I'd say the biggest issues for being "Realistic", is that AEGIS will not engage SCUDs in most cases, because they're extremely inaccurate and the system won't waste ordinance on them unless they're actually going to hit the fleet, and the carrier would have planes up especially if they're going that close to shore. Patriot has been able to distinguish SCUDs that are a threat from SCUDs that are definitely going to miss since like, the early 2000s
Aegis calculates where the missiles will land while still in flight. That’s how they can announce a missile was fired at a particular area in Israel even though it was intercepted by an Arleigh-Burke over the Red Sea. In fact 4 days ago the US ship Mason had two “ballistic missile’s” fired at IT from Yemen (after it intervened in the hijacking of commercial ship Central Park) and judged them as not a threat so let them harmlessly splash into the water less than ten miles from the ship. The captain explicitly said they assessed them as not a threat so did not bother firing at them.
Also Aegis (as well as patriot) will automatically identify a threat based on known characteristics. So not only do they know where it will land they know exactly what missile it is just a few seconds after launch.
I think Matrix is so good at milsim because he's salty that he never got to drop Durandals and Paveways all over Soviet armor in Germany and now he's making up for it. Just a theory... lol
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but as we went through the straits we went into general quarters and had Marines on the catwalks and around the edge of the flight deck with 50cals and manpads (Mainly on the Suez) I was on the Bataan and Wasp circa 2003-2004
They would, but in DCS it takes more time for the Smerch's and scuds to fire than for the AShM's so cap would have had to set up staggered delays to get that result. Iirc in DCS it takes about 5 minutes for scuds to launch, vs silkworms which are almost instant.
USS Mason on 27th had ballistic missiles land 10 miles from them. Didn't intercept. Even though they are moving fast the computing power of the radars can still predict where it is going to land. No point sending out a 1million dollar missile it if it going to miss. Would have been tracked all the way

"Houthi's would not use drones for anti-ship" & "Houthi BMs could not hit moving ships" ... In one piece, sort of. 35:58 A million or two for some new canopies, but it is best that way. Probably helps the arresting wire last longer because less weight. That's just silly.
What happened to having a Ticonderoga in the group? Usually there is at least 1 cuiser in a carrier group and they carry more missiles than Arleigh Burks. My only real issues is that and the fact that Aegis is so accurate it can identify the type of incoming weapon systems based on many factors. The Aegis system is honestly terrifying at how good it is as it actually links to all the ships and their radar systems as well as aircraft. The weapon systems are all links together too. Its like freaking skynet. Still love the simulations though. Keep it up!
7:54 cap there’s a fundamental flaw with Your logic regarding the unguided stuff and the scuds. Aegis can predict where the incoming ordinance will land and will selectively engage targets based on the threat level they pose. (Similar to how iron dome works against the rockets fired by hamas and how patriot does as well) so the csg wouldn’t engage the ones that aren’t threats, we have seen this in real life with this exact situation, they fired ballistic missiles at an arleigh Burke that was responding to the pirate attack and missed, the ship knew they weren’t gonna hit so it didn’t hit the missiles
@@grimreapers yeah I know game limitations unfortunately prevent that and I think aegis in game fires everything anyway but irl the carrier group would be more efficient with its weapons
You said in the video “in real life they would have to fire as well because they couldn’t risk it” and I think everybody just wants to clarify with you that isn’t the case in real life. Food for thought, AEGIS can track the missiles as they reach their apex and begin descending. It can predict where the missile will land down to singular ft. Not meters, not yards, FEET and INCHES. acutaly. come to think of it, 10 miles is so short a range that guided krasnopol rounds can hit ships. Have you tried to defend against guided gun artillery?
Krasnopol rounds would be a pretty interesting approach, but the artillery and observers would need to be in range of Hellfire's and the 5-inch naval gun with the observer possibly within range of the 25 mm bushmaster to say nothing of SM-2s and the carrier air wing. I also haven't heard any reports of that system being in Houthi hands which makes it less relevant.
When I was a kid playing Tornado [1993] we used to drop 2 or 3 laser guided bombs in a single pass, about 5 seconds apart from each other, then cut the throttle and guide them all onto different [but near by] targets, is that not actually a thing, or is that just not a thing you do?
@@Thewhitetile DCS is _a little_ more realistic than Tornado was, It was awesome for the time but a 30 year old game isn't going to have a very good model in comparison... It would be fun to have another column in the cost/damage counter on the scoreboard for fish, swimmers, fishing boats, and other stuff that might be out there.
If they would aim the unguided misseles in the path of the fleet they could technicly be used to take out the fleet. It would need very skilled operators, but since it is a surpise attack the ships would probably sail pretty straight wich makes it easier
the altitude is on the right side of the HUD, right? just about the flashing FLIR? If so, Cap spent most of his time in the bombing runs in range of manpads, and never got targeted. clearly, we need more stingers in future episodes.
Hey Cap, you've been making a few tutorials lately, could you do one where you show the audience how you quickly swap between all the angles? Just a big of behind the scenes stuff in general?
Not true....the radar can deconflict and classify tracks. Tbms types are identified buy cross section flight characteristics and origin and a ground impact point GIP is generated and if it out of bounds. Not threatening, the system will not shoot it and not waste an interceptor

At 15 miles out, you would think that they would be able to see the launch platforms getting set up well before a coordinated strike could take place. Launch platform should probably have to be well further back, at least out of direct los. It even then, you know, satellite, and other signal intelligence plus zoom zoomy CAP squawking about long, fast, explody thingys on the ground. On the other hand, I don’t think that the simulation could handle a way that somebody could get around that, as it would have to be some crazy World War II commando wacky Crap to pull this off. So…carry on! I’m satisfied!
What does the modern US navy have for ship launched land attack? This makes it seem like there's a case for having something quick firing enough to use for counter-battery with comparable range and that can be used when friendly fire concern keep the manned assets on the deck. The question is how useful? Eventually a strike group needs to get close to land (after all, holding ocean is pointless if it doesn't let you hold land). Has anyone ever explored putting 155mm's on modern ships? Or maybe some sort of tactical range ballistic missile?
127mm (5 inch) gun and the BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles are the primary anti-surface weapons on an Arleigh Burke class destroyer. They also have 25mm guns, SM-2, and SM-6 which could be used depending on range as well as 1-2 SH-60 helicopters that could respond with troops, machine guns and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.
@@duanemckinley9353 the 127mm, 25mm and AGM-114s (assuming the launchers for the last aren't grounded to avoid blue-on-blue) might fit the bill. The rest seem more like using a 4 bore to shoot a mouse. How many Tomahawks can they get off in the first minute after they have a target to service? And how many 127mm rounds and power can you buy for the cost one of any of those missiles?
Can anyone answer this; If there is a lot of anti missile missile activity does that create a lot of debris or chaff that radar has difficulty penetrating or is that not an issue?
This map represents the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, in South Sinai Governorate, on the coastal strip along the Red Sea. Sharm El Sheikh is an Egyptian city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula so this map isn't Yemen and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait is way farther to the south where Yemens true location is. Why did you use Egypt to represent Yemen?
"fire ballistic missiles at the near location of a moving carrier group, the carrier group has no choice just to shoot those down". This is incorrect. AEGIS can classify the threat based on a HUGE range of parameters, and for ballistic missiles, can also tell the relative location that these munitions will land in. This can be showcased by the recent Houthi / Yemen strike towards a US cruiser that didn't need to shoot the missile down, as they detected it would not land close enough to justify shooting it down, and that was only a miss by 10+ miles or so.
But these were not aimed ten miles from the CSG, the CSG in this case was in the beaten zone for the scuds so AEGIS would definitely attempt to intercept.
@@mecampbell30Actually DCS *does* do this. The AEGIS in the Sim (and AFAIK all sams) operate based on threat levels. The radar sees a contact, assess its threat level based on what the contact is and interceptors available and responds accordingly. It's definitely not as good as real sam systems (especially 21st century ones) but it does work on the same principle. This is why ships will fire fewer interceptors at shorter ranges the lower the number of sams they have remaining.
Could you do a sim of if Yemen were to actually attack the USA, how the USA would respond? Is there a way to sim that? side note, I feel the sheer cost of what the US fired in defense says they win.

HEY CAP. can you make this battle again but the scuds fire first the drones lunch second unguided rockets third and the STYX and YJ-83s fourth or just make them all fire at the same time. Thank you.
Only thing I could see was they would likely launch the missiles from far away in advance, then the unguided, and then the guided, trying to get them all in at the same time and saturate the carrier group..
im loving your video and the relistic aproic. sorry about hte miss spelling..
i would also advice iran ans houis have talked about dummy driones and missiles to double the number in taking the shoots fired down before real missiles come in making it much more danguours. i know the videos goal is to show some what of relistic in take on what owuld happen so just putting that in there but amought that great video
It kinda sounds like one of those SAMs has the farter-1 designation.
(probably a chemical weapon)
lol zaaaap!
acutaly. come to think of it, 10 miles is so short a range that guided krasnopol rounds can hit ships. Have you tried to defend against guided gun artillery?
I was thinking that a s-23 artillary battery could engage the carrier group.
Will investigate but I think this is not yet poss in game. (ships can't see them)
Seriously, there would be air cover and early retaliation from the Carier Group
Did you watch the briefing?
I don't know who said it, but whoever said "hothies would never use a drone for AShW" is wrong, they have done that in real life.
When I was a kid playing Tornado [1993] we used to drop 2 or 3 laser guided bombs in a single pass, about 5 seconds apart from each other, then cut the throttle and guide them all onto different [but near by] targets, is that not actually a thing, or is that just not a thing you do?
It is possible but not very easy. A number of us tried it today and only ever had the first hit a target.
Yup but outside of my skill level...
@@Thewhitetile DCS is _a little_ more realistic than Tornado was, It was awesome for the time but a 30 year old game isn't going to have a very good model in comparison... I mean, we didn't even have to worry about burning the laser out back then.
I guess I'll ask the next fighter pilot I meet to ask about real life..... I have only ever met one fighter pilot ;)
@@grimreapers Wish I could afford DCS to give it a try myself ;)
I wonder how much damage the falling debri would cause
Damage from falling debri on fleet. When missiles and rockets are intercepted they don’t fall straight down
Probably a lot as it's moving fast.
I call BS! there is no way that they all got back in one piece in a GR video!
Yeh I thought this...
It would be fun to have another column in the cost/damage counter on the scoreboard for fish, swimmers, fishing boats, and other stuff that might be out there.
What would the Yemen, where this all were shot from, looks like after the US has done it's job? I guess the damage would be off the scale....
If they would aim the unguided misseles in the path of the fleet they could technicly be used to take out the fleet. It would need very skilled operators, but since it is a surpise attack the ships would probably sail pretty straight wich makes it easier
Is there s SeaRam system in DCS?
the altitude is on the right side of the HUD, right? just about the flashing FLIR? If so, Cap spent most of his time in the bombing runs in range of manpads, and never got targeted. clearly, we need more stingers in future episodes.
I think the actual ceiling of Igla-S is 18,000ft. I added an extra 2000ft for security.
I dont like how the ships dont appear to be performing evasive menuevers. In a real situation like this, they would be.
Can you do a video on the f-15 strike on Jabal Attan base
Think cap needs to add canopy expensive to score cost bosrd
They'll see us later, not if we see them first....lol
@15:30 ish " war prawns" ?? , is this video going to get aegis restricted?
oof!
Hey Cap, you've been making a few tutorials lately, could you do one where you show the audience how you quickly swap between all the angles? Just a big of behind the scenes stuff in general?
I hope they didn't use this as their tutorial Cap...
Not true....the radar can deconflict and classify tracks. Tbms types are identified buy cross section flight characteristics and origin and a ground impact point GIP is generated and if it out of bounds. Not threatening, the system will not shoot it and not waste an interceptor
Noted.
super intersting fun misson and also has value in in reallty abosly its a sim not real life:) fun cap make me happy with his fast talking and jokes:) did you guys ever tryed to simulate missle fire backwerds? like the iron dome on fighter aircrafts?
cool idea ha?
probbly not possble but cool nontheless! sry for my bad english ;)
You plane your war but in real life they first fire drone and unguided missile then cruise missiles and ballistic
Next time try p800 onyx
I don't see EW used in your scenarios. Is that not in the mix for the game?
Can you do f-16 mlu vs kilo class in the black sea.
Will try.
@@grimreapersif you do see if you can use the mark 46 torpedoes
The modern ships are used in are in service so to who ever said to many modern ships were used is insane but only 3 burke 3's and 3 Ticonderoga 's
What about Houthi rebels vs Type 45 Destroyer the UK is moving into the golf?
I'm not sure our 45's will have enough missiles to defend? eek
@@grimreapers I thought about that, not sure if they would with the Frigate HMS Lancaster with its 32 sea ceptors?
Don’t think I quite realise how many missiles the Houthi Rebels had :/
Damn first time being this early for a vid
There would be a tico with the carrier.
Nope
@@AmirShafeek yes there would be…12 are still in service.
Venezuela is preparing to invade Ghana right now…future mission?
??? I think you mean Guyana.
One question guys. How you get the scoreboard on the topright of the screen? I havent found a tutorial for that.
Thanks!
Where I can find the map? you need to have the beta version?
Can anyone answer this; If there is a lot of anti missile missile activity does that create a lot of debris or chaff that radar has difficulty penetrating or is that not an issue?
This map represents the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, in South Sinai Governorate, on the coastal strip along the Red Sea. Sharm El Sheikh is an Egyptian city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula so this map isn't Yemen and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait is way farther to the south where Yemens true location is. Why did you use Egypt to represent Yemen?
This map consists of Egypt, Palestine and small parts of Syria and Jordan. It doesn't extend down to Yemen
@@realseif4759 Aaah ok thank you.
@@92HazelMocha More importantly DCS can't do that so it's kind of irrelevant.
He's talking about in game.. AEGIS in game isn't as smart as it is irl
Yes but the Scud CEP allows them to be accurate enough to land the missile within the foot print of the CSG. At least in game that's true anyway.
Cap in God mode! Another great video. But then he just had to fly denying us of the big picture! When will he learn?
Yeh I have to balance flying and watching.
Could you do a sim of if Yemen were to actually attack the USA, how the USA would respond? Is there a way to sim that?
side note, I feel the sheer cost of what the US fired in defense says they win.
Everything is modellable - it's just a matter of how much time I can spend setting things up.
Someone should get onto the Ghost Rider mod so they can really portray reality.
👍🙂
You start off by saying you want it more realistic but won’t have SuperHornets or F-35C already airborne.
You wouldn't want fighters airborne while the ships are engaging missiles, friendly fire is always possible with missiles with active radar
Addressed in the brief
Only one CSG has an F35 wing.
@@TFY-v8l they would be up in a confined area like that. That’s the fleets best offense.
@@davidtaylor4975 yep and realistic was in that brief.
