I seriously don't get why auto reviewers don't have enough understanding of the difference between a live rear axle and IRS, and its impact on payload and towing capacity. The BYD Shark is IRS, the SAME as a Ford Raptor and guess what, it has the same towing capacity as a Ford Raptor, but get this, it actually had a greater payload weight 790kg than the 717kg the raptor has. If your referring to the car expert failure that was a pre production model. Someone else has done the same hill on the production version and it passed with flying colours.
I'd genuinely like to see a real-world tow test with one of these. Like, hook up a 2ish tonne load and head up the Alpine Way in the NSW Snowy Mountains. How long will the battery last in that sort of sustained steep uphill climb (in Hybrid mode of course)? Can the petrol motor keep on top of the energy consumption required, and if it depletes the battery completely can the 1.5L motor reasonably handle the load? Can the battery and hybrid system handle the heat this will generate? The dynamic braking should be a huge advantage in this situation, but I'm otherwise suspicious on it's capability to handle a sustained load. I'd also be quite happy be proven wrong. @BYD - want to loan me one and I'll run this exact test for you? If it passes you might have a convert.

and a great looking front end
4. 1 inside
Can't wait to see the full electric version of that thing.
There won't be anytime soon
@liuyangyang it would be an easy "parts bin special" for BYD. They could put the 100kWh pack from the Tang SUV and call it done.
Hi. Is there an OEM canopy option for the tray? Also, liked the back power points for the portable fridge.
The BYD has definitely come along way. But it’s still no competition for the GMC Denali EV truck. But definitely a great truck for the money.
It would want to be at 3 times the cost, Denali is $107,000 US, if this was available there it would be $ 35,500, anyway makes no difference as the US won't get this vehicle, so happy spending your hard earned on your Denali.

Amazing product.
The big question that we need to know is that, can this BYD tow either a large horse float or caravan on a long journey easily ????
My guy, if you watched the video or read you can see it's 2.5t max towing, so "no" it cannot. This will find lots of "friends" in trades given they can charge their battery tools (or run them) straight from the vehicle on a job site. Horses (pun intended) for courses.
wow.the display is great!
I really want to get this car, but they’re all out - no clue when I’ll get my turn
It would cool be they bring an SUV wagon to market, with the same front end and a shorter boot with a XL version the same length as the Ute.
The BYD Denza B5 4wd suv is coming to Australia , 675hp, 750nm, height adjustable suspension and a shed load of luxury.
BTW Honda Ridgeline 718 payload, 2268 Towing....
Anywhoo entertaining summarisation of the Shark.
Thank you for a informative review. Seems like the shark isn’t scared of the mud puddles. So China is doing better than Japan.
Doing better than toyota...anything over shoe height in the water and toyota will wipe any warranty claim for water ingress........

Found a tow test review. Consumption highway towing was 20l/100km! Close to a V8 Patrol.
What about seat adjuster memory?
I don't think people realise how much weight 2.5 tonne is. Honestly if you need to tow 3.5 tonnes you need a truck.
The max range on paper was mostly 500kms 3 years ago for many EVs. And this year max range reach 1000kms. It is 500kms increase in three years, or doubled in three years. What would happen in next three years? anther 500kms up to 1500kms? or...double again into 2000kms? What would happen in ten years?
So....where was the offroad test. C'mon guys, either do it properly or skip it. My 2wd 1976 Ford Escort could have driven down that track.
I want to see a review where say a family of 4 go offgrid camping in a fully loaded and towing to spec Shark6 (GVM and GCM). Then tell us how it went including handling, driving experience, fuel consumption and range. Not this theoretical BS 100KM EV and total 800km range and scripted light weight driver only review.
Typical ICE Hater !
I learnt to drive in a Falcon XB coupe with the proud Geelong V8, could chew up any Escort or Cortina or whatever, but that's all in the past and we simply don't live there no more. Suffice to say I'll take the BYD in a blink, sorry mate.
@@Voxabonable I was not into V8s back in the day hence my Escort. My comment has nothing to do with whether I would prefer a car from the 70s or the Shark, I quite like the Shark but I won't stand for reviews which test a vehicle within an environment which isn't up to par. The tactic is pathetic

It’s not terrible - tweak the settings a bit and it sounds nice. Some people complain it isn’t loud enough but listening to music isn’t always about making your ears bleed. I’d rather have crisp clear sound than loud distorted bullshit.
Anyway it went as loud as I wanted it to go and still had some left - I usually upgrade all of my sound systems with premium gear but I don’t think I will worry about it for now.
Dynaudiois a well respected name in loudspeakers , the system in the Shark has a very clean detailed "Hi Fi " type sound. The time alignment and other adjustments are great. I like it .

Fuel economy is relevant to most people..... I can never understand why cars without the prime feature being extreme performance..... use premium unleaded, with the associated extra cost. The rest of the specs look interesting.
