You need a caramel wheel to remove that glue. A common tool used in bodyshops normally used to remove glue from badges that's left on the bodywork amongst other things 😉 an attachment for your drill..
Cheers Jim! We did try a caramel wheel but it wasn't very effective and was quite hard to get into the various small folds and contours... We need some sort of chemical we reckon - Any recommendations?
_WOW!_ The gentle hum of -nature- the neighbors bloody mower. My retired neighbor would mow the life out of his grass on a Sunday - even though he was home all week! The biggest, loudest mower known to man. Back in the days when the Grand Prix was actually worth watching he would drown out the TV every Sunday with that roaring drone. Happy days!
Lol, so many oldies keep their routines even if they've been retired for decades and have nothing else to do during the week. I guess it keeps them happy.
Lol, one of the nice things about living in Germany is the fact that it's simply forbidden to do noisy things in and around the house on Sundays, so everybody in the neighbourhood can relax. No lawn mowers, drills, hammers etc, just quiet contemplation of life....😂
The reason the inside of the fuel tank isn't rusty is because it has a plastic liner, I think that they shrink over time as I can't get as much fuel in the car as I used to, but it still does the job. The fuel pump assembly was ZR-1 specific ($1,500 back in the day when you could get them) but it looks like a regular C4 Vette item with a second pump grafted on, bottom line restore the one you have because you can't get them anymore.
Thanks I was curious about that thinking it looked like a plastic thank but the rust at the flange was saying otherwise! Personally a fan of plastic fuel tanks like my old Saab 900 Turbo
I was wondering if the vac was gunna blow up due to soaking up Vapor’s 😵💫😂……from the sparks from the motor……could imagine the vac exiting the stratosphere 😎👌🏽

Your RPM gauge was actually reading you can see it when you cranking rising ever so slightly so I think your crank sensor is working. I think you may have an immobiliser issue I think you may need to disable the VATS system and try again.
Thanks Thanos! I would expect it to pile much more noticeably but you could be right! The VATS system based on the light sequencing etc (security light on the dash operating as expected etc) is working to the best of my (current) knowledge!
@Auto_Funk you could unplug the crank sensor and try cranking it again see if it gauge moves at all just to verify. If you have a look at other c4s start up the gauge also barely moves on crank. Maybe worth getting some noid lights as they are fairly cheap for check for injector pulse in terms of the VATS system you maybe right but I wouldn't trust early 90s immobilisers they can at best be finicky

Brave....I've heard some horror stories of people hoovering out petrol tanks. Fuel fumes passing over the sparking brushes of the hoover motor turning the thing into a jet engine. Probably saved by being old petrol.
Hi lads good vlog again, you probably already know about a guy called Samcrac in the states he does a lot of restoration on cars and basically fannys about with them. But he has done a few Corvettes and he does have a ZR1 if you get really stuck with anything you might be able to get in touch with him for some advice. Looking forward to the next vlog.
We both watched his entire series, a couple of times to be honest :D! There is loads of amazing information, in some ways his was worse than ours, in some ways his was in better condition. His videos are so informative!
Which company did you buy that fuel evacuation pump system from ? That works so great ! The fuel tank came out do clean after you finished it. It was like new! How long was the fuel in to look like that ? Did it smell stale ?
Amazon special!! It wasn't expensive either! The fuel had been in there for 18 years but didn't even really smell fuelly , only slightly! Good result on the tank eh!
Thanks John! Tried that already - I've got a no spark no injector problem... ! I do have new coils, leads, plugs etc but at the moment I don't think it is a service item causing the issue...!
It's cranking and you got fuel pressure, your most the way their, I am assuming you are use the troubleshooting chart in the manual, your making good progress 👍😎👍
Very good shout but there is a reason I am not scanning the codes yet which I'll touch on in a later video - Because it's been sat for ages there will be all sorts of nonsense stored in the computer so I don't think there will be anything meaningful in it until it's been running and driving for a while - It's a fairly basic (ish) engine management system so I reckon by testing wiring and sensors etc we should be able to fix it without pulling the codes - The C5 was very different if you have a look at my vids, I had to do loads with the codes!
I’ll have a look once I’ve solved the ignition problem… I suspect the injectors will work in a fashion but will need to be replaced ! As long as we can get the control side sorted for now I’ll be happy… and then… the parts cannon gets fired up 🔥 😃
I had to cringe watching that vacuum used on the fuel tank, a buddy of mine did that and the fumes were present the vacuum was found about 50 feet away. Safety first and hood luck.

...let me dispel a few other myths, dishwashers don't recover from being used as parts washers....and your Sunday roast will never taste the same after you use the oven to bake engine paint......and no, apparently "I paid for it" is not a valid excuse 😂
It was the cable going from the mic receiver I think so the audio isn’t brilliant on this one…. We’ve since sorted it now, the last video in particular is a leap in audio quality 👍🏻👍🏻
Red Corvette beautiful as well. But the black one seems to have an extra X on an already X factor type car. The black one just saying you really to see a Corvette....try me
Loved to use of a cut up pop bottle, I do the same when an emergency funnel is needed 👍. My only concern going forward, is that since it has a steel fuel tank ( was expecting alloy to keep the weight down) is that if this car is going to be stood for any length of time todays fuels will create more water in the tank, if it's driven regularly then it's less of an issue, perhaps instead of cleaning / refurbing that tank consider an alloy one?. great vid as usual , thank you.
Can’t beat a cut up pop bottle 😅😅😅 you’re right about today’s fuels potentially causing a problem however we will only put low ethanol content fuel in it so hopefully we will be okay !
@@Auto_Funk I have had to use E5 since it came out, I parked the car for 6 months due to ill health and then when better failed to get the car running, it was found that just under 1/2 litre of water was at the bottom of my tank. It had 20 litres of E5 in at that point, didn't help my output from the tank to pump is at the lowest you could get so it just pumped water straight into the engine - drive the car regularly and you will be fine - just don't park it for more than 3 months.
I do need one… ! The house was built in the 60s , it actually has a garage down the side but sadly it was designed for a Ford Popular 😅😅 I wouldn’t be able to get the corvette in there… I have a second home with a wide garage (see videos of Lotus Esprit, 3 series, Audi TT) where it will be going once it’s running… it’s not in there at the minute because access is tricky if you can’t drive the car unfortunately! That will be a much better place to work going forwards…
Dont ever try to vacum a fuel tank with a normal vacum? You are pulling stuff through an electric motor. Even if it is evaporated it will still contain flammable gases.
Boring AF ! As if you filmed and posted your little trip toothed garage for fuel ! 😂😂 and showed us your exciting little filling cans up moment ! Wtaf ! 😂😂😂😂
See what I mean your just pissing around with things here and there, just bloody strip down the whole vehicle do all the body work rebuild the engine (gearbox if needed) fix what needs fixing, can’t fix it replace it, the rebuild and then you will cover everything, instead of looking for problems like you are doing, it’s like watching somebody who has never worked on a car before !! Why you pissing around with fuel if there might might a problem inside the engine etc this is painful to watch, your going to want to replace head gaskets etc anyway !!! AHhhhhhhh
Thanks for the comment and I get where you're coming from... Our challenge though as we see it is to try and nurse the car back to health without doing a complete restoration - The car doesn't need fully stripping down to become servicable again and it's pointless doing anything cosmetic at this stage. Unless I'm missing something I'm not sure how completely disassembling it will benefit us. Our order of events will be something like: Engine and running gear Brakes Tyres, suspension and most likely fuel lines MOT Then bodywork, shiny bits and interior We are hoping to have it as more of a rolling resto project rather than something that languishes off road for even more years and ends up costing a completely uneconomic amount of money for not a lot of added value. That way we can enjoy and use it as it's slowly improved.
I hate to be the one that sours the fun, BUT........ WTF.....that is a 🦄. Tank should be off , fuel lines replaced. If you need to start it use a external fuel supply. You really don't know what you have. Clean it and sell it. Let someone who knows what they are doing give it the respect it deserves.
Hi Clint! I'm not sure why you'd think the tank needs to come out when it's in such clean condition. Fuel, brake lines etc I agree. Our aim of the game at this stage is to simply get the car to run... That's the only goal! We're not looking to do anything "thoroughly" YET, we're just getting it to a base level of functionality before going in "deep"... It can never be properly restored on my drive so the first port of call is to get it to a point where it can be moved somewhere better to work on... ! Thanks for watching!
@Auto_Funk it should be up on a ramp, sump off inspecting all the journals. Taken through a full 8x4 hand crank rotation...with the plugs out before you would even consider putting fuel to it. It's pretty clear you guys are on a budget. What you are playing with here is the difference between a couple of hundred K. Do your research. Its a Unicorn. Hoovering the tank...ffs!
Fair enough! You don’t have to watch us if it’s stressful! The engine has been turned by hand with the plugs out and plenty of oil in the cylinders… I’m sure it’ll be fine 😅🫣 And as for hoovering the tank out…. I’d watered it down and there was absolutely zero fuel vapour in it 👍🏻
@Auto_Funk guys, hats off to you...lucky find. All I care about is you give that car the respect it deserves. Stop everything you are doing. Get some funding. Find a decent workshop with a ramp...then film it!! What you are doing now is.......nuts.
@ClintHornsby yep ...and that is the reason it would have stayed where it was sat if these guys hadn't taken it on . Unfortunately it would never be worth the money it would cost to do a full restoration. And there are much better cars out there for that sort of money . Not many people in the UK would want to get involved with a corvette for good reasons. If this was an American channel they'd be firing it straight up and driving it 500 miles home. 😂
That Miele is like Trigger’s broom…. I’ve had it for 10 years and replaced a few parts on it over that time - They are really well designed for user servicing. It’s as indestructible as a Henry I reckon.

Really enjoying this Gents keep it up 10/10
I love how the English call a Meile a Hoover!
Sorry Ian - I’ll make sure I say Meeeelieeee next time!😅
Ooo, got me all excited. I thought Part 4 had arrived 😂
Ha! It’ll arrive in 6 hours! I’ll be on the live chat to say hello 👋
@@Auto_Funk I'm looking forward to it 😊
Loving the content guys looking forward to more. (wee suggestion the music levels are a bit loud)
Thanks mark, taken on board 🫡!
Check for a spark at a plug lead that would rule out your crank sensor,
Thanks John!
You are correct 👍🏻 I’m thinking it’s either crank sensor or crank sensor wiring related now!
@@Auto_Funk 👍😎👍
OBD Scanner to see if any faults stored?
Very good shout but there is a reason I am not scanning the codes yet which I'll touch on in a later video - Because it's been sat for ages there will be all sorts of nonsense stored in the computer so I don't think there will be anything meaningful in it until it's been running and driving for a while - It's a fairly basic (ish) engine management system so I reckon by testing wiring and sensors etc we should be able to fix it without pulling the codes - The C5 was very different if you have a look at my vids, I had to do loads with the codes!
Check one injector! Good chance it will be varnished up,
I’ll have a look once I’ve solved the ignition problem… I suspect the injectors will work in a fashion but will need to be replaced !
I noticed my typo error: (C5) to be C4 - LT5 - Good luck with solving the issue's.
Hope i see this ZR1 runing
Me too! And I guarantee you will !
The water you rinsed the oil drum with was probably more flammable then that old fuel!
😫🫣😅😅😅 very true!
Decoded your Vin to:
USA, GM, Chevrolet, Corvette, ZR1, Coupe, late model seat belts warning and air bags, ZR1 engine, 1991,
Final Assembly Plant Location: Bowling Green,
12 to 17 Production sequence number: 800001=ZR1, 700001=Z06 2013 CONVERTIBLE 60TH, 100001=ALL OTHER MODELS
Hope it helps.
Amazing thankyou !!
I have to say I would not have gotten away with using the vaccum cleaner, and in a fule tank man that was a bit insaine
It was mostly water in there trust me…. And I waited several days before vacuuming!
@@Auto_Funk Ah ignore my other comment then :) Wasn't clear there was such a long delay!
I bet the fuels like nail varnish remover 😂
Ha! You might be surprised!
....someone owes the War Dept a new Hoover, trust me, thats going to stink 😂😂
...let me dispel a few other myths, dishwashers don't recover from being used as parts washers....and your Sunday roast will never taste the same after you use the oven to bake engine paint......and no, apparently "I paid for it" is not a valid excuse 😂
You’d be surprised! It doesn’t stink at all!!
Boom! Pop pop pop!
😅😅😅😅
Went for fuel twice and took the pumps out twice ?
Ha! You spotted my editing error!!
Thats not a hoover , its a meile vacuum...
You vacuumed the tank..👍🏻
😅😅 bad habits die hard!
😂😂
First corvette run on red diesel? 😅
😅Well the PO was a farmer so it’s possible 😅😅😅😅😅
get you some Vactan
I’ll have a look :)
"Reversal is the removal of refitting?" 🤔
Something like that :D! A joke from the old haynes manual!
did one of the microphones fail ?
It was the cable going from the mic receiver I think so the audio isn’t brilliant on this one…. We’ve since sorted it now, the last video in particular is a leap in audio quality 👍🏻👍🏻
Red Corvette beautiful as well.
But the black one seems to have an extra X on an already X factor type car. The black one just saying you really to see a Corvette....try me
We think the black is something different for sure… We’d love to have the red interior in ours!
Wheeler Dealers on a budget .....
That about sums it up 😅
Get yourself a shop vacuum like a Karcher, don't contaminate your home one.
Why don't you have the Corvette in the car port
I do need one… ! The house was built in the 60s , it actually has a garage down the side but sadly it was designed for a Ford Popular 😅😅 I wouldn’t be able to get the corvette in there…
I have a second home with a wide garage (see videos of Lotus Esprit, 3 series, Audi TT) where it will be going once it’s running… it’s not in there at the minute because access is tricky if you can’t drive the car unfortunately! That will be a much better place to work going forwards…
Check spark
Tried! Definitely no spark!! ⚡️ we will get this old girl running soon though!
Bank Holiday tomorrow . Chill out , renergise and have a beer .
That's the plan!
Filter fuel and give to your neighbour for his/hers lawnmower.
I thought about it but it’s too full of water sadly!
Don't worry about the fuel socks on the pickup pipes. All the muck will be on the outside of them, the inside is the clean side.
:) They are line new inside, just very stained from that horrid fuel!
Get your neighbour to put the old fuel through his mower ?
That's one way to put a stop to the noise!! :)
🤣Super was red and would've fired
😅😅
Dont ever try to vacum a fuel tank with a normal vacum? You are pulling stuff through an electric motor. Even if it is evaporated it will still contain flammable gases.
It's a bit late now!! :D I didn't show it but I did water it down in there to eliminate any chance of unwanted spontaneous combustion!
Boring AF ! As if you filmed and posted your little trip toothed garage for fuel ! 😂😂 and showed us your exciting little filling cans up moment ! Wtaf ! 😂😂😂😂
Boring AF ! As if you filmed and posted your little trip to the garage for fuel ! 😂😂 and filling up your ickle cans ! 😂😂😂
YOLO
It will be fine
Our order of events will be something like:
Engine and running gear
Brakes
Tyres, suspension and most likely fuel lines
MOT
Then bodywork, shiny bits and interior
We are hoping to have it as more of a rolling resto project rather than something that languishes off road for even more years and ends up costing a completely uneconomic amount of money for not a lot of added value.
The engine has been turned by hand with the plugs out and plenty of oil in the cylinders… I’m sure it’ll be fine 😅🫣
And as for hoovering the tank out….
just a cheap miele !!!!
That Miele is like Trigger’s broom…. I’ve had it for 10 years and replaced a few parts on it over that time - They are really well designed for user servicing. It’s as indestructible as a Henry I reckon.
Send in the Gnomes for the final power wash and rinse 💦🤪🪥🇬🇧.
😅😅😅😅😅
Please put a glove on your scabby hand😢👍😅
Please delete your account
Ha! It’s a burn… And it’s healed now! Don’t worry I haven’t got leprosy 😅
As if you mention Tavarish ! 😂😂 Jonny now Tavarish .. yr embarrassing yrself !
This is so painfully boring to watch ! It's almost funny ! 😂😂😂
Go back to your boyfriend
Boring AF ! As if you filmed and posted your little trip to the garage for fuel ! 😂😂 and filling up your ickle cans ! 😂😂😂😂
Yawn
