    Makar's moves are quick versions of the "Crosby turn." Drawing the turn out requires the hips to be kept open longer. This is a stressful position to hold. Makar doesn't open his hips all the way, and they are only open for an instant.

    I’ve tried an I simply don’t have the ankle flexibility of you or Makar

      1. Great username
      2. You can improve ankle mobility, dorsiflexion & eversion with drills. 99% of the time it's a neurological limitation, not a physical one, as your body simply doesn't believe you can allow your ankles to move that way safely but you can.
      Lookup ankle mobility drills for hockey & ATG (Knees over Toes guy) to learn about how to improve ankle eversion & dorsiflexion.

    Us hockey players would really benefit from learning to figure skate!!! Figure skaters can do all kinds of stuff like that…or more! 😉

    • @museinglis1979

      Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard that some professional skills trainers (in Sweden?) do actually use figure skating techniques with their hockey students!

      There are lots of players that work with figure skating coaches, and quite a few NHL/high-level skating coaches have figure skating backgrounds, so it has made plenty of inroads.

    The difference is cale makar is in the NHL and he does what he does with others... Nhl players on the ice. Im pretty amazing i think Hahaha... When nobody is on the ice with me.

  • @michaelhiltz7846

    I never really understood why people think this is so hard. I have been skating like that since I was a kid. Now I can't skate as well as Makar, if I could I would be in the NHL competing with or against him. But opening your skates like that to turn is something I have always done

    • @milesjoseph7500
      @milesjoseph7500 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Looking at Makar's replays in slow-mo, it's a combination of speed, puck control, and body fakes. I think doing all of this in a real game makes it really hard. I can open up my skates easy in any public skating session too - doing it to lose a NHL-calibre defender is a different ball (puck) game

      Ok coolio 😂

    • @AlexB-zw4bs
      @AlexB-zw4bs ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here. It's an innate and natural feeling part of my game and I often transition in and out of mohawks in all kinds of different ways throughout games. With that said, outside edge punch/jamb turns are substantially more challenging for me, to the extent that I can barely do them in-game. I can't even stop one-legged on an outside edge like players do when going to the bench. I've been skating since I was like 6 but never was coached or played men's league until I was 24.

    • @mshahidil
      @mshahidil ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Have you ever played with players from a div (or two) above you? They do everything you can do but just better. Same idea here - ok you can open up your skates but can you do it at speed with a puck when another player is on you taking away space and time?
      The point of the video isn't to get you to where Makar is, but to show the skills Makar uses in a training environment so viewers can design drills for whatever level they're at.
