    The 1990 VHS trilogy release was how I was introduced to these movies back in 1992/1993. I was only 5 at the time and these movies changed my life forever. I vividly remember these promos before the movies even though it's been probably over 20-years since I last watched these specific releases. Sadly, my dad lost these in storage years ago; I'd love to have them still even as a keepsake.

      I was born in 1998, so honestly I feel pretty lucky that at age 6 I was introduced in exactly the same way. Technically they were loaned from my Uncle, I might’ve even been 5 when I first saw the original. I do still hold Episode I very special and nostalgic because I saw it quite young, but distinctly after I had seen the original trilogy. I watched the original by myself on VHS, I really don’t remember why nobody watched it with me or if perhaps my Dad did. In any case, I am almost sure I first saw both V and VI a little bit later and on 2 separate occasions with my Grampy. We used the same set as I had watched Star Wars on. In the next few years I remember endlessly rewatching all 3, and my Uncle basically let me keep the set & later a VHS of Episode I. It would be a few years before I got to see Episode II on DVD from a rental store.
      So if I saw all these at age 6, around 2004, I definitely had seen them all by 2005 when Episode III came to theaters. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to go see it thanks to the PG-13 rating, but I knew things that happened in it thanks to cultural osmosis, friends, school, seeing trailers and video games, and I eventually watched it on old youtube haha.
      Star Wars was my absolute favorite movie series in my childhood.

    • @dja-train2265
      @dja-train2265 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "improved" is debatable to many "Star Wars" fans. The 1997 "Special Edition" tapes had the crummy CG Jabba added to "A New Hope", before they replaced it with a less cheesy one for the DVD and hi-def versions.

    • @mathgasm8484
      @mathgasm8484 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched it on laser disc in the 90s. My grandma was a librarian so she had the trilogy on laser disc for some reason.

    • @1TakoyakiStore
      @1TakoyakiStore ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. I remember saying I liked what I saw over at my Uncle's when he was playing A New Hope and later Empire Strikes Back on separate occasions. My father went ahead and mailordered all 3 films. Best birthday present I ever had. He later picked up the From Star Wars to Jedi documentary on VHS a few years later. While I don't have the 3 films I still have that documentary.
      Such nostalgic times! Also a bit of a dark age for Star Wars fans as we hadn't had a film since 1983 (on the big screen anyway).

  • @MCLegoboy

    I remember watching this promo so many times as a young child, I don't know how old I was when I saw it for the first time but I turned 5 in 1990 so it could've been I saw it a year or 2 later since it's on all of the Star Wars videos or maybe a shortened version of it. One of my life's goals is to see the Star Wars trilogy on the big screen, the way I grew up with them. I missed out on the 97 special editions because my parents didn't get around to taking me for some reason but I did manage to see the blu-ray version of the movie I guess you could say on the big screen. Star Wars didn't have Macklunky but Jedi did have Vader screaming NO!

    When I was a kid, the dentist office I would go to had a TV in the waiting room, and the receptionist had the box set and would always put on one of these tapes for us if we asked nicely (I usually picked Return of the Jedi). I’d get through about ten minutes of the actual movie before getting called in for my appointment, so this trailer is pretty much ingrained into my memory.

    Throughout the 90s, we only had this copy of New Hope which I watched over and over and had never seen either of the sequels. The previews for it in this promo is all I had ever seen of them. Eventually in early 1996, my Dad was digging through our bin of blank tapes with movies and show taped onto them and revealed that had taped Empire and Jedi off from the Sci Fi channel years prior. So we put in the tape for Empire and it began in the middle of the fight between Luke and Vader in the carbonite chamber. I was confused by the events as I had no idea what was going on. Luke is suddenly fighting Vader, and Leia, Chewie, and the droids are in a shootout with stormtroopers and are preparing to escape the planet in the Millenium Falcon. It had me very eager to find out what it all meant.
    And recently, I imagined that if Empire was told in the media res, this would actually be an effective opener for it before flashing back to the beginning of the Hoth scenes and showing it's way up to the Bespin battles.
