Good afternoon Chris, tha just for the video, always great and interesting to compare kit! We looked at the Kylmit ones before ultimately settling with the Expeds.
Good demonstrations of the different methods of inflation.....glad to see you had back hasn't affected your lungs 🌬❤👍
Hope you are feeling well and on the mend, great to see this notification pop up....much like a well inflated sleep pad, a joy! 😊 catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ☕ ❤ 🗺 🧭

      Hi Cerri & Kat!! 👋🏻
Yeah thanks, just wanted to get something out and enjoy the filming and editing side of things so wanted to do something. Hopefully it might help someone looking into the items or starting out camping.
Your Expeds did look awesome though and very comfortable. Hope you have sorted a new replacement now Kat!
Haha yeah well I wouldn't have been able to do that a few weeks back when my intercostal muscles were all locked up, but the Diazapam etc helped to relax them. Think that was enough though dont know how blowing all of them up would have been still get the odd pain here n there.
Docs taking the p*** but going private with a few things, MRI scans etc, means im spending money I havent got but want to get sorted!
Still uncomfortable at home and doing stuff but tried my best to look happy on the video haha.
Thanks so much for watching really appreciate it as always 😊 ☺ 😀 🙏🏼
      Take care both 💚💚

I do like the look of the Sea to Summit mat, but I already have a good winter mat in the Exped Synmat Winter UL, which is 9cm thick and I think it’s pretty good. I also have the Trekology UL 80 for summer use, which has been a cracking mat for me as well. A nice addition on the Sea to Summit mat is the Velcro to attach the compatible pillow. Nice review Chris 👍

      @theheightoflife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey!! Thanks for checking them out 😁 The Sea to Summit pad is a great winter pad but definitely not cheap. It was between that and the Thermarest Neoair Xtherm which is a similar price, although the Thermarest does pack down a lot smaller and just as warm. I find the S2S quite a good amount more comfortable though so if you can 'get away' with the extra pack size then definitely have a look at it one day for those frosty nights later in the year.

Hi Paul!! Thanks mate thought id try and get something up even though I cant get out in the mountains.
I thought that when I first got it but after testing it the ridiculous comfort and absolutely insane warmth well trumps the packsize, for me anyway. Obviously might be out of a lot of peoples price range though it is an expensive bit of kit. Cant believe I got that, my Rab Ascent 900 winter bag, all my normal gear and winter gear / extra clothes, jackets, Soulo etc in my Atmos 50L and still had a decent amount of room 🤣 Was gonna get the Neoair Xtherm it packs slightly smaller, about the same price but nowhere near as comfy. The way my back is atm I think I need it LOL.

Great video Chris, I own the klymit and ul80. I also own the xtherm xl. Have had my eye on that sea to summit mat. But weight and size let's it down but still is a incredible mat. I heard its the most comfy one out there. The trekology will not last from what I seen. And every time I used it, some air had come out. The klymit is a good mat. I'm lucky to have the xtherm as I bought a old thermarest second hand on ebay £50 and the baffles went. Contacted thermarest, sent it off to them and they sent me a £220 xtherm xl. Couldn't believe it. So the story is, buy a thermarest and never will need to buy another mat again. Life time guarantee and amazing customer service. It only costs £12 to post for free repairs or even better an exchange for new. Be interesting to see how you get on with the sea to summit. Thanks for sharing Chris and get well soon buddy

    • @Camp-N-Wilddragon

@@Camp-N-Wilddragon Yeah it is a decent pad! Was gonna get the Neoair Xtherm as I borrowed one off someone and it did pack slightly smaller. Was well impressed! But I tried this and it was another level again. Insanely warm its a joke (like the Xtherm) but its stupidly comfortable in comparison so thats what sold me on it and for me that definitely trumped the extra pack size.
Still get that, my Rab Ascent 900 or 1100 winter bag, all my usual gear plus extra winter gear, clothes / jackets etc and my Soulo in my Atmos 50L with a decent bit of room spare so all good 👌🏻🤙🏻

Thanks so much man! Thought id make the effort to get something up even though I cant get out anywhere.
Ive only had my Trekology just over a year so we'll see what happens haha. A lot of people are having Trekology gear fail on them though, but they are just a cheap company and suppose if you get a year out of it you've got your money. But crap though you'd like to think they would last!
Klymit is a decent mat but definitely not my most comfortable.
You got a bargain and a half there and yeah Thermarest customer service is top notch 👌🏻👌🏻 same with their bags, anything goes wrong, send it off and get a new one.
Get a lifetime guarantee with the STS pad too but luckily its got Thermolite air sprung insulation so no standard baffles to fail as its their loop baffle tech. If anything does go wrong for some reason though they will send you a new pad no question.
Thanks so much for watching buddy really appreciate it as always.

@@theheightoflife we bought them, not knowing anything about R rating Chis because when we last camped, we used the old style blow up beds, even a massively deep king size lol, and before that, camp beds and my ass was always cold on those! 🤣🤣

@@maggi666 Haha ahh I get ya... It is all a bit mad when you get into it with how they all work. Well glad to hear you have found a set up that works for you at the moment anyway. But yeah a cheap foil mat underneath will definitely help quite a bit. You can get a decent Highlander one on amazon only about a fiver and dont even have to roll it, folds up pretty small in your pack 👍🏻

@@theheightoflife We've just bought a double sided foil to try because the rolls are thick and bulky to carry on a backpack!

@@maggi666 Cool! Those Highlander ones though instead of rolling it up you can fold it to litterally nothing at all. Just slots down the front or any side of the inside of your pack with ease after youve packed or fits into the little water bladder pocket. Even if there is a water bladder in there too. Definitely takes up too much room if you roll it! 👍🏻

I have UL 80 as was not sure if I’d like wild camping but now upgraded to Thermorest xterm large so looking forward to trying out soon. Been looking for a while it seems all large thermal matts are sold out everywhere at the moment. I may have gone for Exped or sea to summit if they had been available 👍

      Hi!
Yeah the UL80 is definitely a great pad to see if you even like wild camping or not, definitely dont want to be spending £150 - £200 to find out you don't. But GREAT choice of pad!! The Thermarest Neoair Xtherm is a fantastic pad! I nearly got one, and prob still will at some point haha as the warmth is the same as my StS pad but packsize is quite a bit smaller.
Oh right really?? Yeah Exped to some brilliant pads too, I know Andrew Beavers uses one for his winter setup, cant think of the exact one but its their full winter one and swears by it.
Good luck with your Xtherm though happy camping 😁😁🏕🏕

All mats for all seasons! 👏👏👏
I need to go shopping for a winter mat, my trekology let me down at the weekend.. I was gutted! Awesome video as always mate and still hoping you have a speedy recovery 🤘🍻

Cheers pal!! These are my go-to mats. But yeah saw your vid with your Trekology mat failing. Paul's failed (A Cumbrian Lad Outdoors) too so that's always gonna be on my mind now lol. Will definitely only be a summer pad for me.
Thank you very much indeed for watching! I know you know about pads already so really appreciate it 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hoping this may help someone searching for pads or just starting out to show the differences maybe. If I can help anyone im happy 😊
Thanks for the well wishes too 🙏🏼
      Take care matey!!

I have the klymit insulated static v and while it's great for not letting any cold air through, I just find it a little bit narrow and I don't sleep particularly well on it. I like the look of the sea to summit but waaaaaaaay out of my current price range, plus, given its size and the time of year it will be getting used, it'll have to be a decent size pack to fit all the other winter gear in. There's just so much to consider when winter camping isn't there? Cheers, hope your back is better soon 😁

    • @theheightoflife
      @theheightoflife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah I know what you mean, as you could see when I was on it I was litterally on its limits. My Thermarest Questar bag has straps underneath to secure the pad but if I use another sleeping bag I end up waking up half off it. That doesn't happen with my other ones.
The Sea To Summit one is expensive yeah but its so unbelievably comfortable and very very warm indeed. The packsize is big but somehow I still manage to fit that, my Rab Ascent 900 winter bag, all my usual gear snd extra gear / clothes etc into my Atmos 50L AG pack with still some room to spare if I needed it.
Maybe I could do a video on that untill I can get out? 🤔
Winter camping and packing is so much different to summer camps though for sure!! Loads more to consider you're right there.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch as always 🙏🏼😊👍🏻
      Take care pal.. Chris
