Marlene Dietrich had also left a mark on music as well as film. Freddie Mercury, the openly bisexual frontman of the band Queen, was so fond of Dietrich’s films that he even based the cover art for Queen II on a famous photograph of her he kept in his house in London.
It was Made For Me more! (background voice): No! For ME more (etc..)😀. Clearly made for me - Stevie patreon supporter and she appears; I'm bi so Marlene story is totally fascinating and awesome; while watching I discover my wife's also huge fan of Ms.Diet(might that be her rapper name nowadays?) and studied her. UUUHMMMM actually.... Marlene and her husband had a very loving relationship and felt deep appreciation for each other. They were supporting each other's love lives and were great confidantes in heart ship too. Rudolf Sieber answer if would ask why Marlene is not settling down at the ranch with him (and his lover): “Why should she retire? She keeps getting better all the time. I went to Las Vegas twice to see her show at the Sahara and was as proud of her as I was 35 years ago, when she was just beginning. Now she’s appearing in Paris again, and how they love her there! Am I still in love with her? More than ever.” before her death, in her oldest age, she called him her best friend. I think the relationship went so much deeper and had such a mutual understanding in free love in the time they lived in. Only calling it a "cover up" would be selling it too short :) I love her so much! thanks for making this wonderful video
Fabulous as always. Looking at Marlene's war effort, I can't help thinking "SHE's the model for Captain America in Marvel's CA First Avenger" only with more flair.
Amazing video again ^^ Might I just add tho, a story about that kiss in Morocco. She knew there was a really big chance of her kiss being cut out of the film. Hence, she took a flower from the woman and gave it to Gary Cooper. That way, there would be continuity problems had they cut the scene :)
As a German I highly approve of this video. Started liking her as a child and she was just such a beautiful human being on both the inside and outside.

GLADYS BENTLEY is someone I'd love to see an episode about!! She has such an interesting story, set mainly during the Queer Harlem Renaissance. Not to mention she wore one of the most iconic suits of all time, sang like nothing you've heard before or since, and still has yet to get the widespread historical respect that she deserves.
The disability police are insufferable! Some days I need a cane, some days I can go for a mild hike, mind your effing business ya twats. Sending love and support your way.
@@toadlove98 also on days when I've got my cane someone will see me going up stairs instead of going the long way round to the crazy long ramp and ask "should you be doing that with a cane?" I'm sure some people ask from a kind place of concern, but I'm certain others ask because they are doubting my need for the cane. As if they know my condition better than me, silly disability police, I'm using my cane today because I knew I would have to go up stairs and this will allow me to do that independently. If I didn't have my cane I would actually need a lift because even ramps can be too difficult (foot drop and thigh weakness + arthritis in the knees, it's a good combination)
I feel so at home watching your videos with all the historical and queer content. I'm loving this episodes with historical figures such as Anne Lister, Queen Anne and now Dietrich. (The one about Mary Stuart was great too!) It would be great to have a Greta Garbo video, but I was about to suggest a Joan Crawford one too. I was dying to see you make a reference about her when you showed "The Sewing Circle" book cover (in which she is included) and couldn't stop laughing when you mentioned the "Mommie Queerest" reference. I know Crawford it's a controversial figure, but I think her story and possible Queerness would make a lovely video. Thanks for keep posting and have a beautiful day. ♥
Speaking of history: I read of a school in the United States that decided to add LGBT historical figures to their curriculum starting with the third-graders and the parents went nuts and started yanking their kids out of school! I had to unfriend one of my cousins for her disgusting homophobia!
I love the video!! But sidenote: Billy Wilder is not from Australia but from Austria, which is in central Europe (between Germany and Italy), like Mozart, and also me;)
I'm in love with this video. I've loved Marlene Dietrich ever since I took a trip to Berlin with my school. While on the trip we had an amazing guide called Alexander, he showed us the place that Marlene performed at frequently. While explaining the life of Marlene and how she was known for her sexual adventures, he then took out a small bottle of liquid and telling us how a small perfumery in Berlin had a copy of her personalized perfume. Of course everyone had a sniff. Just to inform you that it smelled like liquorice, Parma violets and mint 😊
The sound of your voice is so soothing. I love playing your videos on high pain days when getting around is hard and it's like having an old friend over. Thank you
Okay but the fact that the neck brace is in SUCH A LOVELY COLOR??? I'm so glad medical devices are starting to come in something other than cat-puke beige.
I learnt about her briefly in my GCSE History which was pretty cool. My teacher showed us her in like a suit and top-hat and whatever to show the shift in cultural norms especially on screen in Germany in the '20s
Best. Video. EVER. Tallulah definitely deserves her own video, and I ordered both of the books you mentioned before the video was over. 😅 Thank you for the recommendations!! You might like "Women and Disability in Medieval Literature" by Tory Vanderventer Pearman

Dietrich lives on as one of the greatest icons of the 20th century. Even though she wasn't considered a good actress in her day, she managed to become Hollywood's highest paid star in the 1930s. After her war work entertaining GIs around the globe, she returned to Hollywood, and, in the early 1950s, became a big U.S. radio star with her own shows. In 1953, she started performing in her one-woman show in Las Vegas, and again, she was the world's most highly paid woman among singers. She continued acting in movies, now recognized as a character actress in Hollywood films such as "Witness for the Prosecution," "Touch of Evil," and "Judgment at Nuremberg." She won a Tony Award for the "most successful single engagement of the 1967/68 season" on Broadway. She continued her stage shows until 1975 (for her last U.S. tour in 1975, she got rave reviews), and she made her last movie in 1978. She's remembered not only as one of Hollywood's greatest stars (she was among the top 10 in American Movie Classic's List of the Greatest Stars in Hollywood in 1999), but also a fierce anti-Nazi, a fashion icon, a symbol of justice and glamor. Probably one of the greatest stars ever.
I just wanted to say thank you, for not only this video but everything you do. I have been struggling with my identity for a while now and was initially very afraid of coming out as bisexual. Brilliant as always.👏🏼 You, my dear Jessica, are also a gift to this world. Thank you.🌈❤️
I wasn't sure the whole time if it was a scarf or a neckbrace, because honestly you're just that dang fashionable that everything is just you serving looks.
This was absolutely GLORIOUS 😍 You are absolutely GLORIOUS 😍 I was feeling horrible (chronic nausea x 1000 😝) but this video put a smile on my face and made me forget about being sick for a bit. As far as suggestions for videos...more Hollywood Queers please (womxn, preferably) 😊 (actually, I would love ANYTHING you talk about). Sending positive, calming vibes for a stress-free move (can’t wait to get a glimpse of your new digs) 🌺
How do you always manage to look so elegant?
She is a gift to the world...1) correct 2) You are as well! 3 ) #RelationshipGoals 4) Silver screen vibes✅ 5) I chose to be fashionably late to comment as it is customary for anyone of good taste to be late sometimes =D
