Note: In this video, we did the full startup process at the gate for demo purposes. If you're following real world procedures, you'll want to close doors, remove chocks, and push back before engine start.

@@kolavadae4592 no 😢 would be nice wouldn’t it?
@@TiJayFLY lol as somehow who has gotten severe used to it ya.. but I guess i gotta enjoy the entire $99
I have to say. Out of all the tutorials I've looked at, you have been straight to the point and not gone around the houses. Thank you. :)
I try my best, that means a lot :) thank you
This was fabulous! Very subtle departures from c/d startup for Zibo 738 in x-plane but you nailed it and helped me immensely! Love the straight forward explanation. Saves time and promotes clarity! 10/10 on this vid!
An extremely useful tutorial. Very well articulated and direct to the point. Best I’ve seen so far on this topic. Many thanks TiJay. Subscribed.
I just got this plane today. Looking forward to learning how to fly it as I did the A320. With that said your video tutorial was outstanding. You took your time and explained everything in detail. You didn't rush through it like a lot of these guys do. Thank you. I am going to look for your flight tutorial video so I can take my first flight today.
You absolute legend. When I was learning to fly this plane a while ago I was looking for dark n cold guides but they all just went over so much unneeded info and were incredibly long. This is straight to the point with exactly the information you need and nothing else, just perfect! Thanks my man
I love the simplicity and shortness of your videos, thank you again!
Great work, no unnecessary info, straight through the process. Very useful to clear up a few things I was confused by. (Coming from the airbus it's all so condensed on that aircraft)
Excellent mate! To the point and spot on tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for creating this video.
Great tutorial saves me a lot of time and knowing seeing a better visual of what to turn on/off
Your tutorials are great! Straight to the point! Thank you very much indeed...
Best video Ive found so far on cold and dark. Thanks for keeping it simple.
This is the BEST tutorial for starting up the PMDG 737-800 for beginners. Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I really needed this video for a long time. You go straight to the point howcome i couldn't see you before?!! Again, thank you so much.
Super helpful tutorial! I'm still trying to learn my way around MSFS, and I bought the PMDG 737-9, so learning to cold start it did wonders.
thanks man i finally figured out why my plane wouldn't start. best tutorial i've seen straight to the point and clear
thanks, i was always disappointed what should i do, and your tutorial helped me a lot!! now i found out that it isnt hard to start the 737, thank you again
Tremendous best tutorial I have seen, practical, clear and very helpful thanks.
I've watched quite a few tutorials and they are good but hopeless because of one main reason.
Well, they start of with a cold and dark aircraft and start telling you how to get the thing up and running, Great but no good to me as my plane is up and running.
You started off with how to get it into the cold & dark settings which is what I needed to know but everyone seemed to miss that one.
Finally, 👍👍 Now I can follow your tutorial and start learning how to set up the plane from cold & dark which I now know how to get the plane into that position.
Thank you very much TiJayFLY.
I have also now subscribed.
Thanks for video, just what I needed! Great job!

Thank you very much for your tutorial! It's really helpful
Thank you for your hard work. Highly Excellent tutorial. Simple, Strict, No Chasing around. 5*.
Fast and simple, amazing
This was perfect and concise.
You don't need the standby power, you can start the L fuel pump or R and start the APU, you can then align the IRS and continue with the checklist, Also when starting the engine, wait till the No. Reads 25% before introducing fuel
Yup - someone mentioned the standby power a little earlier. It was just because this was an old X Plane checklist I carried across to MSFS.
As for the N1 reading 25%, the fuel system wasn’t modelled to this level of detail at the time the video was made - you could introduce fuel straight after activating the starter.
Great man! On the point! Thank you.
It's nice to see switches, like those that activate the hydraulic pumps, actually work, instead of getting a generic message telling me it's "Inoperable".
Thank you for tutorial 👍😊😁
Thank you for this! With 737-800 finally out, I am not really interested in a 30 minutes tutorial just for a cold and dark like others I've seen these days.
Seems the longest part of startups is programming the FMC.
@@jeffallen5871 yup, for sure.
I'm about to speedrun this. Thanks!
Takes a little longer than shown here as you have to wait for the APU and engines to spool, but all the steps are here :)
I wrote all this down. Thanks for this man!
This looks pretty cool. I'm about to do my type rating in the 737. Couple things... I'm not sure on the merit of switching the standby to battery. Auto will provide the AC and DC standby buses with power either from the battery or AC buses depending which has power. I suppose other airlines may do this, but that step really is not necessary. Also, ideally you would wait IRL for 25% N2 to introduce fuel, unless it's stable above at least 20% (and you aren't getting more) and you're careful. Lastly, on the electrics, you cannot parallel AC power in the 737. Meaning when you manually select a new AC power source (APU or engine gens or GPU), it will automatically disconnect the previous source. This means that selecting APU gen switches to off is redundant and unnecessary. When you select engine generators on and the APU GEN OFF BUS light comes on, it means the APU gen is no longer powering any electrical bus. Even more lastly, it's actually only one APU generator. The 737 electric system is very ancient. The APU is connected to the tie bus which connects to AC transfer bus 1 and 2. That's what you're actually controlling with those two APU gen switches. This allows you regain two generators and power the off side system in the event an engine or its generator fails.
Yup fair. This is from an old checklist I had for x plane and adapted. I’m a flight sim player not a pilot, so don’t have the deep technical knowledge of why everything works, I just know it does :)
@@TiJayFLY hi do you have a pdf format I could have that’s the quickest I’ve seen and I’m struggling as coming from airbus

Merci beaucoup, c'est clair, c'est net et trop précis et c'est comme ça que mon 737-800 a démarré!
Best how/to by far. Good voice, clear and no dumb ass rambling
Bro your one of best
Thank U so much
Thank you
Great video and very straight to the point! however just a snippet of helpful info for you, you don't want to set cabin altitude to cruise altitude. typically commercial airlines don't want a cabin altitude over 10000 feet which is why it is set there automatically. anywhere from 8500 to 10000 is pretty normal because its the altitude pressure being felt inside the skin of the aircraft.
Interesting!
From the tutorials I watched years ago learning to fly the 737 in Xplane, you’re supposed to enter your cruise alt in this panel to tell the airplane what altitude you’re going to - so it can plan the speed at which to reduce/increase the cabin altitude (which is auto-set to 8000 and can’t be changed by the crew) during climb and descent.
I’ll go find some documentation - have I been doing it wrong all these years? 😂
thankyou so much
only good tutorial i found for the b737
perfect tutorial. however i have a one question. What the switch between those engine start knobs (on the overhead panel you set to ground) does? I know that is not required to start the engines, but i am just curious. Also, i saw that those knobs mentioned before have other mode, and what those other modes does?
aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/74824/what-are-the-cont-and-flt-modes-of-the-737-start-switches
you best broo
I believe for APU you can just toggle the switch to on and it runs up automatically, no need to hold
Thanks! I think that was a hangover from X Plane where you had to hold it for a second.
Did pmdg not add the realistic switches, batts, pump, trim etc sounds that the plane makes ie: like zibo? As I didn't hear anything in your tutorial. Thanks
The video volume is super low so you can hear the narration. All the sounds are there
amazing tutorial but what is the weird alarm that goes on after u disconnect the ground power cart?
There shouldn’t be one, check that your APU is running and APU bleed is on
How is it do we have finally have a fully unbugged Boeing ???
Also why don’t I see this yet in marketplace the concord was the same it always takes me 1 week longer than everyone else before I even see it in the marketplace …
Seems pretty good to me, but I think some people are encountering the odd minor thing.
This isn’t on the Marketplace yet, it’s on the PMDG website. Same with Concorde - that was available on the Just Flight website a week before the Marketplace. It’s because the Marketplace approval process takes extra time.
Yeah especially in vr there tend to be extra issues but I heard it comes with a nice price tag so I expect a lot out of this one 🙏
And thank you for that I’m not wasting any time about to check it out now thank you for that I didn’t know that I thought it was some issue on my end 😂 thank you for quick response and always helpful tips 🙏
Thank you so much for the tutorial but I have on issue and that is after the engines are started if I close the APU the aircraft shuts down. Do I leave ignition switch to CONT and then when I take off turn off the APU? Also, in the overhead panel I have the APU bleed off and next to the APU bleed the two switches are in ON position and I get the BLEED TRIP OFF lights are on. Can you please help me with this? Thank you
Are engine generators on? They’re the switches on the outer edges of the generator panel to the left.
yes
Takk!
Thank you for the superchat!
Hi, when i try to turn on the elec hyd pumps, it doesn't work. The lights don't go out, and the lights under the flight control switch guards don't extinguish either

how do i make it so it dosent automaticaly go into cold and dark state. I sometimes just wamt to do a landing but when i spawn in the air my door is open and a stairtruck is beside me and my engines are off sorry if i didint explane very well.
The first minute of the video explains how to set default state
very helpful but im having a issue when i turn my vnav on and my lnav the green line below it wont show

When i first watched this tutorial, i quickly learned how to start this plane up, but i took a break from msfs and needed a refresh. Now whenever i try to start the engines up how i used to it gives me a warning saying “Engine Fail” and “Start Valve Open” and “Low Oil Pressure” please help me.
check APU is on, available, APU gen is on. Essentially just make sure you follow the steps carefully
If only all TH-cam videos didn’t waist time like yours. Thank you
My MCDU is a dark screen when I load up. I tried to turn up the brightness and nothing. Any way to fix it? I can somehow configure and see all the panel lighting except the Navigation and MDCU lighting.
assuming your batteries are on, this sounds more like an installation issue. Seek support on the PMDG forums
Hi again. so I have followed your tutorial which is very good, but now and again, I just want to jump into it and fly straight away as I did before.
So I have tried my best to get it back to fully running already and I cannot do it?
The best I get is it is running, but the wheels are down when I click on the map so I am already up in the air and the front door is open and the cockpit is beeping away.
I even tried CRTL-E but nothing.
So maybe you should end, or do a tutorial on how to get it back to the way it is first installed?
Cheers.
Spawn on a ramp, activate batteries, set the default state in the FMC to “ready” or whatever it’s called, then start a new flight on a runway… should work.
@@TiJayFLY Bloody Eccles Cakes. We’re you sat there waiting for my message🤔 fastest reply yet 👍😀😀😀
When I try taking off, increasing my throttle, a beeping noise comes on saying Takeoff config. Any idea what this is and how to sort it out?
Yup. It means something isn’t right. Make sure flaps are set in accordance with the FMC, spoilers are not armed, and auto brake is RTO. All covered in my full flight tutorial linked in the pinned comment.
Hi i have a question? What is a purpose of switching stdb power to battery? In some startup videos of real planes they usually start battery and ground power without using stdb power switch
Unnecessary, it was just left over from an old x plane checklist
@@TiJayFLY okay, thank you. Tutorial is amazing btw
@@TiJayFLY i acctualy have another question. so after switching on the apu you disconected the ground power using the fmc. Can i turn off the ground power switch instead?
@@antinetpl both - the option on the FMC is a simulator thing that physically despawns the ground power cart
when i take off, the auto throttle kicks in and chops the throttle and i stall out. why is this and how can i stop that from happening?
It’s probably the MSFS flight assists interfering th-cam.com/video/iImh5k9iocE/w-d-xo.html
Engines are started yet when i use the throttle only my left engine works and not the right
Check whether the throttle in the airplane is moving. Could just be an axis assignment
really great tutorial but when I remove the ground power cart it starts beeping at me and I don't know how to stop it
APU must be on, available, and APU gen must be on. If you’ve checked all that, please post a video in discord linked in description so I can look
I have always wondered why window heat is turned on in the initial stages of the checklist? Why can't they be switched on with the probe heat after startup?
They can - I just had them at this point in an old x plane checklist and adapted it
Window heat needs to be on a minimum of ten minutes before takeoff. At airports with a short taxi, you might be sitting there waiting if you don't turn them on till after start.
I’m confused I can move some of the switches on Xbox over tried to set the IRS and it wouldn’t work
Yeah you just need to make sure you understand the control scheme for your platform - it’s different on Xbox with a controller and the “Lock” scheme than it is on PC with a mouse. All the switches operate on Xbox too.
Whenever I start the game the plane is already on the runway and engines running. How to stop that?
If you watch literally the first minute of this video, it tells you how
I've turned the aircraft on, was already waiting after pushback and I couldn't get the aircraft to move. I see the throttle lever moving as well as engines move while in reverse thrust. You think it's a bug or I just did something wrong ?
I figured that it works once in a while when I keep pressing ctrl + e but affects one engine only

I think they’re toggle-able on the EFB now. Why are you disappointed?
@@TiJayFLY oh ok thanks for replying also i was disappointed but now not so much I'm actually impressed this is my first study level airplane also I have something else to say I'm finding it a bit hard to use my rudder on the ground why is that?
@@Superjet853 probably got nose wheel steering disabled. Check the “toggle nose wheel steering” key bind in sim options and use that to switch it on/off
I found out why all these glitches where happening also I dont think it was a glitch so what I did was I pressed taxi on my start up state and now my plane works
Nice vid where can I find a check list?
I think there’s an on-screen one in the sim itself if you open “checklist” from the top menu. Alternatively, it’s probably helpful to make your own notes as that way they’ll make sense to you.
@@TiJayFLY thks
information is good, just moving through too fast for me, I spend more time looking for the cockpit area the video is referring too.. the FMC clicks were so fast I had to go frame by frame.
I always recommend pausing along the way and making notes before flying. Don’t try to write it down or fly while it’s playing!
Please, how do I turn it off so that I don't see the inscriptions when I move the mouse over any button in the cockpit?

Empty tanks will show as low pressure - check in the sim’s loadout menu how much fuel there is, and how the fuel is distributed. Could also just be that your APU isn’t up to speed yet, and APU gen isn’t working yet
