Nice ! Really thorough and easy to follow. You can always tell when the carbs have been opened up because the mixture screw caps are removed, I've never seen them replaced... makes future adjustments much easier. I'm glad you got it running right.
Hello, I have a Honda Shadow Spirit VT750DC, my carburetor is failing, I will follow your tutorial to maintain my motorcycle, I am from Mexico, your video is very well prepared, I appreciate it very much.
omg you pull the carbs with the boots still attached to the carbs, that's crazy, no wonder it's so hard. leave the boots attached to the cylinders, loosen the upper clamps and use a long screw driver or pry bar to pry up off the rocker cover to pop the carbs out of the boots, right side carb off front cover and left off rear cover, super easy. i can take my shadow from fully assembled to having carbs out on the bench in 15 minutes, a little longer to go back together, routing choke cables, hoses, and air inlet boots on the dual carb shadows can be pain. The hoses you thought are for a vacuum actuator are actually the atmosphere equalizer inlets for the slide chambers, btw, those black nipples that look like a $2 drip system nipple from home depot get brittle after a few years so be gentle with them because honda wants just under $40 a piece for them.........
Best carb removal/rebuild video I have ever seen! You covered every step in great detail. I feel confident and prepared to tackle the job myself now. Thanks
Excellent video teaching. I learned much from your teaching. I now feel more confident to rebuild my carborators myself. I wonder if you ever found any problem with those little holes missing on the new jets. I enjoyed watching your video all the way through non stop Thank you for sharing this info. I appreciate it much. The LORD bless you Ray.
Thank you so much. Yes I ended up swapping the new jets for the old jets again. I just took some time and cleaned them up really well. I couldn’t get a smooth acceleration with the new jets
From what i recall in doing research to work on my 84 shadow, the plug over the mixture screw is an EPA thing to prevent the owner messing with it and causing it to no longer meet compliance.
great video, I have the same bike, I haven't ridden it in over 3 years, I am sure it need a good cleaning and overhaul. Watching your video def shows me there is no way I can do this myself. I am no where near a Mechanic. I will have to find someone to do this or just sell the bike as is. I know it won't be worth much as is of course.
Exact same experience. Cleaned carb, gas coming out everywhere after install, but it ran the best it ever had for 5-6 minutes lol. Just got it back together for round two after replacing floats and pins. I pray this is my last time. I’ve been everywhere on this bike but I’m hating a carbureted bike right now! Soaked my carb in chemdip and it turned it to a dark gray with a gunky film…?! Never had that happen on one (mostly lawn mower carbs) for me. Guts look okay but she ain’t pretty outside. We’ll see tomorrow 🤞🏼
I know this video is a year old now but the mixture screw gets the spring, then the small metal washer, then an o-ring. Your o-ring was probably stuck in the hole. If you end up having mixture problems, it’s probably because the o-ring got pinched or shoved into the needle hole.
I rebuilt mine following your great video. But now I can’t figure out where that long hose gets connected to. I’m talking about the one that’s dangling as you are rebuilding the carb.
Actually after having rebuilt it, it leaks gas from this line just like your bike was doing. In the beginning of your video you mentioned that your bike was leaking gasoline from the vent line. Well my bike would start but die quickly afterwards before I rebuilt the carb. After rebuilding it, it still does the same thing but now it leaks gas from that vent line also if I throttle up while trying to start it. I don’t know what could be the cause of it not wanting to stay running. I used the jets that came with the kit.
Makes me suspect the floats may not be set right or may be leaking. I did put my old jets back in because I felt a sluggish acceleration at mid range. Follow that hose and see if it goes to the fuel bowls. They may be overflowing
Need help!!2007 Honda Shadow 750 Aero /been sitting for 8 years /7900 miles!/All fluids changed, New battery of course and new carb/Fired up and runs great/engine oil light stays on during idle/Goes off and stays off when you give it gas and are riding it/changed pressure oil switch/didn't solve problem/Run 50/50 mixture of kerosene/oil twice thru engine/problem still not solved/What do you suggest I do next?
My shadow ace manual says the oil light turns on when the bike is turned on and goes off when the engine is running and even has a protocol to go through if your oil light doesnt come on everytime you turn the bike on, i found that out because i was concerned that it was on.
Great vid… my carbs just went bad a few days ago… sucks I can’t ride my bike, but we get hands on it though!!! Thanks for the info… what kind of fluid are you using to clean the carburetor though?
Very detailed video. You don't seem like a professional mechanic, but your attention to detail is superb. Most backyard mechanics, including me sometimes, lol rush things, don't pay attention, and aren't careful not to damage fragile parts, which these bikes are packed full of. Its why no one wants to buy a ised bike. Anyway, great video, helped me out tons, as I'm getting ready to do the same. At one point, a text block said "I ate these words" did you have to go back into it? Just wondering what you found and what you learned. Thanks!
Yes I took it apart again and put the original jets back in. It ran very rich and stumbled a lot on acceleration. Thank you for watching and commenting!

@@RayofallTrades thanks boss ive been watching your vid again and again, and followed how you also cleaned the carb (thabk you for thats aswell) i also asked a friend and thats also what he saidabout that hose. Currently trying to put it back the correct way step by step how you have done it :) great vid boss!!!
This is the best video so far for doing this, I wish I would have seen it before removing my carb! I seem to be missing 2 hoses...can you tell me where the hose connected to the back of the air filter (around 33 min. In video) is supposed to be connected at the other end? Also, the hose with the 'white dot' I have no idea where that is, or if it was missing from the beginning... Where should that one be connected, to the carb itself or somewhere else? Thank you
The white dot hose went to the carb(s) about 1/2 way up and appears to be an over flow or possibly a atmosphere pressure. The one on the air box I need to look for but I think I found the hose routing diagram looking at Google. If I find it I'll let you know
Thanks for your help! Another question, On the carburetor there are 2T's.1 is for the fuel, Do 1 of the hoses from the other T. go into the air filter? I couldn't tell from the diagram
Try to go back to that link I shared. Further down someone added pictures with blue lines which was pretty good for routing and see if that helps. Sorry for the delay, new phone and old eyes challenges. 😂 Happy new year!
Great video man, I just need more help lol I bought a 2007 spirit that hasn’t been able to run for over 6 years. I followed your video and it was able to run for about 15 seconds. It was leaking fuel from the nipple behind the throttle cable, I removed the spark plugs and smelled fuel bad. Then I checked the oil and also smells like fuel really bad. Did I rebuild it wrong? What do you think I should do next?
It sounds like the needle and seat on one of them is not sealing properly or the float is leaking or not adjusted. You can put the carbs on the bench and add a clear hose to the fuel nipple and fill up to see if they seal. I recently had a fuel line deteriorate internally causing dirt to keep flooding just like you described
@@RayofallTradeslooks like one of the needles from the kit was the problem, it keeps getting stuck, I ordered another kit so hopefully everything is good after that, Thank you!
@@RayofallTradesI ended up going with a different kit that included the diaphragms and it’s running great, just need to watch some videos on how to sync the carbs and should be done. Thanks again man, your video helped me remember how to keep taking it apart and put it back together!
Your about to have carb issues again the shadow has an issue with the plug wire coming from the coil grounding out on the plate that has that rubber diaphram and spring under it, itll burn a hole and cause it to run horribly. Thats what that black dot is. Mine done it after 35k miles easy fix with jb weld tho
@RayofallTrades the spark plug wire coming from the coil that rests on the carb. the one you removed to make room to remove the carb. The plug wire will ark over on the carb and essentially plasma cut a tiny hole in that plate.

Great vid for following allong, did you ever find out what the two brass pipettes were inside of each float chamber?
Overflow I think? Hard to remember
If that carb cleaner gets into any of the still assembled diaphragms you may be in for further repairs. They usually aren't part of carb kits.
Likely did get in there and you might be right
Why ? Does the carb cleaner deteriorate them ?
@@mrmgjohnsonit can. Depends how strong the cleaner is and what it's made of. Remember that these gasket are used to seeing gas
@mrmgjohnson depending on the cleaner it will dry it out and either shrink or expand the rubber. not good
