Probably the 2 most important things when buying a used 335I would be to inspect the motor mounts. Honestly I would just replace them with a solid rubber motor mounts and also make sure that you have no oil eaks especially around the oil filter housing. These 2 little issues will save you from busting power steering pulleys and shredding belts with the possibility of getting pieces of belt sucked into your crank. Also if you can afford it when you have to replace plastic parts especially around the engine go for metal solutions will probably run you little more but totally worth it in the long run.
Have my 335 in the shop for bad water pump right now. Like someone else said, cooling fan will run like hell when the pump is toast. It's a bit late then but if you often do short drives you will be able to tell before it overheats at least. Wastegate rattle taken care of by previous owner and fuel pump is changed to handle more bhp. Owned mine for less than six months now and already eating cash for breakfast but so worth it!! Don't be put off if you want one. They drive and sound amazing!
Commitment cars? That's a funny way to spell unreliable garbage. Any car that has this many issues isn't a very well designed car in the long run. The fact of the matter is German cars are meant to be disposable. Leased by people with high incomes for 3-5 years and gotten rid of for another new one. That's the cycle of these cars...they aren't meant to be owned for 100k miles or 160,000km. German engineering my ass.
I've owned my n54 for 1 year now, bought it at 105K miles. I knew what I was getting into. since then my water pump and thermostat went, $1200 fix. next was was the valve cover gasket as well as a cracked head, $400 for parts $270 labor. new front shocks, $300 parts $130 labor. 1 blown injector, I think it was about $80 for the part. 1 full tune up and 3 oil changes later and I am at 122K miles. now I've a turbo leak, it's the 2 small vaccum tubes behind the oil filter housing. easy $5 fix I'll do it myself. still, I love the shit out this car
Roberto Taveras damn bruh, I put 64k miles on my KIA in about a year 3 months and all I had to do was buy some fuel injector cleaner $5 for sumn with my fuel system getting heavily pressurized to where I couldn't pump gas and some ecu sensor or evaporative emission valve messing up.....I'm clueless about stuff under the hood but love the hell out of cars
bought mine 122k for 5 grand well maintained one owner lady didn't even know it was turbo but whatever it needed she had bmw do she had $. i did valve cover gasket, vapor barriers, and about to do shocks and struts and oil filter housing rebuild. what shocks do you guys like? I have standard e90 no sport package
Symptoms of water pump failure usually is the fan under the hood is unusually loud trying to compensate for the failure of the water pump. Happened to me
Cody Shepard ... Good to hear a positive comment. I own a 2010 335i M-Sport coupe and have had absolutely NO issues with it whatsoever. It looks great and drives incredibly well. To all of you who enjoy putting down the 335i or BMW in general, sorry to rain on your parade. I drive my car responsibly, take it in for oil changes and brake maintenance. I’ve made NO mods on it because if you do, you’re looking for trouble. If you’ve made mods, you’ve changed the car’s engineering! So suck it up, pay the price and quit complaining. If you bought your BMW used, there’s a good chance the previous owner neglected it and you’re paying the price. By the way, my car has 144,000 km (90,000 mile) and still going strong. I accidentally fell upon this video and couldn’t believe all the negative comments. Satisfied 335i owners aren’t commenting on this video because we’re all too busy driving and enjoying our 335i.
I've done valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket, oil cooler line o-rings, water pump, thermostat, all coolant pipes, turbos under warranty, boost solenoids, all 4 rotors and pads, both front hub assemblies, 3 sets of coil packs, 3 sets of plugs, index 12 fuel injectors, all 6 high pressure fuel lines from rail to the injector, all vacuum lines, oil and filter changes every 1500-2000mi, serpentine belt and tensioner, multiple pullies, high pressure fuel pump was already done, fuel pressure regulator, power steering line. I'm sure theres more just cant remember (94K mile 2009 135i)
Great value . They haul ass ,handle incredible, look great. The interior design still isn't dated, and beautiful. I love mine! Bought it used and hasn't ever had a problem. I Maintain it , keep it serviced, and have a lot of fun with it . One of the best cars i have ever had . Would i buy it again ? YES with no hesitation.
I've had my water pump fail twice, thank god I wasn't too far from home. the oil filter housing gasket (and if you have an oil cooler the gasket coming from the oil filter housing) is (are) vital I had mine fail and had oil mixing with coolant.
Got mine last summer (MT) and have had no critical issues with it so far except for the leaking oil filter housing (when it's cold outside) and the old radiator vent hose, which i'm about to take care of and some more stuff (gaskets, clamps and some more hoses) around it just for the sake of preventive maintenance. Loving the car.
Just had my waterpump go bad last Sunday, crusing along on a nice wee drive and then it flashed limp mode and then three seconds after that flashed the red warning to stop immediately. Got towed home, ordered a new waterpump and thermostat and replaced it myself yesterday. Cost around $470 for OEM pump and thermostat and took (dont laugh at me lol) around 7 hours to do. Could definitely do it alot quicker the second time around but im really hoping i wont have to do that.
the only thing I hate about BMW is that they don't make or engineer their stuff to last.....that's the common theme. I still miss my X3 they drive amazing but damn man when something goes wrong with it it just breaks , like boom I broke no warning nothing that's what I dislike......with my Lexus if something breaks it's progressive so it warns you it doesn't just one day break
Very rewarding car as long as you accept it's a DAMN MONEY PIT!!! EVERYTHING IS FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!! You buy one for $5k-$10k and have to spend $6k-$8k to fix it........not only 1x, but several times throughout its life time. It's cheaper to LS SWAP!
Gerald Soriano lmao they, just not well, bmws electronic signal makes it the way you never know if they're off after you signal so its not worth having highway patrol think your on drugs or commiting suicide still signaling left in the car pool lane for a half a mile 😂
Thank you so much for making this video, I'm looking at a few different 335i E90's and I'm glad someone made a video about what maintenance is to be expected. I feel like I could replace most of the problems myself, I guess I'll just buy everything that usually gets replaced when I buy the car just to have some peace of mind.
Youre welcome man! Im glad i could help inform you. Many of these issues are pretty straightforward to fix especially if you have a bit of experience with working on cars.
thanks for the Vid man. Bought a 13 335 IS at the end of last year. Living in SD and thinking about getting people, with these vehicles, together to discuss and share general knowledge of the cars. Great to see your work coming through and making it available
Thank you man, thats so awesome you got an 335is I love those things. I want one with a DCT haha. And absolutely man, I would love to get a car meet goin and meet people, and have some sick cars as well in the SD area
My water pump went out. I noticed that all of a sudden the temp went up about five degrees. It was not too long after that the water pump failed. Yes, you are correct about the cost. I paid about $1,500. The good news is that after I had it repaired the temp is lower than it ever was. Dave...............
Not gonna lie i damn ner watched all your vids and made a very tough decision. I sold my E36 and bought a 2007 335i coupe 6speed and im loving this vehicle sooooo much.
waterpump $ 1640 to fix at a dealer in 2017.. happened to my N54.. exactly as you described.. no warning whatsoever at all.. suddenly overheat indicator and limp mode immediately. very dangerous situation.
I was going to buy one. Looked at 3 of them locally. One had broken control arm and the steering wheel was wobbling. One had massive oil leaks all over the engine and turbo charger. Last one stalled on me in the middle of the road while I was taking a left at a light. Shit was scary... I owned a bmw 540i 1998 and it was so damn reliable. Sold it at 300,000kms and the new owner loved it also. I ended up buying a 2012 hfp accord love it.. Has 300hp without turbos.
I'm buying a 2008 335i tomorrow, 1st oct. 2019. This is my second car, first was a 2004 citroen c3 💩. So excited, I will put updates if i run into problems.
Had my 2009 E92 M sport 6 speed manual in Le Mans blue for 6 1/2 years. The best driving car I have ever owned and the longest too, however valve cover gaskets replaced x2, HPFPx2, AC blower, water pump, 6 injectors, I was done. I bailed before I had any wastegate turbo issues. My previous 325ci and 328 E92 were bullet proof zero issues. The 335i I was constantly worried about what would go wrong. Never again
Michael Grant oh yeah especially when the turbos go out...you will need deep pockets to fix that lol even if you diy the cost in parts isn't even worth it since these cars aren't even worth much anymore
this car is so easy to work on i never worked on a bmw in my life i got a 335i and went form stock to FBO in 1 month with 6266 turbo installed all of it my self super easy car to work on
My 08 335xi has the same issue with the hose literally bursting open but that was fixed and just the other day another one of the hoses burst but it wasn’t the hose it was Flange; since BMW loves plastic it just overtime got corroded but just ordered an aluminum replacement to never deal with that happening again ! Big big big heads up for any N54 owners out there !
Hey thanks for the video post man! I took one of these for a test drive a few years back and immediately fell in love. However I have heard all the horror stories about BMW's and decided I should just stick with what I know which is Japanese cars. I have to be honest, after hearing your testimony and many others who own this car and other BMW cars it amazes me how bad German engineering is. This kind of stuff would never happen on a Japanese car! What I conclude is the parts are just no good on European cars , they don't hold up. I'm surprised how people continue to buy their cars when they are proven to not be reliable and extremely expensive to fix.
I mean that’s bc most the Japanese cars are little rice burners that are easy to work on 😂😂😂 I’ve owned everything from jdm American muscle and German but jdm is definitely the easiest no wonder all the kids buy a stanced infinity or civic or 350z
And the ones that are pretty cool and fast from factory come w issues about just as bad like the 300zx the vg is a nightmare to work on I swapped one of those engines and I’d never do it again
I have a 07 335i. I recommend the car as a project car. DO NOT DAILY THIS! This car has lots of them. I just got rod knock after putting down 5k in parts... I just finished up repairing it and then it breaks on me again... the car is amazing. I mean AMAZING. But it’s a bitch to keep working. If your looking for a fast kind of reliable Bmw look at an e92 m3. From what I’ve heard( friends) it’s good, after you change the rod bearings.
2011 335is: 3 valve cover gaskets, 1 oil filter housing gasket, 1 water pump, 6 fuel injectors, 2 turbos. All covered under warrantee so not all bad. But I won't keep it long after coverage stops
Simply Car Things 62,000. Super clean, never tuned just some window tint. It's all the normal stuff. Great engine block it's just everything around it that sucks. Can't own one of these things outside of warrantee. It's the law of diminishing returns, it will cost you more to keep it on the road than the car is actually worth.
my waterpump failed, exactly like you said, driving normally, all the sudden limp mode, then open coolant resovior and erupted like volcano. Expensive fix $1000
82,000 miles already replaced water pump, coils spark plugs, oil cooler housing gasket and thermo stat. Fuel pump is acting up that is next. Don't buy this shit is you don't have the $ to fix it when shit starts to go bad.. good video man..
My 135i (N54) never had any pumps going bad on me. Currently 91k miles and I was lucky enough to have my Piston Rod Bearings go bad and make a horrible knocking noises in my engine. My Crankshaft is damaged and maybe the 4th piston. I already took the engine apart and nearly everything will cost me over $2000. It’s really a rare problem to even get on this beast engine. I’m rebuilding the engine back up and hopefully get forged Crankshaft Bearings. And also add upgraded turbos. Idk if my engine died cause of my tunes? Because my engine died 1 week after I took my 135i to Bmw for airbag recall. Just strange.
Danny Pineda No!!!! Dont regret this car trust me its so awesome the power, looks, sound all that combined makes this car great. Although it has Maintenance its worth the reward for this car!
Wow, this is quite concerning, and very unfortunate. My e30 (1991 318is) that's been in the family since new, was just destroyed by a big rig. My car was in Perfect condition and ran STRONG, even with 239k miles; just put in a new power steering ($1,500), and other than that, hardly ever had ANY mechanical issues. I'm looking at either a 335i sedan (M Package Estoril Blue), or Ford Focus ST, and was leaning toward the 335 until seeing this video. This car sounds like an expensive nightmare! HUGE bummer!
dude thanks for the tips. I was wondering why oil was leaking from the filter area, and under the engine cover. Now I know. I need new gaskets. On my to do list. My 2010 335i N54 is now going through misfire issues, yeah another thing that is on my to do list. It is a fun car to drive, I just can't wait until I fix these issues. Oh the one issue you left out is the Blower. At times I've heard they go bad really early. When I bought my 335i, used, the dealer replaced it cause it wasn't even working. Just thought that would be something you should share. Once again thanks for all the info.
Marcris Tyrell Interesting yea i probly shouldve mentioned it! And yeah no problem man! Glad i helped you out, yea i hate when my car starts misfiring its so annoying but i guess its just part of owning anN54
I have owned a 2007 e90 330i for a year and a half and I am deciding whether to go with a 335i or 650i. The V8 will be smoother with it's auto box and more comfortable and have comparable performance with a better sound). The 335i is far more tunable with initially better economy but more likely to suffer problems.
So basically the e92 problems are exactly the same as issues from the e46 era (i own e46). So it just goes to show that BMW couldnt care less about reliability. It annoys me how Toyota, Nissan and Honda can make an engine that doesnt leak oil/have vacuum leaks but BMW cant.
I bought an '08 335xi in October 2015 with about 90k miles on it for 13k. Since then I've had to: Replace the turbos (wastegate rattle), upgraded to VTT rebuilt turbos, partially covered by 3rd party warranty. New HPFP, covered under BMW warranty. New plugs and coils, was having misfires (recently got an MHD tune, so I will have to replace them again soon). New oil filter housing gasket and currently needs a new valve cover gasket (smells like burning oil, occasionally smoke coming up from under the hood). The shocks/struts are also shot and need to be replaced. Currently at 116k miles and luckily havent had to replace the water pump yet! Would I buy it again if I had the choice? Probably not honestly, just too much to stay on top of for a daily driver.
Aaron Meyer Yea thats quite an extensive list haha! My valve cover gasket still needs to be done and im gona take it to a shop to get it replaced. How do you like the MHD tune?
My car is salvage title 335i coupe 2007 and my water pump failed while I was at roughly around 64,000 miles. Cost me 300 bucks to replace plus I had to change the thermostat too. And lately I’ve been getting some vibration too while I’m at a stop on Park or when I’m at a red light.
great video im looking into a 335i (currently have a 89 foxbody and a 2006 2.0T passat) and i was a little nervous but doing ...... but what goes wrong doesn't seem too bad or out of the ordinary from other cars
great reviews, just wanna point out one thing , on your videos, more videos on showing the car while elaborating on the vehicles will be a great advantage.
Don't buy an N54 then! I have a 2011 335i (N55) for 7 years (bought new in sept 2010) only one repair the water pump at 39,000 miles. I have 47,678 miles on it to date.
Replace fuel and water pump with third party performance company. If you replace it with Factory parts, you will be wasting money. Also knock or misfires, burning up plugs and coil packs can be resolved with the car being properly tuned if modified.
I've only owned BMW's my entire life, and there's nothing I fear more than the N54, even though I want to just take the risk and get an E90. Having driven diesels and never having any issues I'm just too scared to even touch it.
I have done all these repairs on my2002 325 ci and she needs more and more every time. I want another bmw but scared I'm starting this repair cycle over again. 335i has 38k miles and a 2011.. Ugh adulting is hard
Damn, those are some serious issues, i didn't know that :o My Volvo V70r '98 with 420k km has no oilleaks of whatever. And parts are cheap. Was thinking to replace it with a 335 or Alpina B3 (or an S4). I wanted a reliable more recent car :-D
Dimitry M Thankfully the previous owner of my car took care of a lot of the issues. I curently need to replace my valve cover gasket. My upper radiator hose cracked, replaced all six spark plugs, did walnut shell blasting. So far thats it 🙏🏼
Simply Car Things If you have never done it and you do it just go really slow so you don't brake anything. It's easy to do if you know the tricks to get enough clearance without removing too much stuff. I'm in north california I'd help you if you live close by.
My k24 acura tsx doesn't need shit at 180k miles. Ls corvette engines are way more reliable than any bmw engines. I'm a BMW tech I see them everyday. I love BMW but they always brake or leak. Unless you fix everything. I forgot to mention the DMTL pump fails too on these cars or the pressure switch for the cars that have NVLD (these cause check engine light).
What is mentioned in this video damn near affects any BM that you can think of. You can upgrade to a much better water pump in comparison to stock or oe and might as well throw under drive pulleys while you're at it.... BMW is cool asF as long as your head gasket doesn't blow on you which can also be prevented.
I'm thinking about buying a 2007 335i Coupe, that has a vibration when sitting at idle. I was told the number 6 cylinder has a problem. Is this a major issue or minor?
What do you recommend about the change in communication network for the connectone. Options are bring in for updated modification at BMW or forget about it and have inactivated and get reimbursed $200. ? Just not sure what I will get out of the connectone, any ideas what I'd miss out on if don't upgrade modification? Thanks.
I’m looking at a couple 335is but what are things to look for before I buy one, like say they don’t know much about the car or the maintenance done to it? How would I go about buying one without running into a bunch of issues?
You are such a nice guy to share your wisdom.. has anyone used my repair pal site? it said gives estimate and listed bmw as a shop that honor the estimate. And refund anything over. what do you all think about that as safety with getting fair repair
Nick Southerland Yep, i recently got my intake valves walnut blasted! And thanks man! I appreciate that a lot, i will be making tons of more videos all car related, so stay tuned :)
Simply Car Things $300 nice! i was thinking it will cost more. ok cool i didnt know that. thanks for the info! yea im going to have to look into that. because i only had the car for like 7 months. idk if the previous owner had done it. deff gotta ask him and i had only put like 1500 miles since i got it
Great looking car but it seems that it has a lot of faulty parts. I'm looking at a 2008 N54 335i convertible coupe. 61,000 miles for about 12,000 I can bargain down to 11,000. Figure to get on top of all of those faulty parts I may have to spend another $6000 that includes the upgraded turbos. Final price taxes 18,000 giving me 500 hp with the up grades. But the car us 12 years old. Do you think is worth the money. Please advise bro.
I'm looking into buying a 335i, I've herd about a lot of problems with these cars and this video kinda scared me. Do you think it's worth it with all the trade offs?
That1BlueBullitt Yes, but my advice to you would be to take your time and search for a clean, well maintained example of a 335. Make sure you purchase one from an owner that has taken care of the car and stayed on top of maintenance, a neglected one will give you many problems
Bad gaskets, fuel pump, cooling system and hoses, misfires, random leaks, I had many of the same problems years ago when I had an E39 540i , I can't believe after all these years BMW hasn't figured out what type of gaskets to use on their extra hot engines. I've owned 3 Accords in my life and drove them into the high 200 thousands km and none of them had an oil leak,. Hondas are no BMWs when it comes to driving but at least get the gaskets right ,
mine has a misfire right now. i replaced all 6 plugd and coils. bit it is still the same. the spark plug #1 does not change when i remove the coil. all others make it work worst. could it be the fuel injector?
Reckless Gaming Yea i mean obviously the answer is very subjective but this has been my personal experience so far. If things do go wrong then that number can increase very quickly. My tip would just be to find a trustworthy 3rd party mechanic, or DIY whatever you can
you forgot to mention on early model n54 ecu mosfet failure will cause you to have random bank or a single misfire that will drive you nuts and make you throw many at your injectors and spark plugs and ignition coils not knowing its a small mosfet in your ecu that failed to send the spark signal to your coilpack/s
Someone is selling a 2007 335i for 9,500 but not sure if it's worth it, he said he had replaced the water pump and radiator before selling it but I'd have to see for myself. Just wondering if it's a good price?
What mileage does it have? I've been seeing them for under 7k within the 3 hour radius of my house with less than 130k miles, 2008 and 2007, mostly 2007 though. I'd definitely do a CarFAX on it and have a shop that knows a thing or two about BMW take a look at it before you buy. Those are a few cheap insurance things that need to be done for a confident buy.
Probably the 2 most important things when buying a used 335I would be to inspect the motor mounts. Honestly I would just replace them with a solid rubber motor mounts and also make sure that you have no oil eaks especially around the oil filter housing. Owned mine for less than six months now and already eating cash for breakfast but so worth it!! Don't be put off if you want one. They drive and sound amazing!
BMW's are commitment cars, you have to really take care of them. But they're fun to drive so that kind of justifies the cost.
Totally agree, commitment is definitely the right word BUT once you commit and take care of them man they're so much fun!
DiscoR53
It depends on what year and model bmw you buy, I never had any problems with the four bmw's i owned, I also do all the work myself.
Commitment cars? That's a funny way to spell unreliable garbage. Any car that has this many issues isn't a very well designed car in the long run. The fact of the matter is German cars are meant to be disposable. Leased by people with high incomes for 3-5 years and gotten rid of for another new one. That's the cycle of these cars...they aren't meant to be owned for 100k miles or 160,000km.

lol my buddy has dropped close to 10k on his 335i already. 24 months of ownership
$1200 for thermostat and waterpump!? I hope you did not bring it to the dealer
bought mine 122k for 5 grand well maintained one owner lady didn't even know it was turbo but whatever it needed she had bmw do she had $. i did valve cover gasket, vapor barriers, and about to do shocks and struts and oil filter housing rebuild. what shocks do you guys like? Nathan Kantor Ohhh okay! Thanks for sharing because that actually is a good telltale sign
No problem. Nice video btw, keep em coming!
Nathan Kantor Thank you! And yes you can count on tons of more videos as well!
Btw when you replaced your coils and spark plugs did you use OEM or aftermarket? If so what brand?
Nathan Kantor I used OEM ! Bosch for the spark plugs and Coils !
Honestly I’ve owned my 2007 bmw 335i for 4 year and I take care of it like crazy. I haven’t had a single problem with it.

It's always great to watch an accurate N54 TH-cam video - great job man!
BMW Fanatic That means a lot coming from the DIY expert of the N54 ! Thank you so much :)
Simply Car Things 😀👍🏻
I've had my water pump fail twice, thank god I wasn't too far from home. the oil filter housing gasket (and if you have an oil cooler the gasket coming from the oil filter housing) is (are) vital I had mine fail and had oil mixing with coolant.

Eric Vlasov thats awesome man! Glad its been fairly reliable to you!
Just had my waterpump go bad last Sunday, crusing along on a nice wee drive and then it flashed limp mode and then three seconds after that flashed the red warning to stop immediately. crf249 im not laughing at you at all! Props to you for replacing it, I would be lost if it happened to me and probly just take it to a shop
wow that happened to me exactly. i had it towed to the dealer.. and was $ 1640 with the thermostat
the only thing I hate about BMW is that they don't make or engineer their stuff to last.....that's the common theme. I still miss my X3 they drive amazing but damn man when something goes wrong with it it just breaks , like boom I broke no warning nothing that's what I dislike......with my Lexus if something breaks it's progressive so it warns you it doesn't just one day break
Just had my first misfire gang 🤘🏻
Very rewarding car as long as you accept it's a DAMN MONEY PIT!!! EVERYTHING IS FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!! You buy one for $5k-$10k and have to spend $6k-$8k to fix it........not only 1x, but several times throughout its life time. It's cheaper to LS SWAP!
Turn indicators usually don't work
Gerald Soriano lmao they, just not well, bmws electronic signal makes it the way you never know if they're off after you signal so its not worth having highway patrol think your on drugs or commiting suicide still signaling left in the car pool lane for a half a mile 😂
Rick Rucker I know, lol ive had multiple bmws and I was giving the reason why sokme don't use thier signals 😂
Hopefully we get to see you do some mods to your car in the near future nice channel!
Absolute Virtue Thanks man! And yes you guys definetly will! Tons of mods and stuff coming!
My water pump went out. I noticed that all of a sudden the temp went up about five degrees. It was not too long after that the water pump failed. Yes, you are correct about the cost. I paid about $1,500. The good news is that after I had it repaired the temp is lower than it ever was. Dave...............
make sure they check your head gasket more likely you will need one after the engine got that hot..
happened to me too.. was horrible.. scary because no warning.
Not gonna lie i damn ner watched all your vids and made a very tough decision. I sold my E36 and bought a 2007 335i coupe 6speed and im loving this vehicle sooooo much.
Im thinking of buying one. Private owner with low miles. Im hoping he loved it.
You should buy another E36 too and keep both
Had a e49 and I'm loving my e90 so far right here with you
Welp my turbos are destroyed I guess I have to get second gen 750hp turbo from Garret
waterpump $ 1640 to fix at a dealer in 2017.. happened to my N54.. exactly as you described.. no warning whatsoever at all.. suddenly overheat indicator and limp mode immediately. very dangerous situation.
Great video I'm glad someones documenting the bmw 335 n54 daily kind of stuff.
Jeff E My pleasure man, and thanks for your support :)
I'm buying a 2008 335i tomorrow, 1st oct. 2019. This is my second car, first was a 2004 citroen c3 💩. So excited, I will put updates if i run into problems.
how has it been one week in?
@@JonNotJon It's been really good. Love this car so far.
Update month and a half later?
@@splashwealth No problems what so ever... yet 🤣. Still feel like a total G in this car.
GumScavenger i just bought myself a 2008 bmw 335i too 😂 sport package and premium package with navigation. Let me tell you the seats are comfyy
Never again
awesome video! I just bought a 2008 bmw 335i coupe last night... love all your vids keep em up so i can learn more about my 335i haha!
Tomas Morgan Congrats man! And dont worry plenty of more vids to come! Thanks for watching!
How it has been?
Damn seems like the 335i is less reliable then a e46 M3
Mine has been flawless for the last 30k miles
Michael Grant oh yeah especially when the turbos go out...you will need deep pockets to fix that lol even if you diy the cost in parts isn't even worth it since these cars aren't even worth much anymore
Whatevaaa
wof....3 months no issue. reliability level 9000...
this car is so easy to work on i never worked on a bmw in my life i got a 335i and went form stock to FBO in 1 month with 6266 turbo installed all of it my self super easy car to work on
My 08 335xi has the same issue with the hose literally bursting open but that was fixed and just the other day another one of the hoses burst but it wasn’t the hose it was Flange; since BMW loves plastic it just overtime got corroded but just ordered an aluminum replacement to never deal with that happening again ! Big big big heads up for any N54 owners out there !
yep! those aluminum counterparts are a must have!
I'm surprised how people continue to buy their cars when they are proven to not be reliable and extremely expensive to fix.
blessed7fold
yeah man, I have a Bmw but i daily drive my Infiniti. If you don't do the work yourself these car's can be very expensive to maintain.
But I won't keep it long after coverage stops
mrpicky510 wow, thats a lot of repair. 3 VCG's ?! Whats your mileage?
Simply Car Things 62,000. Super clean, never tuned just some window tint. It's all the normal stuff. Great engine block it's just everything around it that sucks. Can't own one of these things outside of warrantee. It's the law of diminishing returns, it will cost you more to keep it on the road than the car is actually worth.
mrpicky510 Yea i see your points man. A lot of the supporting components to the N54 suck, unfortunately thats just the way it is
my waterpump failed, exactly like you said, driving normally, all the sudden limp mode, then open coolant resovior and erupted like volcano. Expensive fix $1000
82,000 miles already replaced water pump, coils spark plugs, oil cooler housing gasket and thermo stat. Fuel pump is acting up that is next. Don't buy this shit is you don't have the $ to fix it when shit starts to go bad.. good video man..
EL HIJO E TILA thanks man, yea unfortunately it can be tough keeping up with these things each car varies. But i still love mine
I just got a 335i... I wish I could have seen your video sooner to understand that this car comes with mechanical and maintenance issues lol
Danny Pineda No!!!! Dont regret this car trust me its so awesome the power, looks, sound all that combined makes this car great. Although it has Maintenance its worth the reward for this car!
Hi Omar, also the AC evaporator went in my car.. $ 3,000 repair.. i have 75,000 miles on my N54.
This is a good vid , straight to the point
thank you for watching!
Thanks for the info. Was very help in making my decision to pickup a 2009 BMW 335i Highline coupe, here in the UK.
Patrick Oye of course no problem!
dude thanks for the tips.
Glad i helped you out, yea i hate when my car starts misfiring its so annoying but i guess its just part of owning anN54
great... i just bought one now what.. im screwed.
1 year later..how's it?
2 years later..how's it?
I'm buying one tomorrow 😁
3 years later how is it ?
20 years later how was it ?
I'll pass on buying a huge money pit LOL. Thanks for the video.
Officially deterred from buying one...
Ben A
I call the newer Bmw's disposable cars, I leased a 328i E90 years ago and to me it's not a car i would want to own.
I bought an '08 335xi in October 2015 with about 90k miles on it for 13k.
Since then I've had to:
Replace the turbos (wastegate rattle), upgraded to VTT rebuilt turbos, partially covered by 3rd party warranty.
Good videos bro , they answer all my questions . Thanks for everything!
"weather extremes especially in southern California" LOL
My car is salvage title 335i coupe 2007 and my water pump failed while I was at roughly around 64,000 miles. Cost me 300 bucks to replace plus I had to change the thermostat too. And lately I’ve been getting some vibration too while I’m at a stop on Park or when I’m at a red light.
great video im looking into a 335i (currently have a 89 foxbody and a 2006 2.0T passat) and i was a little nervous but doing ...... but what goes wrong doesn't seem too bad or out of the ordinary from other cars
Dre yea these are common issues with this car and if you can DIY the job youll save quite a bit of money!
I'm not a car guy just really like this bmw. If I were to get a used one can I do preemptive things to keep it reliable? I drive a fair bit for work
As long as u do ur oil changes and check ur engine bay onu e a week ur good bruh
great reviews, just wanna point out one thing , on your videos, more videos on showing the car while elaborating on the vehicles will be a great advantage.
Thanks for the feedback! I will definitely be doing so for future videos :)
Thank you for sharing this 😀
Go to the Bimmer forums. There tons of detailed threads on common drivetrain issues.
So is it every single model year or generation of 335 or particular years have these problems?
Don't buy an N54 then! I have a 2011 335i (N55) for 7 years (bought new in sept 2010) only one repair the water pump at 39,000 miles. I have 47,678 miles on it to date.
Replace fuel and water pump with third party performance company. If you replace it with Factory parts, you will be wasting money. Also knock or misfires, burning up plugs and coil packs can be resolved with the car being properly tuned if modified.
How to force the fuel pump to go out before the warranty period is up?
I've only owned BMW's my entire life, and there's nothing I fear more than the N54, even though I want to just take the risk and get an E90. Having driven diesels and never having any issues I'm just too scared to even touch it.
I have done all these repairs on my2002 325 ci and she needs more and more every time. I want another bmw but scared I'm starting this repair cycle over again. 335i has 38k miles and a 2011.. Ugh adulting is hard
Good info. Thanks a lot!
“Not tryna scare you guys” bro scared every single person thinking of buying an n54
Damn, those are some serious issues, i didn't know that :o My Volvo V70r '98 with 420k km has no oilleaks of whatever. And parts are cheap. Was thinking to replace it with a 335 or Alpina B3 (or an S4). I wanted a reliable more recent car :-D
Everything fails on that engine. coils, spark plugs, injectors, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket, turbos, water pump, thermostat, evaporator, high pressure fuel pump, starter, fuel pump, thrust arm bushings leak, brakes rotors get warped, vanos solenoids, dmtl pump, rattle from the muffler, coolant reservoir.
Dimitry M Thankfully the previous owner of my car took care of a lot of the issues. I curently need to replace my valve cover gasket. My upper radiator hose cracked, replaced all six spark plugs, did walnut shell blasting. So far thats it 🙏🏼
All repairs I mentioned are minor things and easy to do. I'm looking to get one too. just do 3k or 4k oil changes.
Dimitry M Want to help me replace my valve cover gasket? Haha, im scared to do it myself it looks like an extensive job
Thanks.
Great video! What is the front splitter on the thumbnail e92? looks nice
Thanks! I think its actually an M-Sport bumper!
I have the M sport bumper but was interested in the carbon fiber piece. It looks awesome!
I’m looking at a couple 335is but what are things to look for before I buy one, like say they don’t know much about the car or the maintenance done to it? How would I go about buying one without running into a bunch of issues?
I have a 2007 BMW 335I coupe m. Change all my oxygen sensors read the codes slow responding of one sensor what is that is that a bad Cala converter
2008 335i 86k miles on it. Should I buy please I need help
This isn't as common but don't forget if the serpentine belt snaps it takes out the crank seal fairly often 😂
Good information👍
You are such a nice guy to share your wisdom.. has anyone used my repair pal site? it said gives estimate and listed bmw as a shop that honor the estimate. And refund anything over. what do you all think about that as safety with getting fair repair
just general maintenance on a lot of different direct injection engines is getting the intake valves cleaned
PS I really like your channel you should drive more cars, try to expand your channel. keep up the good work.
Nick Southerland Yep, i recently got my intake valves walnut blasted! And thanks man! I appreciate that a lot, i will be making tons of more videos all car related, so stay tuned :)
Simply Car Things nice vid bro!! how much did the walnut blast cost you? or how much does it cost because i was thinking of doing that soon?
ahmad badra At a local shop i got mine done for $300 ! I believe its a service which is recommeneded every 30k miles or so!
Simply Car Things $300 nice! i was thinking it will cost more. ok cool i didnt know that. thanks for the info! yea im going to have to look into that. because i only had the car for like 7 months. idk if the previous owner had done it. deff gotta ask him and i had only put like 1500 miles since i got it
Thank you so much for awesome details
Jobran Jubair No problem man!
Planning on getting one at auction since I got rid of my e46 :( Honda civics just doesn’t compete
hey man what's up? how do I know if a 2007 BMW 335i coupe is a n53 or a n54? what's the difference between them?
Ive been a mechanic and will never own a BM Trouble U. I really like driving them , but to many issues.
Make sure it has been driven hard. I do mine and have none of these problems.
Thanks Omar!
Kyle James no problem Kyle!
Hondas are no BMWs when it comes to driving but at least get the gaskets right ,
abelucious Couldnt agree with you more man. I dont understand either why they cant figure out these issues. It really can get frustrating.
abelucious the bmw engines are usually at an angle which is why they tend to leak.
just pick-up BMW 335XI 2008 I'm seen a little white smoke from the exhaust when the car is warm up, is that normal
Paul Alexander im pretty sure its normal
So would you recommend purchasing one of these used for the price point of around 8-10 K that they go for now?
Zzafari7 if its been well maintained then yes!
you do a good job. thank you.
Mitch Collins thank you i appreciate that!
Very informative, good vids.
Thank You!!
2012 335 IS I ran into bad control arms. Replaced at 85,500 miles. watch out of that.
mine has a misfire right now.
i replaced all 6 plugd and coils.
bit it is still the same. the spark plug #1 does not change when i remove the coil. all others make it work worst. could it be the fuel injector?
Victor Munoz potentially a bad injector. I'm not sure to be honest with you man :(
Victor Munoz very likely the injectors were recalled at one point
Achilleas Drakou
yeah but dealer said they changed them back in 2011..
i will take them all out and clean them.
Try to get it reprogrammed
Ignition coil, change it
just subbed! great content :)
Kyantiq Thank you so much! I really appreciate it :)
If I would ask , which would cost more maintenance wise ? 328i or 335i , 2007 both , such as insurance tires etc.
Reckless Gaming 335i is definetly going to cost more! Mostly because maintenance
Simply Car Things how much is it monthly as an estimate
Reckless Gaming it depends how much you drive what problems youve had. Its hard to give an estimate but id say around $200-$250 a month for me
wow. Much less than i anticipated. With all these people telling me "oh good luck with the maintenance" made me think it was alot more
Reckless Gaming Yea i mean obviously the answer is very subjective but this has been my personal experience so far. If things do go wrong then that number can increase very quickly. My tip would just be to find a trustworthy 3rd party mechanic, or DIY whatever you can
Thanks for making this vid
you forgot to mention on early model n54 ecu mosfet failure will cause you to have random bank or a single misfire that will drive you nuts and make you throw many at your injectors and spark plugs and ignition coils not knowing its a small mosfet in your ecu that failed to send the spark signal to your coilpack/s
Jose Nathanael I was completely unaware about that. Is it an easy fix if that is the case?
Someone is selling a 2007 335i for 9,500 but not sure if it's worth it, he said he had replaced the water pump and radiator before selling it but I'd have to see for myself. Just wondering if it's a good price?
What mileage does it have? I've been seeing them for under 7k within the 3 hour radius of my house with less than 130k miles, 2008 and 2007, mostly 2007 though. I'd definitely do a CarFAX on it and have a shop that knows a thing or two about BMW take a look at it before you buy. Those are a few cheap insurance things that need to be done for a confident buy.
Omar straight crippin' g.
lmao i looked horrible in this vid hahaha
A 335i 2015 with 50 thousand miles sound good ?
2007-2007 models. Fuel Pump / Water Pump = huge issues
