Last time I rode a bike was in 1989 with my '86' Ninja 600r, I was 29 yrs old then. I just got back in the motorbike scene with a 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 I bought a week ago, and I'm now 59. I road tested it, loved it, and bought it cash. I didn't had any problems at all adjusting after not riding for 30 yrs.

@@Marc-NZ You should be fine. When I road tested my cruiser I thought I was gonna kill the engine on 1st gear, but I gave it a throttle, let off the clutch a little and more throttle and off I went. It's gonna come back to you. I think the Shadow Spirit is just a great bike. Low cost, no drama, and just fun to ride. I'm thinking of downsizing from our Kawasaki Nomad and this is one of the bikes on the list. Just a simple bike to ride.

There is a lot of stupid sh1t on this bike, like a fuel pump that isn't actually much of a fuel pump.
Rear seat pegs that are way too high up for you to put your feet up on
Cylinder heads you can't remove without tearing the whole bike apart
Stator coils you can't remove without draining the engine oil.

This bike is perfect for EVERYTHING. Mine is a 2006 that I've had for 3 years, and it's impeccable. Once you get it cleaned up and lightly modded the way you want it (lights, pegs, seat, etc) it's a perfect daily! Enough power to bomb around, but not enough to get you in trouble. I will keep mine forever ✨

  • @brotherjared2197

If you care about going fast and aerodynamics but dont want a crotch rocket this is actually the perfect bike. Reason being is because the handle bars are like that of a mountain bike and allow you to really bend your body into it. you just have to ride with your butt scooted back a little if you are tall which may piss off your lady behind you but whatever it takes! Loved the bible quote at the beginning brother! ride on.

Bought a 2013 Shadow Spirit (blue flames), shaft drive with 3,400 miles for $3,500 last season. Previous owner was a part time dealer; showed up to his buddy’s garage on an electric unicycle! He bought it off a guy a year or so previously and only rode it a couple times to the lake with his girlfriends; never even retitled it. Eh. Really I just wanted to see how it fit me and how the clutch felt since I had some medical issues. Soon as I sat on it and took it through the gears, I knew it was perfect for me. About a month later, I took it for a 720 mile day trip, all on Interstate with mild headwinds at 80-85 MPH the whole way and it did great! Just me, saddle bags, tank bag, soft luggage pack on the backseat against the sissy bar. Enjoyed the ride back a few days later via US Route 36 for 750 miles. Seats only good for 120 miles at first, then about 80 miles at a shot afterwards; so I’m replacing that. Great bike, easy handling!

Hey hey I'm in my 60's and downsized from a VTX1800r to the Shadow 750. The older I get the bigger bikes comfort level isn't there. Shadow is perfect and feel in control again. So watch that old stuff pal! Lmao

I know this is 5 years ago, but today on July 1, 2023 I just bought a near mint 2001 Spirit 750 with new tires, and all tuned by the previous owner. I am 6 feet tall, 300 lbs and have a bad left knee, so I needed a nimble bike and this is perfect. The previous owner also added a tooth to the rear sprocket. I haven't ridden in 20 years, so this is a good re-entry bike.

I bought one of these yesterday and took it out for a drive. This is not a beginner bike at all.
It's big, heavy, and hard to dodge things, do slow manuever turns, or stop like a semi truck. I would only recommend it for a very experienced rider. It looks a lot smaller in video and in online images than it actually is. I actually feel safer on my 1982 CM450 that delivers the same 45hp, but in a lot lighter and more controllable package.
The key location is in a very irksome place, the rear footpegs are too high, but mostly, it's just one heavy bike, from the looks of the Vtwin it looks unnecessarily difficult and time consuming to work on compared to an inline air cooled twin, and the low seat height does not help as much as you would think it would. It's not the next step up from a Classic Honda Rebel like it appears to be, but rather, a 4x jump in weight feeling and an 8x jump in required skill to drive.
I sure as h377 hope I never drop mine, because unlike my other two bikes that take all my strength to get up, there ain't getting this thing up, which leaves you at a severe disadvantage of getting stranded by nothing more than a fallen bike... that happens. And unlike my other two bikes where I have sucessfully with tiger reflexes swerved out of the way of suddenly stopped or oncoming traffic, that ain't happening with this bike... you're plowing right into whatever is ahead, so you've got to drive wayyyy more defensively... like huge wide berths and stopping diances and keeping traffic as far away as possible.

I got back into bikes after along break at age 60sumpin last year...started out on a 2011 Suzuki DR 650 dual-sport...quickly got bored-used to the power & upgraded to a 2007 Suzuki S83 Boulevard cruiser(1365 cc Vtwin).

OK so now you have piqued my interest. If not a Honda Shadow 750, what bike would you recommend for an older guy (40's or 50's) as a bike to get back into riding on? I'm 58 and haven't ridden in 41 years, I know I need training so I signed up for the MSF course at the local community college. I bought a 2000 Honda Shadow vt750c ACE so why is this a good bike for a new, inexperienced, young rider but a bad choice for an older, returning rider?

Justin Reid The Honda shadow spirit wont seem near as fast. But it will be more fun to ride, and play on. Plus the power the shadow has is no laughing matter. These bikes have plenty of power, and will surprise you once you get used to the bike. Minimum maintenance. Basic fluid changes, and upkeep. Very strong engine internals and pretty much fool proof. Reliable as they come. 60,000 miles on these Honda’s, isn’t nothing. They go forever and will take a beating. You won’t be disappointed!

I'm an atheist and I could give two shits about this bible verse. I barely notice it. I figured it's just his ritual before his ride. He's not rubbing it heavily in anyone's face.

John Cantelon if you atr offended you have hundreds of other channels you can go to. Why should he have to conform to your standards? It is his channel and as far as I know, reading a verse is not against youtubes terms of service.
