I miss smarter than the others but still easy to anger Leela.
Me too :/
usually A.I. Friends are never as good as real friends
Imagine having a book club at the place where you work. These people never go home. LOL
It is kind of funny how everything always happens at the Planet Express building 🤣
It feels like there were something of a missed opportunity in this episode. They form a wine drinking club and we don’t even get a scene where they all get drunk and cause chaos at the Winery.
Maybe it’s just me but I got Bean and Mora vibes when Leela was interacting with Phoebe.
Exactly, it just feels like it could be a lot
More fun
I really hope they at least keep these friendships for Leela going forward.
That would redeem it for me a lot tbh
@@renrants It would add impact for sure. I also like the vampire funeral home guy! Lol
Oh yeah! I made video in a rush so I missed commenting on some of the best little jokes
@renrants that's okay. You don't need to hit everything! :) ps. I know you're working on an umbrella academy thing, screen rant posted 4 "deleted scene descriptions" from the final season if that would help in any way 😆
I really enjoyed the fact the boys formed an actual book club and got super into it. The fact that most of their group most are idiots or people would not read classic literature while the girl's group had more smart people who would like classic literature made for an entertaining subversion. Its like you said, Amy has a PHD, Leela is the most mature member of Planet Express and the doctor is highly educated as well, meanwhile Fry, Bender and Zoidberg couldn't get through a magazine between them let alone a full novel.
Yeah, I think I'd have liked it more of it didn't kind of take all the air out of Leela's storyline
It would have been better if the B plot was just the men's book club, to give more time, rather than an A, B, and C plot
Yeah, I think that could have worked
@@renrants the Simpsons very rarely did an A, B and C plot, but because they were so tightly plotted they worked.
Adam Conover has an interesting video out about TV that I kinda think explains some of the issues we're seeing
Ooh I love his stuff I'll check it out
@@renrants let me know what you think.
Captain midnight also did a similar one but from a different perspective.
I never really thought too much about Amy and Leela's relationship. I am more of a Professor Farnswroth and Zoidburg entuusist. Amy saying "I guess not" did make me laugh.
It was funny in the way all Amy's roasts are kind of funny, but I've always been a bit bothered by how antagonistic their relationship is, it'd be nice if they could move on from that 😅
even though I'd found the episode to be okay I'd wish they given both Amy and Leela better character developments at least They Give Leela a female friend group
Nice review by the way, this is something I noticed, I found it weird that Nibbler is yet to appear in season 12, like where is he? because his last appearance was Parasites Regained. My guess is he could be living in Leela's old apartment or something.
Oh yeah, that's a great point, weird we haven't seen him!
2:58 i loved to see more of the Mutant Girl
Me too, Vyolet is great!
6:21 Aw yes I'd remembered Malcom in the Middle it was one of the few sitcoms I'd grew up with in the early 2000's I sometimes watch it on Hulu
It's one of my favorites too :)
The only joke I managed to laugh at was Fry’s delivery on “you bastard.” and I liked Vyolet’s reappearance. She’s my favorite mutant, and I wish she’d shown up more often.
Totally agree! Vyolet is the best
This whole season has been soulless social commentary without the timeless charm of the classic series
It's had its moments, but I largely agree
@@renrants I think the line for me was the episode. Specifically the "emotional support raygun" joke, which makes no sense in universe. Compare that to the similar "Anthrax, for duck hunting" where it was a reference to people needing automatic guns "for hunting" but even in the context of the scene it made sense he would have it.
even though I'd think this episode is Okay and it's good they've gave Leela a female friend group I'd just wish it could have been better and they would have given Leela a better character dynamic
For sure! An attempt was definitely made, haha
I didn't realize the episode had to do with FireFest until you mentioned it. Has it really been so long that any connection would be misinterpreted as just being part of a mediocre plot? Guess it has.
I was actually a little surprised it's been this long, 2017 feels so far away and so recent at the same time, haha
So do they still Have a Leela Problem? I'd thought they fixed it in this episode by giving her a female friend group along with Amy
I think my problem is it didn't really give her character enough time to shine
That's Female friend group for you!
futurama has a "should have stayed dead" problem
It definitely feels that way sometimes, especially because Meanwhile was such a flawless ending
Ive long since accepted that Futurama is just one of those shows that writes men as people but women as women.
I havent seen the new season yet but I would say that Futurama has a women problem, not just a Leela problem. Im a woman and I love Futurama, I grew up watching it and it will always have a special place in my heart. That being said, it is absolutely not a show I will ever rely on for good female representation.
Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat as a femme nonbinary person who grew up watching the show. I think the writing for the female characters definitely tends to be very uneven and it has glaring issues especially in episodes like Neutopia where the female versions of the male characters were incredibly stereotypical
I think I used to give it more grace as a product of its time, but it's hard to extend that grace to episodes written today when they should know better and have more women in the writing room
Compared to Bender and Fry, Leela doesn't have as much standout episodes for herself in the show.
The struggle of being the voice of reason character. Leela does get good ones though like the one that revealed she is really a mutant. Not every vocie of reason character can top Richard from Unikitty. He is one of the best voice of reason characters.
@@icecreamhero2375 I wouldn't say for South Park though. Many of my favorite episodes of the show focus on Stan who is the voice of reason.
@@CrossoverFan4life Lois Griffin from Family Guy usually gets fantastic episodes. Lethal Weapons is one of the funniest ones ever.
Huh, so they had a Leela focused episode, but it didn't have anything to do with how out of character she's been acting all the previous episodes recently... I guess they just didn't know what they were doing. That's kinda disappointing.
It was so close to being great 😭
5:20 well even the the funeral may be the funniest part of the Episode when Leela and her friends beat up Pheebie
This episode was ok but it had a glaring plot hole. Why were they all reading books when a few episodes ago they just said people don't read in thr future they dump them on a far off planet. I wish they explained that away with a little joke or something.
Yeah, that annoyed me a bit too 🤣
HATE to be that Guy But The Simpsons did it better in there Modern Day Seasons when Homer and his Bar friends had to fofill Larry's last wish of them together at a fishing trip when Larry passed away
4:04 Yeah I'd didn't found there book jokes to be all that funny from this episode and The Temp episode
Honestly The Temp was a great opportunity to funnier book jokes too 😅
i love this so much
🥺❤️
