Bobby was a counter tenor which is the rarest of all, men and women. He hit those high notes in his natural head voice - not falsetto, so yes, incredible breath control. It's true that his parents were in the audience to hear him sing for the fist time live, and he had a bit of a cold. He was more nervous than usual, but always had terrible stage fright and threw up right before going on stage to sing this. A phenom of a singer with a 4.5 octave vocal range.
Yes and the way he hit that high note so chill his face not change not even struggle to do that it's true gem he's did it flowlessly I think only him can do that hitting a high note beautifully belting without struggle
No auto-tune no pitch correction no post production, just a guy, with a microphone, and a sound system that's no where near as good as what we have today, and he just kills it. Why? Because he has a natural talent. The dude just has a good voice and knows how to use it.
Most women swoon when they hear this song. Join the club. Us mere mortal men don't stand a chance compared to this level of perfection. Notice how he breathes during this performance and how efficient he is with the breath.
Now you know how us ladies felt listening to this - like we were being serenaded! Bobby's 3-octave tenor range, so smooth and effortless, is just soulful. This was a Live performance, in 1965, before auto tune or other trickster stuff. Just pure talent. Bobby owns this (RIP).
Over 670 singers recorded this song worldwide including Elvis. I do not have to hear them all to know no one will ever take it from Bobby. They were called Blue Eyed Soul and I am so glad I grew up to this music. Listen to them sing together, Bill is the deeper voice but just so good. Either You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling or My Soul and Inspiration. Thank you.
Yep. And as big of an Elvis fan as I am, I don't even like his version of this classic--especially when compared to the #1 version: Bobby Hatfield's! His voice was perfection for this song, so any other version pales by comparison, IMO.
It still amazes me when I watch the video of Bobby singing just how great of a singer he truly was; the range, control, breath control, utter ease in which he sings. And to have that captured for all eternity on film so people can go back and watch it, experience it. There is no male singer that could match him, in the past or today. There are few female singers that had that level of talent. Others have already pointed out the big things; his mother in the audience, that he was recovering from a cold, etc. And he STILL nails it with ease. That little lip bite and smile at the end always brings a smile to my face. Yes my man, you nailed it. Good job!
No one has ever done this song that can hold a candle to Bobby Hatfield doing as good of job singing this song. Meant have tried over the years since, but not as successfully as he did it. His Mom was in the audience that night, the first time hearing hm on stage. He bit his lip knowing he did it perfect for his Mom, he was very nervous that night.
I was in high school when I watched Bobby sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. As a teenager, we fell in love with the Righteous Brothers. Bobby owns this song, no auto tunes, just pure raw talent. RIP Bobby. We miss hearing your beautiful voice! ❤😢❤
I’m 78, and I am just as touched hearing him sing this now as I was when he sang it on Andy Williams’ show. It’s timeless, no one could do justice to it today as it was performed then. There was only one Bobby Hatfield. RIP
Many don't realize this is a song about a prisoner. "Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the prison film Unchained (1955), hence the song title.
Bobby was and is the greatest vocal gymnast and interpreter of a song with his voice he rips his talent in his solo in "Summertime" and "Ebb Tide' along with "My Prayer" and "Going to the Chapel' and "Somewhere" the duo with Bill in 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and 'You're My Soul and Inspiration' and 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling.' Thank you for your a Connoisseur of the articulative acoustical delights of song and singing.
Yes Emma...you too were captured by Bobby's incredible smooth voice, his ease of delivery and emotions. Loved your reaction & I subscribed. The song recommendations above by @agapeo4137 are some of the songs you will enjoy. Both of the Righteous Brothers blend their counter tenor & baritone voices together amazingly.
I'm pleased beyond words that you have been able to reload some of your library of videos. And this is my favorite one to watch. Bobby Hatfield still stuns with this masterful performance! And I love watching such a beauty as you enjoy it so much. Keep doing what you're doing. By the way, I love to hear your excellent European-English. It's almost as though I'm having a conversation with you far from my home. Music crosses all boundaries.

No auto tune, no re-takes, no gimmicks .. just pure God given talent. Know to us oldies as blue eyed soul. Check out You've Lost that Lovin 'Feeling (most played song of the 20th century) .. also Bobby singing Summerime.
Blue eyed soul as they said back then. You are so Righteous, brother as one once said and then the legend began. So glad this video is for all to see. Unbelievable talent. RIP
That's my fav too from the Shindig TV show done in black and white video. The Righteous Brothers were regulars on that show from 1964-1966 so there's many videos of one or both brothers performing.

Any song that Bobby does is awesome. My favorites are this one (Unchained Melody), For Your Love, Love You(For Sentimental Reasons), Only You, Stay With Me, My Prayer, and Crying in the Chapel, but I love all his songs and you can't go wrong listening to any and all of them. Bobby was unique. His music was hypnotic, magical, and addictive. There will never be another Bobby, he sounded and looked like an angel from heaven!
I first heard this song at a Righteous Brothers concert in 1967 at the University of Florida. I took my girlfriend who would later become my wife to the concert. Our favorite song became Unchained Melody until her death in 1990.
Bobby was very nervous about singing this song because his mother was in the audience. But you can see at the end, when he bites his lip, he knew he nailed it. 😁
@@pegatheetoo1437 well then thankyou for sharing. You learn something new everyday as they say. I love this song. Bring back memories from when i was a kid.
To put Bobby and Bill's music and this song in perspective: Here's Emma in 2024, grooving to the Righteous Brothers' music. It's still fresh, timeless, topical and exciting. Millions of people from age 15 to 80 loves their music. It was recorded in 1965, 60 years ago. In 1965 virtually no one would have thought popular music from 1905, 60 years earlier, was fresh, timeless, topical and exciting. What makes Bobby so popular? I believe it is because he was a true tenor. He could stay in chest voice across the tenor range. He wouldn't flip into his mix or head voice because he had to. He did it as an artistic choice - to evoke the proper emotional response in the audience. And no one could touch his countertenor voice. What makes them both so popular? Bill's mastery of the baritone range. There's no other duet with their talent.
This song came from z1950's movie call Unchained. This such an awesome song sung by an extremely awesome singer. Bobby Hatfield passed away November 5, 2003. Bill Medley is singing to this day. Back then there was no autotune This is pure raw talent! Love your reaction!
Hi Emma. New sub. Love your reaction. I love this song. Such a classic. Have a great weekend. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more of your reactions.
Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful TH-cam host. Nice way to start the day. The note at the end is unreal. I wish popularity today was more focused on talent and effort, rather than sex appeal and charisma. I believe the host in this video is Andy Williams, who had a hell of a voice himself.
