    That first tip at the end of the video about not buying in for the max I find intriguing. I see it all the time even though I’ve stopped doing it at the 1-3 stake, but I don’t really understand the disadvantages to it. I just know that I stopped doing it because I want all the firepower I can possibly have if I find myself in a great spot I want to get all the money in at. But a video on that would be awesome! Explaining buy-ins and what we should be buying in at and why. I have recently moved up to 2-5 (max buy-in is 1k) instead of 1-3 and sometimes I buy in for 6-800 instead of the max. Is this a mistake? Thanks in advance! 🥳

    • @Conductor2711
      @Conductor2711 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you've mostly hit on it with your idea that you want the max firepower. Over the long run, if you are a winning player, your win rate per hand is going to be less when the effective stack is less, because it's impossible to win the biggest pots. So players that are confident they can win the biggest pots at an above average rate are going to want to have the biggest stack possible, and conversely, when they sit down with less than the max, it suggests they are not confident in their ability to win the biggest pots.

    • @Conductor2711
      @Conductor2711 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I will mention that just because players buying in short tend to be weak at a high proportion, it does not follow that buying in for less than the max is some egregious mistake. You might do it because you want to observe the table for awhile before going for max exploits, or you might do it because you have some reason to believe the opponents are going to make more mistakes against short stacks.
      However, if you feel like you want to buy in for less than the max consistently and are not sure why you are doing it, I would at least consider the possibility that either buying in for the max OR playing lower stakes would lead to a better win rate.

    Found the channel a couple days ago, absolutely love it. Around 08:20. Is it so bad to check the river as villain with TPTK? Boban has a decent amount of missed draws, don't we want to give him the opportunity to bluff? He may also think that we have missed draw ourself and go for light value.

  • @3betmonkey
    @3betmonkey 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Around 4:00 you talk about how our opponent has a polarized range and that we want to start check raising a lot. My understanding of theory was that against a polarized range we want to do a lot of calling to allow their bluffs to continue bluffing.
    If our opponent has nuts or air, isn't check raising small allowing them to play perfect? They get to fold out their junk, and continue with their nuts and draws in position.

    • @hungryhorsepoker
      @hungryhorsepoker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      really good question.
      i would call with our value + our nutted draws to keep them barreling with worse and so we don't value own ourselves. with our worse draws, raising small is pretty nice because we get to fold out some air that is better, and fold out their monkey bets that beat our hand.
      in general, when they're betting polar - raise air small, value huge. when they're betting linearly - raise value small, air huge.

      This year alone I folded KK 5 times pre flop, I was correct for all but one. In that case I cold 4 bet with KK and original raiser jammed for only 90BB but the 3 better rejammed on top of it for 200BB effective. A jam to a cold 4 bet at 1/3 and even 2/5 level is KK or AA since I had KK I weighed it towards AA. In this case he had the other KK. His reasoning was, well I am just never folding KK preflop without looking at the configuration. I still call it a win

    I'm not sure about tip #4 where Villain Xs river OOP with TPTK after all the draws brick. Are you implying that is a bad check? I'd definitely consider checking that spot to allow IP to bluff with missed draws. Without solving, I feel like checking, blocking and value betting all have merit there and therefore not be likely to consider the Villain that Xs over TPTK to be making an exploitable mistake, and certainly not from just 1 showdown. What do you think?

    • @hungryhorsepoker
      @hungryhorsepoker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      against the live player population x tptk otr when draws brick is not great because players massively underbluff and do not bet thinly enough.

      @@hungryhorsepokeragreed. But you also overlooked that if someone is implementing this strategy of giving people rope OTR when everything whiffs, then you should also include hands like QQ-AA in there, in which case we don’t want to be overbetting with AJ. We want to have 2pair+ to overbet and use smaller sizes with AJ.

    I play at elements casino in victoria BC and even when I raise 7x or 8x I get called by 4/5 people that only know how to limp call almost every time.
    I started online and home games in person where I studied GTO which worked really well. I turned 19 recently and realized at live cash games GTO doesnt work?

    Buys in less than the table norm/ or small.. poor player
    Sits out bomb pots.. under bluffs
    Limps a lot .. loose fish
    Limp re raiser... prob AA or KK, and opens weaker
    Sits out table straddles.. under bluffer
    Opens very large... probably a pretty good hand. Consider big re raise
    Calls 3bets OOP way too much... Three bet linear and larger
    Buys in with cash is probably a fish
    Buys in with chips or from box.. more likely not a big fish
    People lining up chips neatly with stripes aligned... probably conservative player
