    Shamelessly stolen from pauls hardware:
    The GTX 970 (2014, $330) was 21% faster than the GTX 780 (2013, $650)
    The GTX 1070 (2016, $380) was 29% faster than the GTX 980 (2014, $550)
    The RTX 2070 (2018, $500) was 16% faster than the GTX 1080 (2016, $600)
    The RTX 3070 (2020, $500) was 26% faster than the RTX 2080 (2018, $700)
However, 4070 is basically identical to 3080 for just 100$ less. I guess it's a good graphics card, but NVIDIA have robbed us of most of the performance per $ improvements with this insane pricing.
I hope people don't buy them so NVIDIA is forced to lower the price, but given how well the "bad value" 3060 sold, I'm not holding my breath.

Technically the 3060 has aged better than the 3060ti, 3070 and 3070ti. The 12GB of vram allows the 3060 to run more stable on newer games. Sure lower FPS, but far less stutters and graphic issues.

I wouldnt think twice between the 4070 and 4070ti - because everything that will stutter 2 years from now in 4k will also not run smooth on the 4070ti either. there is not enough raw power difference there, and maybe more decisive, the same amount of rather skimpy 12GB of VRam. the 4070 seems to be the more round package. 100$/€ less would have been nice though. but its understandable, there is no direct competitor in that price range.

Sold my 1080 ti to my brother for $200. So I ended up only having to pay $400 for the 4070. It’s perfect for my needs. The power efficiency is amazing as well as thermals. I don’t play super high refresh rate competitive games. Maybe 120 fps at 1440p. I’m more of the single player type. And with DLSS 3.5 right around the corner with the new Cyberpunk DLC I couldn’t be happier.
