    Yes, they did push back Jedi SE. Lucasfilm originally only gave Empire a 2 week run because it was the lowest box office of the 3 when originally released. So, they thought the demand wasn't as high as Star Wars. It turned out, during the 2 week run of Empire the box office numbers weren't trailing off. They saw this and extended Empire's run pushing back Jedi SE.

      They let greed and franchising lead the way instead of world building , character acting and development, and actual story telling as if it were a 📚 masterpiece book like Lord of The Rings!
      All they saw was profit and marketing.
      They could have done so much better; that’s why the prequels episodes 1,2, and 3 are better in my opinion than Disneys trilogy!

    I never understood why so many people bitch about the Special Editions. I mean, FFS, folks-these are the movies *the way George Lucas originally wanted to make them* (especially the first one). This is the way the original trilogy would have looked if CGI had existed in its '90s form back in the '70s and early '80s. So does it really make sense to complain about it?? 🙄

  • @GuadalupePicasso
    @GuadalupePicasso 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I generally don't mind the Special Editions, but there are segments in both A New Hope and Return Of The Jedi that make me cringe. Namely, the scenes with Jabba The Hutt in both movies. The encounter in ANH was utterly unnecessary, made Jabba look like a pansy (as opposed to a mafioso kingpin), and the dialog virtually mirrors that of Han with Greedo just moments before. In ROTJ, while the original release was maybe kinda campy, it was the 80s, when camp reigned supreme. The musical number that Lucas interjected is so abominably horrible. Period.
    In Jedi, I really don't mind the altered ending, replete with a new score, save for their showing Hayden whatever his name is.
    Also, take note that The Empire Strikes Back has the least amount of alterations (the expanded scene with the Wampa ice creature and some of the shots in Bespin being about it) serves as a testimony to the fact that it is, hands down, the best Star Wars movie.

    • @Destro7000
      @Destro7000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joseph Muir Were we meant to previously think that Jabba the Hutt was a shapeshifting human who somehow occasionally metamorphosizes into a slug?
      I don't get why he began as a human other than George was thinking "I'll fix that later if this thing makes money"

    • @GuadalupePicasso
      @GuadalupePicasso 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could've worded myself better above there, but I'm 100% with you in regards to far preferring the new ROTJ end song (my criticism above was for the new song in Jabba's palace) while also hating Lucas's adding Hayden's ghost.

    • @allthingsnerd.4484
      @allthingsnerd.4484 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      he was always intended to be some kind of freaky slug like alien, whether bipedal or slithering only Lucas knows for sure. The human guy "playing" Jabba was always meant to be superimposed over by an alien effect. The problem only came in with Harrison walking behind him after ROTJ was made because of the tail. The somewhat goofy tail stomping was their solution for it. i never hated that as much as others did, but it was obviously a band aid for a problem they couldn't otherwise get around. A similar moment happens in the rebel hangar before the Death Star assault when Luke reunites with Biggs. The two of them are chumming it up for a second and then red leader comes up and asks Luke if he can handle an X-Wing and Biggs tells him that Luke is the best bush pilot in the outer rim territories. Then a technician passes in front of the camera and red leader says "You'll do alright." to Luke and leaves. The technician walking in front of the camera was to hide the edit where they had to cut red leader saying "I met your father when i was a kid. If you are anything like him....(you'll do alright)." (or something similar). That bit of dialogue had to be clipped due to what we now know about Luke's dad. you can see it uncut here th-cam.com/video/f00IkrWvur4/w-d-xo.htmlm13s I guess having Boba Fett or someone pass in front of the camera during Han and Jabba's talk at the tail stomp moment would have been too jarring.

    1:23 "Finally the motion picture event the way it was meant to be experienced". Pfft yeah, until DVDs became a thing, then that was the how it was meant to be experienced. Followed by the Blu-ray version being the penultimate version. Maybe with Disney in charge we will no longer be forced to suffer these changes. Come on Disney! Blu-ray Star wars as it was originally shown!

      +jw71291 I'm sure they will do it. One thing they need to make a deal with 20th Century Fox on A New Hope...what Disney and 20th Century Fox should do is making a seamless branching to choose.....original unaltered version, 1997 SE, 2004 SE and 2011 Blu-ray SE. If they did that, it will make a lot fans happy.

      +Alan StarWarsFan I don't understand Fox's stubbornness. Star Wars by itself doesn't have the value that the complete franchise would have. Unless they're asking for a ridiculous sum of money, I don't see why both they and Disney can't come up with an agreement. And yes, I believe that all versions of the trilogy should be made available.

    The reason the original versions of star wars sucked was because there wasn't enough tie fighters on the screen. The special edition was so much better because of that.

    I like the special editions of the original trilogy, but I like the original theatrical versions of the trilogy. Anybody else?

    unfortunately this was the beginning of the end of Star Wars as we had it in my generation. I was born in 1973. I Grew up on the original trilogy and practical F/X. I think CGI is a wonderful tool to tell a story in modern cinema, but first the story must be well written and have characters we can relate to. Also good acting and directing helps also. in my opinion this is where the prequels suffered. somewhere along the way Lucas lost his passion for filmmaking.

      This is for new generations. You can't expect them to not update these films the way they have been wanting to. Star Wars was done on seat of George's pants as he has stated many many times. He got the opportunity to update his movies and he did. Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure you would have done that too if you had a creation as big as Star Wars and was limited to time, money, effects..

      jgfear Hey, nuff of that old talk! too early for that crap yet, maybe in another 20 or so, I'm same year as you. is it wrong I still have my Mcdonalds stars wars trilogy glasses that are my "good" ones for company, and a 1982 complete star wars comforter sheet set I force the wife to keep on our bed one week a month!! now, "we're", not asking for much, just one little perfect transfer to blu ray, pre Lucafication release of the originals. just ONE, that's all. Then everyone on all sides get what they want, and all us ahem, "vintage" star wars will shut up. In the mean time I'll keep hope alive Disney will get it right for us. XD, peace

    This change was okay because he didn't take away much from the originals I actually liked the 1997 version of empire strikes back best. but anymore than that ruined everything.

    Star Wars use to be so cool when I was a kid until the special editions ruined it. Just hoping that the new trilogy won't be like that.
