John Goodman said his favorite roll
I’ve always enjoyed this film and it still holds up to this day as one my favorite Coen brothers films. Plus I watch any film with Jeff Bridges cause he’s one of my favorite actors.
One of Coen's masterpieces and by the way ladies, that's John Goodman not John Candy
Sam Elliott legend
The Dude’s Rug not only tied the room together, The Dude’s Rug tied all of us together. 🍸
It did, did it not?
How very bondage
Far out, man.
Fuckin’ A.
Shut the f**k up, Balducci, you're out of your element! But yes, we can still go to 'In and Out' burger😂
When Walter tried to commit Donnie's ashes to the water, the wind blew them into the air. Even in death, Donnie was out of his element.
But also the one time Walter couldn't bring himself to say "Shut the F up Donny..."
This is one of those movies where the first time you watch it it’s pretty funny and the more times you watch it the funnier it gets…
That has 100% been my experience. The first time I watched it, I liked it, but felt it was overrated. The second time I watched it, I loved it!
@@WallyHartshorn totally! It took ten years for my son to finally convince me to watch this movie for family movie night. I just wasn’t interested in a guy walking around in his bathrobe and I hated Fargo another Coen brothers supposed classic but once I watched it I loved it and it gets better with every watching. It has so many layers and the actors deliver every part flawlessly. I’m now a Coen brothers fan!
The 1st time I saw The Big Lebowski, I thought it was Okay. The 2nd time I saw it, I thought 'This is genius'... Never had that experience with a Comedy film before.
Same. I saw it in the theater when it came out and thought it was funny, but not hilarious. Later saw it on video and realized the genius! Been a fan ever since, man!
That was my first experience with This is Spinal Tap. I saw it, and enjoyed it, but I love it a little more every time I see it.
Same experience. Now I've watched it at least 70 times.
This movie is like…a classic, man.
Quoting this movie is how guys become best friends.

Walter Sobchek is one of the best characters in cinematic history. Glad you watched this.
John Goodman is just a scene stealer no matter what character or movie he's in. He's so large and animated you can't take your eyes off him.
Fun Facts: The F-bomb is dropped 260 times and you never see the Dude bowl!
Also, I will always love this movie for giving us the best quote to reply to someone with when they disagree with you and it's not worth having a conversation about it. "Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man."
What a Great character
Yes my favorite line.
play the blue ray and turn on the dude/fuck counter - i think its 260 fucks and an equivalent number of dudes
Forgetting he writes a cheque on September 11/2001 The Day the Towers came down and is completely oblivious Setting the tone.
@@4thlinemaniac356 What are you talking about, the film is set in the early nineties and was released in 1999
The rug really did tie the room together.
😂😂
It honestly did 😂
And these guys peed on it.
Donny, please.
Jeff Bridges and John Goodman were quite the dynamic duo in this movie
yes, they are complete opposites , so it makes it funnier .
The best little detail in this film (there are many) is the check that the Dude writes in the beginning of the film is dated the 11th but then a few days later (in the film) we learn from the Dude's landlord that it's "almost the 10th". So that means the Dude was not only writing a 67¢ check for the half and half, but was kiting the check for it.
Brilliant.
Nice catch.
The woman at the restaurant missing her toe is Aimee Mann singer/song writer for the group "Til Tuesday". Steve Buscemi's character was written specifically with very little dialog and was told to shut up a lot in the movie because Steve Buscemi received a lot of criticism of his character in "Fargo" never shuting up.
Aimee Mann! Wow. Did not know that.

One little touch that many folks miss is that the one time you see Donny not bowl a strike foreshadows his demise.
I bet you like to submit all the little things we miss, eh 2 flakes.. were you from a tribe?
The walter character is a parody of John Milius. He directed Conan and Red Dawn and wrote Dirty Harry and much of Apocalypse Now.
That explains so much.
Michelle looks into the mirror, instantly Time magazine’s person of the year. 🤗
At John Goodman’s Hollywood Walk
Of Fame ceremony Jeff Bridges turned up complete with cardigan and delivered a Eulogy as the Dude to his friend.
That was an incredibly funny performance, and at one point they both couldn't stop laughing themselves.
Can I just say you are very nice to look at? That's not why I watch, but it don't hurt.
I bought this movie on VHS in a discount bin at a truck stop. I was not in the right frame of mind the first time I watched it. I did not enjoy this movie...until they spread the ashes. I started laughing so hard I was crying. It was enough to get me to watch it again and it became one of my regulars I would pop in.
My first time was as a homework assignment in a college film class. I liked it, but wasn't totally wowed by it. This is a movie that you need to watch at least 2 or 3 times to begin to appreciate the genius of it. Now it is definitely one of my favorite comedies. Maybe my favorite.
You can only hate this movie so long.
"His name is Lebowski?, that's your name Dude."
Just a little bit of trivia, Steve Buscemi used to be a firefighter before acting. He was at ground zero on 9/11
Oh wow!
He had retired snd was a successful actor at the time , he volunteered during that . With his former colleagues..
Wrong he was in Lonesome Dove in the 1980's. Many others in small parts.
@@4thlinemaniac356Steve Buscemi was in Lonesome Dove?
Were you born this dumb or did you have to take classes?
You have my undying gratitude for calling it trivia and not a f__ fact.
Yeah, well, you know, that’s just like, uh…your reaction man

The Dude calls it a marmot, which is what it is called in the script, but the animal actually in the scene is really a ferret.

Walter Sobchak is one of the best and most loved characters in the Coen Brothers film.
One of the great things about this movies is for all it's great dialog, every body is almost always speaking over each other, not listening or speaking at cross purposes. Fantastic! There is almost no actual true communication between any of the characters.
Fun fact: look at the date of the check at 2:31, while Bush Sr. is talking about Operation Desert Storm. Coincidence?
probably the most ridiculous Cohen movie made. Was perfection. i miss Philip Seymour Hoffman.
I love him in every movie he’s in.
I love all the cussin.
It's who they were.
There are people who cuss that much in real life.
It took nothing away from this classic....I thought.
"Do you have cuss so much?"
And the dude's line of the movie for me was
"What the f**k you talking about?"
But enough about the cussin.
This comedy is right up there with Airplane, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
And as always, in a Coen Brothers movie, nothing is ever resolved.
Which I love.
Great reaction guys.
Thanks!
Yeah, I thought the cussing really tied the dialogue together, sort of like a rug.
And fyi, the Supreme Court has roundly rejected Prior Restraint!
and remember: the best part of waking up is donny in your cup
🤦🏻
The only other movie that reminds me of The Big Lebowski is Raising Arizona.
Downvote for complaining about bad words.
Doesn’t seem very rational but okay 😂
Maude: What do you do recreationaly?
The Dude: Oh the usual... I bowl, drive around. The occasional acid flashback.
One of the best comedies of all time
This movie is loosely based off of 'The Big Sleep' a crime noir starring Humphrey Bogart. Instead of a character like Bogie, they wanted a protagonist that was the opposite personality wise. The whole mystery was a convoluted mess that ended up going nowhere when we find out Bunny just skipped town for a few days lol. Masterwork of the comedy genre! Also, the dude's clothes were actually Jeff Bridges personal clothes.
The Big Sleep is a huge mess, but the chemistry between Bogart and Bacall is incredible.
A stoner retelling if you will.
And were those actually John Goodmans undies in the bag?
😜
Great reaction!
The Big Lebowski is definitely a movie that gets better with rewatches. A lot of people are kind of lukewarm about it the first time they see it but end up loving it with multiple viewings. I think part of the issue is that it only has a loose plot and people try to follow what's happening when, honestly, not much actually happens. It's all about the characters interacting with each other. Part of the inspriation for the film was the old Raymond Chandler detective novels that were known for convoluted plots that didn't really amount to much if you looked too close at them because Chandler was really only interested in throwing interesting characters into scenes with each other, much like what The Big Lebowski did.
I hope you'll keep going with the Coen Brothers films. They're all excellent and in a variety of genres. They specialize in sharp dialogue, but the swearing isn't usually at the level of The Big Lebowski so you'll probably enjoy it more. I can recommend True Grit (2010) if you want to see Jeff Bridges team up with the Coen Brothers again in a much more serious film. There's also No Country For Old Men with Tommy Lee Jones, if you haven't seen that one. Steve Buscemi worked with the Coen Brothers in Fargo if you wanted to see him again, but with more lines of dialogue. If you want another quirky comedy with more John Goodman and less swearing, and Nic Cage as well, check out Raising Arizona.
Big Lebowski is the definition of a cult classic!
Please check out the film
“True Romance” (1993)
This is a film a lot of people feel passionate about that I think you both will love!
I think others have recommended this as well!
“Cult classic “ is an ironic understatement. This movie actually launched an entire religion.
Dudeism.
$1,000,000 in $20 dollar bills?
A $20 bill weight = 1 gram
454 grams to 1 pound
1,000,000 / 20 / 454 = 110 pounds
Of course that will fit in a little brief case?
They must be using DUDE math. 🤔🤨😆😂🤣
Yeah well, that's just, like, your opinion, ladies.
If you haven't reacted to FARGO by the Coen Brothers, that's a MUST SEE DARK COMEDY.
Maybe the best film the Coen Bros have made. Fights for the top spot with Fargo and No Country For Old Men on my personal ranking.. just endlessly quotable, full of great characters. Philip Seymour Hoffman's facial expressions are worth the price of admission alone.
ps. All this talk about Adam Sandler (perhaps the biggest and laziest hack in the history of the movie biz) during the viewing of a Coen Brothers masterpiece is supremely distracting to me..
One of my family's favorite movies next to big trouble in little china.. watched so many times! So qouteable! The dude abides... I always think its funny my friends favorite is "ur obviously not a golfer"
Its always fun to see these cuties laugh and enjoy these movies. They make the experience fun on a different level.
I do have to say though, my own experience with this movie did not meet expectations.
I put off seeing until about 2 or 3 years ago. A lot of people I know really talked it up and I was pretty hyped to see it finally.
Unfortunately, it just didn't land with me, and I watch a lot of off the wall stuff.
I think I only laughed out loud at the scene where John Goodman loses their friend's ashes to a gust of wind.
Other than that, the movie just didn't work for me.
Maybe I'll try again sometime.
I had this same problem with Bladerunner. Everyone says that Bladerunner is the best scifi movie ever made, yet I tried watching it on two occassions and fell asleep both times.
Sometimes, you just don't know how a movie will resonate with a person.
Enjoyed every second of it. Ty for this. Can you please do a reaction video to the pilot of The Greatest American Hero please. About a special Ed teacher named Ralph Hinkley and an FBI Agent named Bill Maxwell who get kidnapped by Aliens and gives Ralph a super hero suit with unearthly powers and they have to save the world from destruction.

You should check out like 3 at a time. Same with Freddy movies. Compare and contrast. If you want. I won’t tell you how to live 😊
Tarentinos Pulp Fiction is just like this. I hated them both in the 90s as i was brought up on more sophisticated humor like My Fair Lady as late model Republican Boomer Catholic but now i can see the appeal now.

Love your channel! They drop the F-Bomb 292 times and say the word "MAN" another 147 times because the whole movie is about the modern day emasculation of men and the entire movie drives home that point where the men say the word all the time but none of them are actually manly men in the trueest sense of the word. The only Manly man in the entire film is the Narrator who is only in the movie when he breaks the 4th wall and who did they choose to portray him but none other than Sam Elliot perhaps the manliest man in all of Hollywood. Every Male character is emasculated from Donnie wondering what he needs his Johnson for, The Big Lebowski being paralyzed from the waist down, Jesus being a Pedophile, and The Nihilists who don't care about anything let alone his girlfriend blowing the dude for 1000 dollars. The music is even all chosen for this theme from The Man in Me by Dylan or Van Zandt's Dead Flowers. So yeah they use "that" word for a reason. Not a bad gimmick for a modern day retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Julianne Moore killed as the Red Queen.
Thanks!
It's not just repitition of lines - The Dude "borrows" language from others ALL THE TIME to try to fit in with 'the square community' to which he does not belong.
