    I am an Airline Pilot flying the 737 in Europe, so I dare to say i know what im Talking about.
    Sorry to say this:
    The video was a nice little and small overview of some Systems on the 737 and what they are linked to and connected with, But the title is misleading as this is Not in the slightest way how to get a 737 from Cold and Dark to Ready to Taxi.
    I am well aware every Airline has their own SOP's but this video has shown absolutely no logic, and as many times stated, there were just many mistakes, some of them possibly leading to very dangerous situations in real life like no Fire test before starting the APU.
    BAA Training: I would suggest you change the title or make a new video, i do appreciate that this is a Great look into Aviation for People that have no Clue yet But are interested. However it doesnt take a type rated Pilot to Note the Lack of Quality this video was done with. This video could damage your reputation because maybe a soon to be flight Student will Look at this video and Spot the flaws and will then Decide to choose a different flight school.
    Kind regards

      Johnrell Perez They requested VFR clearance but the ATC gave them a flight route... Then they proceeded to readback wrongly “cleared VFR” and the ATC said readback correct. And no, you can’t even have VFR clearance with engines off.

    Wow. Incredibly disappointing. I can’t believe you teach the pilots of today if your training is is like this. Here is a few faults.
    - Aligning the IRS without AC power.
    - Not doing the APU fire test before starting it.
    - Entering the WHOLE ROUTE in the FMC without AC power.
    - When doing the walk around, electric hydraulic pumps need to be on to check for leaks.
    - Called Gatwick on the Flight Intercom? You didn’t select VHF1.
    Here is just a few. This makes your training program look incredibly bad.

    • @marshallhogan3440
      @marshallhogan3440 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jack Mackey never said they were training anyone, but they could put a bit of realism into what they are doing. They are showing a procedure that those pilots have been taught to do a flow somewhat like this. This is an incredibly wrong flow, and for anyone watching they should be told to not take this seriously.

    • @thecomedypilot5894
      @thecomedypilot5894 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They did show a bit of realism... actually a lot. They went over the basic and most crucial things. So what if they didn’t use AC power? Most the people (if not, all) watching this video aren’t type-rated for a 737 and this flight was just a simulator. You don’t need to hate on how other people do things. Europeans have different operations you should know.... They did a good, basic job....

  • @6axe1man5
    @6axe1man5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    You had ground power available the entire time....why was it never used? In real life, if you turned on the battery and then the IRS’s and didn’t use the ground power or APU, and continued entering the route etc, you’d have a VERY loud alarm start sounding......this would cause cabin crew to ask if they should get off the aircraft and ground crew to start looking up at you in case they should leave the aircraft etc
    Not blaming the guys as they’re doing what they’ve been taught, but it does go to show the BAA aren’t training correctly.
    Oh my god it gets worse......you didn’t do a fire protection test before starting the APU......if the fire detection was faulty, you’d never know the APU was on fire until ground personnel start running away.

    • @andreascaniaris5173
      @andreascaniaris5173 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They didn't mention the ground power but that doesn't mean that it wasn't on. The ground power switch has a guard on it so we can't see if it was on or not but since all the lights came on when the battery switch was turned on it most likely was being used but we can't see it and be sure about it.
      About the fire test, I agree with you and BAA isn't showing that it is the best since most pilots barely speak english. I think it will be hard for these pilots to join a european airline at least.

    • @6axe1man5
      @6axe1man5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Andrew Can the ground power switch doesn’t have a guard around it......and you can tell it was left off because A) he didn’t touch it and B) The FO’s displays didn’t come on until after the APU was turned on the the APU was brought into the buses.

    Cool. I fly the 737NG on my flight simulator and soon I am going to fly for Southwest. I’ve noticed that most pilots in Europe don’t use ground power rather they start the APU upon startup

    • @Daniel_JS
      @Daniel_JS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's extremely inaccurate. This whole video is, really. Most airports over here have an APU usage restriction of 5 minutes after arrival and 5 minutes before departure, so that alone renders using the APU instead of ground power impossible, not to mention the cost of running the APU for that long compared to the GPU. I've spoken to a few pilots working for Ryanair, the APU is turned on pretty much only when it's needed, so for the pushback and taxi in, really, and even then it's limited as much as it can be, for example, the APU's only started around the time the pilots think it'll come online just as they come onto the stand. Wish you the best of luck with Southwest!

      Can use either (including left centre tank) - makes sense when you look at the fuel system schematic. Using AC pumps is to reduce wear on the APU DC fuel pump (which I *think* is integrated).

      It is not "flawed" - it is meant to give people who are considering going to BAA a glimpse of what to expect. That's why the pilots are cadets. It is not meant to be a definitive statement on how to start a 737. It's just there to show people who are considering becoming airline pilots what sort of thing the training involves. It says in the bottom right corner, DO NOT USE FOR TRAINING PURPOSES.

    Sorry to be reading so many negative and rude comments from so many "Know-it-Alls" below :-( If you haven't noticed, these young men are wearing TWO stripes, not three or even four (!!), suggesting that these people are STUDENT pilots. Students are entitled to make mistakes. For this reason, they obviously train in the sim. Nice to know that so many of you below are sooo much better, but you all started off somewhere and made your mistakes, too. So please be more tolerant with a bit of empathy and, if the critisism is negative, then it should at least be positive so these guys can learn from it. P.S. --- furthermore, these two young men said loud and clear, that they deliberately omitted certain check procedures, since they were in a sim. Listening and reading the video description would have helped before exercising negativity here...

    Why do everybody so negative about the video? Yeah I know they didn’t do the tests etc... but as you see in the right bottom corner this video is not supposed to be for flight training!

    • @bogdan_n
      @bogdan_n 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, this video shouldn't be used for training purposes, but then again, if you don't do it right, why do it at all? I was expecting maybe not the full by-the-book procedure, but something a little bit more professional. This looks like two spoiled brats bragging about the toy they get to play with.

    IRS alignment does not depend on OAT or internal temp. It depends on latitude. Lasts up to 17 mins

  • @mattiamerci203
    @mattiamerci203 5 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    For the irs it depends on the latitude more Than temperature.

    • @doyoulikedags3534
      @doyoulikedags3534 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Does it even depend upon the temperature? I was so confused when I heard him say that.

    • @milantenbroek1214
      @milantenbroek1214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@doyoulikedags3534 the irs itself doesn't need temperature input. In theory, it only needs the initial position as input, but it can be enhanced by giving it the GPS position, barometric altitude and the true airspeed. Total air temperature input could be used for the Air Data Computer.

      It is part of procedures, but it’s not really as huge of a mistake as you may think. I think you have a higher chance of an engine failure than the APU fire light not illuminating from a fault. But yes, they still should have done it.

    • @xNYCMarc
      @xNYCMarc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Comedy Pilot The test isn’t about seeing if the light bulb is good. It tests the system to be sure you’ll be alerted if a fire were to happen. The bulb might be good, but the rest of the system not.

    I am an aircraft mechanic 737 taxi run qualified. They totally skipped over the fire test warning and squib checks for the the APU and engine fire bottles before they started the APU. When I go in the flight deck before I even turn on the battery I make sure electric hydraulic pumps are OFF, gear handle down, flaps in same position as noted in walk around. I am only a mechanic, not a pilot .Makes me wonder about training

    What was that...? the whole thing was confusing, what about GPU? The aircraft was on the GPU all the time, but you went on the internal supply, and only after connected APU. The guy on the right clearly didn't understand what was happening, as his monitors stayed dark ... I am wondering are those guys are really on Type rating course or are they on MCC course with some hours of MF Flight sim.?

    Terrible. Literally terrible. I'm 13 years old and I know more than these guys. How the hell is this "Ready for taxi"??? You CANNOT taxi without engine power! And whats with the GPU? There must be over a million mistakes in this video. If I become a pilot I do hope I don't have to fly with anyone who goes there.
