    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah you could be right, on a skateboard they reach the whole way over the nose. The crail grab tailslide on coping on a skateboard is one my favs to watch

  • @BlackMarketHoney
    @BlackMarketHoney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It is much harder to tuck knee on a snowboard as the stiffness of the boots and bindings make it difficult to roll your back foot over, but I always aim to do it for max style points. It makes nose bones look more stylish for sure!
    It helps to bring you board up as close to your body as you can, then unleash the tweak!
    All the best, Rich in Sweden.

  • @snookdlbfly
    @snookdlbfly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’m betting the majority of “Indy purist” come from the vert skateboard realm. Unlike snowboarding the grab is essential to the maneuver not just a pose for style points. Many feel if your going to rip-off the terminology say it correctly and pay homage to the innovator.

    Why are tindy grabs frowned upon? i think it looks sick

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question, tindys are prob the coolest of all the taboo grabs (tailfish etc...)
      I think it's because it's harder to grab between the bindings and because snowboarders like to emulate skateboarding where there is no tindy grab

    • @scottdurkee3833
      @scottdurkee3833 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShredSchool1 Wait is it actually harder to grab between the legs than it is to grab a nose or tail?

    • @phatdawg1
      @phatdawg1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShredSchool1 The part where you say snowboarders want to emulate skate tricks makes no sense at all. Theres many tricks in snowboarding that you cant do on a skateboard and theres many tricks on a skateboard that you cant do on a snowboard. Theyre both pretty different but sort of similar in a way. Tindy grabs are sick!

  • @pappafritto
    @pappafritto ปีที่แล้ว

    Why is tindy considered a “faux pas” and a “no-grab zone”?

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is because it doesn’t exist on a skateboard. It’s also a bit harder to do a proper Indy or tail grab (same with stale fish) than a tindy or tail fish

    • @pappafritto
      @pappafritto ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShredSchool1 I’m okay with the former because snowboarding is just a sidebranch of skiing and skating is for 12yo 😆

    Noob here. Why is a "tindy grab" considered a faux pas?

    • @dupersuper1000
      @dupersuper1000 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Part of the reason is that snowboarding is loosely based on skateboarding (and also surfing), and skateboard tricks heavily influenced people’s perception of “style” on a snowboard. There is no such thing as a “tindy” grab in skateboarding because it’s not physically possible, so it’s just kinda dismissed as a trick in snowboarding.
      The second reason is that it’s sort of an awkward combo between an Indy grab and a tail/crail grab, while also being somewhat easier than both of them, especially if you account for “tweaking” or “boning out” the grab. For example, tweaking an Indy grab often involves moving your elbow behind your back knee while extending your front leg, and grabbing behind your back binding makes that significantly easier to pull off, so it’s less impressive.
      But in general it’s just a cultural thing. It’s super arbitrary. Just do whatever you want and have fun with it, but don’t be shocked when other riders criticize you for doing a tindy grab.

    "language is made up" no it isnt, at least not arbitrarily as this sentiment suggests.
    A better line to attack the indy purists, imo, would be to ask them to be grateful that we snowboarders dont start grabbing all of the places skaters cant and do it in such style that would put them of business.
    Great video tho

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not arbitrarily, you're right. It's generally adapted from it's initial origin and evolves based on the speaker's use over time. I love the skate origins of snowboarding, I think both us as snowboarders, and skateboarders can be a bit elitist and purist, so just throwing some light shade at the indy purists 😜 thanks for watching!
