The 2019 Volvo XC40 is the coolest, funkiest Volvo in years. Today I'm reviewing the XC40 to show you why it's so cool -- and I'm driving the Volvo XC40 to show you why the XC40 should be on your shopping list.

Doug DeMuro
Hello doug
Doug DeMuro flamin hot cheetos👍
Hey Douglas love from India!! 💛
Stop making me hungry Doug
I'm addicted too :)
The trash can idea is one of the coolest things in any car. I wish all cars had it.
All Hyundai cars in India get it
There’s a lot of trash in India
@@steves.auckerman5966 but there is alot of trash in india, its not suppose to be an insult
Yes really better than hanging small bags on the wipers liver 😂
My TT has also one, originally its the ashtray of the smoking package, but serves perfectly as trashcan. It sits in the cupholder so also quickly removable
It has a damn trash can and 98 grocery hooks and you only give it a 7 for practicality? Never in my life have I felt so betrayed. This is some red wedding level plot twist, nobody could have seen this coming.
I thought I knew you, Doug.
I agree, practicality is 8 for me.
+Devin Callahan. It also has those huge trash cans in the doors as well. At least that's what I would use them for. Practicality is 9 for me.
Botched the value score too.. kept going on and on about the price point and what you get. 8 or 9 easy
Doug gave something a 1 the other day while calling it mediocre. He’s a wildman
No one takes his scores seriously anyway.
If I had a dollar for every time he said quirky in this video, I'd have a Volvo xc40
Lol!!! You could even have an XC60! Plus who’s ever thought of Volvos being quirky? I love Volvos btw.
Approximately 45000
@@chapaasia4823 Doug literally mentions in the beginning of the video that Volvo became popular for making unusual cars
Have owned one for 3 months. Hands down the absolute WORST rides I've had the misfortune of being in !
@@abramsatwo2515 Ouch! ☹ What's bad about it?
It’s not a credit card holder. Although it can be used for credit cards, the main use is for tickets in car parks (very common in Europe).
You go to park your car in a private paid car parking and you receive a ticket so you can pay later when you exit the park. You store there the ticket so you don’t lose it and they’re always at hand
yea thats what i thought it was. it would be really stupid to store credit cards in your car.
Also good for e-moneys in Indonesia, its a e-cash card that you use to pay parking and tollways and a lot of other things, which is essential if you live in Indonesia, especially Jakarta
But the fact today you have to TAKE the ticket with you to pre-pay it, then use it at the final gate to lift the barrier arm. What place makes you sit in your car fumbling round trying to pay for parking through your window while others bank up behind you?? Southern US states maybe..
Also useful for tolls in europe where you can pay by card.
Paid ticket carparks are a thing in Australian main cities (melbourne, sydney, adelaide etc)
Male Symbol is also ancient symbol for iron. Swedish metal.
The symbol means roll on latin
It’s the symbol for iron. Volvo means I roll and the company got it from a ball bearing company. I work for these guys in South Carolina.
It’s also Saturn the lines coming out of the round part represents the rings of Saturn. Come to think of it,just about every car manufactures logos has something to do with Saturn.
Mike Thomas except for Saturn.
I was driving my volvo and some feminazi in the parking lot called me sexist because it has a male symbol in the grill lol
The credit card holder is actually for parking passes. This is actually really damn smart.
Patrick Tomasso That sounds stupid. How is the parking guard supposed so check the pass when it is hidden?
Baxtexx You take it out and show it to the security guard you fucking donut.
It's for the kind that you get when you enter a parking lot and hand back to an attendant or machine when you leave. Not the kind you leave on your dash for the attendant to walk around and view. My Malibu Maxx had a clip on the windshield for those and it was really cool.
@@Baxtexx Apartment buildings and offices typically have NFC passes. You just tap to get in.
In Europe you can pay the tolls on highways by credit card so is really useful to put your credit card .

The credit card holder seems like a handy place to store a parking garage access card.
RickMakes or driving licence
and at least here (in EU) all gas stations have their own client card the same size as credit card.. so I believe they are for rather such kind of various stuff on for credit cards :))
PBA card and registration.
Or ID cards. Anything but a credit card. Mostly garage cards or company ID cards
Car Wash Card
Think the soft engine cover is to protect pedestrians on impact when they hit the engine hood. At least it sounds like a thing Volvo would do.
You know, I have that in my 2014 v40 and it kinda makes sense with the bonnet (hood) airbag we have....

That little trash can is a brilliant idea. Doesn't take away much space and would greatly reduce people's tendencies to throw straw wrappers or receipts etc out of the windows and back into nature. There are even aftermarket products that perform the same function but to have it built in to the vehicle is awesome. Good job Volvo
Ford Hermansen I could never imagine myself littering lol, that’s what door panels are for!
the thing that really gets me about people throwing stuff out of their window is they're likely going home or to some other place that probably has a trash can that is easily accessible if they just waited until they got to where they were going. it makes no sense to me that people would rather throw it out onto the street or sidewalk than just hold onto it for a few more minutes and toss it in the trash where it belongs
Dakotah Huey Some people are just retarded. I'm sure that people that have this car Will still litter if they already did it before.
Why don't more cars have built in trash cans?? That is such a good idea
Every once in a while tou go through a drive-thru or you park to get something to eat and having a trash can is very useful
I had an 88 Fleetwood that had one. I have often wondered why that went out of fashion. That and "cornering lights", both of which the Cadillac had.
Every BMW has one. It starts at the front bumper and ends at the rear. Fill it with whatever you like, it's not taking it far so you should just send it off to the heap with the surrounding bin.

Doug: "Volvo is a name you wont see on any other vehicle"
Volvo uses a foam engine cover for pedestrian impact safety, since they are heavy into their safety.
Asphalt8ficionado ahhhh interesting makes sense
like , i would prefer to be taken by a volvo a 100miles an hour than a bmw, the foam decreases the pain before death,mr.asfaltoitoaficionado
I dont think im going to drive my car with the hood open ...
Hood is also made that way that it's easy to bend but still thick enough to protect windshield in severe crash
No it's not. It's to save weight and is less for cost then plastic.. I worked there
The Foam Engine Cover is there for Passive Safety. After a Crash, if you happen to run over a person, most likely that person‘s head is going to hit the hood, and the hood will give way. The Foam is there so that the person‘s head doesn‘t just hit the hard Engine Cover or even worse, the Engine block. That could lead to a fatal injury, also on lots of models the Hood automatically pops open (on the windscreen side) so that there‘s even more room for preventing serious injuries to a person being run over.
Also there‘s the added benefit of reducing engine noise. Hope that clears things up.
You tell him dude!
The man who designed it, from BASF PU, said its main function was sound deadening and space saving. He mentioned safety aspect as an additional benefit
Volvo found that the Engine foam cover is much more than a cover, it was designed to deal with the potential of hitting someone and the person hits or slams downward and it reduces the impact. Volvo safety is active and passive. The cars have always been designed to be much more than the surface. I'm still amazed by the things I see and learn about on the 240, related to safety and more. The 240 saved my partner's life on a head-on crash with a Ford Crown Vic. Each car was moving 55 to 60 mph. The other car had the steering wheel in his chest and he lost one eye and suffered many other injuries. My partner fractured her ankle but walked away from the massive crash in Alaska. AMAZING CARS! One more item to think about, Volvo has never built any model to only pass safety requirements. They are so far advanced and have all models face impacts offset, side, and much more long before any other car maker. All other cars mulid them to pass the safety test. Sad, but true. My friend's AUDI seat collapsed due to poor and cheap designs. Volvo would never build a seat to fall apart. Look into the seat problem with many very expensive cars, not Volvo. Volvo is not perfect, but with regards to safety and quality made durable cars, the designs are bar-none in comparative aspects. Lastly, my uncle in Germany with Mercedes, told me that Volvo is a better-designed car with regards to safety, for sure. He was, but now retired, a parts manager, designer, with the company for 31 years.
That's not completely accurate. The man who designed it, from BASF PU, said its main function was sound deadening and space saving. He mentioned safety aspect as an additional benefit
glad you reviewed this one! enjoy seeing the different suv reviews

About the Volvo logo from their Website:
Ancient logotype
At the same time as VOLVO was reactivated, the ancient chemical symbol for iron, a circle with an arrow pointing diagonally upwards to the right, was adopted as a logotype.
This is one of the oldest and most common ideograms in Western culture and originally stood for the planet Mars in the Roman Empire. Because it also symbolised the Roman god of warfare, Mars, and the masculine gender (as every bird-watcher can tell), an early relationship was established between the Mars symbol and the metal from which most weapons were made at the time, iron.
As such, the ideogram has long been the symbol of the iron industry, not least in Sweden. The iron badge on the car was supposed to take up this symbolism and create associations with the honoured traditions of the Swedish iron industry: steel and strength with properties such as safety, quality and durability. The new car also got its name VOLVO written in its own typeface, Egyptian.
Today, the iron logo also stands for a brand that radiates modern and exciting design and has a strong emotive connection with the customers.

12:15 have you ever happened when you happened?
As it happens, yes

According to volvo, the foam is for when you hit a pedestrian, it hurts them less than a solid plastic or metal cover.
I like how Volvo's entire premise when building their cars is that their drivers are all so bad at driving that they'll eventually hit a pedestrian or a moose so they design their cars for that eventuality lol

Pretty impressive, smart packaging.
Doug DeMuro the Sheldon Car Guy. Great Video
Typical Volvo always taking safety so seriously, keeping a dedicated pistol compartment under the driver’s seat.
Haha I was actually surprised Doug didn't think of that. I thought "that's definitely a gun compartment".
I guess they should add pop-up rocket launcher holders for the customer to later install. Offense is the best defense amiright?
Aron Estabillo both my bmw and vw had a similar compartment but by the headlight switches. Shaped like a pistol would be if upright and the barrel slightly down. My dealer did a horrible job prepping the car as their was a receipt in the VW. Turns out the prior owner replaced one of the front LEDs. With another 75k miles on it all I had to do was replace one of the HIDs twice.

Doug is the kind of guy who walks into a stereo store and asks to see their selection of "air woofers"
I was shocked when I learned daddy dougs age. Thought he was in his 40s or 30s. He is only 29.
Cyril TV no wayyyy
Yes sad looks about 43
I thought this comment was going to end well for him
working out and a haircut would help him a lot imo
Ferenc Karap a haircut and some good clothes will do wonders + working out
Never seen a car-potato chips match-up. Nice way of branding and cleverly done, Doug!
4:06 when doug says "rock the bass" has got to be one of his more funniest moments! hahah i'm in stitches
- air woofer is the coolest. Look at how beautiful it makes the inside of that door.
The "credit card holder" is genious and I totally need that in my car. Not for credit cards but for the card needed to access my University and my Neighborhood as it's always a problem to try and grab them right at the entrance.
Damnit Doug, those are mid-range speakers on the door, not subwoofers...
Ken Peng at least someone said it
Yeah a door mounted subwoofer would just rattle everything inside the door apart. Lol.
He did admit to not knowing much about audio stuff, but that is pretty sad.
The Air Woofer is still a woofer, it's just vented differently. Not a sealed box or large driver.
KentB27 go look at any Porsche door. You'll see they stick 9" subs in the doors.
Love your reviews. You are so finny and amazing to watch. I’m digging this crossover. I will test drive it soon. Keep up the great reviews.
