Took me all these years to recognize a key moment in Jake's favor with his ex:
When he showed up at the penthouse and was sitting with snobs, he not only was humble and honest about his own career, but he enlightened the group about Lynn's accomplishments which her current had left out and they didn't know.

Dorn deserves so much credit for that final game, not just for how he played, with the one key defensive play and one of the key hits that leads to an important run when Sorano hits his home run, but also for his pep talk to Vaughn. Vaughn REALLY needed that in that moment, or odds are that he gives up a grand slam. Dorn was free to take his punch once the game was over, but he showed real class when it mattered most!

The announcer is Bob Uecker ("Juuuust a bit outside!"), who was a World Series winning catcher who turned colorful play-by-play broadcaster later, and really makes this film work. He's still alive at 90 years old, and was still broadcasting Brewers' home games last season (Milwaukee Brewers Radio Network), since 1971! I loved this movie, especially how they won the game. 99% of the time the writers go for the dramatic home run, especially a known power hitter like Jake. Instead, he deked them out with the bunt, since they were playing him deep.
Small nit pick: the line about making the league minimum. Jake's not making a million a year, but even league minimum would put him in the same ballpark (excuse the pun) as the lawyers.

Thought it was very good as both a sports film but a fish out of water film as well.

So I had to go & flag him down by the electronics department. He was so kind and mild mannered. He play the sheriff in a Billy Bob Thornton film called A simple Plan. Great movie. 34:42 Ladies, this play IS NOT unusual. The third baseman's reaction is GENUINE because he didn't expect what is known as a "squeeze play;" the Toronto Blue Jays ran the same kind of play in Game 5 of their playoff series in 2016: ball was hit softly toward the third baseman to start a double play, runner was safe at first, runner scored from second on the play (RISKY move by the baserunner) to end the series. It's a pretty great play and this is an ICONIC movie.

charlie sheen pitched in high school and was almost a serious prospect. he threw hard. at the time they filmed this movie, he could still throw in the low 80s. so, rather than use trick photography or any other gimmicks, they had him pitch from 8 feet closer than the mound would normally be. this made his pitches take the same amount of time that a 100 mph pitch would take from the proper distance. in other words, that's really charlie sheen pitching.
