you can fire two guns at a time with this thing, since half the guns are considered "small-caliber" and the other two are "large-caliber", even though the guns are all identical. It also has the late Bf-109 problem of the prop being too small, so below 200kph IAS, 100% WEP does not produce more thrust, sometimes actually producing less thrust than 100% (generally, this is only below 2000m altitude and 200kph speed).
I believe the pilot has two different triggers to fire the different guns. So no real modeling issues made by Gaijin.
Nah, 100% never produces more thrust than WEP in La 9 at low speed. WEP is always better. In case of K4, lowering thrust also doesn't ever increase thrust. Changing prop pitch is something different.

109 prop pitch is quit different from other props tho
It's because La-9 had separated guns, much like the F2 Sabre
@@Alpakinator it's a result of the constant-speed prop needing such a high pitch angle for the airspeed/engine power that it effectively "stalls" and has a massive drop in thrust produced. The solution is to gain speed or reduce power, both of which bring the prop pitch back down to a working angle. In war thunder, Manually adjusting prop pitch changes the engine rpm for every plane except German ones.
The guns make the la-9 so much fun lol. Had a lot of fun with it grinding early Russian jets.

Since the guns in the La-9 are pretty potent i would recommend turning on weapon selection. You can split them up in pairs instead of going with all 4 at the same time and it saves a lot of ammo.

Been playing with 3 friends at 6.3 as one of them unlocked the p51H, and I've been averaging 2 to 3 kills and gotten 3 aces with this thing, it's such a fun plane and it's very good as well imo, I've been getting better at air battles thanks to you and Jengar as well, thanks for all the videos defyn

@@atif1538 late 109s are pretty average actually, very slow and don't turn well in the one circle (quick nose to nose dogfight), they're good if the enemy plays bad. which is the common situation and that's why they thrive

@@atif1538 it's the opposite, the later they are, the better. The first Anton thought is very agile. The D9 and the Ta152H are quite good. The C version however is very stale and only relies on people taking head ons

This is one of my favorite props, and one of the few i have the kill unlockable camo for cus i liked flying it, the guns are so destrictive you can aim like your in a jet battle and just onliterate people in one burst

F2G damage model is kind of insane
yes, the la9 instead doesn't have a good damage model, just because Defyn knows how to dodge a barrage and gets a scratch from the quicker empty AP tracers doesn't mean the la9 has good ammo resistance. I've literally spent 4 30mm shots on F2Gs whenever I go with the J5N1

yeah you are right, its still fun do play with against noobs in their p51H and F2Gs though, as winning fights against them isn't too hard considering the average iq of us players. 23mm kill everything in 1 burst.

the La-9 looks comical but in a scary way if you know it
Two things ,la 9 has couple of firing mods all guns or only upper guns or lower guns this really saves ammo if you use all four on bombers and when needed (headons) and in any other case is two guns very enough , and next thing is that you underustimate diving perfomance of this plane you out dive people and i mean sometime by far and if you not out diving them la 9 outruns them in log run(all japanes planes ,ta 152 h1(not even close diving perfomanse) spit 9 also ) and i sometimes use to my adventage like ki 84 he can be 2 km above you and you dive just 1 km and you pickup same speed or simular then just out energy them because when after 5 sec of going strait line you go 690kph and he (many planes ) 500-600 you have energy to out climb them because you started with higher speed, and this thing actually has problem with bf109 k4 not with f2g (of course by mine opinion )

As a jack of all trades, the la-9 always has an advantage over its opponents. It means when it's dictating the terms of the fight, it's very very good. So, in the hands of an experienced pilot, this is one of the most terrifying aircraft you can face.
Without dictating the terms, its comparatively weak (hence having a plane on your 6 is a problem). But that doesnt matter if one chooses to fight you

The fact that some players skip prop combat and learning curve by the means of buying top tier premiums is the reason premium vehicle users suck shit 9 out of 10 times. God damn, prop combat is satisfying! (climbing is not though)
I was messing around with MEC controls for the tempest mk2. And someone I’ve seen in air matches for a long time helped me out, did some simulations and checked what the competition was like. Of course p47’s are a problem and yak vk107 is kinda built different. But the tempest does a top speed of 723 at 3657. So and the minimum load is 500kg less than an f2g. 2748 is top horsepower. The f2g makes 3054 takeoff. So stick to your strong suit and you should be okay

Well done! Do you like the LA 11 any better as it is 5.3? It feels like you did a video on it not too long ago but not sure. 23s are better these days, I had a hard time adjusting to their velocity. I spaded the ussr one at 5.7 in better days
Don't know if this is too late or not, but the La-11 is absolutely hot trash. On paper, it looks like an La-9 with one less gun and slightly less engine power at a significantly lower BR, but that couldn't be further from reality.
My best summary of it is like if the Soviets tried copying the P-47 and completely fell short. It doesn't climb particularly fast, its maneuverability is noticably lacking compared to its peers, the guns hit hard but lack ammo and have incredibly low velocity that make head-ons and target leading a pain, and really the only good thing about it is the speed that allows you to dive away in certain circumstances. And just to dash salt onto the wound, you usually get uptiered to 6.0 where you see La-9s that do everything you do but better. In fact, I'd go as far as to say the La-11 is almost totally inferior to the Yak-3P, since the ShVAKs hit nearly as hard now, they get way more ammo, and besides the rip speed the Yak-3 airframe does nearly everything better than the La-11.
I'm 100% serious when I say that the IL-10 has offered more in regards to dogfighting.
Love using this plane in Ground RB the 23s have enough power to slap the crap out of most tanks at its BR from the roof and a good burst will land you a nice load of kills on unsuspecting air spawns
Hey man, I'm a new sub, and after watching a lot of your content, what would be your top 3 fighters to use in ground rb to counter cas?
My picks would be
1. Bf-109 F-K variants (Germany)
2. P-47 (without bomb loadout)
if you want a more nimble fighter I would pick a corsair. (USA)
3. Yak-9 (USSR)
1) Spitfires. Especially from the Mk5 upward. The LF is absurdly capable. You can bully the sh*t out of almost every opponent. Stay low and pounce them just when they feel save.
2) BF-109 G2 and friends like already mentioned Minengeschoss go brrrr.
3) LA-7 and some Yaks.
4) XP-50...
5) ITP

Yeah, as far as 6.0-6.3 fighters go, the Ta 152 H-1 is probably hands-down the best. Speed is good, climb is nice (+ air spawn too), maneuverability is decent but can be pushed to amazing with use of takeoff and landing flaps, guns not only slap but also have a decent ammo capacity (especially for Germany), and the energy retention it gets is amazing. Only thing it can't do is ground pound very well. I've flown the La-9 (mostly in Air AB and it's decent there) but in RB? Nah, this ain't it chief.
I have to be honest, I was really intrigued when you said you wanted to land because I don't think I've ever seen you actually land in a match.

Not at that br. The yak3u is a better plane at a lower br. La9 is a little faster and has a better dive speed but the yak is much better at lower altitude. More maneuverable, better energy retention, better acceleration. I prefer the 20s over the 23s but that's mostly preference. I would rather fly the yak at 6.0 than this
played this thing for a while, and i definitely agree that F2G is the largest threat for this plane.
Just when I am grinding Mig-9...randomly I have this to watch so I know if I should buy it...or no.
Not to break your bubble, but the mig 9 is a flying brick. I've been grinding the mig 15 lately almost there. The mig 9 doesn't turn very well, low energy retention and subpar acceleration. You just have to stick to teammates and help them in dogfights that's all you can do

@@sosobel5843 Yeah that's true. Su-9 sucks at air rb but it's decent in Ground RB as cas. That 500kg bomb is good and the guns with ground belts can take out light tanks and ifvs very efficiently.

as someone who got through the whole Japanese tech tree, don't fly the Ki61's, there are much better planes for Japan. Japanese planes can gain speed and altitude out of nowhere, when I was playing the KI61's this wasn't the case
Edit: The planes I used the most were "Ki-43 III otsu", "A7M2" and "J7W1"

It's a very rewarding aircraft if you have little bits of succes in it. Probably because it's tiered a lot higher than it actually should be.
@@martijn9568 Unfortunately it flies straight up worse than the Ki-61-I at the same battlerating. It's barely any faster, loses a bunch of the maneuverability and firepower the I Hei has and still compresses just as badly.
Doubt Defyn is going to fly something so bad. He flew the La9 because everyone requested it and he's suffering. He also suffers if the plane doesn't have any remarkable advantage over the enemy (say the Mirages which are ridiculous one circle kings that either have to be played as f104s or you won't take a 1vX because of the bad energy retention)

IIRC boils down to "You have to bait enemy into a dogfight. If they go in and you don't fuck up - they're dead because your plane is simply better at it. But if they don't commit its extremely annoying, and there's not much you can do about it".
Also, HIspanos are ok. Not great, not terrible.

Honestly I think the AAA on the airfield should have 45 seconds from when you land so you can repair and start to take off but after that it turns off, its such a bad mechanic people rely on when they mess up in a fight and run away with either damage or no ammo, such a crutch and it's terrible

@@sus5976 is it? I assume your one of the people to camp AAA then, an AI unit based on rng which can reliably and accurately 3 tap your plane at up to 7km away? How is that balanced? Either remove it nerf it or comprise along the lines of a suggestion like mine
I think removing AAA entirely is also valid too. For a single life gamemode, the repair feature of the AF should be considered a bonus and not a given. If you got critically damaged, don't feel entitled to get repaired while protected by AAA basically.
The main reason for the AF would be to serve as the starting point (of course) and a rearming point for when the game might drag out due to a bomber or something like that. And considering that rearming is a thing only needed when you have the luxury of doing so, AAA should not be there to protect you. In fact if you only are there to rearm, you can just J out as your protection if you really have to and hopefully the enemy realizes too that they need to give you room to take off (as the one on the AF you'd probably be at a disadvantage, but that's the situation you put yourself in). I guess the only advantage of AAA is that without it many players would probably just do circles above the enemy AF, without realizing they are sabotaging themselves at that point... but I think that's better than people now camping AF using the AAA.
@@CyberRelic280 there if a huge difference between winning fights and going to re-arm,refuel and repair then spraying all of it in a etrended dogfight where both pilots make mistakes and then proceeding to try to eun to the AAA for your get out of free jail card, ARB is a 1 life mode the airfield alone is a bonus thay it repairs you realistic as it is the AAA makes it feel like a expected and not a privilege as it should be treated
@@CyberRelic280 there's nothing wrong with going to AF to repair or rearm (if you can, do it, why not), it is however (imo) wrong to get protected by AAA while doing so.
Having to repair or rearm is usually a product or your own mistakes when playing, so treat repairing/rearming as a bonus if you do get away with it unscathed. You shouldn't essentially have a free retry due to AAA scaring off/killing enemy planes for you.
When it comes to Spitfires, in Re.2005 I win almost all dogfights, they follow the exact same scenario: Spitfire is higher and faster (not surprising, because it is faster and it climbs better), he dives on me, I dodge, he overshoots, he tries to escape, but I'm in range to get a shot before they slow down and outrate me, done. Always the same. Of course if Spitfire pilot is smart, he wins it without much issue. But apparently they really want Re.2005 to go to 6.0, lol.

Man this plane is a huge hunk of ass. I say that but I actually enjoy it because of the guns at this br, I like the 23MMs normally, so for props it is Godly. Other than that, you gotta have decent aim with this aircraft and you gotta have the geometry of dog fighting completely down pat. Think of this as like a Russian FW190 A series, with a little bit better power to weight. Your utility is just a little better than that of a FW, or corsair even. So maybe a Russian Corsair, lol.

Here's my two sense for playing 99% of heavy fighters: 1. _CLIMB_ . The No. 1 strength of a heavy fighter is its ability to head-on and boom-n-zoom, and you can't do that if the enemy is above you. Also, never turn-fight anything, because you WILL lose. So climb as high as you can, and proceed to pick off the highest targets in head-ons or hit-and-run engagements. The one aircraft that breaks this rule is the SM.92, which does all of the above, but can also turnfight most enemies. But otherwise, prepare to be severely dissatisfied with the heavy fighter's performance.

I think is all about taking a chance since if the enemy plane you fighting with are superior and emne player is somewhat competent, there is nothing to hold back.
For me La-9 is a early jet Hunter, F-80, mig 9, F-89 and some F-84 cant do anything against you

I probably wouldn't. Firstly, because it's 1.0/1.3 BR above either of the La-7 models, while gaining very little in terms of flight performance, so you'll usually get enemies that can out-climb you, out-turn you, or both. The four 23s are potent, but have screw-all in regards to ammo (only like 75 rounds-per-gun I think), and you'll waste a fair amount of them too due to the pretty low velocity. This is for RB though, thing's a blast in AB from what I remember. Otherwise? Nah, just get the Yak-3U instead.
What belts are recommended for soviet 20mm?
Tracer and Ground belts seem to be pretty good on the ShVAKs, as they deliver some good HE damage, though having the AP in the ground belt for pilot snipes is cool too. Dunno why the ground belt has mostly HE shells though lol.
This is the sort of plane I like for Ground RB where pilots are even more "stupid" then Air RB

If possible, please revisit the 109 K-4. Lots of F2Gs around and at the moment I'm only beating (some of) them due to poor pilots.

I only have three prop fighters left to spade in China, the P-51K, the La-11, and the La-9. Honestly, I'm not looking forward to it at all. All I hear is that they're hard enough to use even when spaded, and I'll be stock grinding them. I fucking hate how planes are barely balanced on the spaded performance, and stock planes are just left to twist in the wind.

The elevator compression is unbearable on it though as far as I remember. La-5s were my favorite planes way way back in old WT though. At some point the FM got changed.
