I have been playing poker for additional income for years until you and other coach that I met from other channel makes me learned the knowledge that I lacked of. Which increases my skill and confident level a lot, thanks to both of you!
Since you have started posting your low stakes content my win rate has really improved dramatically. The OOP guide in particular has been game changing. I’m looking forward to implementing the donk strategy from this video
It's crazy how different online poker is compared to live. Marc makes the concepts seem so simple. I wonder how much the game changes as his strategies become well known in the live lowstakes poker ecosystem
Yeah seriously, some online games are quite tougher. I’d suggest playing against some opponents as if they are “pros” and do things hungryhorse would do against pros slightly more often
5:17 I feel like the second hand here is a perfect example of where I tend to get confused (I don't have logic): if jamming all in looks like we want AJ to fold, wouldn't that hint to the villain that we're bluffing? Or are we just not expecting them to risk it regardless?
My new favorite channel, you guys are great! So much good info in every video! One question: How come when the OOP villain donks, his range is weak? I woulda thought theyd check all their weak stuff and lead out their strong stuff.
in general, they go for xr with the super strong stuff. donks tend to almost never have nutted hands (except in special cases - like large donks in multi-way pots or 3bp)
Hi Marc. Im quickly becoming a big fan. Thank you for the awesome content! Sorry, I'm just a little confused with the second example. On the wet dynamic flop clean run out example you advocate the big river bluff with a hand like 76s, "to get hands like AJ to fold". However using the exact same example and the same flop & turn line in another video, the "One question to rule them all" video you say that that you wouldn't expect villain to fold AJ to a river shv and therefore you wouldn't want to go all in with a hand like 76s. The only difference between the 2 examples i think unless im missing something is that you have a little over 2x pot in this example as opposed to 1.6x pot in the other video. This doesn't seem like a massive difference on the surface. Am I missing something?
depends on villain! if you think they’ll fold aj sometimes, and kj qj a lot - jam w the bluffs. if you think they’ll never fold aj and kj - jam with the value and go small w the bluffs. up to you to determine the player you’re against.
I think the best overarching concept is just attacking capped ranges vs oop players that never put strong hands into their x/c range. also having a good sense of who is actually willing to fold top pair. vs some stations, overbetting with range advantage is just a punt
quick unsolicited tip for you: if you want viewers to stick around for your interaction reminders / CTAs, drop the audio filters and harsh music on those segments.
Last night I play a hand where I got AQ as the pre flop aggressor and I knew both of my opponents is capped at one pair or less and I still didn’t have the courage to bluff the turn and the river and the show down the winner was a second pair on the flop. Which was the skill level I need to improve. So I finally one hand pulled the trigger with AJ using the blocker to bluff and took the pot down. I still need to improve
Given these bluffs in mind, how do we know when to fold or call correctly when the shoe is on the other foot and we're the ones OOP heads up calling down with Jx? I assume it's gonna involve a mixed strategy so that we don't lose too much to overpairs & 2 pair+ while at the same time not missing too much from bluffs.
the J9xx flush draw spot is kinda interesting. its funny bc its kinda exploitative in the sense that 1. people in live poker don't bluff enough, and therefore 2. people too easily fold top pair in many nodes where that is some of the best hands you arrive at river with. In that spot, most Jx with a spade becomes a call, and even all Jx can call, losing only a small amount of EV (less than.1bb, so basically become indifferent to an almost pot size bet). I think its interesting since if someone is tripling off there with a hand as bad as 67s, than you have to basically always call with any Jx, as they are likely way overbluffing in that node. tldr: having a protected range oop is hard and more people playing 5/5 and up would benefit from looking at a solver every now and then
Thank you for your videos, it's always educational to learn from you. By the way, give the shrimp to the turtle that you adopted when I subscribed and liked your previous video (Ernest).🐵
start by assigning them a range on every street, and carry it from street to street based upon each action. think in terms of buckets (thick value, high equity draws) instead of specific hands (a7dd). with each action, you can start eliminating buckets one by one, street by street.
I find a lot of top top will just call down when draws miss, even to an over-bet shove. So many people feel invulnerable with AJ on J9243 with no flush, particularly when I bet all 3 streets. Easier to just get max value from over pairs, sets, two pair than to try to bluff them off.
You just bet smaller with bluffs then. All of these apply only to live recreational players, not that you use such an unbalanced strategy vs a competent villain.
What size would you check raise to in the first example? 210ish I'm guessing? Or is this an example where you dont need to go big because they're range betting too much? 🤔
I've seen a lot of players at live 2/5 donking flop as PFC lately with very strong hands. I suppose we just need to be aware of specific villains' tendencies when running these plays.
i disagree. most people have zero idea what they're looking for when looking into "physical tells" and have no ability to discern the difference. execute with a sound strategy, worry about the physical tell stuff once you've captured 99% of the low hanging fruit.
@@hungryhorsepoker Also, the more confident you are in your strategy, the less you're physically affected by whether the situation calls for a bluff or for value. I hear vloggers like Mr. Owen (perhaps jokingly) say, "I'm thinking 'Call. Call. Call. Call.'" I'm never thinking that. Once I make that big river bet, I try to forget about what I have and what they might do, and I check the TV to see if the Lakers are still up.
People do this quite a lot against me, going 1/3 when flush comes in, expecting me to raise with a flush. When I do have a flush, I often just call. They blast river, I call and get all their shit. So thanks for that content.
thankfully for everyone else, we posted a video two weeks ago called “how to exploit every player type” which talks about how to exploit the pants off players who do exactly this. so thanks for letting us know!
@@PhonyBologna Mmhmm so I am supposed to raise the turn with a flush every time? And my calling turn tells you I will do that next time, too? Interesting concept.

it only looks like we’re trying to get aj to fold because i said we want aj to fold. in game - we don’t announce our intentions.

the ability to bluff and not physically give away a bluff appearance matters too. its easy to bet a bluff but you need a camo posture as well.
