice.
I cant remember the gearing. I wanna say it was like a 12-14 tooth on the engine and a 44 or something on the axle. Gotta take into account how small the tires are tho to get your gearing correct. A dirtbike tire is much larger than a go kart slick.
@@joeshmo2473 i run a Lifan 4 stroke 5 speed , 30mm carby with a 25 tooth for tight tracks and 24 for larger straights , i can reach if i rev the crap out of it approx 80 to 110 on a good condition day
I figured it would be faster, I never ran a gear box on the old racing kart….this was in 1999 however, built Briggs 5hp (methanol) with racing clutch and fairly decent size sprocket (I don’t remember specifics since I was 13) and it would run around 57 on the dirt circle in the straights. Sure thing Mike. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I finally got everything together with my lifan 125cc with 4 gears. 17teeth up front and 25 rear, I was able to top out at 46mph. that 4th gear really helps
Dang thats nice to hear that you were able to get 46mph. i should of got another engine. Oh well, maybe next time. Cheers buddy.
PyroGuyz . Mines get up to 60. I seen people swooped them up to 70
Hey Congrats, you are riding, and we're only watching, so at least you're doing it.
what size tires are on the back and front of the 125cc blue kart?
Nice Job on the build

A heavier spring on the tc would keep the engine in a "lower gear" for longer too.
Because it's a pit bike motor first thing is swap the stock CDI for a performance one which will change the ignition timing and increases and or removes the max redline. I did the swap on my on pit bike and I got 6mph higher top speed without changing gearing.
The 125 sounds like the exhaust is restricted mite need to open the flange where it bolts to the head and gut the muffler
have a 212cc predator and have removed governor we have redlined the thing daily for 6 years and never had an issue havent even serviced it since we brought it in 2011 everyday it does around 2 hours drift trike hirage and is on limiter the whole time. It's nice to know that these engines can take a beating. Besides governor removal have you done anything else to your engine to improve performance? Have you messed with your carb or installed any other components on your engine?
Really good and fun to use
What engine did you use? The 3 forward 1 reverse engine.
Yes it was one of those eBay 125cc engines with 3 speeds forward and one reverse. If you can find a similar motor with 4 gears forward than it should be a little faster. Good luck.
On the blue kart you should put a cr 125 engine in it.
Been wiping my screen for 5 minutes because your display pic looks like a little hair.
Johan Kriek lmao
love your videos
really liked your build was informational thanks
Use a bigger carb to let it rev out more . Use an rpm gauge to set your sprockets right fir more speed
nice karts man. ill have to get back into it. last one i had was a margay with a built predator 212 it did a little over 70
Dang Matt, thats fast. did you clock it doing 70 or was that just a guesstimate?
Had a lot of long curbey roads where i use to live, had a buddy drive the cart and i followed him.
Cool beans bud. Nice to know that predators can scoot 70 and take a beating.
This is gold! I'm building a dirt kart for my lad with what looks like the same Lifan engine. I was wondering about sprocket ratios and this is a big help. All else being equal, if I run 14/44 that should drop the top speed to about 50 km/hr and give good acceleration. Thanks!

Thank you Kyle for useful info. i will try and see if any of these options will help. Cheers.
how long does it last how many miles per gallon ???
Where is that place located? Are there no cups right there?
Rodrigo Rodriquez
Back in the day when that area was being developed there were no cops or construction workers so we used to go there on the weekends. If you google map it you’ll find it near interstate 5 and the cross streets are Arena blvd and E. Commerce way in Natomas.

What model of honda is that 9hp's steering wheel i want to know because i want to put one on my kart
change front sprocket to a smaller one. maybe a big bore kit would work too or even nitrous. just a general upgrade of all parts e.g. exhaust, intake and carby to a proper branded version not a cheaper version aways helps
james kay
Thanks for the tip. I will start with the carb first and go from there.
No problem...also if you buy a proper branded carb you might be able to get bigger jets for it then if you get a better intake for increased air into the motor you should be all set
Is that torque converter go kart's govenor removed?
Well on go karts is hard to get 125cc true top speed, because of the small wheels. 36mph is decent...my daily moped 125cc 4 gears, small carb, 17" wheels, max 7500rpm, 15-36 pulley it can do 71mph and haha it can do more when the cyl.head is ported 100%, big carb, body weight plays a role too...btw your go kart is nice
Balabay you should play more with different sprocket numbers and see what your sweet spot is, for everyone is different
Question how much weight can it hold and could someone 6ft plus fit in that
I just installed a 100cc or close to it dirtbike engine on my go kart , semi auto 4 speed , I have a 12-14 tooth gearbox sprocket and on my axle is a 40 some tooth sprocket , gear ratio comes out to about roughly 3.5-2.5 , would this be fast?
Aren't you around dry creek park in antelope California
also i think you should weld some tubing to the gear shifter at an angle to make it easier to shift. if you did make it rise up about 3 or 4 inches from where the shifter is now
Where is that place?
How would you disconnect the governor on this kind of motor?
Chase Loughlin it's different for every motor
Just look it up your your motor
Nice
Luvstruck the motor has a pod filter and aftermarket exhaust. this motor has cdi ignition not mechanical so no gov to remove and despite what people know these motors cdis do not have a rpm limit in them. what he can do since the stock 19mm carb is maxed from the get is swap to a 27mm as u said more air plus more fuel. addition adding inner rotor kit will allow it rev higher. porting the intake and exhaust will help also 'gasket match'. further more these are lifan motors the make from 49cc to 140cc then switch to vertical for 150 to 250cc. cheap and easily found parts.
there are "faster" cdi ignitions. and a 21mm or even a 26mm carb can be mounted on this engine
Good video, nice job.
Is a 14/21 the best gear ratio for the best top speed , mine is a 4 speed so i want and even medium between top speed and torque but i dont mind buying the top speed rear sprocket to test , what would be best ?
Been here since 450 subs
Thats odd, I've looked in your subs and I'm not on the list---awkward
balabay77 what do you mean I am not subscribed iv watched every video about the pit bikes and monster mini bike and the tear downs and all the fixes you have done to the ssr 125 automatic
If it says I'm not subscribed I will just not watch your videos anymore sorry
For some reason i looked at your subscription list and couldn't find my channel.
Appreciate you watching our projects mate.
how much ps has the red engine from eberth?
That old Honda steering wheel :D
hi my name is michael i love this thing
can you try to add a body to the go kart so it looks like a mini car?
what kind of brake do you have?
Eu sei q sou brasileira mais eu gostei de mais de ver as coisa q vc faz eu vou fala cm os meu amigo para divulgar o seu canal ✌
Hello Santiago. Thank you so much and i'm glad that you liked our videos. Cheers
Vocês tem Instagram para eu seguir vcs lá
Will do. Thanks for advice. Cheers mate.
are you accelerating completely ? you can also check the governor on the engine to see if thats what is keeping you from going faster , nice go karts
Hey David how are you? Yes i gave it all i got but it just doesn't want to go any faster. i'm guessing if it was a 4 gears engine than it would of went a little bit faster (45 maybe?)
i don't think that this engine even have a governor. if you come across any videos where someone removed one than send me a link. Thanks bud.
balabay77 ill look that up for you because that engine should be able to go alot faster than that and mind subscribing to me ? lol but yeah it should go faster even if it does have 3 gears , my pocket bike when i was using it and it was running it did 35mph and its a 49cc engine and it has a single gear , but yeah im pretty sure it does because most engines have it , but at the moment i cant find a video where someone removed one
how about the acceleration cable ? maybe its a bit long ? you can also check that , i dont know that much about go karts or motocycles lol just trying to help
Yes a smaller sprocket on the motor would make this faster. Also a makuni carb with larger jest would make for a great addition.
Thanks for the tip. i will start with the carb and see if that helps. Cheers.
He needs a smaller rear axel sprocket or larger engine sprocket to increase top speeds. Smaller engine sprockets will increase acceleration.
also jet the carb and play around with the fule to air ratio to get it to run even better, the mixture scre sometimes isnt installed completely correct and needs to be adjusted a slight bit
Austin Facemyer
Actually I was planning on getting a 26mm Mikuni carb for it as well as another type of air filter. Someone suggested a straight pipe, maybe that will also help. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers
yeah a straight pipe should work pretty good to because there is hardly any air restriction but watch out for angry neighbors :D
Thanks for your advice Austin. Appreciate it. Cheers.
+balabay77 no problem
Nice kart! What size axle sprocket is that? #40,41 or 420? The ones on ebay seem to only be #40.
@balabay77 you need to setup a jackshaft for more gear(speed).
That slows it down
I don't know if anyone answered this yet, how many tooth sprocket on engine and axle? If at max size for sprockets the only option to make it faster is a jack shaft which looked like you would have enough room.
where can I get this project to do a go kart like that?
I was thinking if putting a 14hp 160cc lifan 4speed engine on a spare chassie, so im curious what power that 125cc has.
Definitely not 14hp!!!!
Мне нужен твой opinion. Какой двигатель сильнее 125cc или Honda with torque converter?
У меня есть Honda 8hp но я хочу купить 125cc, мне кажется что они лучше так как они с трансмиссией идут. Какой движок вам нравиться больше? Какой из них делает burnouts better?
Roman Kostenko
To be honest with you I'm not an expert when it comes to engines.
To increase the speed of these turn the throttle and air flow up and put a large gear on the front and a small gear on the back
I love watching this! It reminds me of mario kart. Subscribed.
I have a 6 speed 125cc shifter that can do about 110mph, you should maybe try a larger sprocket on the engine and a smaller sprocket on the rear axle, hopefully get better gear ratio and increase speed if I’m right
what is the engine called??
I have a built predator 212.. cammed, gov removed, pulse pump, rejetted, performance plug, header, etc.. it rips and I'm 215lbs. With that said, it'll never be fast enough lol
Where did you get your chassis
Got it on craigslist for $100. Sometimes classified ads have great deals.
What engine and trans is that?
Turbocharged or supercharged
What company makes the frame?
Not sure who made the frame but found it on craigslist for $100.
what app is this? or what app can I get for an android
That 125 cart custom frame or can some one buy one like it??
nick edmunds
The frame is probably some old school vintage go kart. Not sure what the name brand it was but definitely not homemade. If you’re looking for a used go kart try Craigslist or some other local website or app that sells used stuff. OfferUp and letgo also a great place to look. Good luck
@@balabay77 Those 125cc came with pz20 carbs pz22 better hp pz20 bogs bad
they sell alot of stuff for the 125cc. the cheapest thing that might add a little speed is a cdi. other than that you could buy a cam, or big bore kit. now that you made that engine mount you can use any of those style engines... the ones with clutches make good power. lifan 125cc big valve engine is less than $350. you can go as high as 200cc direct bolt in
My best bet would be a 2 stroke.
TWIN TURBO!!!!!!!!!!!
Where u get the exhaust
i have a 110 quad and if you take that box off the wiring harness it kills the governor my cousin got it to 38 before it got to sketchy because we are two grown adults on a childs quad
CDI box? how will it run without it?
balabay77 idk my ran without it for a long time until the ignition switch went bad so i just straight wired the whole thing
are you guy's in natomas
Ryan Olander
We live in North Sacramento but yeah this video was made in natomas.
great video my friend !
Giannhs Daskalakhs
Thanks buddy. Glad you liked it. 👍
You should get a huge engine and put it on something
Superveggie 12
I like the way you think but it would be too heavy to load into a truck. On the other hand, it would be hella fun though.
Superveggie 12
Superveggie 12
Lol
It def needs something. Such a capable frame and it only goes 35 , what a waste
It sounds like it came off of one of those little mini trucks that some companies use, when there is a lot of space to cover. They don't rev very high like a 125 cc bike does, plus it has a reverse gear.
A Yamaha 250cc engine👌🔥
Where can i buy a good adult go kart
tuning it will give u more low end (power), changing sprockets will give u top end (speed). It would be best to tune, change pistons, ect and change the sprockets until you find the ratio best for u.
Next time i will get manual 4 gears engine and maybe it will gain some speed. In the meantime i will tweak the carb and see if that will help. cheers
Go big or go home get a 250 5 gear used on Craigslist, you can pull 90mph with the correct sprockets
i like the way you think. So you're saying there's still a chance for me to go Big? I will look for a 2 stroke 250cc. Cheers mate.
2 stroke or 4 stroke your welcome good luck!
what model of the engine sir
You can find this engine here www.amazon.com/125ccSemi-automatic-Motorcycle-Bike-Engine-Motor/dp/B01HJMQRS0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1490067342&sr=8-9&keywords=125cc+engine
ever wonder what the three holes are on the cvt or the jackshaft pulley put the spring end in hole#1 or hole#2 and see what ya get as far as out of the hole power were talking wheelies oh yea
So hole #1 is low end torque and hole #2 is better top speed? Wheelies here we come.
i honestly cant recall 1 or 3 its been so long since i ran the setup but try 1 or 3 and you will see that each hole is at the extreme end of the scale of the variable transmission aspect of that setup if its hole 1 the motor will wind up when you slam on the gas and then bam its on and either youll be smokin the tires or the front ends comeing off the ground or blow the belt if its not fresh
oh and no on the top speed thats a matter of the gearing determining top speed the spring placement just does the way your power is transmitted to the rear wheels
when you changed the sprocket, did you lose speed? look at the first cart and the sprockets sizing,i think you will find your answer. love the donuts at the end, keep the shiy side up my friend
3 gears is not enough, my next engine will have 4 gears.
i dont think they have governors,i am sure if you google pit bike engine modifications you will find some ideas
They make performance CDI boxes that remove the rev limiter and advance the timing.
how tall are you ?
My kid is 5 feet 3 inches tall.
Sounded like you could've revved that pitbike engine gokart alot more I can't tell for sure how fast yours was spinning over video but they can easily take 10k rpm
I'd upgrade the carb to a 24mm, change the sprocket ratio a little bit and performance no limit CDI
Performance CDI is probably a good way to go. Thanks for the tip.
I used to work on these engines quite a bit and I found the use of a performance CDI is the best option for fast and easy performance. Best of luck
Thanks bud for your advice. Cheers mate
you could make the rear sprocket even smaller
NITROUS
Elijah Spade
That would be sick. Thanks.
balabay77 they have kits for go karts that use little cannisters that look like co2 cannisters
Elijah Spade
I'll have to google that. Thanks for the tip.
With the money you put out on those 4 stroke engines and still wanting more speed WHY do you not use a KT100 engine?
I've looked online and used KT100 engines go for around $650. By the time i buy new carb and clutch for it entire running engine will end up costing well over $1000. If you know any links to good quality 2 stroke engine feel free to share. Thanks for watching our video. cheers
balabay77 $1000 are you kidding? that's crazy!!!!! Hey how about a snowmobile engine =) the older snowmobiles were 440cc and 340cc Twin 2 strokes they would flat out fucking FLY! Find a old fan cooled snowmobile take the engine and torque converter set up from and use it all on the kart.
i like the way you think but those engines are too heavy and oversized that it probably won't fit on this frame unless it was mounted behind the seat. it would take 4 people to lift it onto a truck bed.
balabay77 That is true, though they do make single cylinder snowmobile engines.
Tjakepzzz 👌 👍 Very Nice
You should strait pipe it ( no muffler)
Marc Purcell
It would sound funny like a gurgling sound.
It's in my other video when we installed our first engine on this kart. Maybe if the straight pipe is bent downward towards the ground it would be OK?
Como se llama las llantas donde puedo conseguirlas
Le gustaría decirme sus medidas q utilizo para hacer el semi-auto 125cc
how do you calculate cc?
my engine is 7bhp
Horsepower and displacement aren't necessarily correlated. Take my car for example. I have a 4.6 liter (4,600cc) V-8 with 224hp. My mom's car has a 3.7 liter (3,700) V-6 with 260hp. There is no way to calculate displacement solely by horsepower.
get a mikuni carb and a racing cdi also adjust your carb so it wont be to rich or lean
not sure what carb you are running, but I build these motors all the time and the stock 19mm carb is no good. switch to a 27mm carb you can get them for less than 20 bucks off eBay, also use the inner rotor kit you can also precise of eBay for cheap.
you can just swap it also the jetting tends to be fine for me when I use them.
Yeah I just heard you say your running 15 teeth in the front and 21 teeth in the back. That is nearly a 1:1 gear ration- WAY TOO LOW(numerically). You need about a 3:1 or smaller to utilize full torque and HP. Let me know what you think.
Top of the Class. Correct answer...
Like a 54 tooth axel sprocket. Guarantee he’ll hit 40 with no problem
Great karts, but I think you should use a longer gear ratio on the 125cc, try changing the sprocket, I'm pretty sure you're not using all the torque with the actual gearing.
Sovietguy
So in other words I should get bigger sprocket?
Какого размера должна быть задняя шестерёнка?
Yup, I think it will work with a bigget sprocket, there are 50cc 4 stroke scooters that can reach about 35 mph (and they weight more or less the same as a kart) I think there is still top speed potential in that 125cc. I suggest not modifying the engine, they are honda engine projects but they are made in China so reliability could be affected.
Thanks for your advice buddy. Appreciate it.
Edward Kenway get a habor freight predator 212 I swear to god you won't find anything bettter and there very powerful for only 120$
Hello Edward how are you?
Sam is right, If you live in the US than i would suggest getting a 212cc predator engine for your first project. Its got lots of power and inexpensive. We usually get them for around $100. Wanted to wish you a good luck on your build and feel free to ask any questions. cheers
balabay77 Yeah, well thats the problem. I live in Europe so it's a bit difficult for me to obtain :/
If i were you i would try to get as many CC's as your budget allows you to get. Go with the 159cc. Good luck mate and keep me posted on your progress. I would love to see your project some day on youtube. Send me a link to your video when you are done. Cheers
balabay77 k, thanks :)
make it faster ? weight reduction
You're right, i'm too fat and too old for these carts so i'll let the kids go at it. Cheers.
Change the cilinder heads or change some things on the exhaust
Many viewers recommend running a straight pipe but my neighbors might not like that.
drill jets with small drill bit and add a turbo
I have a 10 horse tecumseh dirt racing engine that can do the same speed as this. As well as a 125cc shifter kart that will hit triple digits. I agree with the other guy play with gearing and look into jetting the carb differently and hopefully see better results.
what a beast if you put in a yz250 2stroke in it
That would be a screamer. 2 stroke engines are a bad ass.
if you want more power. try looking into salvaged motorcycles.
LukePlays
I totally understand that it would be ideal way to make a sick go kart but my issue is the kart would be too heavy to lift inside a van or roll it in a truck bed. If it was off road kart with ATV tires that would be much easier. These low profile karts usually lifted and loaded by hand. Thanks for your advice.
NP, bro
I'm disappointed. 35 is super slow for a 125cc shifter. My shifter kart will do atleast 55. 125cc 4 stroke 4 speed.
What gearing
joe shmo my old Ktm 50 did around 70 kmh
I don’t think he was even shifting it
I cant remember the gearing. I wanna say it was like a 12-14 tooth on the engine and a 44 or something on the axle. Gotta take into account how small the tires are tho to get your gearing correct. A dirtbike tire is much larger than a go kart slick.
@@joeshmo2473 i run a Lifan 4 stroke 5 speed , 30mm carby with a 25 tooth for tight tracks and 24 for larger straights , i can reach if i rev the crap out of it approx 80 to 110 on a good condition day
maybe a jack shaft to increase to get higher gearing still geared to low should be able to get at least 45 to 50
Moto Jay
I like the way you think. Jackshaft is actually a great idea. Thanks for the tip.
