  • NOORDUNG is an experimental short film showcasing the beauties of our solar system. It is a personal project dedicated to the Slovene rocket engineer and pioneer of cosmonautics Herman Potocnik Noordung. He is chiefly remembered for his work addressing the long-term human habitation of space.
At the end of 1928, he published his sole book, Das Problem der Befahrung des Weltraums - der Raketen-Motor (The Problem of Space Travel - The Rocket Motor) in Berlin. Potočnik's book described geostationary satellites (first put forward by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky) and discussed communication between them and the ground using radio, but fell short of the idea of using satellites for mass broadcasting and as telecommunications relays (developed by Arthur C. Clarke in his Wireless World article of 1945). The wheel-shaped space station served as an inspiration for further development by Wernher von Braun (another former VfR member) in 1952. Von Braun saw orbiting space stations as a stepping stone to travel to other planets. In 1968, Stanley Kubrick's ground-breaking film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, depicted such a role for "Space Station V".

I just looked through several dozen videos trying to find some featuring the outer planets of the Solar System. I wasn't satisfied until i found this.

My only complaint about this video is that it's too short! Well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I make similar videos but I don't have the software to come even close to your stunning work. This is the best and most true-to-life / accurate rendering that I've ever seen and gives a real sense of actually being there. Your artificial gravity spacecraft concept is what I imagine will be the future of long-duration Solar System travel. I would love to see a longer film and I would suggest an imaginary voyage to Alpha Centauri where we visit a planet in the system's habitable zone. Thank you for this work which hopefully has set a precedent for all future space projects!

Hi Kristijan. I notice this is a creative commons video. It's beautiful. Would you mind if i used a few shots as background to a home studio music cover video I'm doing of 'Drops of Jupiter' by Train?

The gap between Saturn and its closest ring is WAY too wide. Only one Earth diameter separates Saturn’s atmosphere from the closest Saturnian ring
