For those who didn’t understand the premise of time travel, basically, the timer is always running: However, it is only SAVED at specific points, such as going into the end portal, exiting the game, or just every 5 minutes when running the game. He essentially avoided exiting the game and instead crashed the game without saving the timer each time it’s supposed to be saved, and that’s where the “time travel” category comes from. Every time he reloads the game, the game never saved, so it still thinks that the game has been running for 0.15 seconds, which is why the initial time stayed the same. This is also why he needed to pull these complex shenanigans in the end in order to minimize the time from when he rejoined the game, to when he entered the end portal. Sounds simple in practice, you just have to force quit the game every 5 minutes, but the real challenge of this category is figuring out how to save your items and beat the game without ever saving the world.

Or, to be more precise, mobs don't really attack through corners, it's just that when you lock yourself in a 1x1 without filling in the corner blocks and you hug the wall too tight, part of your hitbox will appear outside of the 1x1, therefore the mob didn't attack you through blocks, your body phased outside your 1x1 allowing the mobs to attack that part of your body
The explanation flew straight over my head. The dude is literally walking around in the world, how does this not count as in game time. Why does the IGT start then immediately freeze after each reload.
@@iamanoob9747 In game time, or IGT, is calculated every 5 minutes, which is when Minecraft auto-saves. IGT is used when timing speedruns so the time the runner spends paused or loading is not calculated. Because he keeps crashing his game before those 5 minutes, the IGT rarely updates.
say you run a marathon and the time is recorded every 5 minutes. However, before the 5 minute mark you always knock out the referee and reset the stopwatch to what it was at the last recording.

Was the inifinite pearl hang actually helpful or is it just so it doesnt take loads of real time, becuase it cost 1.5 seconds of igt. Its obvious that spawning at the portal means less real time, but if he didnt do the infinite pearl hang, and walked from spawn every time, would he be able to shave of the 1.5 seconds used to set up the pearl hang?
I didn’t bring this up in the video, but the pearl hang was actually placed at a very deliberate location within 32 chunks of the portal room. Technically the run can be done without it, but it would just be way more of a pain in the ass since he would have to travel the ~300 blocks out of spawn chunks each time.
When he entered and appeared in his first pearl hang . The one he duped times with ? That's when the In Game time Starts. His timer started there, essentially. If he jumped through the portal normally the time would be big. So doing it from his moat recent, and only, save. Was nessecery. Its not like his freezing time. He just chooses what time he wishes to count
When the game is beat the igt updates the save file. If he had just walked there the entire time he spent walking would have been saved. By hanging a pearl and teleporting to the end portal in like a second (mostly for falling from where the ender pearl hit the run). This process is then repeated in the end. If he skipped setting up any of these it would cost at least a dozen seconds. Many more like a minute or two in the overworld.
Finally a new upload as good as they are any video after watching them 6 times gets boring time to watch this another 10 times thanks for the new upload curing my boredom :)))
I remember messing with nbt explorer and having the game constantly start at the same place with the same loot (even after closing the game), apparently I time traveled

one time my friends and I were playing manhunt and I went 0/15 before getting my first rod extending the game way longer than it needed to be. I didnt even know it was possible to be that unlucky...

That's already been done. Not sure what it's called (maybe fixed seed glitchless?) but it's a weird hybrid between ssg and rsg. Basically, the speedrunner has never played the seed before but they know that certain things will be in the seed based on what parameters they set for the program

Sorry, but why is the timer just not running? He pauses the game, but when he unpauses, the timer should keep going right? Or is that the time travel aspect? You can play without world updates? Its interesting, it just loses all meaning when it relies on over an hour of setup
Minecraft only increases the in-game timer at certain points, I don't fully understand it but they crash the game in order to not let the in game timer update and therefore can do stuff without the timer timing it. The timer only increments when the game is saved, for example going through a portal or saving and quitting.

I would say we set "arbitrary" boundaries all the time in speedrunning. I put arbitrary in quotes because there's a reason the boundaries are there, after all, but they're also not always obvious in the name of the speedrun itself. ex: could we really say that we're doing an any% run of a game if we don't allow runners to use developer cheats, or to modify game memory from outside? the answer is yes we can, because we have collectively agreed that such things are generally not good for the sake of a watchable and entertaining speedrun, because that is generally the goal of a speedrun. in that sense, it's not the boundaries that are arbitrary; it's the goals that are arbitrary. maybe I want a speedrun that's visually interesting and entertaining, but maybe I want a speedrun where we see if we can overcome the high bar set by an extraordinarily arbitrary goal and set of conditions. and that's what this speedrun is
This is hardly a speedrun, it's more like a IGT glitch exhibition. It took 5 times as long and only served to hang the in-game timer rather than actually run the game quickly. It's well done and this video explained it well but it should probably have it's own category
I feel like as soon as you throw in the elytra the entire theory crafting of the speedrun goes out the window, perfect RNG exists, free shit doesn't, at that point just use commands
I think the the elytra was for fastest possible player speed, which is a pretty neat thing to account for, imo. Speedruns are really about seeing just what, exactly, is possible in the base game, and it's cool to know exactly how long it would take to beat Minecraft with elytra
@@dodhethompson4841 in a way, but, well. There are a lot of speedrunning categories for Minecraft by now. Like. A lot. Considering that some categories are things like "fastest getting of tnt", with times like 5 seconds (using set seed and beach treasure) it kinda makes sense that modifying the game in some way would be the next step. I wouldn't be surprised if Minecraft any% but you have speed two was also a legit category. I don't know if there is already a speedrunning community for Minecraft mods, (like... modpacks, and stuff) but whether or not there is I would expect that more and more of these somehow modified categories are going to crop up. And, well, mods itself do often change the game to the point of being a new game in themself. But hopefully I actually made sense lol It's just like,,, pushing at as many boundaries as you can.

The really crazy part is looking at the Real Time records of all the runners up in this category, they're all less than 15 minutes, while sirpalmtree has almost an hour and a half. He completely reinvented this speedrun.

You have a point, and for exactly that reason it has its own seperate category.
I would say we set "arbitrary" boundaries all the time in speedrunning. I put arbitrary in quotes because there's a reason the boundaries are there, after all, but they're also not always obvious in the name of the speedrun itself. ex: could we really say that we're doing an any% run of a game if we don't allow runners to use developer cheats, or to modify game memory from outside? the answer is yes we can, because we have collectively agreed that such things are generally not good for the sake of a watchable and entertaining speedrun, because that is generally the goal of a speedrun. in that sense, it's not the boundaries that are arbitrary; it's the goals that are arbitrary. maybe I want a speedrun that's visually interesting and entertaining, but maybe I want a speedrun where we see if we can overcome the high bar set by an extraordinarily arbitrary goal and set of conditions. and that's what this speedrun is

This is hardly a speedrun, it's more like a IGT glitch exhibition. It took 5 times as long and only served to hang the in-game timer rather than actually run the game quickly. It's well done and this video explained it well but it should probably have it's own category

I feel like as soon as you throw in the elytra the entire theory crafting of the speedrun goes out the window, perfect RNG exists, free shit doesn't, at that point just use commands
I think the the elytra was for fastest possible player speed, which is a pretty neat thing to account for, imo. Speedruns are really about seeing just what, exactly, is possible in the base game, and it's cool to know exactly how long it would take to beat Minecraft with elytra

Considering that some categories are things like "fastest getting of tnt", with times like 5 seconds (using set seed and beach treasure) it kinda makes sense that modifying the game in some way would be the next step. I wouldn't be surprised if Minecraft any% but you have speed two was also a legit category. I don't know if there is already a speedrunning community for Minecraft mods, (like... modpacks, and stuff) but whether or not there is I would expect that more and more of these somehow modified categories are going to crop up.
And, well, mods itself do often change the game to the point of being a new game in themself. But hopefully I actually made sense lol

You don’t need to use task manager to crash the game, it literally has a built in hotkey to crash itself (f3 + b? for a couple of seconds)

The really crazy part is looking at the Real Time records of all the runners up in this category, they're all less than 15 minutes, while sirpalmtree has almost an hour and a half. He completely reinvented this speedrun.

@@vietnamgamer9490 Minecraft TAS is different from other games because Minecraft TASing is still controlled by a human, it only uses Tickrate slowdown to have more reaction time and faster clicks, That's why it looks like fast forward, also other games like Mario 64 uses a TASbot something like a macro, so Minecraft TAS is alot different
