Please make a video around the dangers of direct viewing of blue ( people say brightest white) color temperature and these OEM “blue” LED headlights aren’t needed for city driving/ well lit streets. Driving on dark one way country roads is a whole different story. Unfortunately it seems it will take people to die and sue to get car manufacturers to change to a warmer color temperature of their OEM headlights.
There's only one reason behind it, the people at the DOT are a bunch of morons for allowing it to happen. My local fire department has nice gentle headlights on their super modern trucks...what does that tell you? Just cause the irresponsible vehicle manufacturers put laser beams on the front of your car doesn't mean you can't spend a few bucks and put reasonable lights in there, it's not that hard to do.
don't be a jerk
get softer lights
The temperature of the sun changes as the day goes by. Mornings and evenings have a different temperature. As I have sold LED lights for years and know the temperature they produce. The worst offenders is GM their lights are blue white and produce more light as well. Truck makers place the headlights higher on the front of the trucks. Add to this a load in the truck and the lights point higher than normal. The same for cars with a load in the trunk or people in the back seats. There is no need for that kind of light when you are facing on coming traffic. High output lights are great for search lights or aircraft landing lights as they don't face on coming traffic. Yes cleaning your lights and windshield helps but blue light blinds people. Ask any eye doctor! ! !
I disagree with the conclusion. Even a properly adjusted light will still blind people. SUVs and trucks simply ride higher than sedans and will shine directly into mirrors and windshields, and every car hits bumps in the road, goes over hills etc. Light is going to get into the faces of other drivers, and if the light is too bright, it creates a dangerous situation. I've seen headlights that were uncomfortably bright in broad daylight, and I've been forced to frequently stop using my mirrors at night, because the glare makes it dangerously difficult to see anything. I've drifted out of a lane because I couldn't see a turn while being blinded through my mirrors by some SUV's headlights that rival the sun. Modern headlights are far too bright.
By definition "properly" adjusted lights won't blind people. If its still blinding, its not properly adjusted
@@nateb4543 NOPE. Regardless Of They Are Adjusted Properly On Higher Vehicles. They Are Too Damn Bright... PERIOD...
@@davemckolanis4683its not the brightness, it is the spectral power distribution of the light and the lack of auto aiming features! Old HID headlamps had auto levelers! They didnt blind people despite being brighter than LEDs.
These LED headlights need to go!!
Too many people never dim their headlights for approaching traffic and many have very bright foglights.
Bottom line is nobody gives a sh!t anymore.
Many of those are using their normal headlights, not hi-beams, they can't dim them without turning them off. The problem is the modern headlights are producing too much blue light which is harsh on our eyes.
The roads are no longer safe and nothing is being done about this. It's becoming worse every year. I have seen two eye specialists and I now have a doctors note that permits me to drastically tint all my windows and wear dark orange sunglasses when driving at night. These lights are more of a problem than ever and no laws are being enforced. The system has failed us.
I don't have a wind screen( filters wind ). I do have a wind shield( protects from wind). Lol
I actually wear my sunglasses when I drive at night because it's so bad. i keep putting them on and taking them off for this exact reason.
It's so irritating that the auto companies are creating all of these problems for us and calling it red tape when really they have so much power & can implement this immediately if they actually wanted to. More car wrecks equals more car sales. How about adaptive windshield tinting technology or just a divider that's high enough to block the lights on highways and freeways? Obviously that's not going to work everywhere but it could work in a lot of places.
Better Yet, Just Outlaw The Damn Dangerous Things. Problem Solved...
I like the divider idea. Some kind of screen fencing. Particularly on upcoming curves
These super bright headlights need to be banned. They are terrible when oncoming. And extremely bad when a car gets behind you. The lights are so bright, they reflect in the rearview mirrors, blinding me. I've seriously considered adding a smoke system to my car as a deterrent. The NTSB needs to do their job to end this hazard.
You're completely missing the point. Vehicle lighting used to regulated and had a maximum acceptable output. Don't know if that has changed or if the government is just become lackadaisical especially the police who do nothing about failure to dims. The situation is making it much worse for people who don't have perfect vision are aged or handicapped who was previous sliding got by just fine . It's like somebody in the government took a huge bribe to allow the lighting industry to go forward unrestrained. Notice how many vehicles have extra lights that were previously considered equipment violations.
I would like to know how many avoidable collisions hypocrite due to unregulated lightin andg
Okay here's the only thing you can do illuminate your brights briefly to give them a chance to dim. If they don't dim Grant them a longer period of exposure.
My standard is if my eyes hurt they have their brights on. Pickup trucks have higher and more powerful lights which complicates the matter notwithstanding the fact that many pickup trucks are driven by Young punk males who really don't care
Whether you can see.
The automotive industry has refused to standardize headlight height.😊😊
Get a big ass mirror and have a person in your car dedicated to blinding the person back as much as possible...Also pull them over and force them to sit in high beam lights from a couple feet away for half an hour...Really Ill take anything because it is absolutely ridiculous that its even legal to have these lights and should at the very least get HEAVY fines for them
I was one of those who would think of saying a few choice words but I will be over to the store to get my bulbs changed.
@ 1:15 You mean more appealing and less blinding warm white.
It's the light at the blue side of the spectrum (5000k) and up that is the most blinding. If your older and have cloudy eyes, cataracts, any sort of degeneration blue light is blinding even at lower lumin levels.
LED headlights on trucks and cars are a killer when you meet four or five together oncoming on a curvy road -- particularly when the local government fails to keep the white lines on the road bright and clear.
This was super helpful such an informative video
Just A Bunch Of EXCUSES To Defend A DANGEROUS SITUATION...
The reflectors may also not be designed for the replacement options, you should use the same bulb type as your vehicle was designed for.
This video was nice. I never kneew this got me into more videos
This Report Danced COMPLETELY AROUND A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION INDEED... Higher Sitting Vehicles Have The Super Bright Headlights Sitting At THE SAME HEIGHT As The Driver's Line Of Sight In Lower Sitting Cars. NOT GOOD. Also, Most Vehicles Today Have The Main AND Lower Fog Lights ON CONSTANTlY. Having 4-Beams, (And Many Times 6-Headlight Beams), Facing Oncoming Drivers To Blind Them. And Also Drivers Today Expect To DRIVE AS FAST AT NIGHT As They Do In The Daytime, Requiring MORE Road Lighting. When They Should Actually Be REDUCING THEiR Night Time DRIViNG SPEED. And Finially, If A Person Needs THAT MUCH LIGHT To See To Drive At Night, THEY SHOULDN'T BE DRIVING AT ALL, And Need A Vision Examination. Glass Sealed Beam Headlights Worked FINE For DECADES. But These Self Centered Concocted Excuses To Allow VERY DANGEROUS Blinding Headlights Is TOTAL NONSENSE. If Cars Want To Have That Much Brighter Blinding Light On The Road, Then It Should Be Aimed WAY DOWN At The Pavement. And Have Automatic Sensors To Only Tilt Them Higher When NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC Is Detected Coming Toward The Blinding Vehicles Lights. Better And Easier Yet, Just Outlaw The Damn Things Completely And REMOVE The Safety Hazzard Altogether. EVERYBODY I Talk To HATES Being BLINDED By Them... PERIOD...
I put reflective bag in the middle of my rear window. It blocks out 90% of aholes behind me. Also put sign in rear window "stop blinding us...." People read it and sometimes concede. Nothing bad for past few mos. Everyone agrees including the 1's doing this. It needs to STOP NOW
There's only one problem - LED headlights are blinding us. I don't care how clean my windshield is, and LED's are going everywhere now - parking lot lights - too bright now. Lights on the sides of buildings - too bright now. The metal halides were fine for these things. Walmart here just changed out their rows and rows of ceiling fluorescent tube lights with blinding LED tubes. They glare over the entire store and reflect back up from their shiny floor. I can't even read the signs down the isle ways to find what I'm looking for. Everything is getting blurry when I have to see with LED lights. I will bet money that some time down the road they're going to finally discover the damage that's being done to people's eyes. We look at LEDs on our phones, computers, TVs, and now these blinding headlights - I literally will slow down and veer to the right side of my lane because it looks like some of these big pickups many of which have 4 headlights now might sideswipe me and I can't see. I don't like driving blind. If something's on the street and I'm being blinded by oncoming lights I'm not going to see what's on the street. There's a restaurant back in an industrial area where all of the big storage units have put big LED lights and they shine right at you when you drive past where people are parking along the street to go o the restaurant. If someone steps out from behind a car to cross the street to get to their care you won't be able to see them. I really think it's only a matter of time before someone gets hit there. Again, the ONLY PROBLEM is LED lights being installed everywhere now and especially in headlights. We could all see just fine before without these things. It's infuriating they're allowed - they are a road hazard to all oncoming traffic.
I hear an optometric association has come out against super bright headlights being available. When people have the

@@Chainsawhappy
Ok so come on and tell me the problem??
Youre not talking about the fact that LEDs dont typically have auto levelers!!! Old HID headlamps had them required by law!
The main point of the video deals with properly adjusting your light level. The video is aimed at the entire world where many vehicles would never have come equipped with that feature or where it is not a legal requirement. Currently it’s only in the USA that bi-xenon lights require that feature and a lot of Europe. However for the other 90% of the world it’s not normally a requirement so understanding the fundamental issue will help users deal with it whether or not the vehicle was equipped. I agree it is a useful feature and one that should be standard on all modern vehicles but unfortunately that’s not the case right now. Many vehicles are coming with manual light level adjustment by means of a knob or dial in the cabin but that still depends on user input and does not help in changing circumstances while driving.
Please give us some information to help us understand the colour temperatures and kevins.
We will probably do an led specific feature in the near future that will cover those areas as well
@@redlinesgarage Better Yet, Tell Us WHO To Contact On The Federal Highway Safety Commission, To OUTLAW These Damn Dangerous Blinding Things, So They Become ILLEGAL. These powerful headlights have been poorly designed because they're not self-leveling. Goodbye in that with poor quality paving in the vehicle's pitch up and down and it looks like headlights are being flashed at you when it's just the narrow beam oscillating. Somebody must have taken a bribe from the headlight industry or it's just unrestrained capitalism fueling re-election money. As usual the public interes t be damned.
I would like a method to know for sure if the people having dimmed. In 1958 headlights were separated so you could tell decisively and quickly. whether or not the oncoming vehicle had failed to dim. Today they're crammed together so you can't tell other than based on volume. One way they could do it is make brights a different color than dims.
Love it Chris, very informative article, well done 👍👍👍
Ahhh boy Chris. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Nice bruh. Gotta get in some riding vids in the future LOL
A major advantage of LED lights is they can control the color of the light. The manufacturers just need to specify a more yellowish color for the LEDs, the cost of building the things will remain virtually the same. For a few years now they have been stuck on this ^$% idea that these blue terrorizers are better LEDs the mimick the old halogen bulbs. We don't need expensive new technology, we need reliable well designed products.
There should be a law that the trucks and SUVs must still have their headlights within a range of height above the ground, regardless of how tall the truck is or if the &^ thing is lifted.
I agree better regulation is important. And yes 6000k is the most common color temperature available not because it is best for us to see but it’s a balance between what most people think looks cool and what could be considered a fair amount of light that we can see. I’m just thankful that the rage of 8-12000k bulbs that was popular a decade or so ago has died down.
High beams are brighter because high beams are usually a completely separate light bulb AND housing from low beams! What you said is simply not true! I even had two cars with halogen high beams and HID auto leveling low beams.
I keep my headlamps and my glass clean, but driving a normal car with LEDs like mine, is still impossible with tall vehicles(Cadillac, Jeep) or badly designed headlights(Tesla, new Toyotas) which use LEDs without auto leveling. Auto leveling used to be STANDARD on cars with HID headlamps(90s and 00s). Now with LEDs its not? Wtf
Thanks for your feedback. While it’s true that many vehicles do come with separate housings for the high beam, the bulb output in lumens is usually very close to the low beam bulb. For example on vehicles with halogen bulbs they are usually within just 5watts of each other /‘s not enough to make a substantial difference. The main difference’s is usually the reflector design and angle which projects the light at a higher angle almost like more of a flood light as opposed to a narrower focused beam with a more distinct cut off on the low beam. As a result they tend to help you see a little farther and more around you but simultaneously blinding other oncoming drivers.
We know who it is with these super bright lights
And then a lesson in sunset, sunlight glare is ? what to do? Then headlight high beam glare......? What to do? DUDE
*Turning on my high beams, they DEFINITELY get brighter, I got 18k lumens between my two Hikari high beam led bulbs*
Many or most led kits allow for both diodes to remain lit when going from high to low beam. Most halogen and other bulbs however only use one filament at a time. This still isn’t the main reason for blinding on coming traffic but only amplifies the issue if the bulbs are not angled correctly
@Redline's Garage I don't have headlights that share high/ low beam in one housing. High, and low are separate. I know all that other stuff. I was replying to the part of you saying "High beams don't get brighter, they are just angled higher". Which was partly false, because the high beam holds no purpose if it doesn't get brighter than a low beam. But yes they are angled 🤣
@@mrman8856 Understood. The light output from the high beam and low beam are the same. Of course when both are on you would have double the light output with both on. One bulb is not brighter than the other. The angle is what makes it appear to shine brighter because it makes the light throw farther and wider along with the double output.
@Redline's Garage No it's not lol. Why you keep saying that sir??? Low beam bulbs have less intensity with a shorter throw, high beam bulbs have a higher intensity with a longer throw. I don't think you thought this all the way through on how headlights work. Whether with or without led bulbs.
@@mrman8856 There is no differentiation between a low beam or high beam bulb. The only thing that makes them different is their usage. Most bulb types/codes are used in many applications including low or high beam or fog light. If you look at most manufacturer models all their bulbs of a certain model boast the same wattage/lumen output. There are in fact several headlights designs that use the exact same bulb for both high and low beam and if you were to swap them they would output the same amount of light. The voltage going to both harnesses is the same. Now if you intentionally or inadvertently buy two different model or type bulbs that have different light outputs then of course you will get different results but that is not because the bulb was designed for a high or low beam purpose. Also many headlights now use one bulb that serves as both high and low beam bulb and the only thing that happens is the reflector at the back of the bulb uses a motor to switch the angle when you change. Further proof of this is the staple servo type h4 hid upgrade that was the industry standard in his swap outs for years and did just that by using a motor to pull the bulb forward or back a small distance simulating the variation in filament separation from the halogen bulbs they were designed to replace. This is not my opinion just a fact. And after 20 years in the industry, selling and using thousands of different bulb types and technologies and having training for each one I have given it much thought. But if you still don’t believe I guess we can agree to disagree.
Contact your congressperson and pressure them to make law to adjust or change headlights. Tell law enforcement to fine anyone especially with them on in daytime. There is NO time we can drive or see now. Babies and animals are harmed also!!!!
Also depends on the load the vehicle is carrying, if the rear of the vehicle is weighed down the headlights are aiming higher.
Yes that is true so you need to set it up based on your most common load. Some vehicles that are designed to carry loads regularly have self levelling lights or have a few adjustment options on a switch in the cabin to help control this variation. For most passenger vehicles the difference in angle for rated loads shouldn't be so major it causes a massive change but it does need to be a consideration when setting the angle.
How the government allowed these jackass Lights to be used is beyond me.
The government is just not doing its job to protect public safety so what else is new
