@Lucas R. Alves he doesn't heal me at all. By the time I take damage he went and used up all his mp spamming magic.
Anime Rush Or maybe you could change his settings to be a more defensive/support companion which is imo the best role for him since Sora does almost all the damage.
Or he dies before anything can happen, and you don't want to waste a valuable heal just for him to get OHKO'd again

And I actually kind of liked Lance Bass' proformance as Sephiroth compaired to his official voice in KH2 and in the Disidia games. Not that that voice is bad, I just dont like how monotone he sounds sometimes.

I'm surprised that Caddy didn't bring up that one part in the very beginning of the game where you're forced to choose and give up an item among three items, each having unique perks, without any clear indication of what choosing or giving up whichever item meant in the long run. That, and the NCP questionnaire that determines level progression

Kingdom hearts was one of those series that I found the first one randomly at a secondhand shop, and fell in love. KH 2 is honestly one of my favourite games of all time. It's a nearly perfect game in my opinion. (yes I know it's totally biased)

Kh1 is the one that nails the tone and overall atmosphere, along with having a simple yet involving story. Also the worlds actually felt like worlds instead of just hallways.
KH2 is basically Devil May Cry Lite when it comes to gamplay, which is why it is still the best Kingdom Hearts game up to date, even if the story went off the rails and has been off the rails ever since.
The story of KH2 wasn't the problem, the problem is them making it a sequel to chain of memories (a gba game), so everyone who only played KH1 was like "WHO THE FUCK ARE THOSE CHARACTERS AND WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?"

Rbin Lmijer I mean specifically in a story aspect. Many people do say that KH2 is better, but I usually only hear that's because of the gameplay and much less about the story. For me the story was on equal parts with the gameplay

When i was a kid i got a demo disc for this, had no gameplay but interviews and sneek peaks.

I broke my whole controller on this one as a kid. I had finished every other 'sidequest' except defeating sephiroth. I died a good 30 times before i just fucking threw the controller against the wall and it just destroyed the controller and put a big dent in the wall.
The only people who think Kingdom Hearts has a convoluted story haven't payed attention, haven't played the "spin off" titles (spoiler, there's no such thing as a spin off Kingdom Hearts game), or both

Kingdom Hearts: Best video game ever ( in my opinion)
5:00 Honestly, I really like how Riku is the one that gets manipulated by Maleficent. At the beginning, it seems that Sora would be the one to be the cloud-headed main character that wants to pursue lofty ambitions, but it’s RIKU who’s the one to do that, and him being gullible to his lofty ambitions and him having friction with Sora makes his dark-side turn tons of sense.
The one thing I love/hate about Kingdom Hearts is that every side game on a different console had important story in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Kingdom Hearts 1 to 2 wasn't a direct sequel and would have made you think about what happened to Sora, having important plot that was missed if you didn't know the side games existed.
However I do like that this stories existed to give whole KH universe so much more depth and that is what made me love KH as a whole. In the end, all the KH games made it into a remaster so anyone who was confused about the story in general will now be able to understand it fully.

I never even noticed Snow White's feet are visible in her stained glass portrait until very recently. I always thought that her legs were abnormally short because her skirt length didn't match where her feet should have been, I thought the skirt was actually covering her shoes, so her scale and sizing always looked so off to me.
I can't believe it took me so long to notice...

I completely agree with your opinion Caddy! As someone who started with KH2 and then played KH1, I felt as if the controls were incredibly stiff, like I barely had any control over Sora. The one thing from the game that I hated the most wasn't the worlds. Oh no, it was the second Riku fight. It took me WAY too long to beat him. Maleficent (non-dragon) gave me a slight problem but Riku was merciless. I nearly gave up on even beating the game because of him. Once I did though, I breezed through the rest of the game. Final form Ansem ain't got anything on second fight Riku. But let me tell you, when I clicked on the '?????' in the Coliseum tournament, I had never panicked so hard. Barely lasted a minute.
here's hoping Caddy enjoys KH2 on a replay, nice to see that he liked KH 1.
Seriously my favorite series in all of gaming. Light-hearted, interesting story, alright characters, great combat, and most importantly fun for both people old and young.
I was even able to get my younger sisters into the game and they haven't really played games much before.
I'd say it's like playing Bayonetta then jumping into Devil May Cry 1. Lol

They fixed lock on in later games. Especially in bbs. Lock on becomes an invincible limit, with a gauge dedicated to it, that depletes depending on how long you hold the lock on button down

Man, if you already disliked the "Prologue" on Destiny Islands when, it's actually really short if you just go for the items and don't spend hours grinding with Tidus, Wakka and Selphie, you're gonna *hate* the Prologue in KH2. XD

Kingdom Hearts as a story is a fucking shitshow and weirdly enough I think that's one of the most alluring aspects of the franchise. Like almost every single line of dialogue is complete nonsense (kinda excluding KH1 but kinda not) and absolutely none of it makes any sense whatsoever. Yet through all the bullshit Birth by Sleep and 358/2 days can genuinely be really emotionally effective and that blows my mind.
there's actually more to the tree sliding game. i forget how you do it, but it can be turned into a minigame all about collecting fruits. once unlocked you can then find alternate paths in it, which will lead to different areas of the lower map.

The idea of the fusion between final fantasy and disney has always baffled, confused and scared me. I don't have anything against the series, but as an outsider with no knowledge the games look so goofy for a serious story heavy jrpg series.
Clayton was a cool boss ?
In hard mode he can shoot his gun in 2 frames, one shotting you through a wall during your dodge while turning his back to you, it's the most random boss I've ever had the displeasure to fight.
But the rest of the game is awesome !

11:55 You can. You lock on and press L2 to switch targets in KH1. In KH2 you have to hold L2 or R2 and use the right stick to switch the target.
No, the gummi ship parts are pure garbage. The reticle which doesn't even correspond accurately to where you're shooting? Garbage. No reason to ever customize a ship either, as the starter is more than enough. Just crappy filler.
On the topic of magic in KH1 it's actually very powerful if you boost Sora's max MP as high as you can. but I, and i'm sure many other players ended up just whacking everything with the keyblade on their first playthrough or two. Final Mix even encourages you to use summons and magic for some of the special heartless.
Am I the only one who thinks Caddy can be very funny when he' uses his normal voice? And that his computer distortion of voice is very cirngy?

Thing is, once I got that help, I was always able to make my way to the dragon alone. On Expert.

Fun fact: The music composer of Kingdom Hearts (Yoko Shimomrua), has also done the music for Super Mario RPG and the Mario and Luigi games.
Still the best in the series in my opinion. 2 is so overrated to me. It's story is mostly filler, it's plot is like a badly written anime. It's combat is fun but it's other gameplay elements are flat and bland. KH1 was clunky but every bit of it was glowing with charm. You could actually explore the worlds in the first game and there's was little puzzle and side quests you could do. 2 really only has excellent combat to hold it together for me.

Every Disney words plot with the exception of Beasts Castle and Space Paranoids is completely filler. In Kingdom Hearts 1 every Disney world provided universe building and contributed to the main narrative. None of that is there in KH2. The writing in 2 is also terrible, like really bad juvenile writing, and if the worlds actually provided some exploration beyond linear hallways I might not mind the filler. It's a good game in terms of combat mechanics, but pretty much everything else in my opinion is below average.

Same, the story is KH2 isn't just hard to follow, it's poorly constructed. I'm replaying it now, and having a blast but..having played almost the entire series all the way through not too long ago, the dialogue and..frankly the characters' animations and how they emote seemed to go downhill, starting with 2. For instance, the scene in KH1 where Sora discovers where Kairi's heart is, is still an emotionally charged scene for me. Nothing in KH2 got me to feel that way. It was like Sora became even more naive and less mature somehow. Could just be me or a minority of the KH audience but yeah.
Just a little tip for locking on and the summons if you look in the settings you can turn off auto-lock and summon animations so you don't have to view them more than once

Like Degenerates said, Caddy loved the first game :) And his main issue was how clucky the controls felt. Upon revisiting the game. He enjoyed it so much. ^_^

I realize this is an older video so I don't know if someone has addressed this one, but at 11:56 when you talk about being able to toggle targets while locking on would have been nice, you can do that you silly goose. I can't quite remember which button it is, but it's either L1 or L2 I believe. This has been a feature in the game since the original version on the PlayStation 2. In fact, this was a feature that was also present in RE:Chain of Memories, but was removed for some reason from the rest of the games in the series. Why? I have no clue because it was one of the most useful mechanics in the original game.
Kind of bothers me that Caddy doesn't care for Final Fantasy but cares about Kingdom Hearts ugh.

Just finished Final Fantasy 7 recently and possibly one of the greatest games I've played, especially the story.
I'm kinda the same, I'm going to play the 7 remake, and 15 whenever I get a PS4, still mainly a KH guy.

Obviously there's a lot different, but between the surprisingly similar age and the many shared views and steps in life we took growing up, I'm starting to wonder if I have a secret brother. But then I remember how awesome he is and I'm like nahhhhhhh
I always thought Riku was slowly being taken over by Ansem SoD, maleficent's peer pressure essentially speeding the process and in turn making Riku easier to convince

fun fact. when i 1st played this game i quit because i couldn't find some o f the items need to get off destiny island, and only learned where they were thanks to a strategy guide at a gamestop one day while shopping.
now for those who want the story it goes as such: unchained key, birth by sleep, a fragmentary passage ( 0.2 ), kh 1, 358/2 days, chain of memories, kh 2, re:coded, dream drop distance, 3.
i will suggest final mix for bbs,1,2 since more content that wasn't in the west vanilla kh versions. play 0.2 after kh 1 since the ending will make better sense. 358/2 days and chain of memories actually take place close to each other so they interlock / swap between. the rest just play as is. if you want to know what 0.2 is it is just a kh 3 demo to show you how 3 would eventually look and play.
My introduction to Kingdom Hearts was very similar to yours, Caddy. I never cared for the Final Fantasy games when I was a kid either (I like them now, but at the time they just weren't really my thing), but I've *always* been a big Disney nut and once I saw a trailer for the first game on the VHS of Mickey's House of Villains, I had to get a copy as soon as I got my PS2 and I've been hooked ever since!
hey Caddy, just some tips for if you decide to play this game again, the Shield, Sword and Staff at the beginning determine your stats AND the order in which you unlock abilities through levelling up, the 3 questions you are asked on Destiny Islands by Tidus, Wakka and Selphie matter, they determine how fast you level up (youll have to look up the combinations) you can switch between targets its L2, i dont think this returns in later games. (if i think of anymore tips ill keep on editing this ocmment :))
You could actually swap hardlock targets in the original PS2 version because it used a VERY different control scheme. The PS3 and PS4 versions changed it to basically the KH2 setup.
It’s nice to see that someone else enjoys the Gummi Ship sections from this game as well!
The main crippling flaw with this game's combat is the 3 hit rotation Sora has when you attack. Its a stiff 3 hit combo that locks you in place, where the final hit knocks the enemy away from you.
This game's combat gets tedious when you're constantly having to chase enemies you hit all the way across the room
You got to realise though KH 1 was a early Ps2 game, and so had quite alot of Ps1 games flaws.

The tree sliding minigame in deep jungle does change, unfortunatley only on a return visit though.
Yeah agreed on the controls, I went from bloodborne's responsive, measured controls to kingdom hearts and it took a while getting used to, the hits just don't feel nearly as satisfying in KH as they do in BB, both are great games overall though.
The opening cutscene for KH1 brings back so many memories. I feel it still has the best remix of Simple & Clean tbh.
