    I purchased the thicker band and installed it on my Edition XS. It's a great mod! If the headband is pressing on your head, or if you have a small head it will make these headphones fit your head better. The band is also cooler on the top of the head, much like the ear cups which are very open & cool feeling, so I feel like this balances out the comfort on the top of the head to match the comfy ear cups. Shipping from the UK was quicker than I expected; it arrived in the US in less than a week.

    Was looking for answers to this issue and I can't believe I didn't check Custom Cans first for a solution. I bought a zip-on cushion from Amazon but it was awful and looked ugly, the hotspot was solved but made the headphones very top-heavy and the issue of them trying to fall off my head even worse.
    Despite having a big head I was finding the XS to be too large and loose on my head (an issue I didn't have with the HE400se), I ordered the 1.3mm version and while the gap between the headband and my head is very small compared to what I expected it has made a hell of a difference to the feel and helps grip the top of the head so they no longer shift about on my head as they did. Now it feels a little more like the Sundara but without the slightly excessive clamping force.
    Can't wait to see how the grill mod turns out now!

    My strap arrived. Super comfortable. It's a keeper. Ordering another today. But I do wonder about one thing. Without the strap, the stock padded metal headband rests against the head and the mass of the head effectively dampens the ringing that may be produced in the headband when the headphones are playing (I usually test this by tapping sharply on the cup or headband with my finger). This ringing, when undamped, transfers from the metal headband through the yokes to the cups and ear and can be seen on the FR plots of some headphones (especially gaming headphones) as a resonance spike in the midrange at the resonant frequency of the headband. But with the comfort strap, the headband is off the head and is therefore less damped and seems to ring a bit. You might consider simple soft foam pad/pads that would mount under the headband which when worn would couple the headband to the strap which is coupled to the head thus dampening headband ringing.

    I got the XS but they are too large for both me and the wife. The headphones don't fit either of us so was thinking of returning them as they are not great if half way down your ear.... Will this be a solution? Or should we return them and try some other headphones (e.g. Sundara or Sennheiser HD6 series?).

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you got the thicker 2mm one it would make them fit smaller heads as it raises the headband up off the head by 10-20mm. I suppose it depends on whether you like the sound - if you like their sound signature than it is probably worth modifying them of not then send them back and get something else

    Question: Is the 1mm strap in danger of stretching over time to the point where it's no longer suspending the headphones?
    Criticism: I understand why you've done it, but I will admit I'm not in love with the idea of using adhesive pads.
    Anecdote: I bought the Edition XS a little while back and haven't used them all that much simply due to the discomfort. I looked for a solution and came across a Reddit thread where the go to recommendation was a headband cover with pad from Geekria, but it looks so awful I couldn't bring myself to buy one. I thought I'd found a clever solution by purchasing a shoulder strap pad, which admittedly looks a bit better than the Geekria cover but still a bit crap (exposed velcro due to the headband diameter being a bit of a stretch for the straps), plus while it's an improvement comfort-wise it's not redistributing the weight as much as I'd like.
    Two days ago I started thinking to myself if it would be possible to essentially make a hammock out of fabric which sits under the headband with string on either side which could be tied under the plastic semi-circles at the end of the headband. Then I thought "I'm terrible at D.I.Y and that seems like it would be a right ball-ache. I really hope a better solution comes along". Today I searched again and found this.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have had one of the thinner ones in testing daily for a few months. I think it has stretched as far as it is going to now and still provides a nice level of support but if you had a small head the 2mm one would be better. We do offer a 2yr warranty just in case, if it is still good in 2 years then I am sure it will be fine;)
      As for the adhesive pads, we did try lots of different ways of attaching it , a lot of them involved dismantling the headband which we thought may be beyond some people. tried various arangements of hooks and fastners but a lot interfered with the movement of the yokes. We also needed to keep production time / cost down as this will not sell in huge numbers. I am sure there are other ways of doing it but this seemed to be the most elegent solution we tried and the sticky pads are designed to come away cleanly if you want to go back to stock

    • @napalmhardcore
      @napalmhardcore 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I went ahead and purchased one last night. I went with the thinner one. I'm not really sure if I qualify as having a small head (I wear the stock Edition XS with one click on the headband). I'll see how I get on with it and maybe consider if I want to try the thicker one in future.

      My recommendation would be do a little looking into cutting a band from hobby leather, a sheet at hobby lobby is about $10 and the bare minimum tools is about another $50 this will give you the ability to reproduce your head and on future headphones, you could either fasten them with snaps or use leather cord to tie them into the ends.
