If you’re building a superstar team, Cale Makar is clearly the #1 D that you want. You could definitely make a case for Fox, but no one else comes close to them.
I think there’s a few other than those 2 who would look just as good with a theoretical allstar team around them but I agree he’s the best as an individual player
Q. Hughes is the only one in Makar's tier. Just watch Q. Hughes highlights and Makar's. There's no other d-men who can do what these 2 can do on a consistent basis.
@@mcj44 Fox wasn't that much better than Hughes even 6 months ago. I could definitely agree with Makar being way better than Hughes and Fox 6 months ago. Not sure why the original commenter thought Fox was that closed to Makar even 6 months ago. Hughes, in the past, was absurdly ranked like as a 3rd tier d-man by Eastern media as the east doesn't really pay much attention to western players (due to later games) unless said western players are above and beyond their peers (like Makar or McDavid).
Guy have to learn to catch him with the hip as he goes thru that outside lane against the boards...but its just so dang hard. But ive seen a few more guys figuring him out, baiting the outaide and timing the hit. Hip is far better than a body check in that situation, a good defender can cover more range that way and hit a guy that thinks he is past you.
His skating and hands work so well together, its like watching an artist paint their magnum opus

Dahlin.

@@baiqi44 this comment was six months ago though, Hughes wasn’t viewed as a Norris favourite back then

That tomahawk stride at 3:10 is insane, must other guys in the league would tear their ACL trying to do that
The skating at 2:27 is so impressive
Great compilation. This will blow up. Maybe Miro Heiskanen compilation next?
The number of guy that just fell down trying to catch him is unreal.
Makar will be an all timer for sure
Goat defenseman
0:26 when you fool the video camera in hockey... your what?...
Very unique
Noticing a trend by Kale of "Deke inside, move outside along the boards" :)
Yes but if you cheat on the outside he's gonna burn you on the inside and dive in the slot and that's the last thing you want
He does both.
Nice video nice timing
He's a freak. GO AVS!
When you mix defense with superstar skating... you get Makar... who else is close to have to combo and use it this well?
Hes the hockey equivalent to having the joker on the nuggets! What a time to live in Denver
Nice, his main move is fake inside tomahawk stride or protect the puck down the boards to get a shot or pass.
its like hes on a toilet taking a poo then farts and more poo comes out

Lane Hutson is even shiftier.
but can he do what makar does on a nightly basis
We gotta wait and see if it translates to the nhl.
@@FlexSZN23 With his first 2 games, i think he will easily translate.
Anyone else see a pattern to his "moves" ...... Fake to the inside slide down the wall.
Obviously....but if you cheat to the outside even a little, he will go inside. And that's worse. So you give the outside as his only option.
