- This video replaces an earlier video that was based on the pre-release version of the F-4E. The full DT bomb delivery mode is now working.
Thanks to @HeatblurSimulations for providing a preview copy of the module

*Dive toss is the recommended version to use the bombs
0:01 intro and talks about personal phantom delays
6:26 bombing table
7:50 setting the dials (release controls)
9:12 if radar is set to 10mi, that’s good (your in dive toss mode)
10:40 first bombing run with explanation
12:00 explaining roll in method (stop rolling in early because reticle lags behind your pull)
As per the previous version, thankyou for videos that I can keep up with. It is heartening to know there is at least one other person that finds learning the nuances of every aspect of planes like the Viggen and the F4 to be daunting, and your channel goes a long way towards easing that burden. 👍
Thanks, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, the Heatblur manual is very much written as an "engineering reference" it is a comprehensive list of the functionality that is present, but not described by function. It also contains words and phrases which are clearly well understood by the developers and others with intimate knowledge of the module but which are pretty opaque to the average user.
I hope the success of your channel only goes up. I really like the pace and simplicity of how you explain things and not rapid fire the steps to the point I have to watch it ten times. It fits the speed of DCS I feel
I'm really glad you find it useful
Nice hits man! Your videos are invaluable for us fresh pilots!
You remind me of "Greg's airplanes and automobiles" and thats a good thing.
I agree that's a big compliment. Thanks!
@@Sidekick65 you have a great voice and way of talking about systems in a easily digestible way. I'll have to follow for future videos
Hey. Please do. And tell your friends ;-)
Well done (again) Sidekick!
Thanks
Thank you very much for redoing this. I really like your teaching style Iain and look forward to your further F-4E videos.
It was the least I could do after mis-leading everyone in the first video. I felt badly that I had provided incorrect information.
Thanks - easy to follow. I reckon with a drag co-eff of 1.01 you should be pretty accurate at anywhere between 20 & 40 degree dive angle. Definitely for me the most accurate way of getting the dumb bombs on target.
Great video! Only advice, next time when doing panel work, maybe zoom in, in game, rather then zooming in using your editing software only because it preserves the resolution and therefore is much easier to read the dials.
Thanks for the advice.
@@Sidekick65 I'd like to just say, your videos fill an extremely unique niche and can be valuable in the DCS space. Because you look for the most "convenient" or "easiest" form of delivery for weapons it allows people not familiar with DCS to get into the Sim the smoothest, even if what they do isn't "per the manual" like with many other DCS creators.
The Grim Reapers did it best for me before but for reasons you may or may not already know I now refuse to support them in any way. If you add in sections to do with key bindings and what those particular bindings are called in the "Adjust Control Menu" I think you may find a LOT of success.
Examples of what I mean is sometimes you'll get situations where key bindings for modules aren't similar to each other, trigger detents are a perfect example, a specific one would be how some modules mark Nose wheel steering differently: F-16C (NWS), F-14 (Nose wheel steering, it stays on without needing to hold), Mig-21 (it is also named differently)
Got it. Once again. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you for the tutorials !! Best Regards !! Lg
Thanks. Appreciate it.
Just what I was looking for! Thx, SC.
Glad it was helpful
Thank you Iain.
Great job, sir!
Thanks
New to the channel lovely vid easy to follow and very informative
Thanks, I really appreciate it.
Nice video!
Thanks!
Can you do a video explaining the axis tunes for the F-4?
Struggling to figure out the correct ones.
Also thank you for the trainings! You’ve earned a sub
I think you made some good points about the learning curve and "get their full money's worth". I am trying to learn (and to not forget) some relative basic stuff. What I found is that the more modern modules are much more intuitive in terms of user interface. This really shows the quantum leap from e.g. an F-4E to F-14, or even more to F-16 and F/A-18.
I like the older aircraft. But I found it much more difficult to memorize which switches and buttons to be set and pressed than in the modern aircraft.
Nevertheless, I like the older aircraft a lot. Hoping for a Jaguar and the Starfighter.
Exactly. I think at least Parr of the "intuitiveness" of the newer jets is that their "user interface" is one we are all accustomed to. The older jets? Not so much.
Excellent! Subbed!
Thanks. I appreciate the support!
I like your tutorials - straight to the point and in calm delivery. 😊 Do you mind sharing the mission?
It's available on my Discord. There's also a video explaining how it works.
@@Sidekick65 Excellent, thanks. 🙏
@@Sidekick65 Add this info in this video description, It's a very useful channel!
Sorry the Discord link should have been in the description. It is now.
Great vid as usual. Cause I'm struggling with cluster bombs (the manual is not so clear for me about that) could You consider making a video also for this type of ammunition? Thx.
I will put it on the list!
I knew something wasn’t right with the first video. I didn’t know if it was the jet or the stick actuator and had no means to figure it out. Nonetheless, glad you got it sorted out.
It was the jet. I asked Heatblur if there was anything I should know. They didn't mention it. A few people acted as if I should have known. Which us unfortunate. I'm glad it got fixed it would have been a shame if it had been released in that condition
@@Sidekick65 Beats me how a bug like that was missed. With an experienced eye, it was easy to see something was amiss. Even though It’s been about 40 years since my last days on the Phantom, there are things that just stick in your brain.
To give the developers credit - the bug was discovered before release and was fixed. Some things just don't get noticed until they are tested by people outside the development team. If they had alerted me to the fact that the bug existed I would not have made the video about it.
I have an issue(?), when I designate I get a ~2 second input lag before Jester sets everything up. Is it suppose to be this way or am I special, please help.
I do see a lag, yes. I'm not sure I would say it's as long as 2s, but since there is no feed back, it feels pretty long ;-)
Good stuff
Thanks
Impressive. How would they do it in real life with the designation?
Have you figured out how to use Timed Level bombing in the F-4?
excellent videos! where can one find the bombing script you use ?
Drop by my Discord.
Thank you, some interesting tips here; what is the script you're using for the range dynamic stats ?
The mission, including the TITS script is available on my Discord.
@@Sidekick65I need that script, where can I download It?
Edit: can you put the link on Discord ? Thanks
It's available on my Discord channel. Drop by and ask if you can't find it.
Good video. Could you place a link to the bombing range mission file? That BDA script is too cool.
The file is available for download on my discord channel. The TITS script is also available separately for download so you can make your own range missions. There is a video about that on the channel - somewhere ;-)
@@Sidekick65 Much obliged, Sidekick65.
No CCIP or CCRP? only use the table and calcu manually ?
Correct. Similar to the A-4 is what I've heard.
Well, to be pedantic - no HUD. I would say that it uses a form of CCRP - as does the A-4, but the cues are not presented on the combining glass because it is not a full HUD so it may not "Feel" like teh CCRP you are used to if you fly modern jets.
Nice Vid. Well explained. Would be possible to share your mission bombing test with the script? Quite nice to train!
The script is available on my Discord. Drop by and pick it up.
@@Sidekick65 thanks man!!
Wait. It cleared up!
Dumb question but what is the designate button?
Jester context button. It's used for both bombing and air to air.
@@Gunfreak19 Thank you!
Where can I get this bombing range script?
It's available on my Discord server.
Callsign Divetoss !
complaint no 1 why did you not explain what button to press to bring up bombing table.
im glad we dont need that stupid bombing table thing in the tomcat
jester has all the info in front of him already
hope the update to the tomcat doesn't make us use that stupid piece of paper tho
just ONE TIME i would like to watch a video and the content creator gets right into the topic that is the title of the video. JUST ONCE!
Ahh well, you probably won't find that here. Sorry about that. I prefer to explain what I'm talking about - because that matters to me. I understand if my content is not for you. Thanks for stopping by. I am sorry to have wasted so much of your valuable time.
@@Sidekick65 its not about not for me. I need it to be straight to the point. Its not you its me. I bet your content is great. No disrespect was intended.
Dont think im going to get this module. Little too granular for my tastes.
The F-4 is a wonderful aircraft, but im too stupid to fly it
I think when you get something like this early access, it gives you time to learn each system, each type of activity; you have much more time to learn it. That is my opinion but everyone is different and everyone has their patience limit. Heat Blur gets the module out much more finished than ED does though.
I generally learn one thing at a time like bombing, and work on it til I feel I have a good idea how to do it, then I move on to learn something else, but I also go back and do some quick practice with the things I've already learned to keep my muscle memory working (I'm 73, so I have a lot of refreshing to do, lol)!
@@rwhunt99 wow! Good for you! At 73 and still flying. Good to keep your mind sharp.
Respect, old timer!
Unfortunately I had less than 24 hours access to the module before the original release date so I tried to pick ONE THING I could say something about - only to find out that it was one of the things that was being changed for the release... sigh...
@@ThePizzaGoblin Well, thanks for that, lol! I do enjoy flying and while I have a lot of modules, there are just a few I fly regularly, I do recommend keeping things to a reasonable level, mine is like 5 modules, but I like to jump in and fly a few other "favorites" at least a couple of times a month.
let's go out to the range... finally 6 minutes into the video.
It's funny that you mentioned high fidelity models in a video that is so blurry.
NEarly 7 minutes go by of saying nothing - then "use the bomb computer" and doesn't even say how to open it, finding a new tutorial =(
Oh please do. Sorry to have wasted so much of your valuable time. Thanks for dropping by though. Good luck
I've done enough screwing around. Time to learn this stuff for real - so far I'm surprised how challenging I've found bombing in the F-4.
