Man I did an identical set on my 86. Hei is working great so far. I removed all the emissions crap. Freeze plugs replacement today . Get it real thanks
Top dead center on comp. stroke , not exhaust stroke ! Timing mark should line up ! Intake , compression , power , exhaust ! Dist. cap usually marked (1) , mark dist. housing under # 1 , remove cap , install dist. all the way down observing location of rotor without turning housing , may be 1 tooth off , try again ! Plug vacuum hose on vac. advance , set timing !
Before pulling the old distributor out, pull the cap off. If the rotor points away from the block, it is lined up with #1, you’re good. If it points towards the block, it’s lined up with #6, and you’re at TDC on the exhaust cycle.
Hillbilly way to find TDC, pull #1 plug, put your thumb over spark plug hole, turn engine til compression spits out, then pull distributor cap, see where rotor is pointing, and move plug wires on cap to make #1 where rotor is pointing. Works every time.
What about the electrical wiring? I have a blue cap, same setup, and I’m just trying to figure out how. Everything I’ve seen says it will be a wire off the coil (since I won’t need independent coil anymore) connecting but I don’t know which wire and I don’t know where it’s connecting to.
I did the same for my Wood Chipper that has a 300-6. It solved all my ignition issues.
"I almost died" 😂
These videos get better and better! I can't wait to see what you'll fix next! Maybe another Chinese 4 wheeler?

One wire is keyed ignition. Hot when the key is on. The other is from the tach
