Andreas Hartono same. CX-5 is my pick, I absolutely love the refinement of the CX-5 and the styling of it. I think it is much more refined feeling and looking compared to the XC-40z The XC-40 has great features and all, but the styling and colors are way too progressive for me. Having driven both, I chose the CX5 Signature and absolutely love it. Driving feel and cornering is not even close. The Volvo emblem is not worth the extra $ and repair costs, etc... great review.
"No one" buys these cars for performance, and yet I was just at a BMW event with professional driving instructors driving their X2 suv going around an autocross track. Alot of wasted money on a Nationwide tour for 'no one'. And the US Volvo R-design turbo awd starts at $39.2K without options like heated steering wheel, premium sound, sunroof etc. Similar spec it will cost around10 k more than mazda
First off it's "R-design" trim And the prices are for similar features, which the Volvo has to be optioned to get to a similar level. The price you quote of $36k is for a non turbo fwd car. The equivalent Mazda in middle trim Touring would only be $26k and still be better equipped. The reviewers actually doing Volvo a favor, they used the top of the line Mazda trim and only the medium trim for the Volvo
I've driven both Mazdas and Volvos and I have to say, for comfort very little comes close to a Volvo... but if you want a car that drives well, it's Mazda all the way.

My wife has a 2017 cx-5 GT. I really like it but have always thought it was a bit under-powered for my tastes. This new engines solves that one flaw. It's definitely best in class.
What class do you think it’s in? Honda Pilot, Toyota RAV4, or Nissan Rogue class? Or higher up? I think it’s better than all of those in terms of interior, no competition. If that’s the class you’re putting it in.
I just got a CX-5 and I love it. It's not the signature though. Still, it has a great safety rating and the handling of the Mazda is fantastic. So much fun.
I chose the cx5. Really. Im a swede and i drive a cx5 2.5L awd at petrol from 2017. Beautiful and brilliant car. I had a xc40 T5 AT as rental car for two weeks and it went from possible buy to a no no. There was an irritating minor delay in pedal response. The start/stop function was far too sensitive and stopped the engine when waiting in the middle of a crossing. The absence of a joystick or alike to control the infotainment. I enjoy to shift gears using +&- but the 8 gear transmission takes the fun and meaning out of it.
Greta comparison guys. I just spent 2 months doing it myself. Decided on the Mazda CX-5 in GT trim in white leather with a turbo and the difference is paying for an OS holiday to NZ!!
Great review! I'd chose the Mazda, Volvo do offer more features like self parking and self driving (light!), but u'd have to pay for each of these extras, while with japanese cars like Mazda you can get the top trim and get almost everything apart from engine warmer and a pulley! Plus Mazda have better steering , reliability and lower maintenance costs, and look and fel premium enough!
Not substantial amount of torque?? The CX-5 has 310 ft-lb at just 2k rpm (regardless high or low octane gas). That's a lot more than others in the class.
Lots of Mazda fanboys here...... I own both CX5 (2017) & Volvo S60 .Enjoy the Mazda for its daily drive & practicality ,love the Volvo for its svelte drive long distance 40km or more & safety.Volvo has a 5 year motorplan ie: you only pay for change of tyres & fuel. Mazda just cost me a small fortune for brakepads front & back (mileage under 35000km )& 4 tyres ....Cannot wait to buy the new XC40..PLUS all the quirks ....
You are right that Mazda has better reliability overall than Volvo. (Consumer Reports, JD Power and more). For example, JD Power says that there are 144 problems per 100 Mazdas vs 162 per 100 Volvos (all after 3 years of ownership). This is not insignificant, but neither score is that incredible here or even really that different from each other. Anecdotal stories of how well your specific car did is not important because it is not statistically significant. Even Lexus, the most reliable brand, makes a couple lemons. But they are still the most reliable brand.
@@keltonjohnson6197 i wouldn't compare apples to oranges - that's consumer reports. There are issues you can live with and there are serious tech issues... Consumer reports just gives you a number per 100 cars....
Hey all ! I did the whole debate and spent months toiling over which one while waiting for my ordered Volvo to arrive. I did end up going with the volvo because the electronic safety features actually work damn near every time with lane monitoring and awareness and stopping. Also, they completely forgot to mention the the XC40 has adjustable steering weight.
Good choice, had my fully loaded XC40 for 7 months now and the comfortable seats, array of safety features and 360 camera make it easily the best vehicle I've ever owned. I feel like I'm driving a premium vehicle inside and out.
Volvo practically invented Autobrake systems, and did invent the Blind Spot System and more- naturally it's going to work more efficiently. Reviewers are very rarely taught how to use their cars by professionals- like they'd jump out of a skydiving jet without a quick tutorial first, "Yeah I know how to use a parachute, I watched a youtube video once". Voice Control, Steering settings, Individual Drive mode, Polestar Tuning- and so much more was left out that would have made a difference on their opinions.
They tried different steering weights and weren't happy with any of them. It's OK. I think Volvo should improve the steering. There's always room for improvement with any car.
I own the XC40 and I couldn't be happier. The car is so fun to drive, it whispers to me from the garage..."hey, you're running low on milk, let's go for a drive" hahaha. I haven't driven the CX-5, but I doubt that I'll be happier with it than the XC40. Test drive one. You might be surprised.
I'll take the 5 for the lesser price and the Simplicity of the interior. Wish Mazda would do a panoramic sunroof though. I love Volvo's but again Mazda punches away above its class.
I like the CX5 far better, but I am kind of biased toward Mazda to be honest. Happy New Year! Keep up the great videos in 2019. You guys are killing it.
Most ppl complain about the center screen in the Volvo (All new models.) takes away attention from the road. They got the car all wrong. Most of the daily stuff, you're supposed to do with voice command. You never have to look away from the road. The stuff "you do have to set" in the center screen are things you set once. And... There are 3 main screens, It sounds on most ppl like they have a book to go through. You got the center screen with the 4 big boxes, from there you can swipe left and right once! There are no more pages. If you're cold? Press the voice command button, and say "I'm cold". And temp setting goes up one degree. (Or say "set temp to XX degrees" and the car makes it so!) Never loose eye contact with the road. To futuristic for some I suppose? ;)
Even without voice, TWO whole taps at the bottom of the screen to change your temperature? The climate is ALWAYS at the bottom- and it takes me as much time in a Volvo to change the temp as it does in my Volkswagen- where I turn the climate- then choose my balance of feet/body airflow and the air speed itself. Three separate knobs that I turn, briefly looking at each to make sure I don't overdo it- as opposed to two-three quick taps on a screen. Different at first? Of course. More distracting? We're really splitting hairs.
New volvo have a lot of issue with software and engine problem. Reliability is not what it was. In the 80-90 yes a 5 cylinder Volvo was a tank, but that was the good old days. Mazda for me.
What I like about CX-5, it actually doesn't look, or feel as a "compact crossover". It actually looks bigger and more mature, so every time you say "compact" I'm like "is it?" Nice review btw!
I can't believe these cars are comparable. I admire Mazda, I like Mazda, their design looks just right and how they describe the comfort of Mazda to be better over the Volvo. But I just love the XC40, I would choose it any time. I would spend that extra cash just to have that technology.
Volvo is such a nice looking SUV and the interior ambience/materials makes it worth spending that extra., but for longer ownership, maintenance, service issues yet still retaining a bodywork that looks fantastic and very good, sound interior I'd go with the Mazda CX-5.
The fact the CX-5 even can be compared to the Volvo, is great. But when you buy a Volvo you also get premium features like Harmon/Kardon sound, class setting and leading safety, and more advanced tech than the Mazda. But if that doesn't really matter to you I'd go with the Mazda (This coming from an 2020 XC40 T5 Momentum owner who previously owned a 2019 Mazda Cx5 Signature)!
My wife drives the 2016 CX-5 GT. I love the handling in that thing and it has not had a single problem for 3 years. I was to buy one for my daily but it begged for more power especially when accelerating from a stop. Now I am going to buy the signature without thinking twice. I wouldn’t look at that thing called Volvo. Nothing but Mazda.
I have a 2016 CX 5 GT and I love it also. You are absolutely right it could use much more power, so I was anxious to drive the 2019 CX 5 turbo and I was expecting a thrilling ride, boy was I disappointed! I was really not convinced that the car I was driving was the turbo model and the ride was soft and heavy. :( I think Mazda wanted to make a car that feels more "mainstream" like a Rav 4. I am sticking with my 2016 CX 5. I will try out the 2019 3 hatchback with all wheel drive and the new X engine, they say it makes a lot of torque
I have 2016.5 Sport (stripped down, base model) and you know what? Power seems adequate especially off the line. The car feels quick. I bet it’s significantly faster than your loaded GTs with those honking 19” rims. Where it does lack is at higher speeds like a diesel does
I went with the 2019 Volvo CX40 after putting a down payment on the 2019 Mazda CX5 Signature...not crazy about the infotainment interface on the Volvo and was fearful of the Mazda no touch screen....both great cars, you can't go wrong.
Hey guys! Could you do a Mazda CX-5 Turbo VS Audi Q5 VS Lexus NX VS Acura RDX? I feel the new CX-5 Signature could go head to head against those 3 vehicles yet the price is definitely lower. Would be cool to see how those 4 SUV's stack up against each other.
The huge price difference comes down to the fact that it's the R-Design trim of the XC40. Compare the XC40 T5 AWD with the Turbo CX5 and that price difference comes down to only $500 USD after destination!! Mazda needs to cut this price by at least $2-3k IMO.
Voice from the future: 2020 AWD T5 Momentum loses leather seats. Now an $1100 option. And don’t forget, standard on Mazda’s top 3 trims, lowest is $31. Also std on Signature and Grand Touring Reserve: heated AND cooled leather, premium sound (Bose), moon roof ( not panoramic), blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise. These all require optioning up the Volvo. The moon roof is nice on the Volvo, but a $1400 option on the Momentum. So yes, the T5 Momentum STARTS around $36-$37, but the one you WANT is $43-$45. I’ve driven them both this week (replacing a GTI) and will go with a CX5. It will likely be re designed for 2021 or 2022. Yes, some of the infotainment and such needs updating, but as someone else commented, that there even is a comparison video of these two vehicles says A LOT for the Mazda. I’ll search for a ‘Hyundai Elantra vs Audi A3’ video, but I doubt I’ll find one. There are several comparisons on TH-cam of Mazda vehicles with luxury brands besides this one. Cheers
lol its' not nicer. my wife has a Cx-5. it's not even close when it comes to the actual quality of the machinery and safety... the Volvo is made so much better. the Cx-5 has way more road noise, not nearly as safe, and not nearly as well made
@@bringingbackgb i understand that, but the difference in detail and quality is substantial between a European made vehicle and a Japanese made vehicle.
@@bringingbackgb I respect that, but most European cars people think of are German (Audi, Porsche, VW, etc...), these are Swedish, by a company that designed the roads in Sweden, and have invented almost all of the safety features used in vehicles today. They dont patent it because they want all cars to be safe, but they invent the 3 point seat belt we use today, the rear facing carseats, collision avoidance, well almost all of them really. They were originally an iron company, which is why they use the iron symbol as their logo... 40% of their frame is made with Boron Steel, one of the hardest steels manufactured in the world... there are volvos with over a million miles on it that can still run. That's a fact. Volvos are extremely well made, extremely reliable, and extremely solid. Its safety is utterly unparalleled. No one has died in the new Xc90 since its inception in 2016. They worked with orthopedic surgeons for 7 years to make the seats as ergonomically comfortable, good for your spine, and as safe as possible. When I say quality, I mean every aspect possible. Is the Mazda Cx-5 a wonderful, great vehicle for the money? ABSOLUTELY. But make no mistake, there are tangible, valid reasons why they Xc40 is more. By the way, they start in the low 30's... so it's not like they are stupid expensive.
@@bringingbackgb honestly I think Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Lexus, Range Rover, Jaguar are all over priced and not made to the same standard. To me I value Volvo because how much detail and work they put into safety and comfort, plus they look great and drive great too. Very comfortable drive with plenty of power as a supercharged 4 cylinder, so you get decent gas mileage.. and the quality and care they put into it is awesome. They have a team that goes and investigates the details of every single totalled volvo accident to determine what worked and what they can improve. Plus so much is standard, on the 40 you get apple CarPlay, android auto, back up camera, lane assist, collision avoidance, and 3 years of free maintenance, and more, all base. On the xc90 you also get pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, blind spot with steer assist, auto dimming mirrors, homelink, 4 years of VolvoOnCall... I mean that's all standard on a base 3 row luxury SUV for $53k+... on a vehicle that has never had a fatality and is the most awarded SUV of the century. the value is there.
@@bringingbackgb I agree with what you have to say. What I think is that, are they quite as reliable as the older ones? I'm not as sure. But I do know that they are safer and nicer now. They look good and drive well, and they'll typically last as long if not longer as most decent brands. People always kept their cars for 6+ years in the 70s-early 200ps cuz they weren't that different. What is the difference between a 95 and a 2005? CD player and mor airbags? Now think of a 2005 to a 2015? HUGE difference. And even the 2015 to 2020 GIANT DIFFERENCE. So keeping your car a long time isnt as relative today. You get 3 years of free maintenance, 4 year 50k mile warranty.. if you get a certified preowned you get 5 year unlimited mile warranty that is extendable by another 5 years... pay it off, trade it in, or lease it.
The Volvo feels very substantial. To me, that is what makes it feel more premium. Mazda is well built and tight but considerably less substantial feeling.
Great review, guys! As an XC40 owner I definitely agree with you on the lack of steering feedback and the slightly off engine note. But that aside it’s a great ride. It’s also worth noting that sunroof is a $1700 option so adding that to the CX5 would close the price gap some. I’ve also got a M2C so it’s awesome to see you guys reviewing some the cars in my garage.
Ironically the CX-5 has more of a premium look than this XC40. I'd take a 2019 V60 wagon over anything Mazda offers...but definitely not this XC40, it just looks dorky.
This is because reviewrs did not study the car features. Nearly all what you want from the controls are 3xcuted but just voice commands. It is that simple. No need to touch the screen at all
It truly pains me to watch the reviewer struggle to pull down the settings tab at the top. Every. Single. Smartphone.Works. Exactly. The. Same. You pull down at the top for flashlight, settings and more. In the volvo you either tap the tip-top or pull down in the same fashion as you do in an Apple or Android. With either system you have to learn where things are in the menus and either use a knob or touch screen to locate and use them. Touch screens where any option is 2 swipes away MAX and 2-3 taps away are far more intuitive (because we all have smartphones that work the same way) than a scrollwheel menu system. Both systems require less visual focus as you become used to them- but Volvo goes out of their way to teach you to use the Voice Control as opposed to the touch screen while driving. "set climate 68" "Play 103.7 FM" "Go To 200 Main St, New York" "Call Donna" "Seat heat on" "Raise Fan speed" EZPZ
I have the same infotainment system in my Volvo and you get used to it, it's really not hard to use. Not perfect (I'm talking to you, tiny little android auto maps screen!), but still a good system
Lol, right on. Submariner and cx-5t, in 5 yrs Sub be still worth close to 10k and the hulk version 116610LV will actually sell for more in 5-10 yrs. Volvo in 5 yrs will be worth roughly about half, but Mazda definitely needs the 8 speed still good value and lower depreciation that Volvo.
Late to the show here. Previous car was a Mazda and loved it - owned it for over 10 years! Recently bought the XC-40 and just love how comfortable the ride is. Watching the video, the comment on sophistication about the Volvo is spot on. I managed to purchase the XC40 for about the same price as a Mazda CX-5 Signature. Keep in mind the Mazda CX5 Signature w/ the 250 turbo is not $10K cheaper than the Volvo (Momentum is about $33K). So, the question you might want to ask yourself is which you car you want for the same price. Honestly, either car is great choice. We'll see if the Volvo can last the same amount of time.
@4:01 The Mazda emblem was twinkling different colours. I see them doing that as they pass me in oncoming traffic, but I can find no mention of it anywhere on the internet.
Great comprehensive comparison of the two vehicles guys! I think it’s super easy win for us to choose the CX5 because at the end of the day Volvo’s SUVs are trying to woo a person who wants to drive a Mazda, their target market is entirely different. It’s especially evident in the interior quality and their driving and steering feel (or lack there of). The Volvo market is the tier 1 luxury buyer who wants nothing less than a European brand so that they can hide in the trunk to wake neighbors up about flexing their new Volvo and don’t mind spending 10k extra for a brand/prestige/pedigree. At close to 40k this turbo CX-5 is trying to steal the “value-conscious” from second tier luxury SUVs like the Buick Essence AWD Turbo SIDI, Acura RDX SH-AWD, Infiniti QX50, and Lincoln MXC; all of which won’t actually set the buyer back $10k more when equipped with their respective AWD trims and turbo four cylinder engines. (I was genuinely surprised how many there where in this segment that cost the same as this Mazda while having comparable engine specs with close HP, marginally less torque but usually hitting peak at lower rpm) Nice intro too!
I tried the Volvo XC40 T5 trim (top trim using same engine as the model you tested) in Thailand 4 months ago and it had 3 settings for how much firmness you wanted from the steering. Soft, medium and firm. This setting can be adjusted on the settings on the display. panel.....I am not sure if this function is available for all models, but worth a try to try to change this setting if you buy/test the XC40. The steering was still a bit soft even in the firm setting though....
@@flyinghigh2178 No bro, XC60 was last year's winner. This year it's the XC40. www.google.com/amp/s/www.motoringresearch.com/car-news/volvo-xc40-car-of-the-year-japan-2018-2019/amp/
I have owned many Volvo’s and have a mazda now. No complaints about a mazda but if I had a choice. I would definitely choose a Volvo over most anything.
If you pair your phone to the car with bluetooth ....scroll connectivity to find the ''touchscreen active in motion ''....fulltime touch screen in the Mazda.
Great vid guys. Have to take the Mazda but it really comes down to price. I think the Volvo is a poor value especially to properly option it out. If they had more standard equipment and a slightly better msrp it’d be a homerun.
Peder Hansen not based on the model used in the comparison. Based on the spec and options of the XC40 they used it would be $45,685 usd, and $38,480 usd for the Mazda. Plus the Mazda was the highest trim level with all packages included, whereas the Volvo has another level up (the inscription) and required several different packages and options. The XC40 is an excellent vehicle but in terms of value I don’t think it can’t beat the CX-5.
The Inscription and R-Design are both top of the line trims- one does not have a step up on the other- one is a sport upgrade and the other is a Posh upgrade. Neither are necessary for technology although they do include some package features of the Momentum trim as standard, IE Moonroof, soundsystem, BLIS, Keyless, etc. Taking a base AWD XC40 at 33K and adding 3-4k in the tech packages for $38K you're very well equipped and safe. Even the base Momentum has Carplay, Autobrake w/ Large Animal/Pedestrian/Bike detection, Lane Keeping aide, Backup Camera, RunOffRoadProtection, Touchscreen, Remote Start thru App, Key Fob, and more.
Boys. The big change for the CX-5 this year is the Turbo engine with 125 more torques. Considering it only had 185 last year, that is an enormous increase. Where is the video showing off-the-line acceleration to 60 mph? Even if it's not instrumented, we can pull out our iPhones and time it. Got it that the sound isn't fantastic, but let's get a least a little bit of relative performance analytics compared to the NA engine.
You’re absolutely right. Little bit of an omission on our part. But hypothetically, if one were to put these cars in line with each other (which we wouldn’t) and test their acceleration (which we didn’t) then you’d find that they are entirely neck and neck all the way to 60 (if we did that, which aforementioned ergo concordantly, we didn’t). Which is not something that can be said for the old engine in the cx5. It makes the current cx3 look like the little snail that it is. But...we definitely didn’t do that.
IMHO - I'd rather be driving the Volvo, that's because I just love their solid and heavy feel, plus if I ever were in an accident, I can rest assured the outcome would be much better in the Volvo. Not to say Mazda's aren't good and safe cars, but just not as premium and solid as a Volvo.
Peder Hansen well funny you say that Peder; there are people who crash both. People like NCAP and IHS all over the world with equipment worth millions to ascertain exactly that! Amazing!! I prefer European cars any day and I agree they do tend to “feel” more solid in a tactile way than Japanese or American cars, but it no longer correlates with safety. The current generation of Mazda vehicles crash every bit as safely on balance as the best Europeans, as do many Japanese cars. Subarus seem particularly impact resistant.
@Peder Hansen yea when people mention some cars that are safer then volvo and then refer to IHS and NCAP they forget NCAP and IHS weight the scores less on actual crashing and more on preventive measures.. in an actual head on collision at speed between CX-5 and a XC40 im taking the volvo..period cuz i know i will live, where as in CX-5 im probably going to get killed by the volvo entering the cabin space
Nice piece on comparing these cars. Probably should have said something regarding reliability and maintenance costs. Seems Volvos are always on the bottom of reliability rankings researched by many different sources.
Great review and perfect timing. I'm trying to decide between these two; my gut is saying Mazda due to the value and options but, the additional tech features on the Volvo are really nice. After a long test drive, I wasn't too happy with with the lane keep assist on the Mazda, the system allowed more lane creep with little to no course adjustment.

First off it's "R-design" trim
And the prices are for similar features, which the Volvo has to be optioned to get to a similar level.
The price you quote of $36k is for a non turbo fwd car. The equivalent Mazda in middle trim Touring would only be $26k and still be better equipped. The reviewers actually doing Volvo a favor, they used the top of the line Mazda trim and only the medium trim for the Volvo

My wife has a 2017 cx-5 GT. I really like it but have always thought it was a bit under-powered for my tastes. This new engines solves that one flaw. It's definitely best in class.
Just got my CX-5 and am totally in love with it. The interior rivals any car in it's class.
What class do you think it’s in? Honda Pilot, Toyota RAV4, or Nissan Rogue class? Or higher up? I think it’s better than all of those in terms of interior, no competition. If that’s the class you’re putting it in.
I just ordered the Cx 5 - its such a great car. Just book a testdrive :)
I own a CX-5 Signature and the engine sounds just fine.
I just got a CX-5 and I love it. It's not the signature though. Still, it has a great safety rating and the handling of the Mazda is fantastic. So much fun.
I’ve just bought a 2019 CX5, didn’t spring for the turbo but still very impressed with the cars handling.

That's a lot more than others in the class.
higher gearing and weight probably make it feel like there is less torque than there is would be my guess.
Yeah it’s still a 6-speed auto

Lots of Mazda fanboys here...... I own both CX5 (2017) & Volvo S60 .Enjoy the Mazda for its daily drive & practicality ,love the Volvo for its svelte drive long distance 40km or more & safety.Volvo has a 5 year motorplan ie: you only pay for change of tyres & fuel. Mazda just cost me a small fortune for brakepads front & back (mileage under 35000km )& 4 tyres ....Cannot wait to buy the new XC40..PLUS all the quirks ....
Heads up display on CX5 is great with nav.
Yeah it's a damn shame this is the first Volvo that doesn't get heads up display- it's best in the industry on all the other Volvo's.
plus the seats ventilation
10 thousand less and much better reliability.... I will choose the Mazda all day long! I leased a Volvo before nothing but problems!
I was going to post almost the exact comment! Mazda over Volvo:no brainer!
I have a 2006 XC90 AWD,. No repairs for 6 years now. My wife has a 2015.5 XC60, that has NEVER had a problem.
@@777Outrigger those Volvo's are totally different beasts mate, the new ones are trash.
$ wise

(Or say "set temp to XX degrees" and the car makes it so!)
Never loose eye contact with the road.
I still dont understand why you arent the biggest car channel on youtube! Thanks guys keep it up! Cheers from Colombia!
Mazda is in the top three of most reliable vehicles and has recently beat Volvo out of the safest vehicle category.
Is that without considering the rotories? If it is, that is incredible.
Personally I think the styling of Mazdas is great. All the Honda's and Toyotas all look like transformers which I think will age poorly.

Volvo for life. Very reliable and would outlast most vehicles on the market.
The new ones have kinda complex drivetrains though... I'm a bit hesitant
New volvo have a lot of issue with software and engine problem. Reliability is not what it was. In the 80-90 yes a 5 cylinder Volvo was a tank, but that was the good old days. Mazda for me.
Sadly not anymore
A Mazda will outlast any Volvo, Japanese cars are the most reliable and well built on the market.
that 2.5 on the mazda is an AWESOME engine... 310 torques WOW!
What I like about CX-5, it actually doesn't look, or feel as a "compact crossover". It actually looks bigger and more mature, so every time you say "compact" I'm like "is it?"
Nice review btw!
I can't believe these cars are comparable. I admire Mazda, I like Mazda, their design looks just right and how they describe the comfort of Mazda to be better over the Volvo. But I just love the XC40, I would choose it any time. I would spend that extra cash just to have that technology.
I'd save 10 grand and go for the Mazda. European cars have maintenance issues.
Where it does lack is at higher speeds like a diesel does
I went with the 2019 Volvo CX40 after putting a down payment on the 2019 Mazda CX5 Signature...not crazy about the infotainment interface on the Volvo and was fearful of the Mazda no touch screen....both great cars, you can't go wrong.
mazda has touch screen. i own 2020 cx5
Cheers
I'll take mazda cockpit instrumentation and controls over volvo, every time

Nah, not paying $10k more when the CX-5 is nicer inside and out, and more powerful.
lol its' not nicer. my wife has a Cx-5. it's not even close when it comes to the actual quality of the machinery and safety... the Volvo is made so much better. the Cx-5 has way more road noise, not nearly as safe, and not nearly as well made
@@bringingbackgb i understand that, but the difference in detail and quality is substantial between a European made vehicle and a Japanese made vehicle.

I'd take the V60 over anything else both these brands offer. Especially dorky small SUVs.

I personally thought the CX-5 had a great engine sound , smooth revs up with some nice exhaust notes .
I don't mind the sound in either one. I'm not that much into engine sounds like some others are.
The Volvo's controls are too complicated to use easily while driving. Give me a simple interior like the Mazda's any day.
Hi Grandpa take the bus.

(I was genuinely surprised how many there where in this segment that cost the same as this Mazda while having comparable engine specs with close HP, marginally less torque but usually hitting peak at lower rpm)
Nice intro too!
I love these intros. ♥️♥️♥️ I hit the bell. 😫😫😫
Wooo welcome!
I've never gotten in my 15 cx5 and thought, this needs more power.

Another fantastic comparison review ! You're honing your acting chops too LOL, nice intro hahaha.

Thanks, just bought the XC40! Got enough of a discount off of it it could be justified.
Why am I the only one noticing that at ~10 minutes, the screen he's cleaning says "send nudes" hahaha. Loved the video guys!
Lol 😂. The intro was so funny..😂
Mazda is rated #1 in safety now. We passed Volvo last year. Keep up.
Rob G In your dreams! Volvo is no 1 & Simply the Best! No 1 in Safety!
@@flyinghigh2178 mazda doesn't use boron steel but volvo does. Boron steel is the strongest steel known to man. The Volvo is safer
Really enjoyable video to watch. Great personalities. Helpful since I have been eyeing both cars. Thanks!
Nice piece on comparing these cars. Probably should have said something regarding reliability and maintenance costs. Seems Volvos are always on the bottom of reliability rankings researched by many different sources.
Hard to say anything about reliability considering the cars we were in were both brand new. Time will tell!
would love to see the base macan, Q5, and RDX added to this.
Great job.
@Угон Харлеев ok
If you cannot keep the car in between the lanes then it maybe time to stop driving.
I love the hilarious intros and the in depth reviews from actual car enthusiasts who know cars at their limit. That said, I miss the wrenching and track videos (I know TMP is closed for the season) any plans for your track toy to be back in videos? Reviews get old after a while, but you guys do a darn good job of them. You and Savage Geese, top shelf
Track toys will make an appearance wether or not it’s on TH-cam, Facebook video or Instagram. Car reviews are the mainstay of TH content now but I want to make other track stuff as well. Keep any eye on other social channels for stuff in the the summer time.
@Throttle House look at how far yall came lol
