That is an awesome idea!!! I've seen you talk about them but never realised they can be so simple... and copy and pasting them will save me so much agro, thanks mate 😊
super helpful, I've been using cuts this whole time to start/stop effects without knowing this existed.. this will make things a lot cleaner on the timeline
I just recently learned that people use these for snap zooms instead of manually increasing a clip’s scale and I thought that was so smart considering how Resolve renders the color page AFTER the edit page, so masking and power windows on the color page don’t scale with the edit page.
Do they scale if you compound the clip? This will bake any colour/masking etc in to the clip before making any cuts or edits. I found if I didn't do this to a masked clip, when i came to cut the clip down, it would remove the mask and possibly the colour too
Thanks for these tutorials. I've had Resolve Studio sitting on my computer for a couple of years now. Never edited anything with it. It was a gift from my wife with the Speed Editor. Now, deciding to give Resolve another go, I find your simple to understand tutorials indispensable! Subbed!
You will not be sorry. I discovered Mr Alex not long after downloading Davinci, and his videos have been invaluable to a seventy something year old in getting to grips with the program. Welcome to the channel.
As I have just recently started diving more into Resolve for editing swordfighting and airsoft videos, one of the questions I had was "how can I add a temporary effect, like the Glitch, over a specific part of the timeline?" and this is the perfect answer, thank you so much!
thank you for the keycode short cuts! Last week I wasted an hour trying to figure out the copy/paste one before I gave up. I was overjoyed to find it here.!!
Thank You @MrAlexTech!! I've seen people dropping these in timelines and modifying them, but that wasn't their point so they just blasted through it. THIS is gold! Thanks for such a simple and thorough explanation!! I'm going to start overloading my powerbins!!
We love you Alex. Just wanna say what a nice and humble guy you are. After the help you have gave me looking for the right laptop on your livestream. I hope you can do more livestreams it was a honour to speak to you
Just starting my youtube career i guess and my god i wish i knew about this earlier! def gonna be having a go at this making for a much cleaner timeline...bloody legend cheers boss!
This is so great, thanks! And the timing of this video is incredible. I was literally driving somewhere today thinking about editing and wondering how I can achieve exactly what these adjustment clips do. I recently did a video where I wanted to apply a little bit of camera shake, and it felt silly to cut the clip at the start/end for that. And getting each part perfect was a pain having to undo/redo to line it up perfectly.. Being able to size the effect with sliders is a game changer.
I discovered adjustment clips from one of your recent videos and it’s changed my life! Your tutorials are brilliantly clear, useful and watchable, thanks for the great work.
Another great video Alex! All these little things that save a few minutes every time are under-utilised by myself. BTW I used your intro to make MY intro in my last video... Hard to explain but it'll make sense if you happen to watch it. Cheers again for all the great content!
Just keep in mind that the Adjustment Clip uses the resolution of the timeline, not the clip. So scaling with Adj. Clip will always result in a loss of quality, even if we have an HD timeline with 6K clips on it.
How to do this for vertical clips then. Losing my mind coming from Premiere to here trying to make Attribute presets for different cameras and such. (positions and zooms)
Thank you for the excellent tutorial! I use a lot pictures to create videos, this saves me a lot time to create similar effects for all the pictures. :)
WOW these do way more than I thought they did. Knowing I can save them will definitely help. I made sure to send this video over to my new channel so I can recall it later on that one as well. Saved to a playlist for future reference! Thanks Alex!
omg i feel so stupid, why did i never think of adding adjustment clip as a favorite so i dnt have to go looking for it everytime? 😂 once again mralextech thank you for providing usable information even though it made me feel kind of dumb hahaha
Doddle: [singular] British, informal : something that is very easy to do This machine makes cleaning your home a doddle. [=cinch] I always learn something on these videos 😂 Sometimes even about Resolve!
Great tips- I actually discovered this exact same workflow a while ago - but saving these to Power Bins is an 'add-on' for me now!! The ONLY thing to remember about Adjustment Clips is they cannot do any time-based effects/adjustments- so motion blur, time based NR etc will not work in them.
Thanks for sharing. For me similar things were done in After Effects with Adjustment Layers. So happy a fair load of processing could be finished in DaVinci Resolve.
Thanks again Alex - I've seen you use and recommend these so many times but it's time for me to actually use them now so the reminder is very welcome 😁
This is superbly well explained, including "Puppet masters", I like that for how it describes the implications for clips hanging below the adjustment clip. I was actually looking for exactly this tool (adjustment clips) having used it several years ago and having now forgotten what it was called or where to find it. So you are a legend, for bringing the solution and also explaining it so clearly and also for making it fun. Thank you. :)
Thank you so much for making this video! This has saved me loads & loads of time. All the different tools in editing software can be overwhelming to beginners like me, so really appreciate you taking the time to break down and display the power of this tool. Cheers!
My god i remember that once i have done color grading on clips for my video (27 clips from phone) and done color grading on each clip individualiy. Thanks heavens i once check what adjustment clip is for.
Mate, this video has just helped mt see a much easier world for editing 🔥🔥 Great you're doing fantastic as well, now just need another MTB video from you! Hope you are all good 👍🏻
Yeah, the Adjustment Clip is an awesome, versatile tool which can be applied for nearly every effect. But as I understand, it's still not possible to limit the effects of an Adjustment Clip just onto the clip being below the Adjustment Clip in case that there are more than one clip below each other, right?
That is correct. I've even tried getting around this with compound clips, but apparently an adjustment clip in a compound destroys any transparency the clips in the compound once had.
Is there a way to group or link an adjustment layer across multiple timelines? So for example sometimes i'll have the same color grade across all clips in a timeline, but have multiple timelines of similar clips, I want to adjust the adjustment layer 1 time and it will update across any timeline with that same adjustment clip.
between you, casey and daniel we have some really great educational content! wooo . hey I got a question for you! off subject but I am starting to learn tracking, do you have a good video for beginners? im working with sticking texts and logos on water and buildings etc.
Thanks for the video! The only "problem" I found with adjustment clips and using them for color grading is that you can´t use transitions on them. So if I want to do a smooth cross dissolve transition between two clips that happen to be effected by two different color grade adjustment clips, the transition does not aply on the color grading and shows up as a flickering in the video. Or is there any solution to this? Thanks a lot!
I always learn more and more thanks to this channel, keep the hard work dude
That is an awesome idea!!! I've seen you talk about them but never realised they can be so simple... and copy and pasting them will save me so much agro, thanks mate 😊
Best instructor on TH-cam. Thank you, mate.
Adjustment Clip made my job so much easier. Now I can edit much quicker. Thanks, Alex 😊🙂
super helpful, I've been using cuts this whole time to start/stop effects without knowing this existed.. this will make things a lot cleaner on the timeline
Number 3 is such a time saver for me! It’s so simple and I can’t believe I’ve been spending so much time adjusting each clip individually. Thanks bro!
I just recently learned that people use these for snap zooms instead of manually increasing a clip’s scale and I thought that was so smart considering how Resolve renders the color page AFTER the edit page, so masking and power windows on the color page don’t scale with the edit page.
You know I never even thought about this as a benefit! Good point well made

OH MY GOD!!! This is mana from heaven! I don't even want to say what I was doing and how tedious it was.
Great. I’ve been looking at how to add an effect to only part of a clip. Thanks!
Awesome, thank you. This will make colour grading so much easier
I just used these for the first time and it won't be the last. Thank you again Alex. You're The Man. 😃
Adjustment Clips are Da Bomb!😃
Thnx Sir👊
thank you for the keycode short cuts! Last week I wasted an hour trying to figure out the copy/paste one before I gave up. I was overjoyed to find it here.!!
Davinci Resolve Studio is already in the no studio version so nice. thanks for your videos. Help so much.
Thank You @MrAlexTech!! I've seen people dropping these in timelines and modifying them, but that wasn't their point so they just blasted through it. THIS is gold! Thanks for such a simple and thorough explanation!! I'm going to start overloading my powerbins!!

same with dynamic zoom?
@@SaxSpy If you put Dynamic Zoom on Adj Clip, then yes.
@@Art-FX same for compound clip?
Smart observation and insultingly clever.

WOW! That was inspiring, instructive and helpful! BIG FAT FANX!
Great tips and this will save me so much time! I'm ashamed at how inefficient my existing workflow is 🤣
great going to start using effects now, as before they were just to hard to do
Thank you for the excellent tutorial! I use a lot pictures to create videos, this saves me a lot time to create similar effects for all the pictures. :)
I started viewing and said I knew that! But, I soon found good information I didn’t know. Nicely presented, thank you! I will be trying this out.
Thank Again you so helpful Quick and I can understand you!!!!!!!!😂
Wow thank you so much! This will be very helpful and will saves so much time! 👍👍👍
Very cool, thanks so much Alex
I knew all of them (learned most from you) and still watched the whole video cause you're awesome Alex
WOW these do way more than I thought they did. Knowing I can save them will definitely help. I made sure to send this video over to my new channel so I can recall it later on that one as well. Saved to a playlist for future reference! Thanks Alex!

I love you man , I can now edit in Davinci after leaving Camtasia all because of you
