A big reason the king kept pardoning her is because his brother was also in gay relationships, enjoyed crossdressing and dueled, so if he persecuted her, he would also have to persecute his brother.

@@aaaaa-mw4bi We only know that he crossdressed and had affairs with other men. There is a podcast called hysterical history about Julie. Beyond all the fighting and loving, they mentioned how at one point she had been a lady's maid and how, when she got fed up, she did up the lady's hair with (possibly rotting) fruit in the back. From the front it looked normal, but people would laugh when they saw the back. That was her way of quitting, disappearing into the night while a scene she caused unfolded.

I really want to see a rock opera based on Julie d'Aubigny. I mean, Hamilton and Six are things. And when I say rock opera, I do mean the opera part. Rock orchestration with La Maupin being a classical/legit contralto. (I read somewhere she was a contralto, if there's historical evidence for the otherwise, she should be that. But Contralto does work for the genderbending)

This is an amazing video about an even more amazing person, but I couldn't help but think of this as a tale of a highly traumatized woman. Her father sounds like a piece of work and his employer that was into actual children was just awful. I'm impressed that she was able to live her life to it's fullest while dealing with all of that from her formative years. In one sense it's a tale of triumph, but in another it's a tragic life cut unfortunately short. I love this series! Thanks for sharing it.

Why hasn't someone made a 20-volume manga series about this girl?

  • @Erideah

Her story really needs a new movie or TV adaptation. The old ones weren't memorable, I only even connected the dots that I had heard the story before towards the end, but it's such a great story. I'm sure it certainly could be told memorably

Last year a small production company released a play inspired by her. I really wanted to see it but it released right when lock down happened... If anyone's interested it's called Revenge Song (A Vampire Cowboys Creation).

I had a translation to do today the last two words were 'Tant pis' which is said, and you know is said, 'ton pe' if you know the french language. My stupid dumbass pronounced it 'Tanned piss'. Needless to say. My sister an I fell in the floor laughing.
