the 335i is for car enthusiasts. its for people who love cars and appreciate them. 335i is for the people who wake up in the morning and check there oil and inspect there tires before taking off. its not for your usual everyday joe who just wants a quick car to get around. its a drivers car. its not for the people who just want to put in gas, turn the key and take off. buy a lexus for that. ive owned bmw before. if u take care of them. they take care of you. what people dont understand untill they own a bmw is that therea no other car for the price that handles and grips the road so hard. idc what car u might name, g35 is350 c300. it doesn't matter. bmw shits on all of them.
ik im 2 years late but this is true. i have been a bmw fanboy for a while but i just dont have the skill/money to maintain one yet, so i settled for a nissan 370z. when i graduate college though, a beamer WILL be mine
Man, if somebody doesn't have the time to do something as quick and simple as an oil/filter change, could I suggest a re-evaluation of your lifestyle balance? Like you, I've found that working on your own BMW forces you to learn so much more about your car than you would do otherwise. I would totally endorse what you are saying in this excellent video.
good tips. one thing that annoys me about German cars is they need special tools. bmw spark plugs need a special socket. oil filter cap needed a wrench. it's not too expensive but just annoying. my vw needed triple squares to work on suspension. i do my own diy when i can as well.
BMW Fanatic Well I was thinking, next time you change your oil, show us. Next time you replace a spark plug or something, demonstrate. Next time you align your wheels, record it. Thank you, ofcourse I am already subscribed and will continue watching your videos. Plus I have told my friends about your channel!
+kevin p I have an oil change one on the channel, but yeah spark plug one coming soon! I have a few other ones too, so I'll add those as well 😀. Thanks for watching and telling your friends!
First this you look for before buying any 335 is make sure it has a factory oil cooler.... its behind the front bumper on the passenger side front wheel, you will see a vent grill, under the hood, right side of motor, oil filter housing, look for 2 hoses coming off it. If you don't have this on the car its $1000 after market upgrade,in parts, (labor if your not able to DIY) if you wanna tune the car to see its real potential.
Wanted to mention it as I am going through the issue now, made the mistake of getting a great 335xi with really low KM, Did a Dinan S2 which is great, so much fun, yet the car is not really track ready as oil temps, ( Stage 2 Dinan is OK to run with out oil cooler as long as your not tracking the car or running it hard daily) i got the parts ready to go to set up for stage 3 tune. over all its about $2K that i have to spend extra, hope this info save other from having to to the same.. Also get a oil thermostat bypass plate if you wanna have real fun. Spend the money and enjoy the car fully
going to buy a 335i soon. will have $1000 on top just for preventative maintenance. I plan on buying it and taking it straight to indy who is friend of mine. what should I spend it on?
Jenifer Collazos Sounds good! Have a pre-Inspection done on the car first before you even think about buying it. Then you will know what all it needs. If it doesn't really need much, then do plugs and all new coil packs since those play a big role and how well the car runs overall. If you have more questions - just message me on Instagram! BankerLee335i 👍🏻
the truth is that you can't abuse a 328i 335i etc. if you want to abuse a BMW get a M3. I had owned BMW for the past 20 yrs and they are great cars if you don't abuse them. normal driving is highly recommended, my 335 it's 170k miles now and still in great condition, haven't done anything to the car, ANYTHING other than regular maintenance
Nicolas Palma Amuz I'm 17, planning on getting a manual 2007 335i with 73k on it for 5k with a salvage title. You said you've had your BMW up to 170k with no problems. What are some of the regular maintenance you did on the car and how often? I'm still in high school and don't have much money to spend on it. I do have time. Would you recommend?
3Revs no offense but I see a lot wrong with that. You're screwed if you wreck it because you can't insure it, maintenance is a decent amount if u don't do it yourself, parts are expensive, pre 09' e90 335's are infamous for having turbo rattle. I'd say for 5k if you find a BMW w about 100k miles, then the parts that usually break have been replaced and it'll be cheaper w higher miles.
Just get a fuel efficient, reliable car for your first car dude... Save up money and if you REALLY REALLY want a BMW, put in some MORE money for one that doesn't have a salvage title, and from a dealership. If you are buying a 2007 335i for $5,000 you better be prepared to pay AT LEAST double that in a year just for repairs/maintenance/fuel... If it costs only $5,000 there is a VERY GOOD REASON for that, and it's not because they are feeling generous ill tell you that. (I'm 23 years old, and have been looking to buy a 335i since I was 17. Patience payed off since now I have enough money to buy in cash but not planning on it. MUST keep money available for repairs/maintenance for a BMW) I'm planning on buying a 335i myself, but a model after 2010. not settling for independent seller even if it's someone I know because that's just setting yourself up for unknown wear/damages that you will have to fix/pay yourself. Nothing under $10,000, and definitely no salvage title, unless I hear the whole story behind it and know it's not a big worry. You don't want to buy your "Dream car" only to have to sell it before the year end due to everything breaking. Better SAFE than SORRY
@@aspah12450 agreed! I'm selling mine. 2011 335i with Performance Edition increased hp and torque. Navigation, leather, Metallic gray with red/burgundy interior. Let me know if you're interested.
I've had a 2007 e92 335i w/ the N54 motor - water pump & fuel injectors had to be replaced. Moved on to an e90 355i w/ the N55 motor. 25k miles - no problems as of yet :D
if you have an andriod, instead of buying a scan tool you can buy an OBD cable and the USB adapter and use the MHD tuner app to view all the codes in detail.
Yeah, MHD is a good alternative to read just the codes in more detail. A BMW scan tool would benefit by doing just that and by data logging each of the parameters to trace back the current or upcoming issue.
+DigitalKi11er911 I've used it on other friends cars, just not mine. JB4 G5 ISO user here for 3 years and tuned for 52k miles, no issues. I thought about doing a MHD back end flash to pair it with the JB4, but not 100% sure if or when I will. It's hard to "switch" things up tune wise when the car hasn't had any "tuner issues", ya know lol
+BMW Fanatic ive seen people intergrate their jb4 with the MHD tunes but are there actual benefits to doing this? because from what i understand i can prodice the same power without the JB4 and just the back end flash and the tunes on MHD. Do you think im better of with just MHD so i dont have to spend the extra 400 on the jb4?
+DigitalKi11er911 pairing MHD with the JB4 just makes the JB4 work even better as a tune. A back end flash would be needed for me if I'm running more than a e40 mix. MHD just alone is fine and great for the price. The only thing is that you're flashing your stock DME and overwriting it with the MHD. Many people do this all the time, no issues, but I'm just old school with the JB4 since I've had prior to MHD even coming out and I'm making great power with it. The jb4 is a piggy back, which alters the stock DME to do everything. The safety features and all the other features of the jb4 are great though! MHD is somewhat new, so it's good you're doing your research. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either! Just decide on what you would like to do and what you feel comfortable doing 😀. It's always good to do fresh plugs and coils prior to the tune since the tune will be pushing those parts more than stock and will bring the weakness out of them.
Agree with you 100 percent. You have to be well off or mechanically inclined to own these cars past the warranty. They are a money pit.... water pump, injectors, HPFP, cam ledge, cam sensors, waste gate rattle, boost leaks, oil filter housing gasket, Valve cover gasket oil leaks, Oil pan gasket leaks, cracks on the composite plastic partsof the cooling system as it ages... thats just the main issues. Preventative maintenance is a must. Luckily I do the work myself. A jb4 ,meth and Rb turbos makes the 335i worth every headache and penny.
I think keeping up with maintenance and NOT following the minimal BMW provided maintenance makes a huge difference in little problems that could add up. Perfect example, I've changed my oil 3 times since I bought the car at 33k miles til now (53k miles) instead of the BMW every 15k. I also have been anticipating needing to change my plugs for the last 5k miles and just heard my first 'miss'--so I'm going to change the plugs before the winter. BMW recommends either 60k or 80k for plugs, I cant remember which. I'll also change my oil again before the winter, and I also would like to change the differential and trans fluids. I havent had one problem in the first year of owning my 2013 335i xdrive.
Yep, totally agree! I've been doing the exact same. For the N54/N54 engine, plugs are 45k miles of stock and 15-20kish if tuned. I do my oil every 4,500k miles. It's cheap insurance to keep up on all those things and do them sooner than suggested 😀
I have an 08 and love the feeling I paid 1/4 of the price the new 340i beside me on the freeway. It is true that the more you can work on yourself the better. And sticking with OEM or OEM certified parts.
BMW Fanatic thank God for the amount of support forums and how to youtube videos. I fixed my VANOS seals for $70 in a few hours compared to $900+ at a shop.
Good video overall. I agree that the average buyer (not wealthy) really should have some DIY skills to make them affordable. I have an 06, 330I that I have done 215,000 miles on and have done a little bit of everything. Love the car but it takes care and feeding more than say a Honda. I think anyone can to the maintenance, its perhaps one of the easiest cars to maintain out there. I agree on the scanner, mine has saved me several visits to the dealer over the years. You should know that there is a law that limits how much of your warranty that a dealer can void as a result of a modification. For instance if you do a engine mod they cannot deny an airbag warranty repair. They have the burden of proof that your modification created the issue. For that reason modifications should be done cautiously. For those folks considering a BMW you need to know that they are not like an Accord or Camry your BMW will have issues, thats just the cost of admission for a great driving german car but if you can get past that you will love your car. I am now waiting on my 2017 M2 to be built Labor Day week so I love the brand, can't imagine driving anything else.
Yep, the dealer shouldn't deny you for a mod that isn't related to it it. The problem that I've seen is that not all dealers follow this and then you as a consumer have to keep up on law/BMW policies to ensure you get taken care of as you should!
I bought a used 2011 335 with 9 k miles certified - water pump died at 25k miles thankfully warranty covered it all but odd- they donhave a weak electric water pump apparently fail around60k miles
I am considering an 08 335xi sedan with 83k miles for 10,200 USD and the guy has service history and has the Fuel pump done at BMW under warranty recently. But him being a 3rd owner of the vehicle worries me. I need to make a decision in two days, I have two options. One is mentioned above and the second is also an 08 with 68k miles for 12,000 USD and the owner said he will check for more service history and that he needs to long in to his account. Both these cars dont have Idrive and the display which i dont really care for to be honest, i will add aftermarket in stereo later on as BMW sound systems are not that great in my opinion. Also Idrive 335i's cost alot more in my area (Calgary, Canada). I really hope for some feedback as I always wanted to buy this car but walked away due to problems and what people always told me about turbos going bad and costing 4grand. Not a complete noob when it comes to being mechanically inclined, can do small things like spark plugs and ignition coils myself and willing to learn if thats what it takes to own this amazing car.
expect to diy belts, water pump, ignition coil, spark plugs, o2 sensors if needed, and then there always seems to be a weird electrical problem, my e36 had a fried convertible module and my friend had there window module fry. this 335i i own has a seat probelm, faulty wire, $3 for parts, requires specialty tool but my shop loves my car so i can borrow there tool. its all about who you know with the new cars.
I went fbo as soon as I got the car. I already had all the parts at home waiting before I even got the car. bought a 335i @ only 60k kms 40k kms later everything died. hpfp, water pump, belt, o2 sensors & injectors. basically everything detrimental to the car. so depressed. learnt the hard way. will never get an n54 ever again. life lesson to be learnt
Might I ask you? I have an 06 325xi wagon and it needs a headlight lamp. You have to drop the bumper to install it. While having it open, I can exchange out the stock halogens for the dual xenon lamps with ballast. They'll purportedly keep the check engine light from coming on. Would you / your audience do this repair? Would you change out the bulbs? I am fairly handy, but certainly not a seasoned mechanic.
Just wondering why does so many people have so many problems with their BMW? Do they not take care or it or buy it in bad used condition I owned more than 2 Bmw's at a time and never had problem besides the radio speaker going out had one for about 2 years now
Big$MoneyBoss or they buy them and then take it to the dealer for all of the small things, which will cost a lot and thus drain their wallet. Then they will say these cars are money pits and too expensive"
Big$MoneyBoss I worked at a mom and pop autoshop, and you would not believe the cars we would have come through our shop, cars with no oil, metal on metal brakes, destroyed interior, bald tires, no coolant, black filters, scratched up dented cars, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Ford etc.. my point is that 90% of car owners don't give two shits about they're car they abuse them and just use it to get from point A to point B. That's why most used BMW are in bad condition or any car for that matter!! that's why they get such a bad rep, Toyota are abused too the difference is they can usually handle more abuse than BMWs.
Saw a 2011 335 with 82k on the clock at a caddy dealership amd took it for a test drive, everything was sound and all but the higher mileage kinda concerns me. True cost to own on edmunds said this car would be 4-5k in maintenance/repairs every year? If so thats insane and im hoping thats not the actual average, the car had the m sport package and all the other good stuff but im kind of concerned with the unexpected repairs side of things. I can manage a grand or two annually for stuff like that but double that im not real willing to do. Should i pay to have it inspected or look for a lower mileage one, i pulled the service history on it too and it was a lease sold as a certified pre owned at the local bmw dealer and then traded at the cadillac one, the service history showed no repairs outside of basic maintenance besides a coolant pump, which was replaced very recently. Some advice on what to do with this would be nice, i want it bad but dont want a lemon either
Grant Schneider The only way I see it becoming 4-5k is if you have a major and I mean major issue that needs fixed. That would be a one time thing and not every year if that would happen. I would say to keep on hand a 1,000 each year just in case you have something go wrong. That might not always be the case though. The last year I've only had to do oil changes and spark plugs, that's it! That's driving 20k miles a year too. Things do come up and when they do its best to have that cash on hand to fix your car. I would have it inspected by a BMW dealer or an independent shop that knows what to look for on a BMW. Best of luck!
Grant Schneider I bought mine with 93k miles and without a warranty. I now have 144k miles on it and yeah I had to fix a few things, but I did DIY on all of those things to save me on labor. The thing that makes owning bmws expensive is the labor price and not always the part it self. DIY is your friend if you're looking to save thousands each year "if you have to fix something"
BMW Fanatic Alright thanks for the tips, i havent worked on many cars outside of oil changes and spare tires, lol. So diy may be kind of difficult considering fixing these things tends to be alot more complicated than other vehicles, but i will definitely look into that. What are all the tools you should buy beforehand and whats the cost look like for all of that?
Grant Schneider Once you do one DIY, the harder ones will become easy. They're not too bad, just time consuming with taking off parts, etc. You'll need a special spark plug socket ($20), Oil change filter wrench ($20), 17mm socket for oil drain plug, E10, E20 socket. Then Torx bits T10-T50 (uses mostly these for certain pieces). Best of luck!
Better get extended warranty if you don't know how to work on cars especially German cars forget it which are different, harder to work on than Japanese or American cars which are pretty easy. For example dealer tried to charge $1600 to replace the water pump!Or you can do it your self but the electric water pump itself cost $600 at autozone save yourself $1000 if you can do it yourself.
I have until January since that's when my drivers test is what year should I stay between . I'm trying to have 0 problems , Ik how to oil change and change spark plugs
You'll never have 0 problems on a 335i. You will need to keep a reserve of money saved to buy parts/labor (if no warranty). It does help to do DIY when owning a BMW. The 335i will keep you busy (researching) if it's your first BMW.
A lot of these problems are more peeve land on the older 335i with the N54 motor. The N55 is much better. Now they have the 340 and 440. You won't have problems there.
Thomas Bailey yes, correct. More toward the N54. The N55's do have less issues overall, but still may encounter a few one offs. The B58 engine in those is a beast and completely reworked. I'm actually currently making a part 2 of this video here now to expand more on a few things out there. Stay tuned!
BMW Fanatic I have a coupe with the n54. My brother had a 09 335i sedan. That motor felt automated or electronic in how it moved up and down the rev range like it could never break.
BMW Fanatic I hope so. They seem like very fun cars. What years should I be aiming for? Also, would you know how much hp the auto tranny can withstand? Same for the AWD model. Is yours stick or auto?
ReggaeDubSoundSystem I did a part 2 of this video as well - check that out too! As for the years, if you want to stick with the N54 engine, then 2009-2010 for just the 335i. 335is would be 2011-2013 cars. Anything 2011 on would be the N55 engine and is good, just doesn't make as much HP as easy when compared to the N54 ones. I love my 2008 and it would have less problems than a 2007, but 2009 they went through a model style change and they made a lot of things that more "refreshed". It's the TQ that kills them, which is around 550TQ to the wheels and you'll start to have slipping issues (auto). As for a stick, if the clutch is stock and has some mileage on it, it could start slipping with just a tune on it. However, once you put a clutch in it, then it would handle just what you need. I'm running the auto in mine
Hey man, really appreciate your vids! I'm about to buy a 2014 335i xdrive with 21,000 miles on it. Will be running a safety check through dealership I work for (Honda). Would you still recommend additional inspections prior to purchasing? I also plan to purchase JB4, Catless Downpipe, Chargepipe, FMIC, & CAI immediately. Shall I also do plugs & coils while I'm at it? Any response is appreciated! Your channel has helped me a lot, subscribed!
stevegriffith22 if without a warranty, get a pre-inspection done. Also check with either a BMW dealer and have them run the VIN to see what certain things have been done and when (recall wise)
I currently own an e46 318 and I'm playing ping pong between an e46 330, e92 328 and e92 330. There seems to be so many faults with the e92's it's crazy and its driving more towards another e46
Do you think a 2010 BMW 335d $12,850 111,000 miles is a good choice for a sixteen yr old? On the site there states there isn't any documented accidents.
Hey Man , I am looking to buy a Manual 07-09 335i and have watched all of your very informative videos and just wanted to ask in your opinion how many miles is too much when buying a 335i ? A local BMW dealership has a 335i with 122,000 miles and it's at a great price but I am not sure if I should go with something that has less miles. I am looking to get a good 4-5 years out of this car. Thanks!
Stephen Brownell I bought mine with 93k miles and had a pre-purchase inspection done on the car. Everything checked out, so I purchased it! The car was in awesome outside body shape and had all service records. It was a great overall purchase. The car was well taken care of. I didn't buy it with a warranty and have done all maintenance things diy. At 122k, I would check over that car with a fine tooth comb. Have BMW check all records of the car, etc. 07's tend to have the majority of issues, but if the previous owner replaced all those things, then that will be a great deal for you! That's one good thing about high mileage - majority of things have been already replaced since it was new then.
Thanks man! it is an 07 so I will ask for the records and see if the common problems have been replaced and have them inspect it meantime I will look for an 08-09
Stephen Brownell perfect 👌🏻. It will all depend on the options on the car. With BMW, there are so many side options (cold weather, premium package, sport package, Msport package, etc. I use the KBB phone app and just add on all those options to see on price! It's a great price to get a good gauge on the car price.
Great videos, I was wondering could I email you a few questions I had about my 335i? I need a new dsc hydrallic pump, and some more things, wondering whats a great scan tool to use too?
Sure! Just send me a message on TH-cam. I just picked up my Bavarian Technic cable, which lets you see everything that the dealer can. I'm actually making a video about it as we speak!
I couldnt find the inbox button, but i had want to know is inpa better to code and diagnose from the one shop electronics store? And I brought my 335i (same year as yours 50k miles), and ive encountered all kind of issues. The dealer says a new hydralic unit is needed, this is the 2nd time the oil sensor needs to replaced in 4 months, rear brake pads need to be replaced, and dtml pump. I barely put 2k miles on it since I brought it in march, and wanted to hear your thoughts?
+Rob Davis INPA yes for coding, if you're experienced with writing BMW code. Were those parts replaced with BMW genuine parts? BMW has a 2yr or 24k mile warranty on all parts. I'm still on the original oil sensor. I did replace the DMTL pump, probably took and hour or so. Pads have only been changed once and they haven't been changed over 55k miles ago.
+BMW Fanatic yes. They said they will replace the oil sensor, and the hydraulic unit is covered under the extended aftermarket warranty, but they want $760 for the dmtl pump. Is that a easy fix I can do myself with a inpa cable, jacking the car up, and taking the 3 bolts from the back where it's located?
Luis Cuevas 335is has 320hp while a base 335i has 300hp. N54 is twin turbo. If you are looking into a 2011 they have the N55 which is a single twin-scroll turbo. Those get peak torque around 1200 RPMS rather than 1400. If you are going to get N54 get an 09-10 since those have the facelift and are the latest ones. (BTW 2011 335is is twin turbo)
The warranty part isn't true, dealers think they can void your warranty because of Mods but you can shove Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act down their throat. They have to prove that your mod cause the malfunction in court.
i found a 2007 335i E93 for sale and it has 220k miles, he listed it for 5k and i could prob get it for 4k, it’s manual and he said he put a new set of turbos and a new clutch and water pump, should i go for it?
Peter Phouluang All depends on condition and what the pre-purchase inspection will come back as. Since you're not the DIY'ing type, are you going to be buying an extended warranty then?
saw an 07 335xi with 158k on the dash for $6500, a lot of miles but i think to make it that far in this type of car most if the mechanical issues have been addressed or is that just wishful thinking?
Tony Dates yep! That's the way I would take it too. By then, just about everything else has already been replaced/maintained. I would still look for service records and have it checked out at an Indy shop or a BMW dealer to confirm you're good to go!
Depends on what you're looking to add, yes. Anything is possible, but it will cost you probably double in price (since you're not buying a car with it already)
Stay away from high mile N54 engine E90’s (335i) they are known to be unreliable. I have an 07 328i with the N52 engine witch is a 3.0L I6 Naturally aspirated, it has over 180k miles on the whole car. It has been in my family and only has ever had fluids, tires, suspension, clutch at 160k and spark plugs changed (they still worked but got new fresh ones) and it still is running smooth. it’s no 335i but it is definitely not slow and it will last you a while. I don’t know if it makes a difference but my car also is a manual so I’m not sure how the automatic transmissions are like. All in all If you want to be faster get a 335i and they are boosted so you can get a tune and make way more power than stock by plugging in a computer to it... it’s easy cheap power but it doesn’t have the reliability of the 325i, 328i, or 330i witch all have the n52. I hope this helps someone I made wrote this at midnight also lol.
I inherited a nearly mint condition 2007 335i with 89k on the odometer .. Took it into BMW and I wanted them to check it out and make sure it was perfect .. I dropped it off and within an hour I get a call about a gasket here and a gasket there .. Cost me 2700.00 for a days work .. I have opened the hood and said " Oh Hell No "
Tt S. N54s are meant to be abused. If people have gone up to 600 HP on stock internals and transmission (manual and auto) then how long do you think they will last with stock power?
Alright, just wanna do a quick comparison to my old truck.. I had a '99 Dodge ram 2500 with the 24 valve Cummins turbo Diesel. Over the course of owning it for about 2 years, I did a trans. rebuild ($3400), front end - including tie rods ball joints wheel bearings (~$800), front and rear brakes ($400), starter ($200), batteries ($220), and fuel system issues ($500), gauges/electrical/random shit ($500) how does this compare to a 335i or m3 or 550i, regarding repairs? Also I've done all the previous work besides the transmission myself, so I'm basically saying I'm definitely a hands on guy lol. I'm just trying to get into something different, and fun, but don't wanna kill myself financially, or be worse off than my last truck.. (thought this video had a good crowd with people with fair knowledge so decided to ask)
Wow, i was thinking about buying one because of how fast and how much fun i could have in it. Don't think i'll bother now because it really does sound like a boring car to own.
Question mr fanatic. lol...My 2008 528i has a very slight steering wheel vibration at speeds above 50..have you ever come across this issue?? Some feed back would be appreciated..thx. Joe
Youngla14 my friend had a 2012 328i he was scared to drive it cause something went wrong everytime he drove it i think its just bad luck just depends how u take care of it
With great cars come great responsibility. I have an 08 335i coupe, long story short I've spent well over 60% of the cars value in repairs. It's nice but a high maintenance bitch at times
BMW Fanatic radiator replacement, starter went bad, oil and water pumps, left headlight, control arm and bushings, all the plastic pipes in the cooling system needed replacement from degradation in the Florida heat, also I have a black car so I had oxidation issues and repainted the hood, but by far the biggest thing I had to fix was the turbos going out on me :( the turbo job itself costed me 5 grand. Never had an electrical issues though! Haha I think with these cars it's a hit or miss. Don't get me wrong I love my car to death, and I refuse to sell a car that looks like it's 30 grand for less than 10 grand lol
hello BMW fanatic im looking to buy a 2013 335i convertible Ive seen some in the $25,000 range with 40,000 mile range good deals? can you tell me about if there a problem car? anyone else have a 2013 335i convertible too that could give me some inform I would appricate it,Thank you all in advance
Alaska Alaska I always check KBB for your current location to see about pricing. It also determines on the car options and if the car needs anything done to it.
BMW Fanatic Thank you for getting back to be that was fast 👍👍 ok I spent about 4 hours watching videos on the 2013 335i convertible and most people are saying better have about $5,000 saved up due to lots of things will go wrong with it,and that it would best to buy a 328 convertible. loaded no matter what I get i definitely will buy a extended warranty
CAN YOU PLEASE SHOW US THE damn 335i instead of the shot of you in a parking lot with a kids sit in the back of the car.. you could change the camera angle would help FYI bro
EL CHAPO is here to help it could be a BMW dealer or a shop that specializes in BMW's. I would shop around a get a few quotes to see (and compare as to what all they are checking on the car as well)
I bought a 07 335I 2 years ago and it's been a bitch I replace wheel bearings speed sensor solenoids water pump power steering high pressure line the spark plugs 3 times and keep burning the sparks abs light on the auto stick doesn't work battery warning I won't recommend this NS4 engine there nice and fast but it's not fun when broke

BMW Fanatic what about one with 170k miles is it worth it or is there a lot of things that wear out at high miles?
the 335i is for car enthusiasts. its for people who love cars and appreciate them.
Eugene Abreut yep!!
Eugene Abreut True shiz ☝️
ik im 2 years late but this is true. i have been a bmw fanboy for a while but i just dont have the skill/money to maintain one yet, so i settled for a nissan 370z. when i graduate college though, a beamer WILL be mine
@@vxu3826 just turbo the 370z and beat all the bmws
Man, if somebody doesn't have the time to do something as quick and simple as an oil/filter change, could I suggest a re-evaluation of your lifestyle balance? Like you, I've found that working on your own BMW forces you to learn so much more about your car than you would do otherwise. I would totally endorse what you are saying in this excellent video.
pete b Totally agree! Have to start doing that easy stuff!
pete b Thank you 😀
Pete, I agree when I had no kids I was like that with my mustang years ago but now with family 2 kids you barely have time.
good tips. one thing that annoys me about German cars is they need special tools. bmw spark plugs need a special socket. oil filter cap needed a wrench. it's not too expensive but just annoying. my vw needed triple squares to work on suspension. i do my own diy when i can as well.
Rob Daman yep! It seemed like I was always buying a certain tool that I'll only use on the BMW lol
Good/honest breakdown, as an Owner of a 335i Convertible I'd have to totally agree with you. Thanks for great informative vids like this.
Good to hear - thanks!
can you PLEASE show us how you do your DIY work on your 335i?
I have a few simple DIY things on my channel, but what were you thinking for me to show?
BMW Fanatic Well I was thinking, next time you change your oil, show us. Next time you replace a spark plug or something, demonstrate. Next time you align your wheels, record it. Thank you, ofcourse I am already subscribed and will continue watching your videos. Plus I have told my friends about your channel!
+kevin p I have an oil change one on the channel, but yeah spark plug one coming soon! I have a few other ones too, so I'll add those as well 😀. Thanks for watching and telling your friends!
BMW Fanatic Thank you for creating your channel.
+kevin p thanks for watching!
Anarchy yeah
Currently considering a 335xi coupe. How's your xi held up in the last couple of months?
going to buy a 335i soon. will have $1000 on top just for preventative maintenance.
@@BMWFanatic are 2009 335i reliable? really considering buying in next few weeks
the truth is that you can't abuse a 328i 335i etc. if you want to abuse a BMW get a M3. I had owned BMW for the past 20 yrs and they are great cars if you don't abuse them. normal driving is highly recommended, my 335 it's 170k miles now and still in great condition, haven't done anything to the car, ANYTHING other than regular maintenance
Nicolas Palma Amuz Awesome 👍🏻
Yep, maintenance is your # 1 priority 😀
MUST keep money available for repairs/maintenance for a BMW)
I'm planning on buying a 335i myself, but a model after 2010. not settling for independent seller even if it's someone I know because that's just setting yourself up for unknown wear/damages that you will have to fix/pay yourself.
RaabsIn513 nice! Yeah a lot of 07's will run into more problems than later model year N54's. n55's though are just more overall reliable
I can add options on a used car
if you have an andriod, instead of buying a scan tool you can buy an OBD cable and the USB adapter and use the MHD tuner app to view all the codes in detail.
Yeah, MHD is a good alternative to read just the codes in more detail. A BMW scan tool would benefit by doing just that and by data logging each of the parameters to trace back the current or upcoming issue.
+BMW Fanatic i havent tried MHD yet just done some researsch, have you used it or plab to?
Kenneth Cherisol Yep!
Kenneth Cherisol My e60 5 series had an oil pan gasket leak recently, $775. Lol
Joey McMahon Jr that's a great price!
Joey McMahon Jr book time is close to 10 hours
BMW Fanatic they got it done in 8 :3
I think keeping up with maintenance and NOT following the minimal BMW provided maintenance makes a huge difference in little problems that could add up.
Erik Alvarez yes and yes!
Erik Alvarez these cars get very expensive labor wise if you pay a high end shop or dealer to do work on it
BMW Fanatic thank God for the amount of support forums and how to youtube videos. I fixed my VANOS seals for $70 in a few hours compared to $900+ at a shop.
Erik Alvarez yep you got that right!!
Erik Alvarez great job 👍🏻
Did I miss anything that was actually rated to a 335i?
I bought a used 2011 335 with 9 k miles certified - water pump died at 25k miles thankfully warranty covered it all but odd- they donhave a weak electric water pump apparently fail around60k miles
I'm on my 3rd water pump at 145k miles. My last one cracked with only 26k miles on it :(
I am considering an 08 335xi sedan with 83k miles for 10,200 USD and the guy has service history and has the Fuel pump done at BMW under warranty recently.
Faraz Shah well did you get it i would have
expect to diy belts, water pump, ignition coil, spark plugs, o2 sensors if needed, and then there always seems to be a weird electrical problem, my e36 had a fried convertible module and my friend had there window module fry. this 335i i own has a seat probelm, faulty wire, $3 for parts, requires specialty tool but my shop loves my car so i can borrow there tool. its all about who you know with the new cars.
Yep 👌🏻
I went fbo as soon as I got the car. I already had all the parts at home waiting before I even got the car. bought a 335i @ only 60k kms 40k kms later everything died. hpfp, water pump, belt, o2 sensors & injectors. basically everything detrimental to the car. so depressed. learnt the hard way. will never get an n54 ever again. life lesson to be learnt
drove it hard with heavy foot but still a car that hasn't even reached 150k kms completely fail on me 😢
whatever happened to it exactly, did it blow up?
Might I ask you? I have an 06 325xi wagon and it needs a headlight lamp. You have to drop the bumper to install it. While having it open, I can exchange out the stock halogens for the dual xenon lamps with ballast. They'll purportedly keep the check engine light from coming on. Would you / your audience do this repair? Would you change out the bulbs? I am fairly handy, but certainly not a seasoned mechanic.
It needs a lens box--the whole unit, which I have from autohaus. (Saved $380 and still oem!)
Just wondering why does so many people have so many problems with their BMW? Do they not take care or it or buy it in bad used condition I owned more than 2 Bmw's at a time and never had problem besides the radio speaker going out had one for about 2 years now
Big$MoneyBoss both! They buy poorly maintained ones that the previous owner didn't keep on it, which then gets passed to the next guy.
Oh ok thx for replying
The Finder 100% spot on
Almost bought a BMW .I'll stick with Acura my current 08 TL is perfect with 210k ....no issues ..ever . I'm buying a 2014 TL awd.
jmf s2k I had an 07 TL-Type S 6MT prior to my 335i and this car by a lot is so much better 👍🏻
Thank u I just got a 07 bmw 335i series 3
How has it been so far? Thinking of getting one in the few months
Do u think your wheels would fit my 2011 328i?
I have until January since that's when my drivers test is what year should I stay between . I'm trying to have 0 problems , Ik how to oil change and change spark plugs
You'll never have 0 problems on a 335i. You will need to keep a reserve of money saved to buy parts/labor (if no warranty). It does help to do DIY when owning a BMW. The 335i will keep you busy (researching) if it's your first BMW.
If you want less issues overall, then go with 2012+
Appreciate vid. One major thing not mention much, even for DIYer is time. Between work, kids and side business time can be money.
James M very true man, totally agree! Time is money
Thomas Bailey the 09's are still n54 though - maybe it didn't feel as raw as the pre-lci models
BMW Fanatic according to BMW it was. Who knows
Thomas Bailey yep yep
Do you thinks 335i would be good as a first car? I’m sorry about the reliability and how expensive maintenance is
+Aidan Anchaya it can get expensive, but just have to have extra money aside for repairs
Would a 328i be more reliable since it's non turbo and more fuel efficient?
Great video dude!
Haseeb Khalid thanks!
Hello, I'm thinking of getting a 335i or 335is. I was just wondering, what model bmw comes with a dual clutch transmission??
Ariano Robb 335is does
Ariano Robb also comes with a few other other added features too - great overall package and still the N54 engine 😀
About to get a 340i.. LOVE the 335i's as well.. Would have bought 335 if they still made it this year.
GertPacu Pokemon 340i, great choice!
Thanks for this!!! I've been debating on getting one.
ReggaeDubSoundSystem you'll love them 😀
BMW Fanatic I hope so.
How much horsepower can the 335i E92 N54 auto trans handle before slipping
It’s the TQ that kills it, so 550ish
I just got the same car. Love it 👍👍
Nice!
Your channel has helped me a lot, subscribed!
hey, so talk to me about major repairs on a 35 motor, trans ect. im looking for reliability issues... im a audi guy. looking for a 535 touring...
stevegriffith22 here's my ownership costs as of right now m.th-cam.com/video/NSYQPp95AnU/w-d-xo.html
stevegriffith22 if without a warranty, get a pre-inspection done. Also check with either a BMW dealer and have them run the VIN to see what certain things have been done and when (recall wise)
I currently own an e46 318 and I'm playing ping pong between an e46 330, e92 328 and e92 330. There seems to be so many faults with the e92's it's crazy and its driving more towards another e46
slabby rider what faults are you seeing with the e92's? I can chime in
Looking at two right now, one is your car, sedan e90 same color etc at 67k is this too many miles?
Do you think a 2010 BMW 335d $12,850 111,000 miles is a good choice for a sixteen yr old? On the site there states there isn't any documented accidents.
overpriced too many miles and its a diesel imo
giveawayexpress so what's a good a price for this type, the same amount of miles and year?
honestly, you better getting a 335i for 64-75k miles. for the same price. keep looking. dm if u need more advice.
Any tips on getting better at driving I only have a permit ,
Practice makes perfect, so getting out there and just driving will help get better. Anything with wheels/powered really.
Change your TH-cam name...
Stephen Brownell 08's are great and 09's are even better. They made all kinds of outside changes starting in 09.
Thanks man! it is an 07 so I will ask for the records and see if the common problems have been replaced and have them inspect it meantime I will look for an 08-09
Also what would you consider a good price for one with 80-120k miles that's clean and has good records ?
Stephen Brownell perfect 👌🏻. It will all depend on the options on the car. With BMW, there are so many side options (cold weather, premium package, sport package, Msport package, etc. I use the KBB phone app and just add on all those options to see on price! It's a great price to get a good gauge on the car price.
I heard you have to take your car to the dealership for a battery replacement. your thoughts?
Ralph Sanchez nope, I replaced mine in my garage and had the battery registered with a Bavarian Technic cable
+Rob Davis if the BMW part fails, just take the car into BMW and they will test and replace if it truly failed, for no additional cost
Do you prefer this car or the 328xi for a 16 year old
328xi to start off and get you used to caring for what it takes for a BMW. Then, once you're ready, I would then roll into a 335i shortly after that.
the 335i have the n54 to? I been looking to get one this week a lot of people tell me to get the 335is so any suggestion?
+tyltong123 Yep, very true
Yep
You can add options on a used bmw, and my dad said he was gonna get a 7 year warranty
Sounds like a plan
i found a 2007 335i E93 for sale and it has 220k miles, he listed it for 5k and i could prob get it for 4k, it’s manual and he said he put a new set of turbos and a new clutch and water pump, should i go for it?
Would you recommend a 2013 335i with 80k mikes single owner?
+Anil Samuel if it all checks out with a PPI, then yes
Hey for your insurance is it classified as a sports car?
Sebastian Morales just as a "sedan"
Okay thank you because I'm under 25 and I don't want to pay for the sports car insurance
Looking at buying a 2008 335i coupe with 57K miles for 17K. What do you think BMW Fanatic, good or bad idea? I'm not the DIY'er type.
Peter Phouluang All depends on condition and what the pre-purchase inspection will come back as. Since you're not the DIY'ing type, are you going to be buying an extended warranty then?
Yes, I will be purchasing an extended warranty! And thanks for the such speedy reply
Peter Phouluang sounds good - no problem!
saw an 07 335xi with 158k on the dash for $6500, a lot of miles but i think to make it that far in this type of car most if the mechanical issues have been addressed or is that just wishful thinking?
Tony Dates yep! That's the way I would take it too. By then, just about everything else has already been replaced/maintained. I would still look for service records and have it checked out at an Indy shop or a BMW dealer to confirm you're good to go!
Cool, thanks!
Tony Dates no problem! Mines about to hit 145k and runs like a champ still!
No I'm sorry I meant can you add options on a used Bmw ?
Depends on what you're looking to add, yes. Anything is possible, but it will cost you probably double in price (since you're not buying a car with it already)
Is 2015 with 12,333 miles on it for 32000 bad or no its certified
Sounds right in line! Msport? Sport? Base model? That and the other options will change the price.
Just gained a subscriber. Nice vids.
hydro.tactical sweet! I did a part 2 of this video on my channel - check it out!
Love my e90 N54. Going on 10 years now.
+fiveodude nice!!
Have you encountered many problems with it ? Really plan on getting one
you cant even check your oil level in some models 3 series lol the newer ones 2006- and up
Fifaking757 you can check it, just not as an actual dipstick check
Thanks for the advice
Chris Whitmer Part 2 of this is coming soon!
Truthiness... I have a 2007 33i as my DD. Best worst car I've ever owned--Not many headaches, but they're massive when they occur.
Rush Love yep, very true. Plan for the worst and hope for the best
I have opened the hood and said " Oh Hell No "
Hey everyone for joining back in
Is it a good idea to buy a 335i with 100,000+ miles and below $10K? Is it worth getting.
Hydro Rus I bought mine with 92k 4 years ago. Had it inspected and all is well! Currently at 146k miles and everything is perfect 👍🏻
BMW Fanatic also, what are some of the stuff you need to look out for generally on a high mileage 335i
Is 127,000 to many problems?
What year come 335 twin turbo
leon var all of them lol
Wonderful cars, IF U DON'T ABUSE THEM.... if so, u have to pay... that's what he's trying to say!!!!!
Tt S. N54s are meant to be abused. If people have gone up to 600 HP on stock internals and transmission (manual and auto) then how long do you think they will last with stock power?
It’s the same with every single car look after it and it will save you money want to abuse a car get a high performance car that can stand abuse
Bryce Dudash check out my running/ownership cost videos that will help answer what I've spent on mine 😀
BMW Fanatic will do! Thank ya much!
Bryce Dudash no problem 😀
Wow, i was thinking about buying one because of how fast and how much fun i could have in it. Don't think i'll bother now because it really does sound like a boring car to own.
buy it ! there is no. reason think about !
SAMREZ-55 amen!! 👍🏻
SAMREZ-55 I'm thinking of buying one. Never owned a BMW before. I'm looking at a 2008 335i with 62k miles. Are they good cars?
mcquaigem yes they are! Mines an 08 with 145k miles - runs like a champ 😀
BMW Fanatic I was leaning more towards the coupe. You have the sedan or coupe?
mcquaigem sedan. The coupe is perfect in every way as well 👍🏻
You'll save time by working on your own car ...?
Craig Yirush definitely, you won't have to work 80h a week to afford the dealer repair prices 😁
Craig Yirush easily you can wait up to a moth for a dealer some times
I don't agree with what you said to replace spark plugs every 15k miles? That is true for copper plugs not platinum and even less iridium.
How is the 2012 model
Amandip Budhraja that would be the N55, which is less prone to some of the issues. Things could still come up though
Question mr fanatic. lol...My 2008 528i has a very slight steering wheel vibration at speeds above 50..have you ever come across this issue?? Some feed back would be appreciated..thx. Joe
joe lane wheel alignment?
joe lane rotors
I want to buy 2011 328i but I'm not to sure yet. Anyone owned one before
Youngla14 my friend had a 2012 328i he was scared to drive it cause something went wrong everytime he drove it i think its just bad luck just depends how u take care of it
I bought a 335i a year ago. Love it but beware. Shouldve bought a truck
With great cars come great responsibility. I have an 08 335i coupe, long story short I've spent well over 60% of the cars value in repairs. It's nice but a high maintenance bitch at times
Adam Albadawi yikes, man. What major things did you have to replace?
Adam Albadawi yeah I hear ya man. Sometimes they can be a hit or miss at times
Adam Albadawi the turbo Install/purchase is usually the killer lol
hello BMW fanatic im looking to buy a 2013 335i convertible Ive seen some in the $25,000 range with 40,000 mile range good deals? can you tell me about if there a problem car? anyone else have a 2013 335i convertible too that could give me some inform I would appricate it,Thank you all in advance
Alaska Alaska I always check KBB for your current location to see about pricing. It also determines on the car options and if the car needs anything done to it.
Alaska Alaska Its an N55, so you won't run into too much of any issues
BMW Fanatic Thank you for getting back to be that was fast 👍👍 ok I spent about 4 hours watching videos on the 2013 335i convertible and most people are saying better have about $5,000 saved up due to lots of things will go wrong with it,and that it would best to buy a 328 convertible. loaded no matter what I get i definitely will buy a extended warranty
Vegas Kev thats the way extreme. I only spend about 1,500 a year on my 146k mile 335i 😀
Always be prepared.
Why do most of the youtubers not have the Msport version? Poor people
Getting my 335i convertible next week, I'm so pumped!
Do a video on how to oil change on your BMW
I have that on my channel :)
Thanks for telling me to buy a Lexus IS350 instead.
Monsieur Africain lol
Save yourself time by working on it yourself?
burned ecu and hydro abs pump ...
WEIMY BIMMER good point!
This fellow looks like Gwynn from the Supergirl series.
Heard the n54 is the worst
dflet03 best car I've owned - 4 years and 60k miles driven
Can you slide in this like drift lol?
Jordyn Botello of course - disengage DTC fully lol
CAN YOU PLEASE SHOW US THE damn 335i instead of the shot of you in a parking lot with a kids sit in the back of the car.. you could change the camera angle would help FYI bro
This video was all towards the info needed and some of the others too. Plenty more of the car was added and different angles post this one 😀
should I buy a bmw 335i 2007 for 5,000?? he says there's only a few things wrong with it
EL CHAPO is here to help have it checked out to see how good it really is (pre-purchase inspection)
BMW Fanatic do I have to go to the agency to have somone check it. how much would it cost?
EL CHAPO is here to help it could be a BMW dealer or a shop that specializes in BMW's. I would shop around a get a few quotes to see (and compare as to what all they are checking on the car as well)
BMW Fanatic thank you man, your videos are so informative you've gained a new sub👍
EL CHAPO is here to help thanks!! There are over 100 videos now 😀
****Please be sure to check out part 2 to this video!**** th-cam.com/video/FT-jR7nfqS4/w-d-xo.html
DIY might save you money, but it definitely does not save time-opposite
Maybe not at the start, but the more you get used to working on a specific platform, the easier it gets when DIY'ing each time 😀
as a hobbyist you will never be faster than a professional mechanic=0 saved time
Well yeah, I sure hope so!
Buy a scanner?
Why not shop for a used Lexus and save the stress
Jim W Ya, for the no warranty guys. No stress 😎
i doubt doing the mechanics your self saves you time
daniel muñoz it saves lots of time
You think it’s a good first car for a 17 year old
That is what I am thinking too
If u got money for insurance and maintenance y tf not
I bought a 07 335I 2 years ago and it's been a bitch I replace wheel bearings speed sensor solenoids water pump power steering high pressure line the spark plugs 3 times and keep burning the sparks abs light on the auto stick doesn't work battery warning I won't recommend this NS4 engine there nice and fast but it's not fun when broke
Abel Garcia 07's were the first year for the car, so they had a lot of the quarks
Talk about coding features
+joe Doe I have a few videos on that topic - check out my playlist
